After Little Sweet Omega Runs with the Ball - Chapter 50
Song Shuangtian was in shock.
She looked repeatedly at the pregnancy test in her hand, which displayed two distinct lines. No matter how she looked at it, she could not believe she was actually pregnant. Being pregnant was one thing; facing the reality of it was quite another.
The Omega gripped the plastic stick so tightly she nearly snapped it in half. Closing her eyes, she sighed inwardly, thinking that she really should have had that damned tooth of Ji Mingxue’s pulled out long ago. Alphas were truly good for nothing.
Tiantian was fuming; she was so upset she lost her appetite entirely.
“Have you had dinner yet? I can make you some seafood soup,” Ji Mingxue’s voice drifted in from outside the door, sounding muffled through the wood.
“Get lost!”
Song Shuangtian threw the pregnancy test directly at the door with a loud thud.
Standing in the hallway, Ji Mingxue was confused. She was not the type to get angry just because her partner was being moody. She continued to coax her gently, “You need to eat something. Do not let yourself go hungry.”
The Alpha’s left arm was currently immobile. Thanks to the resilience of an Alpha’s body, it would likely heal on its own by morning, so she had no intention of seeing a doctor. She was currently wearing a pair of Song Shuangtian’s peach colored pajamas, looking somewhat frail and quiet compared to her usual self.
Unfortunately, Song Shuangtian could not see this. If she had, she likely would have offered more cold mockery, or perhaps stuffed the pregnancy test into Ji Mingxue’s mouth.
“Go away! I do not want to eat!”
Ji Mingxue wondered why her appetite had vanished so suddenly. Even if Song Shuangtian said she had no appetite, Ji Mingxue could not simply leave her without food. Since she refused heavy meals and seafood soup, Ji Mingxue thought, “Our Chairman is becoming harder and harder to serve.” She relaxed her expression, feeling that such pickiness was merely proof that she was pampering her well.
“There is still some meat filling in the kitchen,” Ji Mingxue called out. “I will make you some bubble wontons.”
Inside the master bedroom, Song Shuangtian picked up the pregnancy test that had fallen to the floor and tossed the broken pieces into the trash can. She closed her eyes for a moment, glaring at the trash bag, before finally placing her hand over her flat stomach.
She panicked for a while, pacing around the room like a stressed parrot. After a moment, the delicate Omega took a deep breath of fresh air, pressing her hand against her pounding chest. Her skin was flushed a pale pink from anger, her face like a blooming peach and her long hair scattered, giving her a touch of maternal grace.
“Now is not a good time to raise a child,” Song Shuangtian thought. “However, if I leave all the child rearing to Ji Mingxue, that might be a good decision.”
But then, after the initial anxiety, she had to consider the practical issues. If there were a second child, would Guanguan get jealous? Would she be upset? Guanguan was her eldest daughter and the sole heir to both Reborn and the M Group. If there were another child, would there be a struggle for inheritance in the future?
Song Shuangtian’s brow furrowed deeply. Moonlight streamed through the floor to ceiling windows, casting a misty silver glow across the floor. Two knocks on the door pulled her back from her anxious thoughts.
Ji Mingxue carried a tray with her right hand. “Have some wontons.”
The small wontons in the bowl were plump and lovely. Jiangnan style wontons are known for their delicate skins; the meat filling in each was only the size of a soybean. The wrappers were cooked until translucent, having absorbed the essence of the broth. One could swallow them whole without even chewing.
Song Shuangtian’s icy expression softened slightly. She said haughtily, “You are giving me this to eat?”
Ji Mingxue replied, “If you do not eat it, I will.” She then asked, “Did you encounter something unpleasant at the company today? If there is anything I can help with, please do not hesitate to ask.”
The Alpha’s smile was perfect, despite a stray smudge of flour on her face. Song Shuangtian snatched the tray away aggressively. “Who said I am not eating?”
Faced with her temperamental wife, Ji Mingxue had the foresight to pull out a chair and invite the Chairman to sit.
“Reborn is developing very well. Do not trouble yourself over it.”
With a bowl of wontons in her stomach, Song Shuangtian’s racing heart began to calm. The Omega then noticed that her spoon was made of precious metal, and the usual white porcelain bowl had been replaced with one of white jade, which complemented her snowy fingertips beautifully.
“You really are a spendthrift,” Song Shuangtian remarked.
Ji Mingxue used a handkerchief to wipe the corner of her mouth. “It is fine. I only bought this one set for you. I use a ten yuan porcelain set.”
Song Shuangtian coughed. “Do you like children?”
“I do,” Ji Mingxue replied. “If every child in the world were like Guanguan, the term naughty child would not even exist on the internet. She is the loveliest little angel I have ever seen.”
Song Shuangtian’s expression was complicated. “I see.”
The consequence of eating the wontons was being skillfully coaxed into bed by the Alpha. Once there, Song Shuangtian discovered that the original king sized bed had been replaced by a much larger custom one.
The Omega’s body sank into the soft down. Ji Mingxue propped herself up with one hand over her. The Alpha used her teeth to undo the buttons on her clothing, her tongue grazing the Omega’s lower abdomen. Song Shuangtian pushed her away, but Ji Mingxue persisted, kissing the side of her waist.
“Tiantian, the child is already asleep.”
Song Shuangtian kicked her away, but the Alpha caught her foot and bit her toe playfully.
“You are no better than a beast!”
“I will not do anything else. I just want to hold you, alright?”
Song Shuangtian’s bad mood today had given Ji Mingxue a sense of crisis. Although she was feeling a certain way due to her wife’s attitude, she could not go against Song Shuangtian’s wishes and mark her.
“Just a hug, please?”
Ji Mingxue pulled the Omega into her arms. The Alpha’s scent enveloped her, wrapping her up like a cocoon. Song Shuangtian coughed, overwhelmed by the strong scent of Magnolia pheromones. She had expected to be unable to sleep, but after a bit of struggling, she gradually drifted off.
Her flushed cheek was buried against Ji Mingxue’s neck, her body wrapped in a silk duvet with her legs intertwined with the Alpha’s. Looking at her fragile state, one would never guess how shrewd and capable she was in the business world. Song Shuangtian was like a treasure that required a patient explorer. Fortunately, Ji Mingxue was a very qualified explorer.
“You brought me to pick watermelons in the middle of summer?” Song Shuangtian asked with a strained smile. “Are you sleepwalking?”
“Go be crazy on your own. I am not joining you.”
Today, Ji Mingxue was not wearing a high end suit or any formal attire. She wore a simple short sleeved shirt and a rare pair of denim shorts. Both she and Guanguan were wearing straw hats.
The manager of the organic farm stood proudly before the vast melon field, wearing a baseball cap and work clothes. Ji Mingxue smiled and said, “Go ahead with your work. I will just look around with my family.”
It was the weekend, and Guanguan’s kindergarten teacher had asked the parents to take photos of the children participating in outdoor activities. Following Guanguan’s previous stunt of climbing a utility pole, she had become a celebrity in her class. Several other children had tried to imitate her, leading to some stern educational talks from their own parents.
The lush green field offered a sense of summer coolness. Song Shuangtian sat alone in a shaded area. It was a modern facility, ostensibly a shed but actually an air conditioned lounge filled with electronic control equipment. The melon field required little manual labor, as a series of smart programs managed it.
Song Shuangtian wore peach colored glasses. Resting her chin on her hand, she watched as Ji Mingxue lifted a watermelon with one hand and tapped it gently with the other.
Guanguan cheered, “Wow! Is the melon sweet?”
Ji Mingxue tapped around. “Very sweet.”
The Omega was wearing a long vacation dress with a wide neckline, revealing her snowy skin that glowed under the sun. She idly fanned herself with a lace fan, the scent of orange blossoms mingling with the cool air from the lounge and drifting toward Ji Mingxue.
“Mother is amazing! Guanguan wants to tap too!”
Ji Mingxue’s expression stiffened for a moment. She tapped the melon again. “Does it sound good?” The melon gave off a dull, thumping sound.
The organic watermelons grown on the farm were a seedless variety with deep green stripes. From a distance, they looked like green waves. Up close, one could smell the fresh, sweet aroma of the fruit.
Ji Mingxue said with total seriousness, “If it sounds good, it is a good melon.”
Song Shuangtian thought to herself, “Do not teach the child nonsense.” The farm staff wondered if this was some new international standard for quality.
Guanguan cried out in excitement, “Guanguan wants to eat the melon!”
Song Shuangtian watched from afar, fanning herself and waiting to see how Ji Mingxue would handle the situation. Guanguan was having too much fun to notice that Ji Mingxue’s left arm was hanging limp and her movements were stiff.
Song Shuangtian frowned slightly. She was happy to see Ji Mingxue and Guanguan bonding; she did not want her daughter’s childhood to consist only of books and extracurricular classes. Children needed to run wild in nature to grow well.
Ji Mingxue smiled and picked the watermelon. She flicked it with her fingers, and the melon cracked open.
“Wow!” Guanguan exclaimed. “A good sounding melon!”
Ji Mingxue fell silent. The inside was white, with only the very center showing a hint of red. It was not ripe.
Guanguan’s excited face went blank. “Does the melon not sound good?”
The farm worker looked as if his world were ending. The CEO, who was about to launch a line of agricultural products, quickly closed the melon. “Right, this one does not sound good. Let us find one that does.”
Song Shuangtian was laughing so hard she could barely stay upright. Hearing her laughter, Ji Mingxue felt a wave of embarrassment.
Song Shuangtian walked into the field under a sun umbrella. In the distance, she saw a young woman in work clothes sitting in the staff break area, looking dejected while staring at her phone.
“Sister Chen, do not resign. A good job like this is hard to find. You are beautiful and highly educated; you will surely be promoted in the future.”
Song Shuangtian paused. She had intended to take a walk, but she had accidentally entered the employee area.
“That is right,” another voice said. “Just get an abortion. Do not raise a burden.”
Song Shuangtian frowned. She looked at the girl called Sister Chen. She did not seem very old, but her face was haggard, making her look several years older than she likely was. As an Omega, her features were naturally delicate, and even in her exhausted state, she had a fragile beauty.
“What is happening?” Song Shuangtian asked. “It should not be time for a lunch break.”
Perhaps because Song Shuangtian’s presence was so commanding, the gathered employees scrambled to their feet, assuming she was a newly appointed manager. Seeing her cold expression, they quickly dispersed. Only the Omega named Sister Chen remained.
“Are you pregnant?”
Sister Chen flinched. Pregnant Omegas release specific pheromones, so she was not surprised that Song Shuangtian had noticed.
“Yes, ma’am. I plan to resign.”
Song Shuangtian said calmly, “Why resign because of pregnancy? The M Group has subsidies for pregnant employees.” Some more calculating employees would even wait to collect the subsidy before resigning.
Sister Chen held her slightly protruding abdomen. “Ma’am, I am not in a state to work. I will be a burden to the project team.”
Despite the blazing sun, Song Shuangtian felt a chill in this spot. Sister Chen murmured, “My partner does not want to marry me. After finding out I was pregnant, she sent a text to break up and is already on a flight out of the country.”
An Omega without an Alpha to care for them during pregnancy has a very difficult time. Without enough Alpha pheromones, the Omega can suffer from various adverse reactions, ranging from vomiting and fainting to life threatening complications for both the fetus and the mother. Many pregnant women without Alpha support have died in the delivery room. Although medicine has developed synthetic pheromones, they are expensive and out of reach for many.
Song Shuangtian recalled her own experience giving birth. Although she had the money for medication, her specific condition had made it incompatible with her body. This was one reason she had been so hesitant to open her heart to Ji Mingxue. Fortunately, Ji Mingxue was now acting as a proper wife and mother.
“Alphas are all good for nothing. I will never touch one again,” the girl sobbed. “Ma’am, here is my resignation letter.”
Sister Chen handed the crumpled letter to Song Shuangtian, but she did not take it. Sister Chen did not really want to terminate the pregnancy; it is difficult for an Omega to conceive again after an abortion, and they often form a strong bond with the child in the womb.
“Ma’am?”
Song Shuangtian said, “Give it to the head of the relevant department. However, you should think carefully. The M Group has invested in the medical industry. Within the next six months, we will begin experimental production of synthetic pheromones, and internal employees will have priority for trial use. It will be free of charge.”
Sister Chen’s eyes lit up. “Is that true?”
“Go ask and you will find out,” Song Shuangtian replied. Before the girl could recover, the beautiful woman had already walked away.
Song Shuangtian wandered around, picking and eating some fruit. She eventually returned to the melon field to find a large pile of watermelons next to Guanguan. Ji Mingxue was bending over to pick another one.
“Has the M Group fallen so low that the President has to work as manual labor?” Song Shuangtian asked. The field used automated harvesting; there was no need for manual picking.
Ji Mingxue wiped her hands. “Guanguan likes it.”
Song Shuangtian saw that her face under the straw hat was covered in sweat and her shirt was soaked. Her Magnolia pheromones were pouring out along with the sweat.
“It is too strong,” Song Shuangtian remarked.
“Mother, I want this one, and that one!” Guanguan pointed at melons as if she were a judge, demanding Ji Mingxue pick each one.
Song Shuangtian finally could not watch any longer. “Can you even eat all of those?”
“I want to bring them for the children at the kindergarten,” Guanguan replied.
Song Shuangtian thought to herself that Guanguan was certainly being generous while making her mother do all the heavy lifting. Ji Mingxue had a white towel around her neck, which she used to wipe her brow. She looked like a seasoned laborer.
Song Shuangtian pulled a ten yuan note from her wallet. “A tip for your hard work.”
Ji Mingxue smiled and went to take it with her right hand, but since she was holding the towel, she reached out with her left. The light banknote slipped through her fingers. It fell onto the dirt. Ji Mingxue froze, then bent down to pick it up with her right hand.
“I am sorry. My hand is shaking a bit. I did not mean to reject your reward.”
Song Shuangtian glanced at the pile of melons and then at the exhausted child. “Come with me.” She took Ji Mingxue’s right hand and pulled her into the air conditioned lounge. “What is wrong with your left hand?”
Ji Mingxue replied helplessly, “It is nothing. My hand is just shaking.”
“Do you have any idea how important a pair of hands is to a jewelry designer!” Song Shuangtian snapped.
Ji Mingxue rubbed her left arm, which she still could not lift properly. “I do not do the designing; I only handle decisions. You are worrying too much.”
Song Shuangtian was angered by her dismissive attitude. She squeezed Ji Mingxue’s wrist hard, causing the Alpha to gasp in pain. Ji Mingxue had been wearing rubber gloves while working. Now that she took them off, her arm was covered in large patches of bruising.
Song Shuangtian’s expression immediately darkened. “What happened? Did someone finally get fed up with you and jump you in an alleyway?”
Ji Mingxue laughed. “Think more kindly of me, please.”
Under Song Shuangtian’s questioning, Ji Mingxue finally told her the truth.
“No wonder you said Guanguan would not be climbing trees anymore,” Song Shuangtian remarked. She did not want Ji Mingxue to delay treatment, so she called a car to take her to the hospital immediately. As for Guanguan, since she loved melons so much, she could stay there and eat them.
Ji Mingxue tried to refuse, but seeing Song Shuangtian’s face, she did not dare speak. A fierce Omega was quite intimidating. Song Shuangtian sent Ji Mingxue to the surgical department while she went to the Omega clinic alone.
“Doctor, am I pregnant?”
The hospital air conditioning was cold, and Song Shuangtian’s shoulders were shaking slightly. She was not ready to welcome another child. She looked down, her eyes full of conflict and anxiety. Ji Mingxue would undoubtedly be a good mother, but she really did not want to endure the pain of pregnancy again.
The doctor applied gel to her abdomen and moved the ultrasound probe over it. “No.”
“What?”
“You are not pregnant.”
Song Shuangtian pointed at a shadow on the screen that looked like a pair of Siamese twins. “What is that? It is moving!” Her pupils dilated in shock.
“That is your stomach,” the doctor replied. “You ate quite a lot for lunch.”
“Oh.”
“You are not pregnant,” the doctor repeated.
Song Shuangtian used a tissue to wipe the gel off her stomach. She looked up in disbelief. “But the pregnancy test.”
“It is a phantom pregnancy,” the doctor explained.
Song Shuangtian still had not processed the news when she left the room.
“It is a phantom pregnancy. Long term exposure to an Alpha’s pheromones has caused your body to create the illusion of pregnancy. Your constitution is unique; it is not suited for multiple pregnancies. Simply put, you can likely only have one child in your life. You should refuse your partner’s frequent markings. I understand young couples are passionate, but excessive intake of Alpha pheromones affects an Omega’s own secretion. Do you know about rabbits? If you pet a rabbit’s back too much, it can also have a phantom pregnancy.”
Before she left, the doctor added, “Young people should exercise some restraint. The phantom pregnancy symptoms will last for one to three weeks. It is best not to be marked by an Alpha during this time, or it will continue.”
Song Shuangtian clenched her fists. Simply put, Ji Mingxue was just too much!
When Ji Mingxue emerged from the surgical department, her arm was bandaged, and she was still wearing the straw hat. Fortunately, she was beautiful enough that it looked like a fashion choice.
Song Shuangtian asked darkly, “What did the doctor say?”
“Just a muscle injury. It is fine,” Ji Mingxue replied. She smiled. “Is Tiantian worried about me?”
“You are lucky my child did not crush you to death,” Song Shuangtian said coldly.
Ji Mingxue realized her wife was angry again. Noticing the medical report in Song Shuangtian’s hand, she grew anxious. “Are you sick? Where are you uncomfortable? Why did you not tell me sooner? Let me see the report.”
Song Shuangtian curled her lips. She took a step back, hiding the report behind her back. “No, I am fine. Do not worry about it.” She looked pitiful, light dancing on her eyelashes. After a moment, a tear appeared in the corner of her eye.
“Tiantian?” Ji Mingxue’s heart raced. “Is it a serious illness? It is okay; I can contact the best doctors in the world for you. Nothing will happen to you. Do not be afraid.”
Song Shuangtian turned her head away, biting her lip to keep from laughing out loud. “No, I am not sick. Just do not worry about it. Do not let it affect your work.” She made a move to run toward the exit.
Ji Mingxue naturally chased after her. “Enough! Ji Mingxue, do not pull at me in public!”
The Omega crouched on the ground, burying her face in her hands and beginning to sob. She did not dare look up, for fear Ji Mingxue would see there were no tears. Ji Mingxue was terrified. She placed a hand on Song Shuangtian’s head.
“Tiantian, be good. Tell me what happened. Rest assured, I will handle everything.” She was luckier than most; she had the money to treat her wife and would always be by her side. Song Shuangtian was someone she could never let go of.
The wait was agonizing, as if her heart were being fried in a pan. People nearby thought they were acting strangely and walked around them. The pitiful Omega finally grasped at her last lifeline.
“I am pregnant.”
Ji Mingxue froze. Song Shuangtian savored the moment of blankness on her face. Excellent. For at least two or three weeks, Ji Mingxue would not bother her about marking.
Ji Mingxue was overjoyed. She wiped the imaginary tears from Song Shuangtian’s face. “Really? That is wonderful!”
She was ecstatic. Heaven had given her another chance to take care of her pregnant wife. She had missed everything the first time; this time, she would not miss a single moment.
