- Chapter 64 - Five-Fingered Lady (The Hand)
“Then you really are selfish.” Jin Lin’s expression turned playful. “You want to monopolize her, but you’re unwilling to accept her feelings for you. You say you only see her as a sister, but in reality, you’re enjoying her lover-like affection while only reciprocating with the affection due to a little sister.”
“Or are you saying you’re afraid to break the taboo of sisters?”
Ji Fanghuai’s eyebrows were tightly furrowed. She and Jiang Zhi have been close since childhood. When she first noticed Jiang Zhi being targeted by Jin Lin, she was still young, just entering high school, and her thoughts were relatively childish—of course, her own sister couldn’t be shared with anyone else.
So, every time she encountered Jin Lin, she didn’t give her a pleasant look. At that time, she was a high school student, and Jin Lin, because she liked Jiang Zhi, even went out of her way to please her, but was unfortunately met with a cold shoulder.
Later, when Jiang Zhi confessed to her, she felt surprised. She truly only saw Jiang Zhi as a sister at the time. Now that Jin Lin brought it up, she felt a sense of guilt.
She felt as if she was genuinely selfish. She had a strong sense of possessiveness toward Jiang Zhi, yet she wouldn’t accept her feelings, thinking they were incompatible with their sisterly bond.
What was even more ridiculous was that she went, thick-skinned, to ask for an autograph from someone she previously disliked. Ji Fanghuai wished she could slap her past self for asking for the signature. Fortunately, Jin Lin’s character wasn’t bad, and she truly liked Princess Gaoyang. Losing her memory also allowed her to break her prejudices and see people anew.
She said dryly, “That’s none of your business.”
The relationship between women is not limited to just kinship and romance; perhaps there’s something more than kinship, yet less than romance.
“It’s true that it’s none of my business. Then, thank you, Miss Ji, for coming to visit me. I still have some signed photos of Gaoyang and Wu Meiniang here.” Jin Lin is very aloof when she doesn’t smile, but when she smiles, she is as approachable as an older sister next door.
She was injured while filming a fight scene when she fell off a horse. Fortunately, the horse had been professionally trained and stopped moving after the rider fell, so she only injured her arm when she fell.
Ji Fanghuai felt a momentary flutter when she heard about the signed photos, but she had already decided to only be a fan of Wu Meiniang. She turned her head and snorted softly, “I wouldn’t want them even if you gave them to me.”
Jin Lin pursed her lips, chuckled lightly, and said, “No wonder Jiang Zhi likes you so much. You’re so cute, and now even I like you a little bit.”
Ji Fanghuai glared at her, not caring for her affection.
The two sat in silence. Jin Lin, who knows what got into her, kept flirting with her peach blossom eyes. Though there were four people, who knows what Jiang Zhi and Xin Ling were discussing.
Ji Fanghuai looked over uncomfortably and saw that Jiang Zhi and Xin Ling were actually playing games on the balcony. Perhaps sensing her gaze, Jiang Zhi also looked over at her.
Jiang Zhi’s gaming was just a pretense; she had basically overheard the entire conversation between Ji Fanghuai and Jin Lin. She pretended to be curious and asked, “What were you two just talking about?”
Ji Fanghuai’s eyes were indifferent. “Nothing.”
Jiang Zhi didn’t ask further, but Ji Fanghuai had something she wanted to say.
It just wasn’t convenient here.
After eating at Jin Lin’s house and returning home, Ji Fanghuai was holding Xixi (her cat) when she suddenly asked Jiang Zhi, “Do you still remember when I asked you if you would ever get married?”
At that time, she didn’t know Jiang Zhi liked her; she was just curious and possessive, wanting to know if Jiang Zhi would marry in the future. She even asked Jiang Zhi if she had a boyfriend or girlfriend, and thankfully, Jiang Zhi had neither at that time.
Jiang Zhi’s eyebrows moved slightly. “I remember. Back then, I said I wouldn’t marry anyone else, and you said… that you were a non-marriage advocate and didn’t plan to get married.”
Ji Fanghuai felt a bit embarrassed thinking about the things she said in her naive youth. To be precise, she wasn’t anti-marriage, but she wouldn’t marry just to settle.
And what Jiang Zhi said was that she wouldn’t marry anyone else, not that she wouldn’t marry her. Everything seemed to have a traceable path.
Ji Fanghuai said a little bashfully, “Actually, when I heard you say you wouldn’t get married, I just wanted to save money so we could live in the best nursing home together later.”
She was in university at the time, and her thoughts were simpler.
Jiang Zhi hadn’t expected Ji Fanghuai to have that thought. She was a little excited and surprised, smiling so widely that her eye bags were very noticeable. She said, “My thought was different from yours. Although I hadn’t yet confirmed my feelings for you at that time, I thought: I want to take care of Fanghuai, to support her for a lifetime.”
Looking back, even before they fully understood each other’s feelings, they had already placed each other in the most important position. It seemed sweet in a way, and also a bit childish.
Ji Fanghuai was a little shy. Jiang Zhi’s gaze was too intense, and she avoided it, lowering her head to look at Xixi.
Jiang Zhi reached out, lifted Xixi from Ji Fanghuai’s arms, took her hand, and asked seriously, “Fanghuai, tell me honestly, when I first confessed to you, did you ever consider being with me?”
Ji Fanghuai thought carefully, not wanting to lie to her. She shook her head and said, “I hadn’t thought about it.”
Although she and Jiang Zhi have different parents and no blood relation, she had always seen Jiang Zhi as her sister and had never thought about dating her. So, her first reaction upon hearing Jiang Zhi’s confession was to reject her.
She thought her feelings for Jiang Zhi at that time were probably just that strange sense of possessiveness.
Jiang Zhi was a little disappointed. She said, “It’s fine if you think about it now.”
Ji Fanghuai didn’t want Jiang Zhi to be disappointed. Like handling an antique, she kneaded Jiang Zhi’s fingers joint by joint, analyzing seriously, “Actually, I’m not as good as you think. Some of my thoughts are very dark. I feel like my sunny and cheerful appearance is all a lie.”
Jiang Zhi’s fingers felt tingly. She asked, “For example?”
Ji Fanghuai said with difficulty, “For example, I once had a thought that you could only be my sister; I didn’t want you to like anyone else, couldn’t accept you being with someone else, and didn’t even allow others to call you ‘sister’.”
Ji Dongyuan never calls Jiang Zhi ‘sister,’ which makes Ji Fanghuai very happy.
This point might be a trouble for others, but for Jiang Zhi, it was more like honey.
She felt even more that Ji Fanghuai might like her without knowing it. She asked, “Did you ever have desire for me before?”
Whether there is desire is one way to verify affection. Many people’s affection for someone begins with the production of desire.
The most laughable thing is that desire, which is as natural as eating, might lead to the text being blocked if discussed too much here.
Ji Fanghuai understood what Jiang Zhi wanted to ask. She stopped kneading Jiang Zhi’s fingers, moved her gaze from Jiang Zhi’s long fingers, slowly moved to Jiang Zhi’s chest, her face gradually heating up, and said seriously, “I didn’t before.”
That means she does now.
Jiang Zhi unconsciously sat up straighter.
The reason she wanted to confirm this was just for the icing on the cake. Now that the confirmation was unsuccessful, she wasn’t too disappointed. After all, one shouldn’t dwell too much on the past but cherish the present.
Ji Fanghuai asked in return, “What about you?”
Jiang Zhi only said one sentence: “Appetite for food and sex are natural parts of human nature.”
After her feelings for Ji Fanghuai became clear, she had desire and thoughts. At that time, she was very enthusiastic about exploring the unknown, and feelings were not easy to control, so she could only rely entirely on her five fingers.
Of course, Jiang Zhi would not tell Ji Fanghuai these things.
