After Losing My Memory, I Suddenly Had A Fiancée - Chapter 47
The porridge was soft, smooth, and refreshing. Jiang Zhi lowered her head, sipping the porridge little by little, occasionally looking up at Ji Fanghuai. Ji Fanghuai couldn’t find anything to stare at, so she could only focus on Jiang Zhi, the patient.
Their eyes met inadvertently, and then quickly separated.
“The taste is a bit bland,” Jiang Zhi said, just to make conversation.
Ji Fanghuai replied in a matter-of-fact tone, “When you’re sick, you can’t eat spicy food, and porridge is naturally light-tasting.”
“Mhm.” Although Ji Fanghuai hadn’t made it, Jiang Zhi only stopped eating when she truly couldn’t consume any more. After replenishing her energy, her body was no longer weak, but she remained lying down.
Seeing how sickly she looked, Ji Fanghuai took her temperature again. Noticing the reading was still 37.7, she asked, “Not better yet?”
Jiang Zhi propped two pillows behind her and smiled, saying, “How could it be so fast? That porridge isn’t some kind of magical elixir, and I still don’t have the strength.”
Ji Fanghuai also felt a bit silly and said, “Then you should keep resting.”
Jiang Zhi paused, then said, “I need to go to the bathroom.”
Ji Fanghuai looked up, slightly confused. After realizing what she meant, she reluctantly said, “I’ll help you up.”
“Thank you,” Jiang Zhi said. She went to the bathroom supported by Ji Fanghuai. Actually, Jiang Zhi only had a cold and wasn’t so weak that she couldn’t walk, but she didn’t want to miss such a good opportunity to be taken care of. When they returned, they sat quietly, and an awkward silence settled between them.
After a while, Ji Fanghuai asked, “Can you take care of yourself now? I have to go home. Xixi might chew on the sofa if she can’t find me, and I’m also not sure if I closed the windows and doors properly. I’m afraid she’ll run away.”
Jiang Zhi thought, Xixi is even more important than me, but she considerately said, “I should be fine. Go ahead.”
Ji Fanghuai mainly didn’t want to stay with Jiang Zhi, especially now that Jiang Zhi was conscious. She felt awkward, like meeting an ex-partner again.
She said, “If you’re still not feeling well, remember to go to the hospital, or go back to A City. There’s someone there to look after you. There’s nothing here worth your lingering.”
Jiang Zhi lowered her head and didn’t make a sound.
Ji Fanghuai had said everything she felt she needed to say. She stood up, put on her coat, and shuddered as she opened the door. It was too cold, and she wondered if she could even get a taxi. Just as she was about to close the door, she heard Jiang Zhi’s suppressed cough.
Jiang Zhi pulled out a tissue, covering her mouth and nose as she coughed. Hearing the door close, she slumped onto the bed, feeling dejected. However, she then saw Ji Fanghuai had returned.
She asked, “Why didn’t you leave?”
Ji Fanghuai knew that even though Jiang Zhi didn’t say it, she definitely wanted her to stay. During the time she was hospitalized, Jiang Zhi never left her alone at the hospital.
She said awkwardly, “I’ll stay with you a little longer.”
“What about Xixi, then?” Jiang Zhi’s nose was red.
Isn’t she worried the cat will run away?
Ji Fanghuai said, “It’s cold, so she’ll probably be sleeping in. She shouldn’t wander off anytime soon.”
Jiang Zhi beamed, knowing that Ji Fanghuai still cared about her. She said, “Fanghuai, I…”
“I’m going to pour a cup of water. Drinking more hot water is good for your health,” Ji Fanghuai interrupted her, not wanting her to continue.
Jiang Zhi was speechless, shrinking into the covers, looking small and helpless.
Ji Fanghuai watched her take her medicine, measured her temperature again, and then looked down at her phone. There wasn’t much to see on her phone, but she didn’t know what to say to Jiang Zhi. She was tired of hearing everything Jiang Zhi had to say.
She didn’t know if what Jiang Zhi did was right or wrong, but from her perspective, Jiang Zhi was definitely in the wrong.
It was only because she was deceived into believing Jiang Zhi was her fiancée that she guiltily accepted her closeness and developed feelings so quickly.
Feelings built upon deception, no matter how precious, were fake.
Jiang Zhi had originally planned to proceed slowly, but she hadn’t expected to catch a cold and fever just from standing outside for an extra two hours at night. When she was a child, she could be punished to stand outside in the freezing cold for three hours and still return home lively.
She needed to step up her exercise when she got back.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Ji Fanghuai thought it was the hotel staff. She put her phone in her pocket, got up, and opened the door.
She saw Xin Ling wearing a beige down jacket, a thick scarf covering her mouth, and raindrops on her hat brim—likely melted snow.
Xin Ling brought a blast of cold air with her. She gave Ji Fanghuai a big hug and said, “I’m freezing, sis.”
Ji Fanghuai struggled out of her embrace, looking helpless, and said, “How did you get in?”
She had to explain her relationship with Jiang Zhi to the staff for a long time before they let her in.
Xin Ling took off her coat and said, “That’s easy. I told the front desk I wanted to rent a room, and I just casually rented a king-sized room and came up. Money talks. Who would care what a paying customer does?”
Ji Fanghuai was speechless.
She couldn’t argue with that.
Xin Ling turned and scoffed at Jiang Zhi on the bed. She picked up the thermometer and scanned her with it like a toy gun, then said, “Feeling better? You came here without a word, and you’re sick without a word. If Fanghuai hadn’t asked me, I wouldn’t have known you were ill. Jiang Zhi, it’s time for you to find a girlfriend. You live alone, and you could disappear without anyone knowing. You trouble us all the time.”
As she spoke, she winked at Jiang Zhi, who quickly signaled with her eyes for Xin Ling to stop talking nonsense.
Ji Fanghuai listened; her brows tightly furrowed.
Xin Ling acted like she didn’t notice and continued, “After you get better, you should start going on blind dates. I have many high-quality options here—beautiful, in good shape. I guarantee you’ll like them and be satisfied. Fanghuai, what kind of sister-in-law do you want?”
Ji Fanghuai felt annoyed and said flatly, “Since you’re here to look after her, I’ll be leaving.”
Xin Ling was unhappy. “Why are you leaving the moment I arrive? I’m not the plague.”
“I have things to do,” Ji Fanghuai said, forcing a smile.
Does Jiang Zhi really need to go on blind dates?
She has a car, a house, her parents are deceased, and she has looks and money. She’s the most sought-after type on the dating market.
It’s likely people would line up to be my sister-in-law.
No.
Is Jiang Zhi my older sister? I never admitted that.
Ji Fanghuai left the hotel with a blank expression. The door closed with a “bang,” heavy enough to make Jiang Zhi’s body involuntarily twitch.
“What nonsense were you talking about?” Jiang Zhi glared at Xin Ling and quickly scrambled to put on her clothes, opening the window to look outside.
Outside, it was blindingly white. The cold wind blew, making her face feel like it was pressed against cold glass. However, from this angle, she couldn’t see the hotel lobby entrance, only some of the hotel’s ornamental trees. The branches were covered in snow, which rustled down when the wind blew.
Xin Ling said earnestly, “You two are in an awkward situation now. It’s better to let her go home and rest first. Didn’t you see she wasn’t looking well? She probably hasn’t slept well for the past two days.”
Jiang Zhi mused, “Am I being very childish?”
Chasing after her, creating coincidences, engineering encounters.
In reality, she was harming herself and others, and Ji Fanghuai might even find her annoying. But she couldn’t wait any longer; she had to take the initiative.
Xin Ling nodded and said, “Yes, you’re being boring. If it were me, I’d boldly rush forward and go straight for it. You two like each other anyway; it’s just a matter of time.”
Ji Fanghuai returned home full of resentment. Xixi, as expected, was jumping up and down, meowing incessantly, her voice sounding somewhat mournful when she looked at Ji Fanghuai.
Am I raising an overlord?
Ji Fanghuai refilled Xixi’s food, cleaned the litter box, and then collapsed into bed to catch up on sleep. The more she slept, the more she thought Jiang Zhi had a problem.
She wasn’t that exceptional. She had already forgotten the feelings she had for all her previous ‘sisters and girlfriends,’ and she had rejected her before, and would do so again. Why was she fixated on this one crooked tree?
However, maybe she would meet someone she liked during a blind date. All those ‘marry first, love later’ dramas went like that.
Blind date…
Ji Fanghuai was mentally overwhelmed, repeatedly telling herself that Jiang Zhi’s blind date was none of her business, before finally falling asleep.
Ji Fanghuai took two full days of rest before going to the shop. It was only three days until the New Year, and she planned to open the shop for one more day before taking a holiday. The other two days would be spent preparing for the New Year.
In this cold weather, everyone wanted to stay home. Who would specially come out for coffee? Unless it was for a special date.
Ji Fanghuai bundled herself up tightly and affectionately ruffled Xixi’s fur.
“Two cappuccinos.” Jiang Zhi’s voice arrived as expected, but this time it was in the afternoon, not the evening, and she wasn’t alone—she was with two people.
Ji Fanghuai was slow to react and didn’t clearly see what the woman who came with her looked like. She said, “Please wait a moment.”
While retrieving the coffee beans, Ji Fanghuai couldn’t help but look back. Jiang Zhi and the person were sitting face-to-face. From her angle, she could only see the woman’s back, but even the back view suggested she was graceful and elegant.
The only employee had already gone home for the holiday, so she was the only one in the shop. Ji Fanghuai brewed the coffee and personally carried it over.
Only then did she get a clear view of the woman: beautiful and striking, looking about the same age as Jiang Zhi, gentle, intellectual, and well-spoken. She and Jiang Zhi were chatting and laughing, talking about historical and contemporary topics.
Is this really a blind date?
Ji Fanghuai muttered internally. This blind date partner is incredibly good-looking, but Jiang Zhi was no less attractive.
“Thank you,” Jiang Zhi looked up and deliberately smiled at her.
Ji Fanghuai nodded and carried the tray back to the work area.
She had never seen any other woman around Jiang Zhi, and coupled with what Xin Ling said two days ago about introducing her to a blind date, she naturally assumed this was the date.
She had thought Xin Ling was just talking nonsense, and that Jiang Zhi would never actually go on a blind date. However, Jiang Zhi not only went on one but even deliberately chose her shop.
Ji Fanghuai was very frustrated. She forcefully kicked the electric oven under her feet. Why did Jiang Zhi have to come here? Anywhere else but her shop to be an eyesore.
Then she thought, What does this have to do with me?
They have already broken up.
And she was the one who initiated the breakup.
