After Marrying the Cold Omega in Secret - Chapter 67
Chu Jin hadn’t expected to see Chi Ye walking toward the restaurant with Feng Yuwei the moment she sat down.
And they took the table right next to hers.
Chu Jin: ?
Why are they following us?
Besides, wasn’t this place supposed to require reservations? How did they just walk in like that?
She shot Chi Ye a questioning look.
The other woman, however, remained utterly composed, meeting her gaze briefly before pulling out a chair for Feng Yuwei with practiced grace.
The gesture was gentle and courteous, exuding an air of refined elegance.
Chu Jin couldn’t stand the sight and averted her eyes, refusing to engage further.
The restaurant was located on the top floor of the building, with a spacious layout and an open-air sky garden outside.
Inside, the décor was tastefully sophisticated, featuring a crystal chandelier at the center that cast a warm golden glow, elevating the ambiance.
The soft strains of a violin filled the air, creating a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.
Feng Yuwei thanked her before sitting down. “I heard this restaurant requires reservations in advance.”
A flicker of joy stirred in her heart.
Could it be that Chi Ye had planned to invite her out all along?
Chi Ye had already returned to her seat by then, her expression indifferent as she replied in an even tone,
“I had Assistant He buy out the reservation slot.”
After all, money was no object to her.
The moment those words left her mouth, the delight in Feng Yuwei’s eyes vanished instantly, her earlier secret happiness turning into bitter humiliation.
She glanced sideways at Chu Jin at the neighboring table, resentment simmering within.
Chu Jin’s emotions were tangled. She hadn’t anticipated Chi Ye following them here.
Didn’t this prove that Chi Ye cared?
She didn’t want Chu Jin to be alone with Jiang Xu.
It wasn’t until Jiang Xu called out “Sis” twice that Chu Jin snapped out of her thoughts.
Her lashes fluttered up in slight fluster as she met Jiang Xu’s gaze. “Hmm? What is it?”
Seeing her respond, Jiang Xu’s tightly pressed lips finally curved into a smile. She gestured subtly toward the menu the waiter had handed over, her tone still gentle. “Sis, time to order.”
Chu Jin hesitated briefly before smiling faintly and deferring. “You choose. I’m fine with anything.”
Her attention was divided after all, the other two were right beside them, and her peripheral vision kept betraying her, stealing glances at what they were doing.
She had no mind to focus on food.
So Jiang Xu took the menu. Just as she lowered her eyes to browse, Chu Jin noticed Chi Ye suddenly stand up and leave.
But she hadn’t taken her bag likely just stepping away briefly.
After a moment’s internal struggle, Chu Jin excused herself to Jiang Xu and headed for the restroom.
A phone ringtone suddenly chimed. Chi Ye glanced at the unfamiliar number on the screen. Her contact details were highly confidential, known to almost no one. Unless it was a wrong number, the caller couldn’t be an ordinary person.
So she stepped outside into the garden.
Walking to the glass railing, she took in the nighttime view of Linhe before answering the call.
“Hello,” she greeted politely.
“President Chi, I presume?” A deep male voice, sounding to be in his thirties or forties, came through. Without preamble, the man introduced himself. “I’m Xu Li, a director of Gravity Group.”
Hearing the name, Chi Ye’s eyes narrowed slightly.
The reason she had been working overtime nonstop recently was due to a major bidding project. Given the scale of the undertaking, numerous enterprises in Linhe were eyeing it greedily. But none of them mattered to Chi Ye , her only real competition was Gravity Group, which had dominated the industry for years.
However, Chi Ye had made thorough preparations this time and was confident of winning the bid.
She hadn’t expected the other party to reach out to her proactively.
“President Xu, what can I do for you?” Chi Ye’s tone was cold.
“Xiao Chi, though you’re much younger than me, you truly are a promising talent. In just a few years, without relying on the Chi family’s support, you’ve carved out a significant place for yourself in Linhe. It’s truly impressive for someone so young.”
The opening remarks were the usual nonsense, delivered with an air of superiority. Chi Ye was growing impatient but refrained from interrupting.
She wanted to see what kind of act the other party was putting on.
After a pause, Xu Li cleared his throat and continued, “This time, we’re both competing for this project. Logically speaking, as the industry leader, Gravity should have no trouble securing it. But seeing how hard you’ve worked reminds me of my younger self.”
It was true that Gravity had once been the top player, but years of poor management, internal strife, and failure to keep up with the times had led to its decline. At this point, it was merely a case of “a centipede dies but never falls down.”
Compared to the Chi family’s thriving business in recent years, it was hardly worth mentioning.
Chi Ye had no intention of wasting any more time. She cut straight to the point, “So? What’s the purpose of your call?”
Interrupted, Xu Li’s tone grew noticeably colder. “Out of respect for the Chi family, I was prepared to concede this project to you. But despite your youth, you lack integrity.”
Chi Ye frowned slightly, puzzled. “What have I done?”
Xu Li seemed to be suppressing his emotions, but his voice dropped lower. “You’ve taken what belongs to someone else.”
At these words, Chi Ye’s gaze drifted toward the restaurant’s glass window, where she could faintly make out Feng Yuwei’s figure inside.
Sitting upright, Feng was touching up her makeup with a cushion compact.
“Aren’t you married?”
Chi Ye’s tone was light, laced with a hint of mockery.
The other end remained silent, offering only a terse warning. “I advise you to stay away from her.”
Chi Ye lifted her eyes, her gaze merging with the dark night.
Her expression grew inscrutable.
After a long pause, she spoke deliberately, word by word:
“First, I neither need nor want your concession. Let’s wait for the final results.”
She paused, her tone turning even sharper, like three feet of winter ice chilling to the bone.
“Second, I have no interest in your little mistress. Kindly ask her to stay away from me.”
With that, she hung up.
Chu Jin hadn’t run into Chi Ye in the restroom, so she came out to the garden to check only to find her there after all.
Chi Ye had just sent a message to He Xian after ending the call when she looked up and saw Chu Jin.
“Why aren’t you with your dear little sister?”
Closing her phone, Chi Ye raised an eyebrow.
Chu Jin seized the chance to fire back, “And you’re not glued to your little admirer either.”
“I had to take a call.”
Chi Ye stepped closer, amusement flickering in her eyes as she tilted her head slightly.
She stopped right in front of Chu Jin, her red lips parting as she murmured in a suggestive tone:
“And you? Don’t tell me you came looking for me on purpose?”
Chu Jin’s heart skipped a beat, caught off guard by how easily Chi Ye had guessed the truth.
She had followed her after seeing her leave.
Though flustered inside, she maintained her composure. “Nature calls. Can’t a person use the restroom?”
Chi Ye leisurely crossed her arms, delivering a merciless final jab:
“The restroom is inside, just go straight and turn left.”
“…” Chu Jin narrowed her eyes, gritted her teeth, and said, “Thanks. Seems I came to the wrong place.”
Then she turned and left, following Chi Ye’s directions to the restroom once more.
By the time she returned, Chi Ye was already seated, enjoying the meal with Feng Yuwei. The dishes Jiang Xu had ordered were also being served one after another, but Chu Jin ate absentmindedly.
“Sis?”
Chu Jin snapped back to attention. “Hmm? What is it?”
“Nothing,” Jiang Xu hesitated, her gaze lingering on Chu Jin’s plate. “I just wanted to ask how the food tastes.”
Chu Jin quickly speared a piece of tuna with her fork, smiling brightly. “It’s delicious.”
With that, she popped it into her mouth, chewing deliberately while making sure to look like she was savoring every bite.
Jiang Xu responded with a faint smile.
Seeing this, Chu Jin relaxed slightly but just as she set her fork down, Jiang Xu suddenly reached over and covered her hand with her own.
Her palm was warm, her breathing uneven.
Jiang Xu couldn’t bring herself to meet Chu Jin’s eyes, her lashes trembling like butterfly wings. Her lips parted slightly, but no words came out.
She looked incredibly nervous.
Everything happened so abruptly. The moment her hand was caught, Chu Jin’s heart lurched, a cold sweat breaking out down her spine. Her entire body stiffened unnaturally.
At the same time, she could already feel a sharp gaze slicing into her from the side.
Like a blade, ready to cut her in half.
She didn’t dare look at Jiang Xu, much less face Chi Ye.
Jiang Xu lowered her eyes, gathering her thoughts for a long moment before finally mustering the courage to lift her gaze. Her voice was soft as she said, “Sis, there’s something I want to tell you.”
She paused, taking a deep breath.
“Actually, I—”
But before she could finish, Chu Jin pulled her hand away.
Effectively cutting her off.
To mask the awkwardness, Chu Jin forced a smile, her tone deliberately light. “You wanted to try the tuna too, right? I noticed we only ordered one serving, and I already finished it.”
She pointed at the plate and continued, “It really is good. Should we order another one?”
Jiang Xu faltered for a moment before silently withdrawing her hand. After a brief, contemplative silence, she nodded at Chu Jin’s cheerful expression.
“Okay.”
Chi Ye had witnessed the entire scene with perfect clarity. Though she saw Chu Jin’s reaction, a shadow still settled over her heart.
Even a simple touch of the hand was unacceptable.
“President Chi, is something on your mind?”
Feng Yuwei, oblivious to the tension, noticed Chi Ye’s troubled expression and offered her concern.
Chi Ye watched as the other woman raised her glass, her own gaze darkening before she picked up her wine and clinked it against Feng Yuwei’s. “No.”
After taking a sip, Feng Yuwei set her glass down with a sigh.
Then, propping her chin on one hand, she looked up at Chi Ye.
“President Chi, it’s been a long time since I’ve felt as relaxed and happy as I do today.”
As she spoke, a sheen of tears glistened in her eyes.
The sudden emotional turn caught Chi Ye off guard. “What’s wrong with you?”
Her wife had just had her hand touched, she hadn’t even cried yet, so why was this woman acting so pitiful?
Hearing Chi Ye’s concern, Feng Yuwei felt a surge of emotion and began recounting her misfortunes in detail.
“After struggling in the entertainment industry for many years, I’ve finally gained some reputation and won a few awards. But sadly, it’s all just a glamorous facade.” She paused, her sorrow suddenly overflowing.
“In reality, this industry is treacherous. You have to tread carefully as if walking on thin ice, or you’ll plunge into an abyss if you’re not careful.”
Chi Ye was growing impatient. First Xu Li, now Feng Yuwei, why did these people always speak in such convoluted ways?
Feng Yuwei, deeply immersed in her emotions, continued wistfully, “How I wish there was someone who could stay by my side when I’m sad and vulnerable. They wouldn’t need to do anything just being there would be enough.”
Naturally delicate like a fragile bird, she resembled a treasured golden canary one couldn’t help but cradle. Now with reddened nose and tear-filled eyes, her pitiful expression could melt anyone’s heart.
But Chi Ye wasn’t just anyone.
Frowning, she suppressed her discomfort and cut straight to the point.
“Don’t you have a sugar daddy?”
Feng Yuwei’s expression froze momentarily before quickly reverting to her pitiable demeanor.
“Director Chi, what are you saying? I don’t have a sugar daddy.”
“Oh.” Chi Ye nodded in understanding.
A subtle glint flashed through her narrow eyes as her tone turned meaningful.
“So, you want me?”
