After Losing My Memory, I Suddenly Had A Fiancée - Chapter 32
A fine drizzle floated in the sky, and the rainwater adhered to the car window, slowly gathering into drops, then whizz—leaving streaks of water on the glass.
Pedestrians on the roadside hurried past, some even glancing at the car window, perhaps checking their reflection or looking at them.
Ji Fanghuai’s mind was blank. She only cleared her head right at the moment she was about to suffocate, as Jiang Zhi’s soft tongue gently caressed her lips but didn’t venture deeper.
After a moment, Jiang Zhi released Ji Fanghuai, looking at her full, moist lips while slightly gasping for air.
Ji Fanghuai’s eyes were clouded with a thin mist. As if only just realizing what happened, her chest rose and fell sharply. She looked at Jiang Zhi, full of confusion, not understanding why she had suddenly kissed her.
Jiang Zhi’s forehead was pressed against Ji Fanghuai’s, their lips less than a centimeter apart. She said, “She likes you.”
Ji Fanghuai was stunned. “Who? Cousin?”
Jiang Zhi nodded, displeased.
“Are you… Are you kidding me?” Ji Fanghuai stammered.
She had always thought Shen Jing’s coldness toward her was because she considered her a love rival. Now, Jiang Zhi was saying that Shen Jing liked her.
Ji Fanghuai thought about it and still found it hard to believe. Seeing her confusion, Jiang Zhi asked, “Can’t you tell?”
Ji Fanghuai admitted, “No, I can’t.”
Shen Jing had always been cold and distant toward her, acting as if they were enemies, and Jiang Zhi treated Shen Jing very politely, completely unlike how one would treat a love rival. She could not connect the dots that these two cousins were rivals who both liked her.
This made Ji Fanghuai, the person involved, feel a little overwhelmed.
“The way she looks at you is different,” Jiang Zhi listed. “And there are some things that could clearly be discussed over the phone, yet she personally comes over. The reason she’s cold to you is because you are my fiancée.”
Ji Fanghuai thought back. It seemed to be true. She said uncertainly, “Was she?”
“Yes, but it doesn’t matter if you couldn’t tell. Just knowing this is enough,” Jiang Zhi said, looking helpless.
Ji Fanghuai secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Even though someone else liked her, she felt a sense of nervousness when questioned by Jiang Zhi, as if she had cheated on Jiang Zhi behind her back.
A car horn sounded behind them. Someone was backing up. The assistant in the front asked, “CEO Jiang, shall we drive?”
Only then did Ji Fanghuai remember they were in the car. She had actually kissed Jiang Zhi in the car, and someone was sitting in the front seat.
Ji Fanghuai lowered her head, pretending to check her seatbelt, completely avoiding eye contact with the assistant in the rear-view mirror.
Jiang Zhi, however, said casually, “Drive.”
The car slowly started, left the parking space, and headed onto the main road.
Ji Fanghuai suddenly felt a tightening around her waist as Jiang Zhi pulled her into her embrace.
Pulling her into her arms while riding in the car seemed to have become an unspoken understanding between them. Ji Fanghuai usually closed her eyes to rest, but today she wasn’t in the mood.
She said, “Am I very slow-witted?”
Someone liked her, and she completely failed to notice.
Jiang Zhi’s eyes gathered a faint trace of melancholy, seemingly thinking of something. She said softly, “You are a little slow-witted.”
Ji Fanghuai keenly sensed that Jiang Zhi seemed a little angry, though she didn’t know the exact reason. Perhaps it was because she had been so slow-witted in the past that Jiang Zhi hadn’t been able to win her over sooner.
Otherwise, she should have been easy to catch.
Ji Fanghuai said, “I can only discern the emotions of people I care about. You wouldn’t be so petty, would you?”
Jiang Zhi pursed her lips and didn’t speak, just looking at her with blazing intensity.
Ji Fanghuai felt that all she needed to do now was yell in Jiang Zhi’s ear: She cares about her. If Jiang Zhi still didn’t appreciate it, then she wouldn’t bother trying to placate her anymore.
Anyway, Shen Jing was Jiang Zhi’s cousin, not hers. The grudges and conflicts between the two cousins had nothing to do with Ji Fanghuai.
Jiang Zhi couldn’t help but smile. “I’m not that petty.”
Ji Fanghuai secretly rolled her eyes, but she was still preoccupied with the matter. She murmured, “How could your cousin like me?”
Logically speaking, Shen Jing was Jiang Zhi’s cousin.
Then she and Jiang Zhi should have met first, and then she would have met Shen Jing through Jiang Zhi. This meant Shen Jing had long known they were a couple.
Given Shen Jing’s character, she shouldn’t like her when she clearly knew she and Jiang Zhi were a pair.
She wasn’t money, after all, for everyone to like.
Unless Shen Jing had met her first.
Jiang Zhi was in a better mood now and said playfully, “Maybe she saw you are beautiful and desires your looks.”
“I’m serious,” Ji Fanghuai shared her thought. “Did your cousin know me from before?”
Jiang Zhi slightly lowered her eyes, pulled out her phone, and said, “The world is small. It’s normal for her to know you.”
Ji Fanghuai was confused and wanted to say more, but noticed Jiang Zhi seemed to be chatting with someone. She could only close her eyes and rest, thinking she would ask again when they got home.
Jiang Zhi tapped open the WeChat interface.
Shen Jing: “I happened to pass by your coffee shop today. I originally wanted to tell her, but in the end, I thought it better to tell you.”
Jiang Zhi’s brows furrowed slightly. She quickly replied: “Cousin, what is it?”
Shen Jing: “It’s about a book of hers that was with me. I’ve already mailed it to your company. Please pass it on to her. Also, I know a leading expert on memory. He said appropriate hypnosis can help restore memory. You can consult them if needed.”
Jiang Zhi replied: “Thank you, Cousin.”
Shen Jing sent another message: “I still have a question I want to ask you.”
Jiang Zhi paused, then replied: “Go ahead.”
Shen Jing: “I still really want to know, how did she suddenly become gay?”
Jiang Zhi looked at the back of Ji Fanghuai’s head, her eyes obscured, and replied: “Because she suddenly became enlightened.”
Then she put away her phone, and the chat ended.
Jiang Zhi watched the quickly moving scenery outside the car window, feeling a bit irritable. She stroked Ji Fanghuai’s black hair and softly asked, “Fanghuai, want to go to the supermarket?”
“Are we not home yet?” Ji Fanghuai opened her eyes and sat up. Looking out the window, the car had slowed down and was near a large general supermarket.
Inside the supermarket.
Jiang Zhi was pushing the shopping cart, and Ji Fanghuai was selecting daily necessities along the way. She hadn’t expected to run into Wu Lili and a strange woman, who must have been her friend.
Wu Lili exclaimed excitedly, “Ji Fanghuai, what a coincidence! I was just planning to look for you today, thinking of going to your shop later, but I didn’t expect to meet you here.”
Ji Fanghuai asked, confused, “Is there something going on?”
Wu Lili was a little embarrassed. She said, “It’s nothing big, actually. It’s just a class reunion for our Finance Class 1. I wanted to ask if you would attend?”
“Class reunion?” Ji Fanghuai had no memory of those college classmates and was a bit hesitant.
Wu Lili introduced, “Yes, the class heartthrob organized it. It’s right here in A City.”
Being in the same city made Ji Fanghuai a bit interested, but she truly didn’t know who the class heartthrob was.
Wu Lili looked regretful as she said, “He used to have a crush on you. Did you forget?”
Someone else liked her? Ji Fanghuai reflexively looked at Jiang Zhi beside her. Sure enough, Jiang Zhi’s face had darkened slightly, suggesting she mostly didn’t want her to attend.
But she didn’t know why, she said, “Sure.”
Wu Lili happily took out her phone and displayed a QR code. She said, “Join the group first. Everyone will be delighted you’re coming. The location and time will be sent in this group. There won’t be many people, just classmates who are working in A City. We only have about six or seven classmates working in A City.”
Ji Fanghuai scanned the code and joined the group. When they reached the first-floor food and fresh produce section of the supermarket, Jiang Zhi still hadn’t said a word.
Ji Fanghuai hooked her finger with Jiang Zhi’s and said, “I just want to try to recover some memories. Maybe I’ll recall something. College’s four years are very important, after all.”
She still really wanted to restore her memory.
Jiang Zhi nodded sullenly, “Mhm.”
On the day of the class reunion, it was held directly in a private room at a restaurant.
Ji Fanghuai had previously lurked in the group chat. There were seven people in the group in total. On the day she first joined, quite a few people popped up, exchanged greetings, and then the group gradually quieted down.
Today, the group was lively again, with people sending messages like “Arrived,” and “Waiting for you.”
“Look who’s here.” Someone cried out, and everyone at the table simultaneously turned to look at them. Ji Fanghuai didn’t actually recognize anyone. When they left home, Jiang Zhi told her not to be nervous, just to interact lightly, since others would be trying to curry favor with her.
At the time, she asked while doing her makeup, “Has it become that realistic?”
She felt like she was losing touch with society.
Jiang Zhi replied, “A college class reunion is never just a simple gathering. Work and networking are the focus, just like a cocktail party. There’s no need to take it too seriously.”
Recalling Jiang Zhi’s instructions, Ji Fanghuai gave a friendly smile to everyone at the table.
Wu Lili said, “We’ve been waiting for you.”
“Fanghuai.” A handsome man with stubble walked over and said with familiarity, “Long time no see.”
Ji Fanghuai didn’t recognize him, but guessed he must be the class heartthrob, Liu Lei. She merely nodded slightly. The man then asked Jiang Zhi, “And this is…”
“She’s my fiancée,” Ji Fanghuai said first.
She felt it was her main event and she should be the one to introduce Jiang Zhi. Most importantly, the way others looked at Jiang Zhi was too intense, which made Ji Fanghuai very uncomfortable.
Liu Lei was a bit awkward. Wu Lili exclaimed in surprise, “I can’t believe you’re already engaged.”
Ji Fanghuai just smiled and occasionally nodded, maintaining her composure throughout. She was waiting for memories to surface, but none did. However, she couldn’t refuse when it came to drinking.
The event was outwardly a class reunion but was actually a bragging competition. One person talked about how hard their job was and how they worked overtime every day, and another said their bag was custom-made by an Italian designer.
Then they talked about their partners, and finally, they drank while boasting.
Ji Fanghuai drank little, but her tolerance was poor. When she lay in bed at home, she was tipsy, her vision blurry. She just felt that Jiang Zhi’s clean, white teeth were dazzling, and her lips were exceptionally beautiful.
Ji Fanghuai didn’t know where she got the courage, but she suddenly grabbed Jiang Zhi’s face and kissed her with a loud smack. But once her mouth touched, she couldn’t pull back. Her lips felt like they were glued together.
They both tumbled onto the bed.
The next day.
Ji Fanghuai had a splitting headache. She thought to herself that she really couldn’t drink alcohol. She tried to sit up, but found Jiang Zhi nestled like a small bird in her arms, and she wasn’t wearing any clothes.
Ji Fanghuai: “!!!”
Did she do Jiang Zhi last night?
