After Marrying the Cold Omega in Secret - Chapter 65
The moment those words were spoken, not only was the “mood” completely ruined, it felt like a fatal blow.
Chu Jin even thought she heard the sound of glass shattering.
No, it was the sound of a heart breaking.
And so, the night ended in discord once again.
Before Chu Jin could explain, Chi Ye displayed a speed she had never shown before dressing herself impeccably in an instant. Apart from slightly flushed cheeks, she looked exactly as she had when she arrived.
Then, as if nothing had happened, she opened the door.
The click of her high heels echoed as her usual cold, aristocratic demeanor instantly returned.
Under Feng Pei’er’s astonished gaze, she even plucked a single rose from the bouquet.
Pinching the stem between her fingers, she brought it to her nose with a hint of disdain, giving it a light sniff.
Then, turning her gaze to Chu Jin, she curved her lips into a smile.
“Such fragrant flowers.”
Though Chu Jin knew it was a “death smile,” she was still debating whether to return one when Chi Ye’s eyes abruptly turned icy.
Her palm closed over the flower, crushing it violently.
The delicate, fragrant petals, subjected to such brutality, burst with juice before withering instantly.
Then, as if tossing trash, she flicked her wrist and flung the ruined flower into Chu Jin’s room.
Without another word, she turned and strode away.
Feng Pei’er stood frozen, only letting out a soft sigh after Chi Ye slammed her own door shut. “Such a pitiful flower.”
Chu Jin stared at the flower on the floor, lost in thought, before murmuring, “…Such a ruthless person.”
Then Feng Pei’er walked in, picking up the flower from the carpet. Only then did Chu Jin realize while she had been too busy watching Chi Ye quickly tidy her disheveled appearance, she had completely forgotten to fix herself!
Fortunately, most of the earlier “effort” had been focused on undressing Chi Ye, so her own clothes weren’t too messy, just her hair was slightly tousled.
And her cheeks were a little flushed.
Seeing Feng Pei’er’s odd expression, Chu Jin quickly flopped onto the couch, propping her forehead with her arm, feigning drunkenness.
“I had a few drinks earlier. Feeling a bit tipsy.”
Her act was convincing.
Feng Pei’er hugged the bouquet, trying to hide her amused smile.
The “Reserved Couple” drinking together late at night. She was getting her dose of fangirl fuel.
Even if she didn’t see any wine glasses, it didn’t matter. The important thing was that her favorite ship had been alone together, drinking at night!
But she kept her composure, secretly rejoicing for a moment before placing the flowers on the table.
Looking at the bouquet of pink roses their petals soft and pure, the packaging elegant and refined. Feng Pei’er felt it would be a shame to let them wither here.
After a pause, she asked, “Sister Jin, should I put these in a vase?”
Chu Jin’s eyes were half-lidded, her expression weary.
Without even lifting her gaze, she waved a hand dismissively.
“No need.”
Right now, she had no energy to spare for flowers. Her mind was entirely occupied with figuring out how to make some small amends to Chi Ye later.
Though making Chi Ye jealous had been part of the plan both as provocation and punishment the way things had unfolded was far too ill-timed.
Even humiliating, in a way.
Seeing Chu Jin so listless, Feng Pei’er grew even more convinced of her drunken excuse and tactfully took her leave.
Only after hearing the door click shut did Chu Jin open her eyes.
She immediately grabbed her phone from the couch and opened the chat with “Proud Chi CEO.”
After a long hesitation, she typed what she believed was the perfect opening line:
“For an alpha in estrus, your decisive departure has caused me serious harm.”
With a touch of humor, hoping to ease the tension.
Chu Jin stared at the screen, silently praying the other person would be swayed by her wit. But after a full three minutes of waiting, there was still no response.
That tiny glimmer of hope in her heart shattered completely.
Chu Jin sighed deeply and continued typing.
[Alright, I’m sorry. Today was a bit much.]
[But she really is just a friend.]
This time, the reply came instantly.
[Yeah, you and her are nothing.]
Chu Jin: “…”
Since when did she start mimicking her tone?
Then, she saw Chi Ye quote her first message and reply:
[You’re the one in estrus, not me. So why should I care?]
Chu Jin: “…”
What a heartless woman!
Every word was a dead end clearly, she wasn’t interested in proper communication.
In the end, Chu Jin could only send a sticker to wrap things up.
Only after finishing did she suddenly realize she still hadn’t taken her suppressant. Feng Pei’er’s sudden interruption had even disrupted her estrus symptoms.
Proof of how damaging an unexpected disturbance could be when handling important matters!
The restless heat in her chest surged back, and Chu Jin hurried to the bathroom to inject the suppressant. After washing up, she quickly went to bed.
The next day at seven, the entire crew was up. Chu Jin arrived at the makeup room, where the stylist and hairdresser were working on her look.
Her natural features were excellent, and since Wen Qin’s character was designed to be alluring, only light makeup was needed. A set of voluminous curls later, and she was already a perfect fit for the role.
Chi Ye was getting her makeup done beside her. Since Shen Huai’s character was a college junior, she was given a “no-makeup” makeup look, with half her hair tied up loosely and the rest cascading over her shoulders, a few wispy strands left framing her forehead.
Her gaze was cool, carrying a hint of aloof pride.
Logically, someone like Shen Huai with her personality would never have had a one-night stand with Wen Qin, let alone agreed to be kept afterward.
But in truth, Shen Huai had met Wen Qin as a child, and the latter had even saved her once. From then on, a seed had quietly taken root in her heart until years later, when she encountered Wen Qin again.
Today’s shoot was that very reunion.
First up was the bar scene from Chu Jin’s audition, Wen Qin, after discovering she’d been cheated on, came to drown her sorrows with her friend Fang Qingli.
The actress playing Fang Qingli was also a newcomer, relatively unknown but with solid acting skills.
Working with a capable performer made it easier for Chu Jin to shine, and the scene wrapped after just three takes.
Then Fang Qingli left for the restroom, leaving Wen Qin alone in the booth.
She had drunk quite a bit by now, her body limp and head spinning, yet she showed no signs of stopping.
Having gotten drunk multiple times recently, playing intoxicated came effortlessly to Chu Jin. The iced tea in her hand might as well have been high-proof liquor.
Just then, someone sat down beside her.
Carrying a faint, elusive fragrance.
Like a lone plum blossom blooming defiantly on a frost-laden winter branch, its scent carrying a sharp, icy edge.
Utterly out of place in the bar’s atmosphere.
Wen Qin weakly turned her gaze, her eyes landing on a face with cool, refined features delicate yet aloof. Though the girl wore a strapless dress, Wen Qin, having frequented countless bars, could tell at a glance she was still a student.
Her fingers idly twirled the glass in her hand, swirling the remaining liquor. The liquid left faint traces along the rim before dissolving back into clarity.
“You shouldn’t be here,” Wen Qin murmured, her eyes fixed on Shen Huai as she brought the glass to her lips for a sip.
Shen Huai glanced indifferently over her shoulder and replied succinctly, “Lost a game. My turn for a dare.”
Following her gaze, Wen Qin spotted a group of six or seven young faces watching them expectantly from a nearby table.
She withdrew her gaze, lifting her eyes to meet Shen Huai’s. The faint flush of alcohol made her gaze all the more mesmerizing.
Her red lips curved slightly. “What do you need to do?”
Shen Huai was momentarily entranced but kept her composure. The tight line of her lips softened into a faint, elusive smile.
“Simple. Just ask for a drink from you.”
Wen Qin studied her briefly before understanding dawned. As she poured the drink, she asked, “Does it need to be an arm-in-arm toast?”
This was a common game she and her friends used to play at bars she’d seen far bolder dares.
But the one that stuck with her most was the time she’d been punished to stand outside the restroom, greeting those entering with “Welcome” and those leaving with “See you next time.”
That punishment had lasted a full five minutes.
To this day, Fang Qingli still had the video of that night saved on her phone.
But Wen Qin wasn’t the same as before. The thrill of these wild games had dulled her last visit to a bar had been three weeks ago.
Fang Qingli had complained endlessly about it.
Now, looking at the girl before her, Wen Qin felt something new sprout in her long-dry heart.
Screw my ex. This one’s my future girlfriend.
Shen Huai nodded, accepting the glass. Her fingertips brushed lightly against Wen Qin’s hand.
“Thank you, jiejie.”
Watching the girl’s cool demeanor flicker with shyness, Wen Qin’s chest tightened.
Future girlfriend? No, current girlfriend.
With a playful smile, she hooked her arm through Shen Huai’s amid the cheers from the table, tilting her chin back to down the drink.
Shen Huai’s ears tinged pink.
Once the interaction ended, Wen Qin’s smile lingered, her drunken haze making her gaze even more intoxicating.
“I’m heading to the restroom,” she murmured. “You can go back.”
Shen Huai’s expression cooled again, her eyes lowered in thought. With a quiet hum, she turned and left.
Just as Wen Qin stood, her friend Fang Qingli returned, frowning. “The moment I come back, you leave? The restroom’s packed.”
Wen Qin arched a brow and replied lazily,
“I’m going to wait for my catch.”
It took Fang Qingli a second to process before she muttered in exasperation, “…And here I was worried about you.”
At that moment, the director’s voice cut in: “Cut!”
“Fantastic! Everyone’s in great form this take was perfect, the emotions were spot-on!” Su Chenxiao was thrilled, showering praise on the performance.
I thought the actors would need some time to adjust at the beginning of filming before they could fully immerse themselves in their roles, but surprisingly, everything went so smoothly.
Chu Yin also breathed a sigh of relief. It had been a long time since she last acted, and she had been a little worried about her performance. Fortunately, all the actors she worked with were fully engaged, which allowed her to perform with such ease.
During the break, Chu Yin glanced at Chi Ye sitting nearby. After a moment of hesitation, she walked over and sat down beside her.
“Didn’t expect your acting to be this impressive,” Chu Yin praised.
“Mhm.”
Chi Ye didn’t look up, scrolling through her phone instead. The screen had a privacy protector, making it impossible to see what she was looking at.
Just as Chu Yin was about to say something else, a gentle voice chimed in.
“Of course President Chi is amazing! She won awards for her acting when she was just eleven. If she had stayed in the entertainment industry, she would’ve been a household name by now!”
Chu Yin looked up sure enough, it was Feng Yuwei, that notorious bootlicker.
Unable to hold back, Chu Yin clenched her molars and forced a fake smile. “Even more famous than you, Best Actress Feng?”
“Absolutely! Back then, President Chi was my most respected senior and mentor. Just having the chance to act alongside her in the same drama would be the greatest honor of my life.”
Watching Feng Yuwei shower Chi Ye with that radiant, heartfelt smile, Chu Yin found it all a bit surreal.
Seems like she had underestimated Feng Yuwei before. Who knew that aside from being a bully, she was also such a spineless sycophant and a master of double-faced flattery?
Chu Yin couldn’t be bothered to keep up the act. She dropped the fake smile and the last shred of politeness. “You don’t even have any scenes today. Why are you here?”
“To witness President Chi’s brilliant performance, of course!”
“Cut the crap.”
Chu Yin immediately cut her off.
Feng Yuwei’s smile vanished instantly, and she shot Chu Yin a cold glare. “None of your business.”
Then, turning back to Chi Ye, she softened her expression and handed her a bottle of water. “President Chi, please have some water and rest for a bit.”
Yet Chi Ye never once looked up, treating both of them as if they were air.
Seeing Feng Yuwei’s hand left hanging, Chu Yin couldn’t help but smirk in satisfaction.
At least Chi Ye was fair.
Even if it was just cold indifference, she treated everyone the same.
That smugness lasted less than a second before Chi Ye lifted her chin and looked at Feng Yuwei.
Then she took the water and even said, “Thank you.”
Her tone was gentle.
Chu Yin’s smile remained frozen on her face, as if flash-frozen outwardly calm, but inside, her heart was already spiraling into a dark, damp, twisted mess.
Why the hell?!
