After Little Sweet Omega Runs with the Ball - Chapter 54
The little pregnant woman, under the Alpha’s playful interrogation, eventually cried until her voice was hoarse. Of course, as an interrogator with a sense of human care, the Alpha covered the little pregnant woman’s mouth to prevent her from damaging her throat.
Song Shuangtian was left speechless. As a result, she did not speak a single word to Ji Mingxue for nearly a week.
“Ji Mingxue said you are pregnant?” Yuan Yin and He Yanyan asked, arriving at Song Shuangtian’s office hand in hand. They both glanced curiously at Song Shuangtian’s very flat abdomen.
Song Shuangtian’s face darkened instantly. “I am not pregnant. Do not listen to her nonsense.”
“I heard President Ji wanted to take you for a detailed checkup, but you refused,” He Yanyan added.
Song Shuangtian remained silent. An examination had to be done, but not now. She could not be bothered to explain.
“He Yanyan and I will attend the banquet tonight. Happy early fourth birthday to Guanguan,” Yuan Yin said.
Song Shuangtian’s expression softened. “Thank you.”
Yuan Yin waved her hand, saying there was no need for such formalities between them, and then reached out to touch Song Shuangtian’s belly. Song Shuangtian was startled. There was no need for formalities, but this was far too forward.
Yuan Yin stroked Song Shuangtian’s flat stomach with the back of her hand and even gave it a little squeeze, making Song Shuangtian feel extremely uncomfortable.
“As an Alpha, you need to maintain proper boundaries,” Song Shuangtian noted.
Yuan Yin chuckled sheepishly. “My girlfriend is watching right here; I do not need to worry about boundaries.”
He Yanyan shot her a sharp look, and Yuan Yin quickly retracted her hand. “A friend’s wife is not to be trifled with.” He Yanyan nudged Yuan Yin hard with her elbow, making the latter wince in pain.
As a doctor, He Yanyan sat Song Shuangtian down on the sofa with concern and carefully inquired about the symptoms of this phantom pregnancy. Song Shuangtian lowered her eyes and explained the entire process.
“I did not expect a phantom pregnancy to actually occur. I thought it only happened in rabbits,” He Yanyan said in surprise.
“Fortunately, it lasted less than a week, but Ji Mingxue took it seriously,” Song Shuangtian replied with a complex expression.
Bright sunlight shone on the Omega’s清麗 face, casting a golden glow around her. Song Shuangtian shielded her abdomen with one hand and patted He Yanyan’s hand with the other. “Do not worry. My body is not suitable for pregnancy; I likely will not conceive again.”
Even the restless Yuan Yin grew quiet upon hearing this. “Is there really no chance? I will contact the top doctors abroad to treat you.”
Song Shuangtian’s smile held a mix of helplessness and relief. “Having Guanguan is enough. You surely do not expect Yanyan to give birth to eight or ten children at once, do you?”
Yuan Yin shook her head vigorously, making the Maltese in her arms bark. Giving birth to ten children would be like a sow having a litter. Both had witnessed the pain of childbirth, and after hearing Song Shuangtian’s words, Yuan Yin never brought up the topic of having children with He Yanyan again. If every birth was a brush with death, it was better not to have any. For people born into prominent families like theirs, getting a child was simple enough; they could always adopt one from a side branch.
Before leaving, Yuan Yin noticed Song Shuangtian’s bare neck. Song Shuangtian followed her gaze and smiled. “Reborn is developing better than the old ST Group ever did. I have become more successful than my mother. I will be a good parent and a good chairman.”
She no longer needed to wear her mother’s heirlooms to prove the connection between them. Yuan Yin understood her unspoken meaning and stepped forward to give Song Shuangtian a friendly hug. “It is good that you have moved on. Let the past stay in the dustbin of history.”
“Oh? The Chairman is finished with work?”
A flashy red convertible was parked at the entrance of Reborn. The receptionist said expressionlessly, “Parking is prohibited here.”
If Reborn employees once held a certain image of the M Group Chairman, they had grown indifferent after Song Shuangtian had that broken car towed away. No one was allowed to park at the main entrance or block the way.
Ji Mingxue was not angry; her smile only widened. “Chairman, I am here to pick you up.”
Song Shuangtian stepped out of the elevator and saw Ji Mingxue flaunting her charm as a married Alpha. She looked so flashy. Song Shuangtian felt a bit helpless and wanted to retreat back into the elevator. It was too embarrassing.
“Chairman.” The married Alpha produced a bouquet of roses as bright as the sun from the passenger seat. She was wearing high heels and a long black formal dress, adorned with dazzling jewelry on her neck and wrists. The Alpha performed a standard European knight’s salute to the Omega.
“What is wrong with you?” Song Shuangtian asked. “Also, you are not allowed to park at the entrance. I am giving you five minutes to move it, or I will call the towing company to throw it out.”
Ji Mingxue was not threatened at all. The evening sunset behind her cast a warm glow over her extravagant display. She presented the roses to Song Shuangtian with an expectant look. “Come, I will take you to the banquet.”
“Today is Guanguan’s birthday, not mine,” Song Shuangtian said with a headache. She had not changed her clothes yet and was still wearing a sharp business suit.
Ji Mingxue stuffed the roses into her hands. “Guanguan is already at the banquet hall. I am here to get you.”
Ji Mingxue would never forget that today was Guanguan’s fourth birthday. Four years ago today, her beloved child had survived a narrow escape in the delivery room, clutching a jade bracelet that carried a faint trace of pheromones. Compared to a child raised in luxury, the Alpha felt her wife needed even more care and attention.
Passing employees could not hear what they were saying, but seeing the M Group President offering roses in pursuit of love, they all began filming with their phones. Only the veteran employees remained calm. This scene was far too common. Ji Mingxue’s car alone had been towed away by Song Shuangtian seven or eight times. Yet she still stubbornly parked at the entrance, blocking everyone’s way. It felt like she was forcing all the employees to watch their display of affection.
The Alpha’s etiquette was impeccable. She walked quickly to the car door, bent down to open it, and gestured for Song Shuangtian to sit in the passenger seat. The Omega held the fragrant red roses, her cheeks turning slightly red from either embarrassment or shyness. The Alpha quickly sat in the driver’s seat and gave a long whistle.
“Fasten your seatbelt. I am taking you for a drive.”
Song Shuangtian thought to herself that there was no point in a drive during the evening rush hour. After ensuring her partner was buckled in, the Alpha started the car and floored the accelerator. The wind blew through Ji Mingxue’s flowing hair and ruffled the roses in Song Shuangtian’s hands.
In the past, everything had taught Song Shuangtian to be a good girl and a qualified heir. She could not go for joyrides, engage in attention-grabbing behavior, or casually accept roses. She had to grow into the heir her mother would like, or at least the version she thought her mother would prefer. But that was not the reality.
The red sports car stopped in front of a luxury hotel under M Group. The place was already crowded with guests. Seeing Ji Mingxue arrive, the invited guests hurried over to greet her. Ji Mingxue ignored the others, stepped out of the car while holding her skirt, and used etiquette that even the most rigid European aristocrat could not fault to open the door for her Chairman.
“I wonder if the Chairman is satisfied with my service?”
The invited guests cheered. They had never seen the normally precious and arrogant Alpha leader wear such an obedient and pleasing smile. It seemed that as long as Song Shuangtian nodded, she would gain immense satisfaction. Was this really the head of M Group? It was ridiculous. This is what an Alpha looks like when they are deeply in love. Several business owners who had been squeezed by M Group before wore complex, sour expressions. They wondered what kind of spell Reborn had cast on Ji Mingxue. They wanted some of that, too.
“It is acceptable. Here is your tip,” the Omega said with dignity. She took two coins from her handbag and tossed them to Ji Mingxue. The crisp sound of the coins was the greatest praise for the Alpha. Ji Mingxue smiled and took the Omega’s arm, not feeling insulted by the two dollars at all. Being recognized by her wife made the CEO very happy.
The guests were speechless. Was this their daughter’s birthday party or their engagement party? Which unscrupulous media outlet had spread the rumors that M Group and Reborn were at odds?
Guanguan, as the birthday girl, had changed into a princess dress long ago. She had loved shiny things since she was a child, and every gem on her dress was provided by Song Shuangtian. The small crown on her head was made of pure gold, topped with a pear-shaped diamond. Little Guanguan was undoubtedly the center of attention. This birthday banquet was not only for socialites; television stations had also been invited to live stream the event.
The luxury hotel under M Group was not open to the public, and few outsiders knew of it. Once the live stream started, netizens were envious. Some people are indeed born in Rome. Some claimed that children raised in such families must be unhappy, but an insider from the kindergarten immediately posted a photo of Guanguan climbing a tree. If the child was already climbing to the heavens, how much happier could she be? Most comments expressed envy, while a small portion suggested the relationship between Ji Mingxue and Song Shuangtian was purely a business marriage.
However, the camera then panned to the Alpha and Omega dancing a social dance at their child’s birthday party, completely ignoring the guests.
“Enough, Ji Mingxue. Everyone is watching us.” Song Shuangtian tried to push her away, but the Alpha held her waist tightly, giving her no chance to refuse.
The banquet hall was brilliantly lit. The gold-leaf ceiling held a magnificent crystal chandelier that cast a soft glow. No one would question it if someone said this was an ancient palace in Europe. The Alpha had changed into an exquisite mermaid dress with layers of skirts that swayed with her steps. Ji Mingxue wore a simple black formal dress that highlighted her tall figure. She smiled tenderly at her Omega, and their gaze reflected deep love.
Ji Mingxue’s hand on Song Shuangtian’s waist made the Omega feel a spark, causing her to miss a step and step on Ji Mingxue’s toe with her high heel. Ji Mingxue’s smile did not change, as if being stepped on by Song Shuangtian was an honor. She thought it would be even better if she could be stepped on a few more times; perhaps her Omega would feel guilty. An Alpha’s body is strong enough to endure more trouble.
The two tall women danced gracefully to the slow music, creating a space independent of the noisy guests. The guests could not take their eyes off the couple until Song Shuangtian performed a turn, drawing gasps of admiration. Guanguan did not feel neglected at all. She led a little girl to mimic the dance steps of her parents. She was a bit clumsy and stepped on the little girl’s foot. The companion cried. Guanguan stood there at a loss and quickly offered a bright strawberry to the girl.
“Here, eat a strawberry. If you eat the red fruit, it will not hurt anymore.”
As the dance concluded, the Alpha and Omega performed a knight’s salute to each other. Song Shuangtian treated the dance as the opening ceremony of the banquet, intending for the rest of the time to belong to their child.
“Fine, stop standing here in the way,” Song Shuangtian whispered to Ji Mingxue. “People did not come here to watch you dance.”
“They would not dare not to watch,” the Alpha snorted. “Let us dance another one.”
Song Shuangtian refused the reckless proposal. She did not want to continue dancing with this Alpha, whose hand had moved from her shoulder blade to her waist, then to her tailbone, and finally rested on her backside. Song Shuangtian’s ears were burning hot, and she could only glare at her with red eyes.
Suddenly, a startling bolt of yellow lightning flashed past the window, striking the distant horizon, followed by a roar of thunder. Large raindrops fell instantly as heavy clouds obscured the moon.
“It is raining outside. The sunset was beautiful today; I did not expect a typhoon,” Song Shuangtian said.
The guests were startled by the thunder. They had not noticed the sky turning dark and the wind picking up while the Reborn Chairman and M Group President were dancing. Until the typhoon warning sounded, the heavy rain fell as if on command. A flicker of disappointment crossed Guanguan’s bright eyes as she stared at the raindrops. She did not know it would rain today. She was worried her birthday would be ruined by the typhoon and rain. She vaguely heard some gossips saying the child’s status was questionable and perhaps even the heavens could not stand it.
A bitter woman with a fan looked at Guanguan out of the corner of her eye. “Look at the diamond on her crown. It is almost larger than the one on the scepter of the queen who was crowned this year.”
“I heard Song Shuangtian and Ji Mingxue are not married yet. Is this child not an illegitimate daughter?”
“Shh, keep your voice down. Do not let the kid hear you.”
“What do children know?” A jeweler’s wife looked at Guanguan coldly. “If there is one illegitimate child, there will be two or three. Perhaps Ji Mingxue and Song Shuangtian have their own children elsewhere. The fight for inheritance will be interesting then.”
The little girl stood there, her ears ringing. Guanguan knew children should not defy adults, but having been pampered by her mommy and great aunt since childhood, she could not stand such a grievance. Guanguan loved her family and believed they all loved her. The jeweler’s wife, sensing Guanguan’s expression was off, waved her fan and went to talk to other ladies.
“Mommy.” Guanguan stumbled into Song Shuangtian’s arms. “Mommy, it is raining outside. The cars of the uncles and aunts are getting wet. Will they dislike Guanguan because of that? Will they think Guanguan is an unlucky child?”
Ji Mingxue’s face darkened instantly. Lu Xing also attended the banquet and leaned down to comfort her. “You do not need to worry. No one would want to miss your birthday.”
A child would not say such things about being unlucky without reason; it was likely that some stupid and malicious people had been gossiping in front of her. Reborn and M Group’s success had surely offended many peers. Those peers did not dare to do anything else but mutter in front of a child.
Ji Mingxue held Guanguan in her arms to coax her. “Lu Xing, go investigate.”
But Guanguan broke free and dived back into her mommy’s arms. She whispered into her mommy’s ear, “Mommy, do you have another baby?” She carefully placed her hand on her mommy’s belly.
Song Shuangtian felt a pang of pain in her heart at the child’s timid look. “Mommy only has Guanguan. There is only you now, and there will only be you in the future.”
“But Mother said and others said.”
Song Shuangtian placed a finger to her lips. “Shh, Mommy is not pregnant. Look, Mommy’s belly is flat.”
Guanguan’s worried little face lit up instantly. “I love Mommy the most!”
Ji Mingxue, having lost the hug, was confused. The jeweler’s wife waved her fan, looking at the rain with disgust and muttering, “My car is a convertible; I hope the doorman does not drive it into the rain.” She suddenly sensed a cold gaze behind her and turned to face Lu Xing.
“Director Lu?” the jeweler’s wife said with a perfect social smile. She had heard that Lu Xing was still unmarried. Although the woman was married herself, what high-ranking Alpha would refuse a lover?
“Today is the young lady’s birthday. She unfortunately heard some rumors and is now in low spirits. As an elder, I feel very worried,” Lu Xing said.
The jeweler’s wife paused. She saw Guanguan burying her face in Song Shuangtian’s arms. The little girl in the princess dress looked like a worried strawberry. The wife had a bad premonition. “What is Director Lu talking about? I do not understand.” Who would actually care about a child’s feelings enough to offend a future partner? It was just a child; a few words of coaxing would settle it.
Before the jeweler’s wife could react, Lu Xing grabbed her arm. Lu Xing’s cold and rational personality was well known in the industry; she was like a work machine. Lu Xing pulled her and threw her out of the main door into the pouring rain. The jeweler’s wife, in her high-end dress, was covered in rain and mud. She looked at Lu Xing in disbelief. Lu Xing, standing at the top of the steps, maintained her calm expression.
“Please watch your words,” Lu Xing said. She closed the door and wiped the fingers that had touched the woman with a disinfectant wipe.
Guanguan, having received her mommy’s assurance, saw the woman who had spoken ill of her being thrown into the rain and cursed without regard for her image. The other guests had no intention of speaking up for the jeweler’s wife and instead complimented the sole heir of the two groups. Guanguan did not think Lu Xing’s actions were entirely correct, but she was happy that her family would always stand by her. If someone bullied Guanguan, someone would stand up for her.
Ji Mingxue touched the top of her child’s head. “I cannot guarantee that no one will ever bully you in this life, but I can guarantee that everyone who does will pay a price. Of course, Mother believes Guanguan is a good child.” Because her child was good, she did not worry about her being spoiled.
The banquet was coming to an end. The door to the lounge was gently closed, shutting out the noise and leaving only the Alpha and Omega. Guanguan was playing with her friends, giving the two young parents some time alone. The sudden solitude made the Omega’s breathing and heartbeat quicken, echoing in the empty room. She wanted to change out of her beautiful but restrictive mermaid dress.
“Do you think Lu Xing’s handling was a bit too aggressive?” Song Shuangtian asked helplessly. “Or is it that M Group’s way of handling things is always so simple and crude?”
Song Shuangtian’s question went unanswered. “Ji Mingxue?”
Her shoulder was suddenly touched gently. She turned back, her eyes widening. Ji Mingxue was on one knee before her, holding a small black velvet gift box. The Omega’s heart jumped; it was unbelievable yet felt completely natural. The Alpha smiled at her shifting emotions and opened the box.
“Song Shuangtian, will you marry me?”
Inside the box was a pink diamond necklace that looked like it belonged in a dream world, along with a matching ring. The hand holding the box had several small scratches on it. Ji Mingxue had made this herself. Only something she made herself would be worthy of Song Shuangtian. Ji Mingxue had not touched a gem-polishing machine in a long time, and her hands had many scratches from decorating their small house lately.
Song Shuangtian looked at Ji Mingxue’s serious and persistent eyes, and a strong emotion surged in her heart. Only Ji Mingxue would act this way. Suddenly, a drop of liquid fell to the floor. Song Shuangtian touched her cheek and realized she was crying. She could not make a sound; she simply grabbed Ji Mingxue’s wrist and pulled her up.
“Song Shuangtian, will you marry me?” Ji Mingxue wiped the tears from her face. “If you do not speak, I will take it as a yes.”
She had intended to propose at the banquet, but she was worried about gossip and decided on this quiet lounge instead. Her Omega was too sensitive and needed her constant care. Song Shuangtian cried silently, unable to speak, and could only nod repeatedly while burying her head in Ji Mingxue’s arms. Outside, the typhoon roared, and rain tapped against the glass. The lightning flashing across the sky seemed to be cheering for them. With the lightning and thunder as witnesses, their love was eternal.
The necklace, carrying Ji Mingxue’s warmth, filled Song Shuangtian’s bare neck. “Tiantian, I have already picked a wedding date. Do you want to have it before or after you have the baby?”
The emotional Song Shuangtian was confused. “What?”
Ji Mingxue kissed her neck gently. “Tiantian, promise me you will have a checkup, okay? I have made an appointment with a doctor for tomorrow.”
Song Shuangtian stopped crying and began to panic. Was it too late to refuse the proposal now?
