After Losing My Memory, I Suddenly Had A Fiancée - Chapter 12
The words had been spoken so plainly.
Ji Fanghuai’s face flushed. Seeing Jiang Zhi’s serious expression, she couldn’t bring herself to ask her about it, so she simply skipped over the embarrassing topic. After all, Jiang Zhi would handle everything.
“Did I often stay at home before?” Ji Fanghuai asked subtly.
Jiang Zhi was exceptionally clever and knew Ji Fanghuai well enough to say, “You want to go out?”
Ji Fanghuai decided to be honest, saying, “I want to go to the coffee shop. Didn’t the doctor say that going to familiar places makes it easier to recover memories? I want to go to the coffee shop first, then go back to my hometown—I should still have relatives there—and then visit the schools I used to attend.”
Listing them out, there were quite a few places to go. Maybe her memory would return after visiting them all.
She mentioned so many things, all unrelated to Jiang Zhi. Jiang Zhi’s expression grew darker and darker. Finally, she said, “Familiar environments can also be overstimulating. We need to proceed gradually. That is the doctor’s advice.”
The doctor’s advice trumped everything. Ji Fanghuai drooped, saying, “I was just talking.”
Jiang Zhi continued her recuperation at home for another month. Waking up in Jiang Zhi’s arms every morning, Ji Fanghuai knew, without a doubt, that Jiang Zhi was up to her tricks.
Out of guilt for having amnesia and forgetting her fiancée, she refrained from exposing the matter. Her hair had grown quite a bit, making her look like a hedgehog.
Ji Fanghuai wanted to wear a wig, but Jiang Zhi said a wig would be too tight and might press on her wound, so she only allowed her to wear a hat.
“Then how can I go out?” Ji Fanghuai wondered, troubled. “The weather has been particularly hot these days.”
“You want to go out?” Jiang Zhi instinctively frowned.
Ji Fanghuai had indeed planned to act first and inform later, so she hadn’t discussed it with Jiang Zhi. She said, “I want to drink coffee.”
So it was just for a cup of coffee. Jiang Zhi’s brows relaxed, and she said, “We have some at home.”
Ji Fanghuai replied, “I want to drink the coffee I make myself.”
“We have a coffee machine at home. If anything, else is needed, we can buy it back,” Jiang Zhi said nonchalantly.
“Actually, I just want to go out. I don’t want to stay at home anymore,” Ji Fanghuai said sincerely. “Can I, please?”
Jiang Zhi looked surprised and asked, somewhat disbelievingly, “Are you being coquettish with me?”
Ji Fanghuai paused for a moment, then went along with it, saying, “Yes, I am being coquettish with you. Can I go out? I want to make coffee myself. I want to go and see the coffee shop. I don’t want to be a useless person.”
Jiang Zhi sobered up, correcting her, “You are not a useless person.”
“Then why do you take care of me everywhere? You won’t even let me bend down to tie my shoelaces,” Ji Fanghuai thought about all the restrictions she was under and couldn’t help but retort, “Are you happiest when I’m lying in a hospital bed, unable to move?”
Jiang Zhi remained silent, seemingly considering the feasibility of the idea.
Ji Fanghuai had only said it offhand, but she didn’t expect Jiang Zhi to actually hesitate.
Ji Fanghuai got angry.
The argument seemed to come out of nowhere. In fact, she felt that the adjustment between her and Jiang Zhi was quite good. Jiang Zhi accommodated her everywhere, and she tried her best to cooperate.
“So you were most at ease when I was lying in the hospital,” Ji Fanghuai couldn’t help but sneer.
“Fanghuai, I…” Jiang Zhi wanted to explain, but Ji Fanghuai refused to communicate.
The loss of her memory made her feel like she existed independently, isolated and helpless in this world. Jiang Zhi seemed so reliable that she could only depend on her.
Yet, now that Jiang Zhi had apparently entertained the thought of letting her lie down indefinitely, she suddenly felt like a burden. Injured and with amnesia, she was nothing if not a burden.
At dinner, Aunt Chu muttered, “What’s wrong? You were fine this afternoon.”
Ji Fanghuai kept a poker face, lost in thought. Jiang Zhi was the same as usual, saying, “It’s nothing, Aunt Chu, you go rest first.”
There were only two people at the dining table. Ji Fanghuai quietly shoveled rice into her mouth, not touching any of the dishes.
Jiang Zhi tentatively called out, “Fanghuai?”
Ji Fanghuai didn’t respond. She hastily finished her meal and went to the study to read novels. She went against the rules and read all night. Jiang Zhi stayed with her, her computer and phone untouched.
Ji Fanghuai hated Jiang Zhi’s constant indulgence, which made her feel like the one who had made the mistake. She looked at Jiang Zhi, and Jiang Zhi looked back at her, seeming distracted.
“Fanghuai.”
Her voice sounded a little wronged.
Ji Fanghuai turned her back on her and continued reading. After finishing one novel, she started looking for another.
Jiang Zhi reminded her, “Go to bed early.”
Ji Fanghuai considered her body, then went to wash up and lay in bed. She felt that it would be better to return to her own place. Otherwise, when they had a fight, she had nowhere to go, feeling somewhat dependent.
Jiang Zhi got into bed a little later. Ji Fanghuai subconsciously retreated to the other side; a clear line drawn between them.
Jiang Zhi saw her subtle movement and sighed. “The reason I was hesitant wasn’t because I wanted you to lie down and not go out.”
Ji Fanghuai remained unmoved.
Jiang Zhi continued, “I really didn’t want you to go out because I was scared. When something happened to you, I kept thinking, if you had just been by my side at that time, this wouldn’t have happened.”
Jiang Zhi’s tone was full of self-reproach. Ji Fanghuai moved her lips, wanting to speak but not knowing how.
Seeing this, Jiang Zhi stretched out her long arm and wrapped it around Ji Fanghuai’s waist, pulling her into her embrace.
“Let go of me,” Ji Fanghuai struggled.
Jiang Zhi refused to listen, leaning down to whisper in her ear, “Tomorrow, I’ll take you to the coffee shop. I promise.”
Her lips brushed against Ji Fanghuai’s earlobe, sending a tingling sensation.
Ji Fanghuai shivered, gave up struggling, and coldly replied in Jiang Zhi’s arms, “Mhm.”
Jiang Zhi curled her lips in the darkness.
Before going to the coffee shop, Ji Fanghuai was fully armed. She had braced herself for motion sickness, but Jiang Zhi said, “It’s very close, only three kilometers.”
Sure enough, in less than ten minutes, they arrived at a coffee shop called Shi Guang (Time/Light).
Ji Fanghuai intuitively felt that the location was not suitable for a coffee shop; it wasn’t in a commercial center, nor were there any office buildings nearby. Its only advantage was a nearby subway station.
“This location doesn’t seem very good,” Ji Fanghuai stated frankly. “There isn’t enough foot traffic, and even if there were, there wouldn’t be many consumers.”
Jiang Zhi had a different opinion. She said, “It’s close to home, and it happens to be on my way to the company. Plus, you get carsick. This location is excellent.”
It sounded plausible to Ji Fanghuai, so she didn’t dwell on it.
The coffee shop’s decor was quite fresh. The external sign was shaped like a treehouse. Stepping inside felt like instantly entering a primeval forest. The entire design style was simple and fashionable.
“Welcome.” The clerk behind the counter greeted them, then quickly came out from behind the bar when she realized who they were.
Ji Fanghuai noticed the clerk was more familiar with Jiang Zhi, only seeming to recognize her afterward. The clerk bowed, saying, “Hello, Boss.”
“Hello,” Ji Fanghuai replied, attributing the situation to her wearing a hat, which might have made her unrecognizable at first.
She was probably the only one wearing a hat in such hot weather, besides the daily helmet-wearing Lin Mianmian.
Ji Fanghuai and Jiang Zhi took their seats. The clerk quickly brought over the coffee. Ji Fanghuai inhaled the coffee aroma, feeling as though she had come back to life.
Jiang Zhi skillfully added milk and sugar for her, knowing her preference for sweetness better than Ji Fanghuai herself.
Ji Fanghuai enjoyed Jiang Zhi’s service while observing the situation in the shop from the corner of her eye.
The overall area of the coffee shop was not large, but it was noted for its simple and elegant decor, mainly using green tones.
Ji Fanghuai had always liked green, believing it represented life and hope.
It was morning, and the shop already had quite a few customers, mostly people studying. The environment here was comfortable and quiet, accompanied by soft background music—it was indeed a great place to relax.
Ji Fanghuai pursed her lips and said to Jiang Zhi, “I don’t want to go back.”
Jiang Zhi didn’t object as directly as before this time. Instead, she countered, “Is your body well now?”
“Do you believe me if I say I can go clubbing right now?” Ji Fanghuai said, then guiltily added, “Actually, you know my body better than I do.”
After strictly following Sun Wen’s diet for a month at home, she had gained weight, but she hadn’t exercised for a long time and was very weak.
“You’re still not suited for work right now. Work is very tiring.” In Jiang Zhi’s view, Ji Fanghuai still needed convalescence. She hoped Ji Fanghuai would have the same realization as Xing Ling that she didn’t want to work.
“It’s not work. I just want to sit here, occasionally read a book, make a cup of coffee. You can drop me off on your way to work and pick me up on your way home, and we can go home together.”
Ji Fanghuai tried her best to describe the idea of going to the shop beautifully, and she also proactively included Jiang Zhi in the plan.
Perhaps after imagining the scene and considering that Ji Fanghuai had already been angry once last night, Jiang Zhi finally and reluctantly agreed to her coming to the shop.
“You can come, but you can’t push yourself. The work will still be handled by the manager. You are only responsible for relaxing.”
“Thank you,” Ji Fanghuai said, her face beaming with happiness, like a mischievous child who had been allowed to play a video game by a parent.
Jiang Zhi didn’t want to hear the word “thank you,” but she didn’t comment further, only saying, “We still need to make some preparations.”
The so-called preparations meant stocking the shop with a pile of necessary medicines, and a small assistant had to be on call at all times.
The small assistant was essentially replacing the boss.
To keep Jiang Zhi from worrying, Ji Fanghuai agreed to everything.
She finally felt that her life had taken a turn for the better, no longer just sleeping and eating in a hospital room, or having her activity strictly controlled at home.
“Then I’ll come to pick you up promptly at five o’clock.”
Jiang Zhi adjusted Ji Fanghuai’s hat, then gave her a fleeting kiss on her forehead.
