After Little Sweet Omega Runs with the Ball - Chapter 29
To almost any Alpha, the claim of being “incapable of marking” is a severe accusation. Some Alphas would even become paranoid if a partner so much as questioned their pheromone quality.
A person like Ji Mingxue, who went out of her way to volunteer such information, was truly a first for Song Shuangtian.
Song Shuangtian finished her meal in a state of complex emotions. Guanguan carefully pushed her small ice cream cake toward her mother.
“Mama, eat the cake.”
Song Shuangtian looked at the cake and sighed. So, Ji Mingxue really has been holding it in so long that she’s become a pervert?
Over the past four years, Song Shuangtian had done her best to avoid anything related to Ji Mingxue. She had even intentionally ignored the progress of ST Group. She hadn’t expected that after returning to the capital, she wouldn’t be able to escape after all.
“Does Mama not like the cake? QAQ” “Did Guanguan do something to make Mama unhappy? QAQ” “Guanguan knows she was wrong…”
Seeing Song Shuangtian remain silent for so long, the little girl’s eyes instantly turned red. She was actually most afraid of her mother. Usually, Mama had a good temper and was always smiling, but once she pulled a long face, the little cub felt her bottom ache.
Mama really would spank her. QAQ
Song Shuangtian: “…”
Song Shuangtian asked the question that many on the internet would scoff at. “Song Yuqing, do you like your Omega Mama more, or your Alpha Mother?”
Guanguan: “?”
The little girl with pigtails tilted her head. “Isn’t my Alpha Mother dead?”
Song Shuangtian: “…”
To curse so foully at such a young age.
Somewhere else, the currently-on-a-blind-date Ji Mingxue suddenly sneezed.
Song Shuangtian: “…Answer the question.”
Meeting her mother’s half-smiling gaze, the child swallowed hard, her body shrinking back. “I like my Omega Mama the most. Mama is the best Mama in the whole world.”
Song Shuangtian was satisfied and ruffled the cub’s hair.
Life is hard, Guanguan sighed to herself.
“I’m sorry, President Ji, I don’t see an appointment for you in our records.”
At the front desk of Reborn, Ji Mingxue was blocked. She couldn’t remember the last time she had been stopped from entering a building. Yet, in this situation, she didn’t dare pull rank.
The pampered Alpha stood in her high heels, her lipstick applied with meticulous precision. On her otherwise bare wrist, she wore the white magnolia bracelet Song Shuangtian had once designed, a clear case of trying to hide something by being obvious.
Ji Mingxue: “There is an appointment. Look carefully.”
The receptionist, Xiao Li, had beads of sweat on her forehead. Given Ji Mingxue’s status, she shouldn’t be stopping her, but as luck would have it, the big boss had strictly forbidden anyone resembling Ji Mingxue from entering.
It was… very strange. Like she was guarding against a thief.
Under the Alpha’s oppressive gaze, the receptionist flipped through the appointment list so fast it almost started smoking, but she still couldn’t find the name.
“President Ji?!” Yan Ying, passing by, hurried forward with a look of disbelief. Her face immediately shifted into a professional business smile. “What wind blew you here? Please, come in.”
“Xiao Li, really now, why would President Ji need an appointment?”
Yan Ying gave Xiao Li a pointed look. The receptionist, scolded by her director, lowered her head innocently.
Ji Mingxue curled her lip slightly. “The appointment procedure at M Group must have had an issue. It’s not her fault.”
“Welcome, President Ji. Please follow me.”
Every floor of Reborn was covered in sound-dampening carpets. High heels made no sound on the thick, soft surface. The air carried the faint scent of winter sweets.
“Is your President Song in?”
Yan Ying’s expression turned awkward for a moment. “I’m sorry, President Song has some matters to attend to today.”
To be precise, it was a parent-teacher meeting at the kindergarten. Song Shuangtian had been summoned. Normally, the meeting should have ended by now, but for some reason, the school had invited firefighters to give a safety talk, specifically advising children against climbing trees without safety equipment.
Yan Ying thought to herself: Do those little toddlers in kindergarten actually climb trees??
A flash of disappointment crossed Ji Mingxue’s eyes.
She was invited into the VIP lounge. Her goal today was to discuss a partnership between M Group and Reborn. Even if Song Shuangtian wasn’t there, it didn’t stop Ji Mingxue from proactively showing M Group’s sincerity.
If the mountain will not come to me, I will go to the mountain.
After the discussion ended, Ji Mingxue leaned back on the sofa in the lounge, showing no intention of leaving.
Yan Ying had said everything there was to say. Her throat was dry; she took a sip of cold water and spread the documents out on the coffee table. She had sent countless messages to Song Shuangtian in private, but hadn’t received a single reply.
“You don’t need to worry about me. Go back to your work.”
Yan Ying was momentarily choked for words. “Alright, President Ji. If you have any questions, please contact me.”
Once Yan Ying left the lounge, the Alpha was left alone. Outside, night was falling. Reborn’s office building was not far from the city center, and the silhouette of the M Group building could be seen in the distance.
Ji Mingxue looked out the window. In this space, she detected the faint, almost imperceptible scent of an Omega’s pheromones.
The scent of orange blossoms permeated every corner of the company. Perhaps because Ji Mingxue hadn’t been immersed in Song Shuangtian’s pheromones for so long, her sensitivity to this scent was beyond that of a normal person.
Inhibitors only treated the symptoms, not the cause. If she didn’t come into contact with Song Shuangtian’s scent, she was fine, but once she did, the defense built by the inhibitors collapsed instantly.
Her body began to burn. Her hands shook so much she couldn’t even hold her phone steadily.
Ji Mingxue leaned weakly against the sofa. If anyone had seen her, they would have called an ambulance immediately. The air conditioner hummed, blowing cold air, but Ji Mingxue’s back was soaked in cold sweat. Her fingers were unnaturally pale.
“Song Shuangtian.”
If she could wait for her, if Song Shuangtian would just give her a bit of pheromones, she might be able to get through this. But Song Shuangtian probably didn’t want to see her…
Ji Mingxue suppressed the madness in her eyes. The Alpha knew that coming to her door like this was undignified, but her body was out of control; she wanted to be near her.
The Alpha even thought spitefully: Song Shuangtian seduced me on purpose back then. Didn’t she have the psychological preparation to take responsibility for me?
“Wicked little liar.”
Song Shuangtian left the child in the car; she was going into the company to grab a laptop she’d forgotten. Before she even reached the lobby, Yan Ying hurried over.
“The cooperation plan from M Group is very sincere. You should take a look.”
Song Shuangtian’s pupils shook. “Wait, why would M Group suddenly…”
Didn’t I refuse?
Yan Ying smiled radiantly. “President Ji of M Group came personally today. She didn’t bring anyone with her. She probably wanted to catch up with you. She didn’t expect you’d have other matters today. She’s still in the lounge.”
Hearing the first half, Song Shuangtian lost her breath; hearing the second half, she took a step back.
# Is it too late to turn and run? #
Song Shuangtian stared at Yan Ying, trying to find any sign of a joke. Yan Ying’s smile grew more excited and sincere. “So, are you considering the partnership?”
Song Shuangtian thought: I’m considering a funeral. If Ji Mingxue didn’t skin her alive, it would only be because she had high social standards. Song Shuangtian massaged her aching temples, thinking: Is there any way to knock Ji Mingxue out and throw her out of the company?
In the end, she couldn’t bring herself to actually make Guanguan a child of a single-parent home.
The doors to the lounge were tightly closed. Song Shuangtian stood before them, her palms slick with cold sweat. She wasn’t sure if it was because she was too familiar with Ji Mingxue’s scent, but she could smell the faint traces of white magnolia in the air.
“Ji Mingxue…”
Why can’t we just leave each other alone?
Song Shuangtian pressed her temples again and pushed the door open softly.
Ji Mingxue was leaning on the sofa, asleep—or rather, she had passed out. The Alpha’s face was unnaturally red, her body feverish. She was sweating, and her long hair was messily stuck to her forehead. Rampant pheromones were clashing everywhere; the sharp scent of white magnolia filled Song Shuangtian’s nose.
“Water,” Ji Mingxue murmured in her haze.
Once an Alpha’s pheromones go into crisis, one must immediately call emergency services or have a high-match Omega release pheromones to soothe them. Sensing the presence of water at her lips, Ji Mingxue instinctively began to swallow.
One glass, two glasses. It wasn’t until she drank three and a half glasses of cold water that she eased slightly.
“Are you in a lot of pain?”
Song Shuangtian put her laptop down and sat cross-legged on the carpet. she used her phone to tell the driver to take the child home first.
Ji Mingxue’s eyes welled with physiological tears. Sensing Song Shuangtian’s presence, she acted like a giant cat, nuzzling her cheek against Song Shuangtian’s hand.
It hurt so much. It was so hot.
Ever since Ji Mingxue presented as an Alpha, she hadn’t found a compatible inhibitor. She could only use massive doses, the side effects of which were unbearable for a normal person.
Song Shuangtian slowly released her pheromones. She had no intention of letting the famous President Ji die in her office.
The Omega pheromones wrapped around the Alpha. The orange blossom scent enveloped her body as if it were a living thing, flowing over the skin of her palms.
Ji Mingxue’s mouth unconsciously let out a sigh. “Song Shuangtian?”
Mentally clouded, Ji Mingxue instinctively moved closer to the dense scent, pressing her entire body against Song Shuangtian. On the shag carpet, Song Shuangtian was pinned beneath the Alpha.
Her hand patted Ji Mingxue’s shoulder, soothing her just like she soothed Guanguan. “Alright, it’s okay. Don’t be in pain anymore.”
For the sake of you turning down that blind date, I’m not mad at you. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to work for you. You’re too much of a workaholic. Keeping a lover and still making her work on projects day and night, are you sick?
Ji Mingxue nestled against Song Shuangtian, burying her head in the crook of her neck.
“Shuangtian, I missed you so much.”
A complex look flashed in Song Shuangtian’s eyes.
“Guanguan missed you a lot, too.”
In the quiet room, Song Shuangtian gave her pheromones generously until Ji Mingxue’s body temperature returned to normal. She fell into a deep sleep, her long hair spilling over Song Shuangtian’s ear.
For a moment, the atmosphere was truly one of intimate tenderness.
Two hours later.
Song Shuangtian emerged from the meeting room and scrolled through her phone’s blacklist until she found a specific number.
“Hello, Lu Xing? Come and drag your President Ji away.”
When Lu Xing arrived at the scene, she found Song Shuangtian casually playing on her phone at the front desk. Seeing her arrive, Song Shuangtian barely looked up.
“You came alone?”
Lu Xing nodded.
Without stopping her scrolling, Song Shuangtian shouted toward the back, “Auntie!”
The cleaning lady dropped her broom and ran over. Song Shuangtian jerked her chin toward the lounge. “The two of you go to the meeting room and drag Ji Mingxue out. Oh, right, there’s a stretcher in the utility room.”
Lu Xing: “?” Lu Xing: “!!!”
Song Shuangtian had released an excessive amount of pheromones and was so exhausted she didn’t want to lift a single finger. Once she saw Ji Mingxue being laboriously hoisted into the car by the two women, she slapped M Group’s cooperation proposal onto Lu Xing’s chest.
“We’ll talk about the partnership later. I’m not satisfied with the terms inside.”
If Yan Ying had heard this, her jaw would have hit the floor. Every single clause in that document was biased in favor of Reborn. One would think M Group was begging for the collaboration.
Lu Xing wasn’t surprised by the rejection. She nodded and tucked away the generous proposal. Song Shuangtian gave Lu Xing a small smile, and the latter returned a polite one.
“You’re saying I fainted at Reborn yesterday?”
Ji Mingxue opened her eyes in her own bed. The sun was already high in the sky. Lu Xing was leaning back on the sofa next to the bed, working on her laptop. Since Lu Xing had a key to Ji Mingxue’s house, her presence wasn’t a shock.
“Your pheromones were abnormal. It’s a miracle you didn’t end up in the ICU last night, President Ji.”
Ji Mingxue: “.” “I saw Song Shuangtian yesterday.”
Lu Xing: “Mm.”
Ji Mingxue looked over at Lu Xing, only to see her attention remained fixed on her laptop screen. “Don’t you have anything else to say?”
Lu Xing’s eyes shifted from the screen to Ji Mingxue behind her gold-rimmed glasses. “Yesterday, Song Shuangtian had me and a cleaning lady put you on a stretcher to carry you out of Reborn.”
Surprise.
Ji Mingxue’s pupils contracted. Her last lingering memory was sensing the Omega pheromones from Song Shuangtian’s body, followed by a warm, chaotic darkness, as if she were back in a womb, comfortable enough to completely relax.
Ji Mingxue propped herself up with a throbbing headache. Lu Xing turned the laptop around to face her and clicked play on a video from a chat with Song Shuangtian.
“Song Shuangtian asked me to show you this once you woke up.”
Ji Mingxue rubbed her sore eyes. Squinting at the overly bright screen, she saw the familiar goatskin sofa and shag carpet of the lounge. The footage was high-definition.
In the video, the Alpha was first seen leaning against the floor-to-ceiling window watching the night view. After about ten minutes, she suddenly winced in pain, her body collapsing onto the sofa. Then, under waves of heat, her body curled up unnaturally.
She bit her dry lips, shivering between hot and cold. Her skin turned a frightening deathly pale before flushing red. Finally, when Song Shuangtian arrived, the Alpha showed no restraint whatsoever, pressing her entire face against the Omega’s hand.
Ji Mingxue watched herself rub her face against the Omega’s hand and, seemingly unsatisfied, lunge her entire body onto the Omega, pinning Song Shuangtian to the carpet. Song Shuangtian appeared to helplessly pat her shoulder, as if soothing a child.
Ji Mingxue: “.”
Lu Xing: “Do you want to see the second half?”
The second half was the footage of Lu Xing and the cleaning lady hoisting her onto the stretcher. Ji Mingxue had zero curiosity about seeing herself humiliated further. She waved her hand and struggled out of bed to wash up.
Ji Mingxue didn’t regret yesterday’s vulnerability. She knew now that her Song Shuangtian didn’t truly want her gone, nor had she disappeared from her world. Song Shuangtian still had a soft heart for her; she had released rich pheromones to soothe her. This realization put Ji Mingxue in an exceptionally good mood.
Later that day, Ji Mingxue was driving while humming a song. Suddenly, she slammed on the brakes.
Lu Xing looked up. “What happened?”
Ji Mingxue acted as if she had just remembered something. She grabbed Lu Xing’s laptop and pulled up the video. “What Song Shuangtian is wearing on her wrist…”
Lu Xing zoomed in on the screenshot. “It’s a jade bracelet.”
The two looked at each other. Lu Xing realized, “It’s the jade bracelet you lost in that small southwestern town.”
Ji Mingxue pursed her lips. She knew Song Shuangtian couldn’t have stolen it; Song Shuangtian didn’t even know the history of that bracelet. It could only be that she had lost it and Song Shuangtian happened to find it.
Lu Xing didn’t know the origin of the piece. “Destiny, perhaps? Does Song Shuangtian still have feelings for you?”
Otherwise, who would wear a bracelet lost by an ex?
Ji Mingxue was momentarily speechless, her emotions complex. Finally, her eyes flickered as she stepped on the gas toward the office. Let’s just say she still has feelings. It proved the Omega still had her in her heart.
For the next month, Ji Mingxue continuously revised the cooperation terms with Reborn. Of course, none of them passed Reborn’s audit. Ji Mingxue wasn’t annoyed; M Group had plenty of capital to make an offer tempting.
Anyone with eyes could see that Song Shuangtian was naturally at odds with M Group. Even when the company sent senior executives or Ji Mingxue herself, they were met with a cold shoulder. Yet Ji Mingxue never got angry despite the endless rejections. Seeing her bracelet on Song Shuangtian’s left wrist from a distance miraculously soothed all her irritation.
One evening, Ji Mingxue drove to a high-end supermarket in a nearby shopping district. The Alpha usually didn’t have time to shop, but M Group wasn’t too busy lately, allowing her to rest.
Under the dim yellow streetlights, Ji Mingxue’s luxury black car was hidden in the darkness of the parking lot. At the edge of her vision, a familiar figure emerged from the supermarket carrying several large bags.
Ji Mingxue froze. As the person drew closer, her breath nearly stopped. It was Song Shuangtian.
Ji Mingxue’s throat moved. Her car windows were one-way; standing outside, one couldn’t see in. The night wind was chilly, and Song Shuangtian was dressed thinly. She was carrying large shopping bags in both hands, stuffed to the brim with… children’s snacks and toys.
The supermarket was a distance from the parking lot. Ji Mingxue could clearly see the plastic bags digging into Song Shuangtian’s hands, turning them red. Her hand was already on the door handle, ready to go out and help her carry the items to the car. She wouldn’t mind driving her home.
Then, a bag gave way, and a can of milk powder fell to the ground.
Yes, a can of milk powder.
Ji Mingxue’s gaze suddenly sharpened. “Children’s milk powder?”
Along with the bag, various toys scattered on the ground: Barbie dolls, stuffed dogs, building blocks.
Ji Mingxue felt her blood run cold. Why was Song Shuangtian buying milk powder and toys?
“A gift?”
She tried to convince herself Song Shuangtian was buying them for a friend’s child, but was that believable?
Suddenly, a car door nearby opened and Yuan Yin trotted out. “Oh, why didn’t you tell me? If I’d known, I would have driven right to the supermarket entrance to pick you up.”
Song Shuangtian bent down to pick up a stuffed dog, patting the dust off it. “It’s fine, it was just a few steps.”
Song Shuangtian complained, “The kindergarten wants the kids to bring toys for sharing tomorrow. I was busy during the day and didn’t see the message. Thanks for coming out.”
Guanguan didn’t have many toys—mostly Lego models she had already built, and she was naturally unwilling to take those to school to share.
Ji Mingxue, sitting in the car, couldn’t hear the details of their conversation. She only saw that Yuan Yin was an Alpha and Song Shuangtian was an Omega, and the two were smiling as they picked up the scattered toys and milk powder.
Between them… they had a child?
A bucket of ice-cold water seemed to pour over Ji Mingxue’s head. She sat silently, watching Song Shuangtian and Yuan Yin load the bags into the back seat and drive away together. Long after the car had vanished, she couldn’t snap out of it.
Is Yuan Yin married?
Clearly not. They were in the same social circle; if there was any news like that, everyone would know. The relationship between Yuan Yin and He Yanyan was public knowledge, and Yuan Yin never hid it from anyone.
So Song Shuangtian was willingly staying with Yuan Yin like this? Ji Mingxue’s heart felt as if it were being squeezed by an unknown force until it was bloody and raw.
In the car, Yuan Yin sneezed. “It’s really cold today.”
He Yanyan sat anxiously in a cafe, a sweet-smelling mango crepe cake by her side.
“President Ji, did you need something from me?”
Since returning to the capital, He Yanyan often went to Song Shuangtian’s house to help look after Guanguan. The child was very attached to her. She never expected that one day she would be invited for a meeting by Ji Mingxue.
Ji Mingxue suppressed the observation in her eyes. She had barely slept lately, and her face held an irrepressible obsession. “You know Song Shuangtian?”
He Yanyan felt like she was sitting on pins and needles. “I do.”
She had even helped deliver the baby.
Ji Mingxue: “…Has she lived well these past few years?”
Ji Mingxue knew asking a “rival” such a question was foolish, but she had nowhere else to get information.
“To be honest… not exactly well.”
A single mother taking care of a child was naturally not easy, especially while balancing work. Song Shuangtian’s competence was something even He Yanyan and Yuan Yin marveled at. If she didn’t make money, no one would.
Ji Mingxue felt a stab in her heart. She understood the reason Song Shuangtian was with Yuan Yin. They had grown up as childhood friends; even though Song Shuangtian had long believed she was an Alpha, she ultimately wasn’t. But Yuan Yin was a genuine Alpha. In their daily lives, it was inevitable that Yuan Yin would develop feelings for her.
“Song Shuangtian… has her own child?”
Ji Mingxue knew Song Shuangtian’s body didn’t conceive easily; she assumed Song Shuangtian and Yuan Yin had adopted one together.
He Yanyan was stunned. “President Ji, you know already?”
Ji Mingxue: “…I know. When are Song Shuangtian and Yuan Yin getting engaged?”
Ji Mingxue sat in the shadows. When it came to raising a child, she was certain she could provide better resources than Yuan Yin. Since they weren’t engaged yet, there was still room to maneuver.
He Yanyan: “????”
What?
