After Losing My Memory, I Suddenly Had A Fiancée - Chapter 50
Ji Fanghuai hadn’t expected Jiang Zhi to be so direct.
They were a family before, and Jiang Zhi must have been on the same household registration as her. After Jiang Zhi became independent, she moved her household registration out. Now, her asking Ji Fanghuai to be on her household registration again couldn’t be clearer in its meaning.
Ji Fanghuai originally wanted to be a little more reserved, but the thought of Jiang Zhi lying on the hospital bed made her wish she could immediately agree to all of Jiang Zhi’s conditions.
“You take care of your stomach first, promise never to drink recklessly again, and I’ll join your household registration.”
Her face felt hot after she said it.
Too unreserved.
Fortunately, Jiang Zhi could only lie on her back now and couldn’t see the movement on her face. Ji Fanghuai turned sideways and carefully held Jiang Zhi’s arm, trying to get closer to her.
Jiang Zhi said happily, “Really?”
Her eyebrows became animated, and the faint handprint on her face was still there. Ji Fanghuai said softly, “Really. Once you get better, we’ll go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to register and get married. I’m your fiancée; we should be married anyway.”
Jiang Zhi was overjoyed, and then she felt Ji Fanghuai’s gaze lingering on her face. A gaze is a strange thing; you can’t see or touch it, but you can feel it.
She couldn’t help but turn her head and say, “I must look terrible right now, don’t look.”
“Does it hurt?” Ji Fanghuai asked with concern.
She reached out and touched Jiang Zhi’s face, feeling that it had thinned a lot, almost like feeling bone beneath her palm. It wasn’t that exaggerated, just that her complexion was poor.
Jiang Zhi turned her head and looked straight into Ji Fanghuai’s eyes without any cover-up, saying, “It hurts, but when I think that Fanghuai has forgiven me, I feel that the pain is worth it.”
“I didn’t realize you had masochistic tendencies,” Ji Fanghuai said with a chuckle.
Jiang Zhi just smiled without speaking. Lying flat and turning her head easily made her neck sore, so she straightened her head and cleared her throat.
“Are you thirsty?” Ji Fanghuai quickly got out of bed. Jiang Zhi had finally woken up, and she had only thought about talking to her. She poured water, then remembered what the doctor had said.
“You can’t drink water yet, you can only wet your lips,” Ji Fanghuai used a cotton swab to wet her lips, applying it carefully around her mouth like applying lipstick, watching Jiang Zhi’s lips gradually become glossy.
Ji Fanghuai suddenly remembered the day they first argued, how Jiang Zhi had used this mouth to give her infinite pleasure, but at the time, although she was comfortable, she felt more resentment.
She loved and hated Jiang Zhi back then, but now she had almost forgotten that complicated emotion.
Ji Fanghuai was startled to realize her thoughts were running wild and quickly pulled back her thoughts, saying preemptively, “You are not allowed to talk anymore, it will make you thirsty.”
The word “thirsty” made people think things. When Ji Fanghuai wanted to change the word, Jiang Zhi clearly had misinterpreted it.
Jiang Zhi’s hands were gradually regaining strength. She grasped Ji Fanghuai’s hand, opened her mouth and lightly sucked on her fingertip, licked it, and then released it, saying with a look of contentment, “Let’s sleep.”
Ji Fanghuai’s heart trembled. She withdrew her hand and said, “I need to go to the bathroom. Do you want to come?”
Jiang Zhi awkwardly said, “No.”
Only when Ji Fanghuai went to the bathroom to wash her hands did she realize how “ugly” she looked. A strange flush of crimson on her face betrayed the wicked thoughts she’d just been having. Her eyelids were swollen, her double eyelids now looked like single eyelids, and there were faint dark circles under her eyes, evidence of her lack of sleep.
Ji Fanghuai raised her hand and forcefully rubbed around her eyes, doing an impromptu eye exercise, but it was no use; her eyes were still unpresentable.
She just wanted to turn off the light and sleep soon.
The thought that Jiang Zhi had just said a bunch of sweet things to this version of herself made her feel like it was greatly discounted. Moreover, Jiang Zhi cared a lot about that slap, and of course, she did too.
Ji Fanghuai returned to the bedside and lowered her head to kiss Jiang Zhi’s cheek. Having recovered her treasure, she was much less reserved than before.
Jiang Zhi’s face tickled, making her feel that this misfortune had brought a blessing. However, she was afraid that if Ji Fanghuai found out she hadn’t attempted suicide, she would think she was trying to gain sympathy by playing the victim.
“Fanghuai.”
“Sleep.”
Ji Fanghuai had only slept for three hours last night and kept having nightmares. After waking up, she went through great emotional ups and downs. Now, smelling Jiang Zhi’s familiar scent, even though Jiang Zhi was lying on the bed and couldn’t move, she felt a strong sense of security. Hooking her little finger with Jiang Zhi’s, she quickly fell asleep.
Although Jiang Zhi had been asleep for a long time, it was an enforced sleep after passing out, and she had been in a haze. Now, feeling completely relaxed, drowsiness hit her. The last time they slept shoulder-to-shoulder like this was over a month ago.
The two slept until eleven o’clock.
When the nurse came in for rounds, she saw that Ji Fanghuai was not sleeping in the perfectly good family escort bed but was sleeping with the patient, and she couldn’t help but remind them, “The patient had surgery yesterday. Sharing a bed now is very dangerous.”
Ji Fanghuai huddled under the blanket, not daring to speak, only feeling her face get hotter and hotter. She and Jiang Zhi hadn’t done anything, just simply slept in the same bed. Fearing she might touch Jiang Zhi’s wound; she hadn’t even dared to move.
The nurse ignored Ji Fanghuai and asked Jiang Zhi, “Do you have any discomfort today?”
Jiang Zhi pursed her lips and said, “I want to eat something.”
The nurse shook her head and said, “You can’t eat anything yet. Your gastrointestinal function hasn’t fully recovered. You can only eat after it recovers. We’ll start the anti-inflammatory drip soon. Pull the call cord when the medicine is almost finished.”
Jiang Zhi looked at the mound beside her and said, “Okay.”
The nurse set up the IV for Jiang Zhi and left the room. Ji Fanghuai quickly climbed out of bed to wash up, then fetched hot water and carefully wiped Jiang Zhi’s face. The slap mark was almost invisible, and Jiang Zhi’s complexion was much more rosy.
They woke up too late. Just as Ji Fanghuai finished tidying up, people started coming to see Jiang Zhi one after another. Xin Ling was the first, and she immediately started lecturing Jiang Zhi, saying, “You can’t even have a peaceful New Year.”
She brought a pile of tonics from who knows where. Jiang Zhi was speechless. Ji Fanghuai remembered that the tonics Xin Ling had sent before were still piled up at home, and she wondered if they had expired.
Jiang Zhi said, “I can’t eat yet.”
Xin Ling gloated, “How pitiful. You’re already a stick figure. If you starve any longer, you’ll be a monkey climbing a bamboo pole.”
Her look was suggestive. The “monkey” naturally referred to Ji Fanghuai.
Ji Fanghuai: “…”
Jiang Zhi had been hospitalized before, but never to the point of surgery. This was her first time going under the knife.
Seeing that the two of them were fine, Xin Ling said, “This matter between you two is finally settled. Jiang Zhi, you won’t try to harm yourself again, will you?”
Jiang Zhi was a bit confused and said, “Huh?”
Xin Ling mouthed the word: “Suicide.”
Ji Fanghuai quickly sat up straight. She was also afraid that Jiang Zhi might be thinking dark thoughts.
She still couldn’t figure out why Jiang Zhi would attempt suicide. Although she always thought that slap was the fuse, she knew Jiang Zhi wasn’t that fragile.
Jiang Zhi lowered her eyes. Lying down, she felt her words lacked conviction, so she immediately tried to sit up. Ji Fanghuai helped her adjust the bed to a comfortable height, then sat back down neatly, like a good student ready to listen to a lecture.
She wanted to eliminate any potential reason for Jiang Zhi to have dark thoughts.
Jiang Zhi knew Ji Fanghuai cared more about this matter than she did. She took a deep breath and explained, “Actually, I wasn’t attempting suicide.”
Ji Fanghuai and Xin Ling were both stunned simultaneously. Xin Ling was the first to speak, asking, “So, you were just playing around when you were rubbing glass shards on your hand? Your hand is still bandaged, Miss Jiang Zhi. Don’t be afraid to face the truth. The truth isn’t shameful; what’s shameful is your attitude of trying to distort the facts.”
Jiang Zhi: “…”
“I really didn’t attempt suicide. It was hemophobia.”
Jiang Zhi stared intently at Ji Fanghuai’s face. Seeing her tense body visibly relax when she heard that she had no suicidal tendencies, Jiang Zhi also secretly sighed in relief. She briefly recounted what happened that day.
“I accidentally grabbed the wrong cup and grabbed a handful of broken glass. My palm was cut, and because I’m hemophobic, I fainted when I saw the blood.” She tried her best to simplify the process. In truth, she was half-drunk and half-awake then and couldn’t remember many details, otherwise, she wouldn’t have fainted from seeing that little bit of blood.
Xin Ling rolled her eyes dramatically and said, “It’s better that it wasn’t suicide. I can handle a scare, but Fanghuai was so scared she cried. You shouldn’t live alone or drink anymore, otherwise, you won’t even have someone to sign the consent form for surgery.”
She didn’t know that Jiang Zhi and Ji Fanghuai had already agreed to get married and deliberately exaggerated the situation, hoping Ji Fanghuai would quickly realize that letting Jiang Zhi live alone was very dangerous.
“Okay.” Jiang Zhi understood everything. Xin Ling should be celebrating the New Year at home right now, but she came to B City for her. They had been old friends for many years, and she knew Xin Ling’s personality inside and out.
She looked at Ji Fanghuai.
Ji Fanghuai denied it, saying, “I didn’t cry.”
Jiang Zhi agreed without hesitation, “You’re right, you didn’t cry.”
Xin Ling: “…”
She felt superfluous.
Afterward, Shen Jing and Jin Lin arrived sequentially. Because Jiang Zhi and Ji Fanghuai’s eyes were full of love, and it was rumored that Jiang Zhi had attempted suicide for reasons unknown, both of them were very reserved and only exchanged simple greetings.
Shen Jing said, “Grandma knows you’re hospitalized and has wanted to come and see you, but we persuaded her not to. We didn’t tell her the specific reason. You just focus on recovery. It looks like you’ll have to spend the Spring Festival lying in the hospital, but come home for the Lantern Festival.”
“Please tell Grandma for me that I’m fine,” Jiang Zhi explained again. “And it was a recurrence of my chronic stomach illness, not a suicide attempt.”
Xin Ling said, “You’re so young, yet you’re in the hospital every few days. Look at me and Jin Lin, we’re still fine. We’ve been good friends for so many years, and I never expected you to age the fastest.”
Among the three of them, Jin Lin was the most glamorous as she was in the entertainment industry. She was the most relaxed, spending her time traveling and on beauty treatments. Only Jiang Zhi was the most exhausted, managing the company, deceiving Ji Fanghuai, and having to pay the price for the deception. Sure enough, dating was a waste of time and energy.
Jiang Zhi ignored her and said to Ji Fanghuai, “Don’t just stay here with me; go eat.”
Ji Fanghuai was indeed hungry. She suddenly thought of Xixi and wondered if the little guy was going crazy.
Xin Ling yawned and said, “I can’t. I’m too sleepy. If you don’t mind, I’ll go check on Xixi for you and then sleep on your sofa.”
The guest room at home had been tidied when Lin Mianmian stayed there, but she didn’t know if it was habitable now, and the master bedroom was private territory. Ji Fanghuai said, “Thank you, Sister Xin.”
Xin Ling raised an eyebrow and said, “Don’t blame me for what I said yesterday.”
Ji Fanghuai knew she was referring to what she said outside the operating room yesterday. She said, “I won’t.”
Xin Ling took Jin Lin with her when she left.
Shen Jing took photos and videos of Jiang Zhi, saying her grandmother requested them, and then said to Ji Fanghuai, “Fanghuai, I’m heading back now. Let’s leave together. If you eat here, Jiang Zhi will be craving food.”
That would leave Jiang Zhi alone in the room, and Ji Fanghuai was a bit worried, but she saw Jiang Zhi beckon to her.
Ji Fanghuai leaned in and bent down. Jiang Zhi’s warm breath brushed against her sensitive earlobe: “Go on, I’ll wait for you.”
Ji Fanghuai bit her lip, her eyes brimming with emotion, and her body unconsciously trembled slightly with Jiang Zhi’s rhythm.
Now, only Jiang Zhi’s tongue could move.
