After Losing My Memory, I Suddenly Had A Fiancée - Chapter 3
Ji Fanghuai slept and woke, woke and slept. After two such days, she finally started to recover. So what if she didn’t have parents? Ji Fanghuai thought this way and felt much better.
She thought that she was, after all, still longing for family affection.
Otherwise, her reaction wouldn’t have been so strong the moment she heard her parents were gone.
But now, she truly felt like a lone boat in the boundless ocean. She had previously hoped to learn about her situation from family and friends.
She had hoped her parents would take care of her, as she had forgotten Jiang Zhi and couldn’t keep troubling her. Now, however, she could only rely entirely on Jiang Zhi.
“How are you feeling today? Does your head still hurt a lot?” Jiang Zhi’s voice was as gentle as ever.
Ji Fanghuai felt even more guilty and forced a smile: “It doesn’t hurt today.”
“That’s good. The doctor also said your condition is better, and the surgery was very successful. Once the incision stabilizes, you can get out of bed more, walk around, and exercise your muscles.” Jiang Zhi adjusted the bed to the most comfortable height.
“Really?” Ji Fanghuai was overjoyed. Since waking up, she had been lying in bed every day, being personally looked after by Jiang Zhi, practically like a disabled person.
Jiang Zhi smiled and said: “Really. I never lie to you. You couldn’t eat anything the past few days. Want to try now?”
Ji Fanghuai felt slightly nauseated at the thought of greasy food and looked pale, not wanting to try.
Jiang Zhi had never eaten in front of her. She always went to the restaurant outside while Ji Fanghuai was asleep, probably afraid the smell would make Ji Fanghuai uncomfortable.
“It won’t be greasy. It’s clear stewed pigeon soup, prepared by a professional nutritionist and slow-cooked over a small fire.”
The moment Jiang Zhi opened the food container, Ji Fanghuai smelled the aroma—a mix of medicinal herbs, meat, and even fruit.
Ji Fanghuai’s stomach rumbled.
Jiang Zhi deliberately asked: “Do you want some?”
Ji Fanghuai said self-consciously: “Yes.”
Jiang Zhi took a bowl and poured the soup. The liquid was clear and looked unremarkable, but the aroma had already whetted her appetite.
Ji Fanghuai’s right hand was injured, so she didn’t try to be strong and let Jiang Zhi feed her. The soup was sweet and fragrant upon entry, not greasy, and had a meaty flavor.
“How did they do this?”
Ji Fanghuai’s mood instantly lifted. For the past few days, she couldn’t eat, feeling sick and nauseous at the smell of food, surviving only on IV drips and porridge.
What was the point of living if one couldn’t eat?
“I’m not sure either. It was made by a nutritionist friend of mine. She likes to study cooking; she has a Ph.D. in nutrition. I will ask her to regulate your body later.”
“Mmm, thank you.” Ji Fanghuai drank a small bowl and felt a warmth spread through her stomach.
“Now, eat some banana. You’re not suited for vigorous activity right now, only soup and soft fruits. Otherwise, it could affect your head and cause dizziness.”
Ji Fanghuai felt she was too fragile. This injury seemed to have turned her into Lin Daiyu.
She opened her mouth to accept the piece of banana Jiang Zhi fed her, eager to understand herself better, and asked: “Was I healthy before?”
“You used to be lively and jumpy, always fond of playing tricks to scare people, and then ended up scaring yourself.” Jiang Zhi fell into a memory, then added, “Of course, you’ll be lively and jumpy again in the future.”
Ji Fanghuai knew Jiang Zhi was just comforting her. Given her current condition, even after recovery, she would definitely have some after-effects.
“How could I be that timid?” Ji Fanghuai said.
She didn’t believe she could be that timid. Then she thought that if she was still scaring people at her age, the person being scared was probably Jiang Zhi, the person closest to her.
And Jiang Zhi, her fiancée, knew this best.
Ji Fanghuai instinctively avoided all questions about her fiancée, saying: “I want to get up and walk around.”
It sounded shameful, but she would rather anyone else be taking care of her than her fiancée.
Jiang Zhi supported her as she walked a few laps around the room. Ji Fanghuai still felt dizzy sometimes, but it was much better than before.
She looked out the glass window. In the rehabilitation center below the hospital building, people were jogging, and some were playing chess.
Both were in the hospital, but the ward felt like a morgue, while the outside looked like a secluded paradise.
Ji Fanghuai clung to the window glass, yearning for life outside.
Ji Fanghuai rested in the hospital for another half a month. Finally, she could get out of bed without Jiang Zhi’s support and go to the restroom independently.
During this time, Jiang Zhi had been by her side constantly, working in the living room without any outsiders to disturb them.
Ji Fanghuai was eager to be discharged, but she was also conflicted.
After discharge, there was a high possibility she would live with Jiang Zhi, and she had no idea how to interact with her right now.
Today, Jiang Zhi seemed a bit troubled. Ji Fanghuai knew she was busy with work. If it weren’t for taking care of her, she would probably be at the company all day.
She had never asked about Jiang Zhi’s company.
To be precise, she and Jiang Zhi rarely talked to each other.
“Fanghuai, I have something at the company. I need to go to an emergency meeting.” Jiang Zhi clearly put Ji Fanghuai first, otherwise she wouldn’t have been so hesitant.
“Mmm, go ahead. I can take care of myself.” Ji Fanghuai felt Jiang Zhi was too focused on her.
Actually, she wasn’t that frail. When Jiang Zhi was away, she could have a caregiver watch her, and if anything happened, she could call a doctor or nurse herself using the call button.
Jiang Zhi pondered, then shook her head: “No.”
“I’m fine now, and company matters are important,” Ji Fanghuai said, attempting a rare joke, “Otherwise, where would the money for medical bills come from?”
Jiang Zhi chuckled: “You don’t need to worry about that. I have money and can afford to take care of you.”
Jiang Zhi looked beautiful when she smiled. Her stern features seemed to melt like ice, and her whole demeanor softened.
Ji Fanghuai fell silent. She was like a parasite, needing Jiang Zhi’s care in every aspect. Thankfully, she could comfort herself that they were fiancées, making it easier to accept.
Jiang Zhi finally decided: “I’ll have someone come and look after you. If anything happens, call me directly.”
Ji Fanghuai nodded: “Okay.”
Jiang Zhi made a call. Less than half an hour later, a young woman arrived at the ward, called out to “Boss Jiang,” and stood by the bed to watch over Ji Fanghuai.
Jiang Zhi said softly: “She’s my assistant. You can ask her for anything you want. I should be back in about three hours. Remember to contact me if anything happens.”
“Okay,” Ji Fanghuai replied obediently as usual.
She had become taciturn since waking up from surgery with amnesia. Jiang Zhi lowered her eyes, gave her a light hug, and then left.
The assistant and Ji Fanghuai were left staring at each other.
“Miss Ji, I am Jiang’s personal assistant, Mi Li. Please feel free to tell me if you need anything,” the assistant introduced herself professionally, treating Ji Fanghuai like a client.
“Hello, Miss Mi.”
Ji Fanghuai found her easy to talk to and she seemed young, like a recent college graduate. Many questions she felt awkward asking Jiang Zhi could be asked directly now.
She asked: “What kind of company does your boss run?”
The assistant answered every question: “A gaming company. Boss Jiang and Boss Xin are the founders of Fangyuan Gaming Company. Our company mainly focuses on developing and operating Yuri games. We currently have six games under operation.”
In this era, same-sex love was completely normal. There was no difference between female-female, male-male, and male-female relationships. The perception that love transcends gender was innate in people.
Games related to same-sex relationships were also widely promoted.
Ji Fanghuai asked confusedly: “Who is Boss Xin?”
“Xin Ling, the company’s Vice President. She usually…” The assistant didn’t want to speak ill of her superior, but remembering Jiang Zhi’s instruction to fully comply with Ji Fanghuai, she continued, “She usually enjoys extreme sports and traveling everywhere, and she doesn’t manage the company much. So, Boss Jiang is responsible for all the company projects.”
Ji Fanghuai understood.
Xin Ling was idle, and Jiang Zhi managed the company.
The assistant was easygoing and obedient. Ji Fanghuai pressed further: “Then what happened at your company?”
“It seems to be an issue with the new game’s advertising. The operations manager changed the deployment plan without consulting Boss Jiang, which caused significant losses. I don’t know the specifics,” the assistant emphasized, “I am just Boss Jiang’s personal assistant.”
She didn’t know the rest.
Ji Fanghuai felt she was putting the assistant on the spot, so she changed the question.
The main reason was that apart from doctors, nurses, and Jiang Zhi, the assistant was the first outsider she had seen in the hospital. She wanted to verify a few things.
“Then do you know who I am?”
The assistant had done her homework and said: “You are Jiang’s fiancée, Ji Fanghuai.”
Ji Fanghuai didn’t know why she bothered to ask. The fact that she was Jiang Zhi’s fiancée was already established, yet she subconsciously sought external confirmation.
Now she had no more questions to ask and could only lie in bed, staring blankly at the assistant.
In comparison, interacting with Jiang Zhi felt more relaxed. The assistant treated her like a boss, while Jiang Zhi treated her like a lover and didn’t put any pressure on her.
Now, the moment she moved slightly, the assistant moved too, as if Ji Fanghuai were a glass exhibit being viewed, ready to break with any movement.
Ji Fanghuai simply stopped moving. Although she knew the assistant was being professional, being constantly watched was too uncomfortable.
After lying bored for half an hour, Ji Fanghuai said: “I want to go downstairs for a walk.”
The assistant subconsciously nodded, then suddenly stopped, took out her phone, and said: “I need to ask Boss Jiang for permission for this.”
“Fine,” Ji Fanghuai replied, continuing to lie down.
She felt awkward asking Jiang Zhi to take her for a walk, but she felt fine asking the assistant. This was probably a case of picking on the soft target.
The assistant took out her phone, quickly drafted a message, and soon received a reply from Jiang Zhi: “Yes, be careful.”
Ji Fanghuai didn’t expect approval so quickly. She sat up to get out of bed, and the assistant rushed to support her.
Maybe it was psychological, but Ji Fanghuai felt Jiang Zhi’s technique was gentler. The assistant was also very careful, but somewhat stiff.
“We can just walk around the park downstairs,” Ji Fanghuai said, being mindful not to take risks with her health.
“Okay,” the assistant said, going to push a wheelchair. Ji Fanghuai was shocked: “I’ll walk myself. My legs aren’t broken.”
“You shouldn’t make large movements with your head. Boss Jiang requested this,” the assistant stated matter-of-factly.
“I can walk down myself,” Ji Fanghuai said, feeling speechless. “I’ve been hospitalized for almost a month. Going out for a walk is to exercise my muscles. How can I exercise in a wheelchair?”
“Then I’ll ask Boss Jiang,” the assistant said, taking out her phone, ready to consult Jiang Zhi again.
Ji Fanghuai stopped her: “Don’t ask. She might be in a meeting. You’ll be interrupting her work.”
The assistant couldn’t win against Ji Fanghuai, so she put away her phone and came to help her. The two took the dedicated elevator downstairs.
Ji Fanghuai wore a brown sleep cap. Her hair had grown about a centimeter, but the wound was still visible. Wearing the hat helped prevent infection and hid the unsightly appearance.
There was a rehabilitation park below the hospital building for patients. Ji Fanghuai deeply inhaled the fresh air, feeling like she had come back to life. Unfortunately, the sun was a bit strong.
Although most people here were patients, the place was filled with hope for life.
There were elderly people doing rehabilitation, pregnant women strolling, and young children with gauze wrapped around their heads but looking innocent and smiling.
All of this was better than being bedridden and unable to care for oneself.
Ji Fanghuai never thought she would yearn to be able to run, jump, and play. Now that her head was injured, the doctor advised her not to even perform actions like bending over to tie her shoelaces.
Only by losing health did she understand how precious it was.
However, all of this was due to a falling flowerpot.
Ji Fanghuai felt a certain injustice. Her life might have been changed because of a perpetrator’s argument.
She asked the assistant: “Are you responsible for Jiang Zhi’s personal life? Do you usually go to her home?”
“I only do very light tasks. Boss Jiang hasn’t asked me to go to her home yet,” the assistant explained. “Actually, it’s pretty much like general chores.”
Ji Fanghuai tried to tease her, raising an eyebrow: “Chores? So you think taking care of me isn’t important?”
“No, no,” the assistant hurriedly explained. “I’ve seen your photo in Boss Jiang’s office, Miss Ji. You are Boss Jiang’s fiancée and a very important person to her. It’s an honor for me to take care of you.”
Ji Fanghuai gave a non-committal shrug.
There was a lotus pond in the park, with willows lining the shore.
Ji Fanghuai and the assistant sat down in a nearby pavilion. The natural scent in the air completely relaxed her body and mind.
Ji Fanghuai only regretted that she was a patient at the moment; otherwise, she would want to skip and hop around.
“Xiao Mi?”
A somewhat sharp female voice suddenly rang out beside her ear. Ji Fanghuai realized the person wasn’t calling her, so she paid no mind and continued to stare at the lotus flowers in the pond.
“Sister Li,” the assistant greeted, sighing inwardly that she ran into a company colleague while working on the weekend. How awful.
The woman called Sister Li wore heavy makeup. She pointed at Ji Fanghuai and asked: “I saw you from far away but wasn’t sure it was you. Is this your girlfriend?”
The assistant flinched at the word “girlfriend” and quickly explained: “This is Boss Jiang’s fiancée.”
She wouldn’t dare steal her boss’s fiancée.
“Boss Jiang has a fiancée?” Sister Li quickly replaced her surprise with a flattering smile. “I’ve been at the company for four years and didn’t know Boss Jiang had a fiancée.”
Ji Fanghuai frowned and listened attentively.
