After Marrying the Cold Omega in Secret - Chapter 37
Everyone was surprised by her words. Their eyes shifted between the two of them.
Chi Ye’s expression was darker than usual.
Faced with Wan Qing’s greeting, she did not respond. She simply gave her a cold look and turned away.
Although the other guests could sense the tension between them, since the show was live, no one allowed the silence to last too long.
Qiao Man quickly stepped forward and took Wan Qing’s suitcase.
“We’re roommates. I’ll take you to your room.”
They followed the usual routine. After settling in and moving her luggage, everyone gathered in the first-floor living room to chat and help her get familiar with the surroundings. Perhaps because most of them already knew who Wan Qing was, the atmosphere felt slightly awkward and restrained.
Ever since Wan Qing arrived, Chu Jin noticed that something seemed off with Chi Ye.
On the surface, she looked the same as always, calm and indifferent. But only Chu Jin could tell that inside, Chi Ye was far from composed. In brief, subtle moments, her eyes showed a hint of unease.
Wan Qing did not like cold drinks. Qiao Man had been very attentive, and after asking her preferences, she made hot tea for her new roommate.
Wan Qing accepted the cup without setting it on the table. Instead, she cupped it in her hands and calmly scanned the group around her. Eventually, her gaze landed on Chu Jin.
“Do you have someone you’re interested in yet?” she asked slowly.
Although her tone was gentle, her attitude carried a condescending air. It felt less like a question and more like an interrogation.
Chu Jin immediately sensed the unfriendly intent in her eyes. Her instincts as a long-time alpha told her with certainty that Wan Qing was also an alpha, and right now she had entered a competitive and adversarial state.
Wan Qing was showing clear hostility toward her.
It confirmed what Qiao Man had said earlier. Wan Qing had come here for someone.
And now, Chu Jin could be completely certain. That person was Chi Ye.
Yet Chi Ye had said she had no past relationship experience.
Wan Qing clearly shared a deep and complicated history with her.
A heavy feeling settled in Chu Jin’s chest, making her uncomfortable.
The atmosphere was already a little tense. Everyone was still unfamiliar with each other, and Wan Qing’s first question only made things more awkward. No one answered for a moment until Qiao Man finally broke the silence.
“I do,” she said with a bright smile, her eyes focused firmly on Chi Ye. “From the first day I arrived, I said I fell for Jin Jie at first sight. I joined this show for her, and she’s still the one I’m interested in.”
Chu Jin felt a bit uneasy hearing the straightforward confession. Qiao Man smiled, but something about it felt off.
The smile looked forced, and the words didn’t feel like a sincere confession. Instead, they sounded more like a declaration, as if she were reading a rehearsed script.
Maybe it was something the director had arranged.
Perhaps they added this storyline last minute to create more drama for the show.
Chu Jin quietly considered the possibility. But when she glanced at Chi Ye, it seemed like she was unaware of this supposed plot.
“But Chu Jin must have someone else she’s interested in, right?” Wan Qing set down her cup and looked up at Chu Jin. Her smile carried an unclear meaning.
She acted as though she was just joining the conversation, but every sentence was directed at Chu Jin.
Chu Jin had already sensed from the start that Wan Qing was not here with good intentions. She did not want to speak unnecessarily, but since Wan Qing kept drawing her into the conversation, it would be rude to ignore her completely.
Chu Jin turned to look at her and gave a brief smile as she replied,
“We’ll find out on the final confession day.”
That statement clearly signaled she wanted to end the conversation, but Wan Qing had no intention of stopping. In fact, her interest only seemed to grow.
Wan Qing sat up straighter, her eyes sparkling with curiosity as she asked,
“Will you and Chi Ye confess to each other?”
She smiled, but there was no warmth in it. Her deep, dark eyes held a chill that sent a subtle shiver through the air.
By now, the conversation was starting to veer into dangerous territory. The director, sensing the tension, quickly cut to a commercial, pausing the live broadcast.
The other guests realized something was off. Although they were curious to hear more gossip, Wan Qing’s status made them think twice. One by one, they found excuses to leave.
Chu Jin also wanted to walk away, but she could not help feeling concerned for Chi Ye.
Although she had no idea what had happened between the two of them, her sharp instincts told her that Wan Qing’s feelings for Chi Ye were anything but simple.
There had been jealousy in her words, but it was not the kind born of simple attraction or affection. It felt heavier, as if it were mixed with resentment and unresolved bitterness.
Wan Qing, on the other hand, seemed completely unaffected by the others leaving. She did not even lift her eyes.
She did not care about any of that. She was entirely caught up in her own world, like an excited child who had found the center of attention.
“After the confession, will you be officially together?” Wan Qing continued. “Are you planning to get married?”
Her tone sounded like excited curiosity, but her eyes shifted constantly between joy and ice-cold sharpness.
The contradiction in her expression was unsettling.
Chu Jin frowned slightly. She felt that something about this woman’s mental state was not entirely normal.
No one responded, but Wan Qing still did not stop.
She turned to Chi Ye and spoke with exaggerated emotion,
“You’re so lucky, Chi Ye.”
“You’ve started chasing after a happy life, President Chi.”
From the moment she saw this woman, Chu Jin had sensed something dangerous. And now, even though she could not fully understand what Wan Qing was getting at, her worry for Chi Ye grew stronger.
Chi Ye had always been proud and composed. Even though she did not like to speak much, she had spent years navigating the business world. She was no stranger to confrontation. So why was she staying silent now and letting someone attack her with words?
Chi Ye kept her gaze lowered, her emotions unreadable. A long pause followed.
Then, she slowly lifted her eyes, the coldness returning to her face.
“When did you return to the country?”
Wan Qing caught her gaze. The moment their eyes met, her expression returned to calm, and she stared at Chi Ye without flinching.
“I came back when you did.”
“I was surprised to see you on a dating show,” Wan Qing said in a level voice, though the words were far from simple. “I remember you had a cute little girlfriend before. So, have you replaced her now?”
Chi Ye’s long, narrow eyes flicked toward her.
Her gaze was razor-sharp, cutting through the air like a blade.
“Don’t worry,” Wan Qing said with a smile. She reached into her bag and pulled out a cigarette. Lighting it, she took a slow drag.
Smoke curled from her fingers, drifting softly upward. She raised the hand holding the cigarette and casually glanced at Chu Jin.
“Do you mind?”
It sounded like a polite question, but the tone made it clear that she did not really care about the answer. It carried the subtle message that if Chu Jin did mind, she could leave.
“President Chi doesn’t smoke anymore?” Wan Qing turned the topic back to Chi Ye, narrowing her eyes slightly.
Chi Ye gave no response.
Wan Qing gave a quiet laugh and raised an eyebrow at Chu Jin.
“She used to smoke even more than I did.”
“There’s no need to talk about the past,” Chi Ye cut in, her voice cold and firm.
Wan Qing paused. The fingers holding her cigarette trembled slightly. It was unclear whether the smoke had stung her eyes or if something else was to blame, but the corners of her eyes turned slightly red. A faint shine flickered in her eyes, like a thin layer of mist waiting to fall.
But it quickly disappeared.
Wan Qing didn’t reply. She finished her last drag, stubbed the cigarette out in the ashtray, and stood up.
She walked upstairs without looking back.
Only her silhouette remained behind, along with six quiet words.
“You want to forget. But you can’t.”
