After Marrying the Cold Omega in Secret - Chapter 39
Their eyes met. This time, Chi Ye did not look away.
“What you said earlier today, it wasn’t the truth, was it?” Chu Jin asked softly.
Her voice was low and raspy, carrying the lingering roughness of sleep.
A subtle flicker appeared in Chi Ye’s calm gaze, but it vanished almost immediately.
A cool breeze drifted in from outside the window, lifting the sheer curtain and letting in a light chill.
“It’s late. Go to sleep,” Chi Ye said quietly.
She straightened her back and turned to leave.
But Chu Jin grabbed her wrist.
Her hand held more strength than she meant to use, filled with unspoken frustration. Chi Ye was caught off guard. She stumbled slightly and ended up sitting on the edge of the bed.
Chu Jin sat up quickly and leaned toward her.
Their faces were now just inches apart.
Chu Jin’s eyes were bright as she stared at Chi Ye for a long moment.
Finally, she let out a soft breath and said, “If you really meant what you said, then why did you kiss me?”
Chi Ye shifted slightly, clearly uncomfortable. She wanted to avoid the question, but Chu Jin refused to let go of her hand. Left with no choice, she gave a vague answer.
“I’m in a susceptibility period.”
Just five words, and Chu Jin was speechless.
“So you kissed me because your pheromones were acting up and you couldn’t control yourself?” Chu Jin didn’t break eye contact. She was trying to read beyond Chi Ye’s calm expression, trying to see what was truly hidden beneath the surface.
Chi Ye responded with a quiet “yes.”
Chu Jin felt a mix of frustration and helplessness.
“I don’t believe you.”
She had thought about this all day. From the moment they signed the marriage contract, to joining the dating show, and everything since then. For a long time, she believed Chi Ye had feelings for Yan Sisi. But Chi Ye’s recent behavior had completely betrayed that idea.
That day at the door of the Iris Room, the soft, affectionate voice she overheard may not have been Yan Sisi speaking to Chi Ye. It might have been part of a teaching or practice session.
And later, Chi Ye had repeated those same words to her.
Everything was slowly becoming clear. All the signs now pointed to a single answer.
If it were just a contract marriage, would Chi Ye have made her breakfast? Would she have personally handed her a date invitation? Would she have touched her with such intimacy?
They had woken up together, Chi Ye still holding her and calling her “wife.” Then later that same day, she coldly pushed her away. It was obvious this wasn’t random. It was intentional.
Chu Jin still didn’t know exactly what had happened between Chi Ye and Wan Qing. But she knew one thing for sure. She was not going to fall for Chi Ye’s emotional games.
No matter what, she was the one who held the marriage certificate.
“I’m just a pure and clueless alpha, and you’ve already taken advantage of me so many times,” Chu Jin said slowly, her tone teasing.
Then she leaned in close to Chi Ye’s ear and whispered, “President Chi, you need to take responsibility.”
“We didn’t actually…” Chi Ye quickly tried to protest, but her voice trailed off. She couldn’t bring herself to finish the sentence.
“And how is that any different from actually doing it?” Chu Jin shot back, her voice both sharp and playful.
She gave Chi Ye a pitiful glance. Her eyes turned red and tears welled up.
When the tears wouldn’t fall, she quickly wiped at her face and began to fake cry softly.
“I’m just an innocent girl. You’ve kissed me and touched me. We’ve done everything we shouldn’t have, and now you want to throw me aside. My life is so tragic. President Chi, how can you be so cruel?”
It had been a long time since Chu Jin had acted so freely. She fell into the role with ease. Her voice was laced with just the right amount of sorrow, and her eyes shimmered like she was about to cry at any moment.
“They say people from rich families are always heartless. I really thought you were different. But you turned out to be just as ruthless, tearing my heart apart.”
Chi Ye was completely stunned. She had never faced anything like this. Her usual cold and distant demeanor shattered. She hurriedly reached out to hold Chu Jin’s shoulders, wiping away her fake tears in a panic.
“I’ll take responsibility,” Chi Ye said firmly.
She repeated the promise several times.
“I will take responsibility.”
At those words, Chu Jin immediately stopped crying and looked up at her with shining eyes.
“Really?” Her eyes were still slightly red, her voice full of surprise and hope. “I knew you weren’t heartless.”
Chi Ye gave a small nod.
“But what you did today really hurt me,” Chu Jin said softly. “I thought you didn’t want me anymore.”
Her expression turned sorrowful again, and her voice started to tremble.
“I was really sad.”
“I’m sorry,” Chi Ye said as she gently stroked her arm. Her heart was full of regret.
“Sorry isn’t enough,” Chu Jin replied.
She looked up, and their eyes met again. Her eyes were still slightly red, and the look in them was full of emotion.
Chi Ye furrowed her brow. She didn’t know what else to do.
“Unless…” Chu Jin paused and swallowed. “You give me a bigger living allowance next month as compensation.”
Chi Ye looked slightly confused, but still nodded right away.
“I’ll message He Xian now.”
She was about to stand and get her phone, but Chu Jin pressed her shoulder gently.
“Do it later.”
Chu Jin had already calmed down. Only a few tears still lingered on her lashes. They looked like tiny crystals under the light, sparkling faintly. Combined with her slightly red eyes, she looked delicate and impossible to resist.
Chi Ye stared at her, momentarily lost in thought.
“President Chi, I just want to ask you one question.”
Chu Jin had been holding it in all day. Now she finally looked at Chi Ye seriously and asked.
“Go ahead.”
She hesitated for a moment, carefully choosing her words.
Then she finally spoke the question she had been too afraid to ask.
“Do you like Wan Qing?”
Her voice trembled slightly, as if she feared the answer. She held her breath, waiting for a response.
“Never.”
Chi Ye answered without a moment’s hesitation.
Hearing such a clear response, Chu Jin finally felt at ease. The anxiety that had been tightening in her chest finally released.
The emotional tension that had stretched almost to the breaking point began to soften. She smiled, genuinely and warmly.
She reached out, gently placed her hands on Chi Ye’s shoulders, and leaned forward.
Then she kissed her softly on the lips.
Meanwhile, in the Azalea Room, the atmosphere was already heated.
After the camera was turned off, Wan Qing took a shower and immediately joined Qiao Man. They didn’t bother with small talk. Their bodies intertwined in passionate movement, and Wan Qing poured all the emotions of the day into Qiao Man without holding back.
When it was over, Wan Qing stood by the window alone and lit a cigarette.
Her tall, thin frame looked even more fragile now. Even under the oversized shirt, her bony figure was impossible to ignore. The sharp lines of her body showed a kind of hollow beauty.
Qiao Man, wearing a shawl, her cheeks still flushed, came up behind her and wrapped her arms around Wan Qing’s waist. She gently rested her cheek on Wan Qing’s back.
“It’s been days since I saw you. I really missed you,” she said softly.
Wan Qing’s eyes flickered with impatience at the unexpected hug.
She lifted her hand and pushed Qiao Man’s arms away, then glanced back at her.
“Did you take care of what I asked you to do?”
Qiao Man’s eyes dimmed for a moment, but she quickly recovered and smiled.
“Don’t worry. It’s done.”
“Do you call every woman ‘sister’?” Wan Qing’s eyes were full of disdain as she looked at her.
Then she turned away again, exhaled a puff of smoke, and faced the window.
In this show, she had only ever called Chu Jin “sister.” So hearing Qiao Man say it now made her sound jealous.
That thought gave Qiao Man a hint of satisfaction. She swayed her hips slightly as she walked to Wan Qing’s side.
With flirtatious eyes, she leaned closer.
“From now on, I’ll only call you that.”
But Wan Qing ignored her. She exhaled slowly, narrowed her eyes, and spoke in a low voice.
“After today, Chi Ye will break up with her little girlfriend.”
Her dark eyes stared out the window at the distant, quiet Linhe River.
She had known Chi Ye for many years. She was confident that she understood her better than anyone else. No matter how calm Chi Ye looked on the outside, it was all just an act.
In reality, she was nowhere near as strong as she tried to seem.
Especially in a situation like this, Chi Ye would undoubtedly push Chu Jin away, trying to sever all ties between them.
She always thought this way. She believed it was the only way to protect Chu Jin.
When they had dinner together the night before, Wan Qing had already confirmed her suspicions. The two were now acting like complete strangers.
As a result, the “Reserved Couple” pairing quickly lost its online popularity.
Thinking about Chi Ye falling back into trouble, Wan Qing’s eyes sparkled. She could not hide the excitement bubbling inside her.
Qiao Man nodded along and said, “Looks like the Reserved CP has officially ended in tragedy.”
Wan Qing appeared to be in a good mood. She reached out and wrapped an arm around Qiao Man’s shoulder, then used her other hand to snuff out the cigarette between her fingers.
She pulled Qiao Man closer by the waist and carried her toward the bed with confident steps.
The next morning, Wan Qing came downstairs after freshening up.
She was in a relatively good mood. She was looking forward to seeing how heartbroken and distant the couple she had broken apart would appear today.
But as soon as she came down, she saw Chu Jin feeding Chi Ye from across the room.
Their gestures were intimate, filled with tenderness and affection.
Today, Chu Jin had even intentionally worn matching clothes with Chi Ye. The two of them looked like they were in full couple mode. They had come downstairs holding hands, walked together through the living room, the kitchen, and now the dining room. They were completely inseparable.
Bai Xuqing had cooked wontons, and Chu Jin had served a bowl for herself. Instead of sitting across from Chi Ye, she sat right beside her. As she ate, she kept glancing toward the stairs.
The moment she spotted Wan Qing entering the room, she scooped up a wonton, gently blew on it to cool it down, and brought it to Chi Ye’s lips.
“Here, try one,” Chu Jin said softly, her expression full of tenderness.
She looked completely different from just moments earlier.
Chi Ye had just picked up her coffee when she paused. Although she was slightly puzzled by Chu Jin’s behavior, she didn’t refuse.
She opened her mouth and took a bite.
Right at that moment, Wan Qing’s voice rang out.
“Since when do you eat carbs in the morning?” Her tone was odd, and her face looked terrible.
Chi Ye immediately understood what Chu Jin had been trying to do.
Chu Jin had already told her about the plan the night before. Since Wan Qing was determined to drive them apart, the best response was not to fall for it. Instead, they had to act even more loving, even more affectionate than before.
“Oh? You don’t eat this in the morning?” Chu Jin replied with a surprised expression. “Why didn’t you ever tell me?”
Then she looked up at Wan Qing and smiled.
“If you hadn’t said anything, I still wouldn’t know.”
She turned back to Chi Ye and continued with a soft voice.
“Don’t do this again, alright? Don’t always sacrifice your own comfort just to make me happy.”
As she spoke, she gently reached out and tucked a loose strand of hair behind Chi Ye’s ear.
“I feel bad when you do that.”
Her gaze was full of affection, her tone gentle and tender.
Wan Qing’s face turned visibly darker.
Without saying another word, she turned around and left the dining room.
Chi Ye watched Wan Qing’s retreating figure with a trace of concern in her eyes.
“What you just did might provoke her,” she said.
Chu Jin didn’t seem worried at all.
“Are you afraid of her?”
“I’m afraid she might hurt you,” Chi Ye answered.
Chu Jin was caught off guard by that response. It made her heart tremble.
“Then you don’t need to worry,” she said with a smile. “I’m not afraid of her.”
“And with you protecting me, I have nothing to fear.”
Yesterday, Chu Jin had asked Song Xunyu to look into Wan Qing’s background. Although Wan Qing came from a powerful family, the Chi family wasn’t ordinary either. More importantly, the Wan family was large and complex, with many extended branches. Wan Qing was not a particularly favored daughter, which meant she had limited real power or financial control.
Compared to Chi Ye, who had her own business and influence, Wan Qing was no more than a paper tiger. She posed no real threat.
Chi Ye looked at her quietly.
“You’re not afraid that I might not be a good person?”
Her gaze was deep, and her voice carried a hint of coldness.
“If you’re a bad person, it’s already too late,” Chu Jin replied casually.
She scooped up another wonton and blew on it lightly.
“We’re already married. That makes us grasshoppers tied to the same rope. We rise and fall together now.”
Chi Ye’s eyes flickered, but she didn’t continue the conversation. Instead, she lowered her gaze and glanced at the spoon in Chu Jin’s hand.
“I want another one,” she said softly.
A smile tugged at the corner of Chu Jin’s lips.
She brought the spoon to Chi Ye’s mouth.
“It was meant for you anyway,” she said.
