After Losing My Memory, I Suddenly Had A Fiancée - Chapter 51
Just before leaving, Ji Fanghuai’s ear was kissed so unexpectedly by Jiang Zhi, that when she and Shen Jing walked out of the hospital room, her face was still flushed.
Leaving the hospital, Ji Fanghuai assumed she and Shen Jing would part ways—Shen Jing heading home, and she looking for a restaurant for a meal. So, she spoke first: “Cousin, Happy New Year.”
Shen Jing smiled: “Happy New Year.”
Shen Jing was undoubtedly a very gentle person. Ji Fanghuai actually wanted to ask her some questions, but that would be too cruel, as the questions she wanted to ask concerned Jiang Zhi.
However, Shen Jing spoke first: “Congratulations on finally becoming a couple.”
Ji Fanghuai scratched her head and said, “I also hope you find someone worth loving soon, Cousin.”
Shen Jing lowered her eyes and said, “No hurry. I’m quite happy being single right now.”
Ji Fanghuai: “…”
That brought the conversation to an abrupt halt.
She thought for a moment and said, “I heard you majored in psychology in college, Cousin. I wanted to ask if there are any books related to memory?”
Ji Fanghuai had only read in books that human memory is actually related to the psychology in the subconscious mind. Some people who are mentally unstable are so because of psychological problems.
Shen Jing looked at her intently: “You want to recover your memory?”
Ji Fanghuai said: “Yes, I do.”
From the moment she knew she had amnesia, she wanted to recover her memory. It was something that inherently belonged to her, and now that it had suddenly disappeared, she felt uncomfortable.
She wanted to know the history between her and Jiang Zhi. She didn’t want a blank period in her life’s memory. Whether that memory was good or bad, it was a part of her life.
“I actually mentioned this to Jiang Zhi before, but she didn’t take it seriously at the time,” Shen Jing quietly added. “I’m not trying to complain; I’m just stating a fact.”
Ji Fanghuai: “…”
Shen Jing said, “I know a psychologist who can try to awaken human memory through hypnosis.”
Ji Fanghuai said uncertainly, “Hypnosis?”
Shen Jing said, “Yes, hypnosis, but it might not be successful. Moreover, memory awakened through hypnosis is usually due to psychological issues, such as amnesia caused by trauma or selective amnesia due to life stress. Yours is amnesia caused by a head injury, which is pathological. Hypnosis may not work. I think you should follow the doctor’s advice and actively cooperate with the medical treatment. Besides, hypnosis has side effects; it might lead to neurasthenia.”
“In many domestic horror films, the female lead sees ghosts because they took some kind of drug, which causes hallucinations. This is also a form of hypnosis. Jiang Zhi’s disagreement was likely for this reason.”
As timid as Ji Fanghuai was, knowing she might see ghosts, she instantly dismissed the idea. However, she thought that Jiang Zhi’s original disagreement was simply because she didn’t want her to recover her memory.
Now that their conflict had been resolved, she really wanted to find her memory, and she believed Jiang Zhi would support her. But it was just a thought; everything would wait until Jiang Zhi was discharged and fully recovered.
Ji Fanghuai looked down at her feet and said, “I will consult the doctor. Also, thank you for the shoes you bought.”
She had left home in a hurry yesterday, wearing her house slippers. Today, when Shen Jing came to visit Jiang Zhi, she specially brought a pair of shoes—a small pair of pointed leather shoes.
Ji Fanghuai liked them very much.
Shen Jing glanced briefly at the shoes on Ji Fanghuai’s feet, nodded, and said, “I’ll head back now. Goodbye.”
“Goodbye.” Ji Fanghuai wanted to find any restaurant to solve her lunch problem, but today was the Lunar New Year’s Day, and almost all the dining establishments on the street were closed.
The usually lively streets were now eerily quiet. She turned around, intending to try another street, but saw that Shen Jing was still standing in the same spot, watching her. Upon being discovered, Shen Jing turned and left without rushing.
Ji Fanghuai let out a soft sigh.
Finally, she entered a noodle shop.
The noodles were firm, and the broth was rich—a perfect remedy for the cold. After Ji Fanghuai finished eating, she felt warm all over. She then went to a nearby large chain supermarket to buy some daily necessities.
When she arrived back at the hospital, she gently pushed open the door to the room. She saw Jiang Zhi staring at the ceiling with open eyes. Then, as if sensing her presence, Jiang Zhi suddenly turned her head towards her.
Ji Fanghuai had been tiptoeing, thinking Jiang Zhi was asleep, which was why she didn’t dare make a sound. She hadn’t expected Jiang Zhi to be awake, waiting for her.
She took off her jacket.
Jiang Zhi pulled her hand and tucked it under the blanket, saying, “Is it cold outside? Your hand is so icy. And you were gone for so long.”
Ji Fanghuai had been carrying bags all the way back, so her hands were naturally cold. She had only been gone for about an hour. She said, “I went to the supermarket.”
Jiang Zhi looked at the things she bought—toothpaste, toothbrush, and other daily necessities, as well as underwear and pajamas. She smiled, “Are you planning to live in the hospital? I’ll be discharged soon, you don’t need to buy so many things.”
Ji Fanghuai was thinking that Jiang Zhi’s belongings were incomplete, and she simply bought what was missing.
She said, “You need to change them eventually anyway.”
She was even worried that Jiang Zhi might have lost weight during this time, so she bought two different sizes of underwear, showing her thoughtful care.
Jiang Zhi’s heart stirred. She took Ji Fanghuai’s hand and guided it to move slowly over her own body, saying, “I’m not wearing a bra.”
Ji Fanghuai: “…”
She quickly pulled her hand away from that soft area, thinking that Jiang Zhi was restless even in the hospital. Then she saw Jiang Zhi looking at her pitifully. She asked, “What’s wrong?”
Jiang Zhi said weakly, “Hungry.”
She was about to starve.
She hadn’t eaten anything since she was slapped in the coffee shop. She didn’t feel it right after the surgery, only a lack of strength, but now she was so hungry her stomach was rumbling.
Ji Fanghuai quickly said, “I’ll go ask the doctor if your gastrointestinal function is back to normal now.”
Jiang Zhi stopped her, saying, “I just asked. I still have to hold on. I can’t eat yet, or all the efforts will be wasted.”
Ji Fanghuai thought about how she had just eaten until she was nearly stuffed, while Jiang Zhi was hungry and couldn’t eat. She said sympathetically, “How much longer do you have to wait?”
Jiang Zhi said listlessly, “Four more hours.”
Ji Fanghuai thought, four hours would pass quickly. She said, “Why don’t you sleep for a while? You can eat when you wake up.”
Jiang Zhi had just tried and failed to fall asleep. She shook her head and said, “Fanghuai, what did you go out and eat?”
“Lanzhou Lamian.” Ji Fanghuai was afraid Jiang Zhi would be even hungrier after hearing it, so she added, “But it wasn’t good. When you’re better, we’ll go out for something delicious.”
Jiang Zhi felt even hungrier. She said, “Let’s just sleep.”
The slight lust she had stirred up by leading Ji Fanghuai’s hand dissipated with the hunger. It’s said that satiety leads to lust, but she felt lust even when hungry. Jiang Zhi closed her eyes, thinking of R-rated scenes, and finally managed to fall asleep.
Ji Fanghuai set an alarm for her and went to ask the doctor again about dietary precautions: only liquid food, no spicy food, and no greasy food.
After asking, Ji Fanghuai guarded the bedside. Jiang Zhi was very peaceful when sleeping, the corners of her mouth slightly turned up, not knowing what good dream she was having. The engagement ring on her middle finger was very noticeable.
Ji Fanghuai looked down at her own bare finger, feeling guilty.
She didn’t know where that ring had been thrown. She hoped it could still be found.
In the evening, Jiang Zhi could finally drink water and eat something simple. Ji Fanghuai carefully fed her water, determined to protect her stomach well.
After eating, Jiang Zhi finally regained a glimmer of life.
After five days in the hospital.
Jiang Zhi began to be picky: “The meal you ordered doesn’t taste good.”
Ji Fanghuai was surprised: “You just said it tasted good.”
She had ordered steamed egg custard, recommended by the doctor. The custard was soft and refreshing; you could almost drink it without chewing, and the flavor was quite savory. It smelled delicious to her, and Jiang Zhi had clearly enjoyed it when eating just now.
“I don’t think it tastes good now, Fanghuai. I want to eat something you made yourself,” Jiang Zhi looked at her eagerly.
Ji Fanghuai said with difficulty, “But I don’t know how to cook.”
Jiang Zhi was unconcerned and said, “I can teach you. And this isn’t exactly cooking; you just need to follow a video. It’s very simple. You can ask me anytime if you don’t understand.”
“Alright.” Ji Fanghuai also needed to go home to check on Xixi and change her clothes. She just wondered what Jiang Zhi was trying to do by intentionally sending her away.
After Ji Fanghuai left, Jiang Zhi contacted the doctor to remove the bandages.
Her entire right palm and wrist were injured. The wound on her palm was the longest and deepest, and the newly formed scab looked like a strange worm attached to it.
Jiang Zhi stared at her palm, lost in thought. She seemed to see crimson blood flowing through the gaps between her fingers and the loud slap Ji Fanghuai had delivered to her face.
When she woke up, her right hand was already bandaged, so she didn’t know how terrifying the wound was. Now that she looked at it, the wound seemed somewhat friendly.
The doctor said, “Try to grip and see if you can move it, and feel if there’s any abnormality. There might be glass shards that haven’t been completely cleaned out.”
Jiang Zhi tried to move it. Everything was fine, but she couldn’t make large movements because some of the wounds were near the joints and could be easily pulled.
She didn’t know how breaking one glass cup could cause so many injuries. After thinking carefully, she remembered she seemed to have grasped the base of the wine glass, which already had broken edges…
Ji Fanghuai arrived home. Xixi was as enthusiastic as ever, rushing into her arms. Ji Fanghuai had also returned home twice in the past few days but hadn’t stayed overnight.
The rest of the time, the assistant was responsible for Xixi’s meals.
Xixi: “Meow~”
Ji Fanghuai stroked the fur on the back of Xixi’s neck. Sometimes she felt that Jiang Zhi and Xixi were very similar, just like the pitiful expression Xixi was making now was exactly the same.
Ji Fanghuai felt relaxed. After settling Xixi, she called Jiang Zhi to ask how she was doing at the hospital. Then the two agreed to sleep at the same time, just like a couple who had just started dating.
Blurry images and familiar voices echoed in her mind. Ji Fanghuai woke up from her dream startled. It seemed to be about her and Jiang Zhi, but when she tried to recall the details, she forgot everything.
The images that were clear just moments ago shattered the instant she woke up.
Ji Fanghuai lay back down, trying to dream more, but she slept soundly without any dreams until morning.
Maybe she was thinking too much about recovering her memory.
If memory could be recovered just by dreaming, she would have recovered it long ago.
Ji Fanghuai cleared her thoughts, got up to make the egg custard. It was indeed easy to make, just as Jiang Zhi had said. She wondered if she was lazy before or if it was because Jiang Zhi spoiled her that she never learned to cook.
Ji Fanghuai felt a great sense of accomplishment after finishing it. She packed it in a thermos container and took it to the hospital. Jiang Zhi loved it, but after making it just once, Jiang Zhi wouldn’t let her make it again.
Ji Fanghuai wasn’t stupid. She said, “You deliberately sent me away yesterday, didn’t you? Are you hiding something from me?”
Jiang Zhi said emotionlessly, “I took a shower yesterday. Do you want to watch?”
As she spoke, she made a move to lift the blanket.
“What’s there to see about a shower? I have everything you have, we’re all the same.” Ji Fanghuai pressed the blanket down, her face turning red to her neck. Then she remembered that Jiang Zhi couldn’t take a shower yet—it had been a week since the surgery—she was clearly just teasing her.
“Are you sure?” Jiang Zhi raised an eyebrow and smiled.
Ji Fanghuai suddenly recalled the scene of them being naked together before, and conceded, “Fine, you’re the boss.”
Jiang Zhi said seriously, “Not exactly. I’m as thin as a rail now, completely flat. Not as ‘big’ as you, Fanghuai.”
Ji Fanghuai: “…”
Jiang Zhi then said, “I want to be discharged from the hospital.”
Ji Fanghuai, who was still dizzy from the conversation about being “big” or not, immediately shook her head when she heard Jiang Zhi wanted to be discharged. She said, “Not yet. The doctor hasn’t let you go, and your hand bandages haven’t been removed.”
Jiang Zhi said meaningfully, “I don’t like it here. Fanghuai, aren’t you looking forward to living together with just the two of us?”
Ji Fanghuai’s face instantly flushed all the way to her neck. She thought they had already lived together for half a year; what was there to look forward to?
