After Marrying the Cold Omega in Secret - Chapter 24
Just as Chu Jin was about to touch Chi Ye’s lips, she turned her head slightly. In the end, the kiss only landed at the corner of Chi Ye’s mouth. It was light, brief, and barely there before she pulled away.
Even in the face of such temptation, Chu Jin was surprised at herself. Somehow, she managed to pull her scattered thoughts back together.
Maybe it was because she didn’t want to hurt Chi Ye in a moment like this.
In situations like this, a kiss might seem harmless, just a small act of desire. But in truth, it would be like opening a floodgate. Once started, it would be impossible to stop.
It would never end with just a kiss.
Although it was just a light brush against the corner of her lips, Chi Ye still felt a tightness in her chest. Her heartbeat became erratic.
She wanted more. She wanted to lose control and take it all.
But Chu Jin regained her clarity first. Chi Ye heard her whisper to herself, “No, I can’t do this.”
She quickly sat up and let go of Chi Ye.
Her movements were rushed. After getting off Chi Ye, she even stepped back to put some space between them.
She clenched her hands into fists, trying to steady her breathing.
Chu Jin dug her fingernails into her palms, trying to use the pain to distract herself from her body’s craving. By the time her mind settled down, red marks had already formed in her palm.
She got out of bed and began searching through the storage cabinet. She seemed to be looking for something, but after a while, she still couldn’t find it.
Although Chi Ye had never experienced a sensitivity period before, she could imagine it was very similar to her own heat cycles. Both were painful and difficult to endure.
Seeing Chu Jin like this made her worried. She asked softly, “Are you alright?”
“My sensitivity period came early,” Chu Jin answered with difficulty. She placed the bag she had brought on the ground, took everything out piece by piece, and searched again. But still, she found nothing.
Left with no other option, she looked at Chi Ye and asked for help. “I think I forgot to bring my suppressant. Do you have one?”
Chi Ye paused.
She did have suppressants, but they were for heat cycles, not sensitivity periods. The formulas were different and couldn’t be used interchangeably. So she shook her head and said, “No, I don’t.”
“Then I’ll go ask the crew,” Chu Jin said as she grabbed a coat and moved toward the door.
She was clearly unwell and had no energy to care about her appearance. Her face was tense, her hair messy, and her clothes wrinkled.
If someone saw her like this, it would reflect badly on her image.
She was still a public figure. If someone with bad intentions took a picture and posted it online, it would become a scandal.
Chi Ye quickly got up and grabbed her hand before she could open the door.
“Stay here. I’ll go look for it.”
Chu Jin was in no condition to argue. Since Chi Ye offered, she nodded and stayed.
Chi Ye quickly tidied her hair, threw on a coat, and left the room. After she was gone, Chu Jin still felt terrible. She stumbled into the bathroom, splashed cold water on her face, and tried to calm the fire burning inside her.
She finally returned to the bed. During sensitivity periods, an alpha’s senses were heightened. Every breath and every heartbeat felt ten times stronger.
Every second was hard to endure. Lying on her side, Chu Jin felt the room spinning. Chaotic and messy images flooded her mind like waves crashing against the shore.
At the same time, she couldn’t stop replaying what had just happened. She had pinned Chi Ye down and kissed her at the corner of her mouth. That was all that had really happened.
But in her mind, the fantasy didn’t stop. It only grew more intense.
In her imagination, she didn’t stop. She kissed her deeper and harder, until both of them were out of breath. Her lips moved down over flushed skin, exploring every inch.
Her hands moved freely, tracing every soft curve.
She wanted to take everything, to watch the girl beneath her cry and beg with red eyes.
At the peak of it all, she bit down on her scent gland, and the two of them ended in trembling release.
The fantasy kept going. Her mind kept painting more images until suddenly, in the dream, Chi Ye’s expression turned cold. She raised her hand and slapped Chu Jin across the face.
“You’re disgusting.”
That slap brought Chu Jin back to her senses instantly.
Just then, the door opened. Chi Ye had returned.
Seeing her face, Chu Jin remembered her earlier fantasy and felt a wave of guilt.
She slowly sat up, avoiding eye contact.
Clearing her throat, she asked, “Did you find any?”
Chi Ye noticed the sweat on Chu Jin’s forehead and the redness on her cheeks. She could imagine the kind of pain Chu Jin had just gone through.
“Yes,” Chi Ye said, lifting the paper bag in her hand. “I got three doses.”
“You should take one now.” She handed the bag over. “He Zhu will bring more tomorrow.”
Chu Jin had said her sensitivity periods were severe, and sometimes even suppressants didn’t work well. So the ones prepared by the crew might not be effective enough.
She still had to interact with other guests during the day. Chi Ye would never allow her to develop feelings for anyone else. That was why she had already told He Zhu to deliver the best suppressant available in the country first thing in the morning.
Chu Jin took the bag, pulled out one dose, and raised her hand to remove the patch on the back of her neck.
That movement startled Chi Ye.
Luckily, Chu Jin noticed the change in her expression and stopped in time. The patch was still in place.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
During sensitivity periods, an alpha’s pheromones were dozens of times stronger than usual. Last time, even the slightest scent had triggered Chi Ye’s heat cycle early. If Chu Jin exposed her gland in front of her now, she didn’t want to imagine how her body might react.
But she couldn’t let Chu Jin suspect anything. Now wasn’t the right time for her to learn the truth about her real secondary gender.
Chi Ye found an excuse. “Your scent gland is the most private and sensitive part of your body. You should go to the bathroom.”
Chu Jin didn’t question her. Holding the suppressant, she went into the bathroom.
After injecting the dose, she also changed to a new patch.
Within three minutes, her emotions had calmed down significantly. Even lying next to Chi Ye, she only needed a little bit of restraint to stay composed.
An alpha’s sensitivity period happened once a month and lasted around five days. The first two days were the most intense. After that, it usually got easier. So Chi Ye reminded her to rest in the room tomorrow and not go downstairs unless it was absolutely necessary.
At times like this, it was safest to be alone. Chu Jin clutched the edge of the blanket and nodded. “Alright.”
After a moment of silence, something came to her mind. She turned to look at Chi Ye and asked, “President Chi, we’ve been living together for almost a month now. Why have I never seen you go through a sensitivity period?”
Chi Ye’s eyelid twitched. She didn’t answer directly, only gave a vague reply. “It’s coming soon.”
Chu Jin seemed thoughtful. She hesitated several times before finally asking,
“Do you feel anything for other alphas?”
After what had just happened, she was beginning to question the theories she had always believed. According to biology, except for betas who could pair with the same type, alphas and omegas weren’t supposed to feel attraction to their own kind. In fact, they were supposed to repel each other.
But why did she have such a strong reaction to Chi Ye?
Chi Ye could tell what Chu Jin was thinking. Afraid she would grow suspicious, she gave a vague reply. “Sometimes I do.”
For Chi Ye, that wasn’t a lie. As an omega, it was natural for her to feel something toward an alpha.
Hearing that, Chu Jin finally felt somewhat reassured. At least she wasn’t alone in this. Maybe every secondary gender had its own special exceptions.
Her tired body could not keep up with her thoughts for long. Eventually, sleep took over. Her heavy eyelids slowly closed, and within a minute, she was sound asleep.
The next morning, Chi Ye woke up early. She noticed that the floor was still covered with the things Chu Jin had scattered while searching the night before. She knelt down and began picking them up gently, putting everything back into the bag.
Most of the items were small and personal. There were scent-blocking patches, heat packs, and a stack of letters.
Chi Ye froze for a moment.
Her eyes settled on one envelope. It was slightly yellowed, and the handwriting was delicate and beautiful. On the front, it read, “To Jin Jin.”
She stared at it, lost in thought, when she heard Chu Jin shift behind her. Chi Ye quickly snapped out of her daze, carefully placed the letters into the bag, and put it back in the cabinet.
She walked quietly over to the bed. Chu Jin was still fast asleep, the corners of her mouth slightly lifted as if she were smiling.
She must be having a very sweet dream.
Seeing her like this, Chi Ye felt her own expression soften. She gently tucked the blanket around Chu Jin, then quietly left the room.
In her dream, Chu Jin really was smiling. She had dreamed about Chi Ye.
In the dream, they went on a trip together. Their destination was the beach Chu Jin had wanted to visit for five years.
They held hands as they watched the sunrise on the sand. In the evening, they clinked glasses while standing under the golden sunset, sharing a kiss. At night, they made love in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows in their ocean-view room.
That was when Chu Jin suddenly woke up.
Her heart was still pounding.
Daylight had already filled the room. Chi Ye was no longer there. Chu Jin remembered that it was Chi Ye’s turn to cook today, so she had probably gone out to buy groceries.
Chu Jin stretched in bed, then got up and went to the bathroom to wash up. When she walked over to the window to open the curtains, she noticed something unexpected on the table.
A breakfast had been neatly placed there.
On the plate was a sandwich. It did not look very fancy. The toast was a little burnt, but the filling inside was generous and balanced, full of protein and vitamins. Next to it was a cup of hand-brewed coffee.
It was obvious this breakfast had been made by Chi Ye.
Chu Jin felt both surprised and touched. A quiet sweetness rose in her chest.
On her phone screen, Chu Jin was shown taking a bite of the sandwich. Watching from behind the scenes, Chi Ye smiled.
The livestream chat quickly filled with excitement.
[I knew this couple likes each other.]
[Whoever said they broke up yesterday better open their eyes now.]
[But didn’t they barely interact yesterday? Why are they fine today?]
[It is just a couple’s argument. They always make up quickly.]
[I knew they were in love.]
[Chi Ye is terrible at cooking. If she still made breakfast for someone, that means something.]
Chi Ye smiled as she read the comments. Each one seemed to speak to her heart, and she gave them all likes. But when she saw the last comment, her smile faded a little.
She had just accidentally cut her finger while slicing vegetables. That did not mean she was a bad cook, did it?
Chu Jin picked up the sandwich. She chose the section with the most filling and took a big bite.
As soon as the taste hit her tongue, she nearly spit it out.
The sandwich looked rough, and it tasted even worse.
But she was on camera now. No matter what, she had to keep eating.
There were so many viewers watching. What if Chi Ye was one of them?
When she saw Chu Jin finish the sandwich, Chi Ye felt proud. She quickly replied to the comment that had mocked her cooking.
[Chu Jin finished the sandwich. That proves Chi Ye is not bad at cooking.]
The reply came back right away.
[It looked awful. Are you secretly Chi Ye’s alternate account?]
Chi Ye stopped replying after that. She did not dare continue. She was honestly a little afraid they might find out it was her.
Chu Jin, unaware of the online exchange, was struggling to finish her food. Every bite felt like a challenge. She chewed as little as possible and swallowed quickly, afraid that if she tasted it too much, she would not be able to keep eating.
When she finally took the last bite, she quickly reached for the coffee and drank a large sip.
Only then did her mouth feel a little better.
That sandwich was honestly the most awful thing she had ever tasted.
It was overly salty, drenched in mayonnaise, and for some reason, it even had a numbing hint of Sichuan pepper. On top of that, there was a faint trace of cinnamon.
In short, it tasted absolutely terrible.
Someone like Chi Ye should be permanently banned from entering a kitchen.
The warmth and gratitude Chu Jin had felt when she first saw the breakfast completely disappeared the moment she took the first bite.
She even began to wonder if Chi Ye had done it on purpose, just to mess with her. Maybe it was revenge for that kiss she had failed to hold back last night.
