After Losing My Memory, I Went After My Archenemy - Chapter 21
She was like a stray dog, wandering by the roadside.
As the bus drove on, it quickly left that figure behind, and Lin Xi could no longer see her.
The sky suddenly began to rain. Xia Rou looked up to confirm it—they were indeed raindrops. She helplessly pulled at the corner of her mouth, finally understanding the phrase “misfortunes never come singly.”
Unfortunately, there was no suitable place to shelter from the rain in this area. Looking back, the nearest spot was the bus stop. Without hesitation, Xia Rou took off running towards it.
The secluded bus stop was empty save for her. Xia Rou looked up at the notice board; the last bus had just passed.
She quickly looked around; even passing taxis were rare on this road. She didn’t know how she had wandered here. If she couldn’t get a taxi tonight, she would have to spend the night at this stop.
Xia Rou glanced at her phone but still didn’t want to lower herself to contact the driver at home.
Perhaps Uncle Liu had already contacted her parents. She didn’t want them to know her whereabouts.
The rain was getting heavier. She sat alone on the long bench, staring blankly at the curtain of rain beneath the eaves.
“I didn’t expect to run into you here.”
A clear, magnetic voice suddenly drifted from behind Xia Rou. She was slightly startled and immediately turned her head.
Lin Xi looked over, feigning the look of an accidental encounter. Her expression was still distant, mixed with a hint of disbelief.
Almost instantly, Xia Rou’s face lit up, and the night’s terrible mood vanished. She widened her eyes and said, incredulously, “I didn’t expect to see you here either, but it’s so late, why are you here?”
“Just finished work.”
Lin Xi’s answer was brief and concise. As she spoke, she intentionally or unintentionally glanced at Xia Rou’s face.
Xia Rou: “Is it a part-time job?”
Lin Xi: “Have you been crying?”
They spoke at the same time, and both paused.
The next second, Xia Rou awkwardly rubbed her eyes, trying to cover up the traces, but it didn’t have much effect.
“I guess… so.”
The Omega lowered her head, convinced that she must look terrible right now, and her makeup was probably a mess.
She was both happy to see Lin Xi and unhappy to see her in such a state—an extremely conflicted feeling.
Seeing that Lin Xi didn’t say anything, Xia Rou, afraid of an awkward silence, took the initiative to tell her about her evening’s misfortunes. The more she spoke, the more wronged she felt.
Lin Xi listened quietly without interrupting, but she stood by and kept watching. She saw the Omega pouting, looking like she was desperately trying not to cry, but in the end, tears still streamed down her face.
Taking a tissue from her bag and handing it over, Lin Xi said softly, “I’ll call a taxi for you to go back.”
Unexpectedly, Xia Rou grabbed her hand and shook her head with a choked voice, “No, I don’t want to go back, I don’t want to go back…”
Lin Xi’s heart tightened, and she couldn’t help but ask, “…You don’t want to go back this late, what do you want to do?”
“I’m a little hungry. Can you take me to get something to eat?”
Xia Rou looked up at her, her eyes misty with tears, the words carrying a hint of pleading.
The Alpha’s brows furrowed sharply. Her throat felt slightly dry, and standing there, she felt at a loss for the first time.
The next second, she abruptly turned her head to look out at the rain, and said hoarsely, “…Let’s talk after the rain stops a bit.”
The autumn rain came quickly and left just as fast.
Lin Xi kept her promise and took Xia Rou to eat. However, not many places were open late, so they went to a small, not-yet-closed shop nearby.
The shop was run by a Beta grandmother with white hair and somewhat slow movements.
“You came late, there’s not much left to eat in the shop,” the grandmother said with a kind smile, meaning she hoped they wouldn’t mind.
Most of the food in the shop was pre-made cooked dishes, but as the grandmother said, there weren’t many choices left, so they just ordered a few random items.
Sitting on a very antique chair, Xia Rou looked around and couldn’t help but smile, “This is the first time I’ve eaten at a shop like this in my life.”
Lin Xi looked up at her but didn’t say anything.
Afraid she misunderstood, Xia Rou waved her hand and quickly explained, “I don’t mean to look down on this place, absolutely not!”
“I wonder if they have iced soy milk here. I suddenly feel like drinking it.”
The Omega sat obediently in her seat, her deer-like eyes looking around.
Soon the food was served. Lin Xi stopped the grandmother and politely asked, “Grandma, do you have iced soy milk here?”
“Soy milk? I don’t sell it here. I think the fast food place next door has it, but it’s closed now. But I have my special rice wine. I brewed it myself; it’s delicious and won’t make you drunk.”
“I want to try it!” Xia Rou raised her hand quickly, like answering a question in class.
Before long, the rice wine was also served. Xia Rou took a sip immediately—it was sweet and quite tasty.
The next second, she encouraged Lin Xi to try it, but she was refused.
“It’s really good. Are you sure you don’t want to try it?”
Xia Rou held the rice wine and kept shaking it in front of her.
Seeing that her state had returned to normal, Lin Xi simply checked the time and reminded her seriously, “You should go back after you finish eating.”
The Omega immediately deflated like a flat ball, sitting obediently, eating her food, and daring not to fool around anymore.
Why wouldn’t this wine make her drunk? If she were drunk, she wouldn’t have to go home, right?
Xia Rou thought to herself, then waved her hand and called out, “Grandma, I want another pot!”
Lin Xi frowned but was too late to stop her.
After finishing the second pot, she still didn’t feel any signs of drunkenness; Xia Rou was completely sober.
Never mind, she’ll just pretend to be drunk.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Lin Xi returning after paying the bill. The next second, she slumped over the table and began to pretend to be fast asleep.
“Hey?”
Her arm was gently poked, but Xia Rou kept still.
The grandmother came over to check, also puzzled, “That’s strange. This wine of mine never makes people drunk. Maybe this girl has a very low tolerance?”
Since they had delayed the shop’s closing time, Lin Xi apologized and first helped Xia Rou up from the table. Throughout the process, Xia Rou leaned her entire weight on Lin Xi, determined to make the act convincing.
Seeing this, the grandmother said, “It looks like she really is drunk. Hurry and take her home to rest.”
After leaving the small shop, Lin Xi finally said helplessly, “…Stop pretending.”
Xia Rou burrowed into her embrace, neither answering nor speaking.
“I’ll take you back,” Lin Xi said again, more directly.
“No, I don’t want to go home…”
The Omega swayed in place, hugging Lin Xi’s waist, her feet seeming unstable.
Could she really be drunk?
Lin Xi was half-skeptical.
She pursed her lips and probed again, “How can you not go home?”
“No, I just don’t want to go home. Take me to a hotel.”
The Omega’s coquettish tone was sweet and soft, like soft feathers tickling the listener’s ear.
Lin Xi’s face instantly flushed, and her heart pounded faster.
