After Little Sweet Omega Runs with the Ball - Chapter 28
Ji Mingxue slammed the accelerator to the floor, and the car let out a low roar as it shot forward.
Song Shuangtian.
She really had returned.
Ji Mingxue’s gaze was locked onto the flickering taillights in the distance. Her brain was completely dominated by the impulse to see Song Shuangtian. Even the air seemed to be filled with a hallucinatory scent of orange blossoms, the unique scent of that Omega.
Song Shuangtian, Song Shuangtian.
Ji Mingxue repeated the name over and over in her mind. She wanted to see her so badly. Even her actions regarding the ST Group carried a childish desire to get Song Shuangtian’s attention. It was like a child acting out in various ways just to get an adult to notice them and offer some care.
The Alpha wanted to gain Song Shuangtian’s attention by making the ST Group flourish while relentlessly suppressing the Song family. Even Ji Mingxue herself thought this behavior was immature, but what did it matter?
Ji Mingxue just wanted the Omega to notice her again. She didn’t want to spend another agonizing rut alone. Not even one more.
In the driver’s seat of the car ahead, Song Shuangtian was scared out of her wits.
Yuan Yin, sitting in the passenger seat, stared at the rearview mirror in utter shock.
“Your old lover is really chasing us.”
Song Shuangtian was numb with fear from the car behind them. “She and I are not ‘old lovers.'”
Yuan Yin: “Not old lovers, then. Former boss, right?”
Song Shuangtian felt that title wasn’t much better; it only added a certain workplace-related bad taste to the situation.
Two headlights cut through the darkness. Song Shuangtian passed through a green light, made a sudden U-turn, and immediately cut her lights, darting into a narrow alleyway. She wasn’t familiar with the terrain here, but she knew Ji Mingxue would continue straight along the main road.
“Pretty sister! Pretty sister! I want the pretty sister!”
Guanguan, in the back seat, giggled happily. “Is Mama playing hide-and-seek with the pretty sister?”
Song Shuangtian: “.”
If her hands hadn’t been occupied with the steering wheel, she wouldn’t have been able to resist giving this silly child a “corrective” pat.
Yuan Yin struggled to hold back her laughter. “Yes, it’s hide-and-seek. We can’t let the pretty sister find us.”
The three-year-old didn’t understand the complexities of adult relationships. She peered through the window with her clear eyes, watching the scenery recede. At the edge of her vision, a black sedan sped straight ahead, completely failing to notice the alley.
Disappointment showed in Guanguan’s eyes. The pretty sister hadn’t found them. The pretty sister wasn’t smart at all. She had lost her chance to have her face gently wiped by the pretty sister. QAQ
“But I want to see the pretty sister.” Guanguan slumped dejectedly against the seat. “The pretty sister smells so good, just like that white magnolia tree Mama planted in front of the window.”
At those words, even Yuan Yin’s eyes flickered. She looked at Song Shuangtian with a complex expression, then at the child who instinctively wanted to be close to her Alpha mother. Yuan Yin didn’t speak, but Song Shuangtian knew exactly what she was thinking.
Exiting the alley, Song Shuangtian turned the lights back on. She had already stopped on a different road.
“We’ll see.” “I’m not ready yet.”
Song Shuangtian’s hands on the wheel trembled slightly. Her palms were slick with cold sweat, and her body couldn’t stop shaking. Her back was covered in a cold chill.
The Omega’s pheromones suddenly spiraled out of control, and a rich scent of orange blossoms instantly filled the confined space of the car. The Omega pressed her forehead against the steering wheel, looking like a butterfly buffeted by a gale, finally finding a place to rest.
Yuan Yin didn’t rush her to drive. She simply patted Song Shuangtian’s shoulder.
The Omega closed her eyes. Enduring the scattered pheromones in her body, she reached into the storage compartment with one hand, pulled out an inhibitor, and skillfully injected it into her muscle. As the cool liquid was absorbed, a trace of clarity returned to Song Shuangtian’s dazed eyes.
It had been too long since she had felt this kind of soul-shaking intensity; it was as if every cell in her body had been forced open.
Ji Mingxue is like a damn mad dog. I gave her the ST Group already, what more does she want?
Song Shuangtian cursed under her breath and let Yuan Yin drive for the rest of the trip. Song Shuangtian leaned back into the rear seat and pulled Guanguan close to her.
She couldn’t exactly walk up to Ji Mingxue right now and say, “Listen, Ji Mingxue, I had a baby for you.” Just thinking about that scene gave Song Shuangtian goosebumps.
Ji Mingxue drove straight until she almost reached the city limits, but she never found Song Shuangtian again.
“Song Shuangtian.”
Parking by the roadside, Ji Mingxue took large gulps of the cool air, her eyes fixed on the darkness ahead.
“Song Shuangtian, I’ve found you.”
Ji Mingxue wiped the sweat from her forehead. The adrenaline rush made her feel like she was floating.
Song Shuangtian.
Ji Mingxue closed her eyes exhaustedly, leaning against the seat. Inside her chest, her heart pounded, pumping hot blood through her body.
I will find you. Reborn, is it?
The jewelry design circle is small. Most colleagues run into each other eventually. A faint smile touched Ji Mingxue’s lips.
“We will meet again.”
The Alpha opened the car door and leaned lazily against the hood. She skillfully pulled a cigarette and held it between her lips but didn’t light it.
When Lu Xing drove up, she saw the Alpha by the desolate highway, eyes closed and resting. Although she still maintained the dignity of a corporate ruler, her aura made her look a bit like a large dog that had failed at courtship.
Lu Xing’s eye twitched. “The exchange hasn’t even ended yet. Are we going back?” “What kind of madness was that just now? Do you know how many traffic tickets you’re going to get?”
More than boss and subordinate, the two were like friends who had known each other for years.
Ji Mingxue’s eyes were dark. “Song Shuangtian has returned to the capital.”
At those words, Lu Xing froze behind her gold-rimmed glasses. “Song Shuangtian?”
Ji Mingxue: “Mm.”
As the night wind blew against their clothes, Lu Xing spoke rationally. “That’s perfect. Song Shuangtian came to M Group as a mole before. Now that she’s back in the capital, I can finally sue her.”
Ji Mingxue looked at Lu Xing in surprise.
“Shouldn’t we? She deceived your body, your heart, and even stole company secrets. M Group’s legal department has been idle for a long time.”
Ji Mingxue tossed the unlit cigarette into a nearby trash can. “I have no intention of suing her.”
Lu Xing was right. If it were any other industrial spy or company, Ji Mingxue could certainly use any means, fair or foul, to make them pay. But Song Shuangtian?
Firstly, Ji Mingxue felt she owed Song Shuangtian. Secondly, Ji Mingxue really wanted to pin that little liar against a car and bite her hard. She wanted to inject all her accumulated Alpha pheromones into the Omega’s delicate gland until she cried, screamed, and begged for mercy. She wanted to tear off those pearl necklaces and make her curl up in her arms just like before.
She wanted Song Shuangtian to know that M Group wasn’t a place she could just come and go as she pleased.
“I will handle Song Shuangtian’s matters myself. Don’t do anything unnecessary. And wipe that ‘watching a drama’ expression off your face.”
“Understood, President Ji.”
# The depressed big dog is finally back to normal. # # The boss has a look in her eyes that signals a ‘No Entry’ zone for others. #
“You want me to cooperate with M Group? Are you crazy?”
Song Shuangtian had finished renting her new office space, taking over floors twenty through fifty of the building. Having passed the initial recruitment phase, the Reborn company was up and running.
Standing in the brand-new office, Song Shuangtian faced her newly hired Director, Yan Ying.
Yan Ying held a report in her hand. “Yes. Looking at the current development of the company, a partnership with M Group would maximize our interests. M Group has an outstanding record in high-end watches and jewelry; they are a top-tier global brand, and their headquarters is also here in the capital.”
Song Shuangtian knew M Group better than Yan Ying did. Listening to this made her head throb. She felt a sudden urge to fire this woman and find a new Director.
Yan Ying looked up at her boss. “You don’t want to cooperate with M Group? As far as I know, the current person in charge of M Group is Ji Mingxue. She acquired ST Group three years ago and has developed it very well. It’s clear she has excellent vision and decision-making skills.”
Song Shuangtian swallowed a mouthful of plain water. “Are there no other options?”
The Omega chewed on the ice cubes in her water, the cubes making a cracking sound against her teeth. Song Shuangtian was also “cracking.”
Yan Ying, completely unaware of Song Shuangtian’s subtle emotions, spread the documents out on the new boss’s desk.
“President Song, look.” Yan Ying flipped to a page. “A representative from M Group contacted me yesterday saying they are interested in investing in Reborn and seeking mutual development. I believe it’s worth a discussion.”
Song Shuangtian’s mouth twitched. “There is absolutely nothing to discuss.”
Yan Ying frowned. Her new boss didn’t seem like an arrogant or impulsive person who made decisions based on a whim, but Song Shuangtian’s attitude was truly strange. “Do you have some kind of concern?”
Song Shuangtian thought to herself: I have plenty of concerns. I’m afraid of being devoured by Ji Mingxue.
Seeing Song Shuangtian’s refusal, Yan Ying didn’t push further. She pulled a business card from the folder and pushed it toward Song Shuangtian. The gold-embossed card had only a name and a contact number on it, with no other information.
Ji Mingxue Contact Number: …
Yan Ying: “This card was given to me by Director Lu of M Group.”
Song Shuangtian: “You mean Lu Xing?”
Yan Ying: “Yes. Director Lu mentioned that her boss is looking forward to having dinner with you.”
Song Shuangtian thought: Her boss is looking forward to something else entirely. Just hearing Ji Mingxue’s name made her glands start to itch.
“I won’t see her! That scumbag Alpha, Ji Mingxue, is up to no good.”
For the sake of her brand’s bright future, Song Shuangtian didn’t want anything to do with Ji Mingxue ever again. Why couldn’t they just stay out of each other’s way? She didn’t want to get involved with Ji Mingxue’s… appetites. Is Ji Mingxue even human? She’s just pheromones in human shape.
Song Shuangtian discussed the next phase of Reborn’s new products with Yan Ying. Song Shuangtian had recently received an order from a European royal family, so she needed to spend a lot of time daily supervising the designers. If necessary, she might even need to go on a business trip to Europe.
Reborn offered salaries 1.5 to 2 times higher than other companies, so they naturally attracted top-tier talent, meaning Song Shuangtian didn’t have to worry too much.
Head thumping from design drafts, Song Shuangtian suddenly received a call. Thinking it was work-related, she tapped the screen and put it on speaker on the desk.
“Hello? Is this Song Yuqing’s mother?”
An anxious female voice rang out. The people in the design department all looked up.
Before Song Shuangtian could even speak, the voice on the other end continued: “I’m sorry to bother you, but your child refused to nap at noon and colluded with other children to sneak out to the playground to climb trees.”
Colluded…
Song Shuangtian understood every word, but put together, she didn’t know what they meant.
“Climbing trees?”
“Yes, she climbed a London plane tree about two stories high. The school has already contacted the fire department. We hope you can come as soon as possible to calm the child down.”
Song Shuangtian: “?”
A collective gasp echoed through the design department.
Song Shuangtian: “Wait, you mean Guanguan is still up in the tree right now???”
The employees watched as their young boss, still in her high heels, grabbed her bag and sprinted out the door.
When Song Shuangtian arrived at the kindergarten and looked up, she saw two small children standing amidst the lush green leaves of the plane tree. One was laughing, and the other was crying. The one crying was another poor child Guanguan had dragged along to skip nap time.
The mother of the other child had already arrived. A frail Omega wearing a long knitted dress, she stood with her head down, sobbing uncontrollably.
This was the first time Song Shuangtian had ever had to apologize so humbly. She bowed repeatedly in apology as the other mother, hearing her child’s muffled wails, looked ready to faint from terror.
The fire department’s ladder was propped up against the tree. When Guanguan saw her mother arrive, she smiled brightly and waved a tiny paw.
“Mama, Mama! If I stand up here, I can see where you work!”
Guanguan’s crisp, cheerful voice made it almost impossible to stay angry. But as she shifted her weight, the entire tree swayed. A shower of leaves drifted down onto Song Shuangtian’s head.
Song Shuangtian suppressed her fury. “Don’t move. The uncles are coming to save you.”
Guanguan stared longingly at her mother. “But Guanguan missed Mama.”
Because she missed her mother, she climbed to a high place so she could see her. Her friend said she missed her mother too, so Guanguan brought her along for the climb.
Just as the firefighter approached and took the sobbing, nearly-fainting child into his arms, Guanguan’s body suddenly wobbled. Everyone on the scene felt their hearts leap into their throats.
Air cushions had been laid out on the ground, so logically a fall shouldn’t have been fatal, but seeing that tiny, fragile body fall would still strike terror into anyone’s heart.
However, Guanguan scrambled down the tree with incredible agility. Her movements were like a little monkey’s.
A perfect landing. If there were a tree-climbing competition, Guanguan would surely take first place.
Guanguan stood before Song Shuangtian with a face practically begging for praise.
Song Shuangtian clenched her fists, her smile forced into perfection. “Our little cub is truly amazing, isn’t she? Climbing such a high tree. Even Mama can’t climb that high. Is my cub the most powerful cub in the whole world?”
The more beautifully Song Shuangtian smiled, the more terrified Guanguan became. Scary Mama.
Song Shuangtian let out a cold huff and turned to comfort the child the firefighters had rescued. That child refused to let Song Shuangtian touch her, pouncing into her own mother’s arms like a little leopard. After Song Shuangtian’s polite and sincere apologies, the other mother wiped her eyes and softly indicated that it was alright.
Once the other parent and child had left, Song Shuangtian let out a breath of relief.
“Song Yuqing!”
Fuming with anger, Song Shuangtian hauled the child over her knee in front of everyone and gave her several sharp swats on the bottom. Guanguan began to wail heart-wrenchingly.
“Waaaaah!”
Huge teardrops splashed onto the ground. Even the teacher, who had been fuming with anxiety moments ago, could hardly bear to watch.
“Please calm down, it’s not entirely the child’s fault.”
Song Shuangtian’s palm didn’t land that hard on the clothed bottom, but for Guanguan, who had always been pampered by her family, this was a bolt from the blue.
“Does Mama not love Guanguan anymore?”
Facing Guanguan’s weak inquiry, Song Shuangtian’s teeth itched with rage. This little girl with her two pigtails hadn’t cried while stuck in the tree, yet she cried now from the scolding.
“Guanguan just missed Mama. QAQ” The girl with pigtails hugged her mother’s leg tightly. “Guanguan wanted to see where Mama works. QAQ”
Song Shuangtian suppressed her lingering anxiety and bowed to apologize to the teacher. She suspected she had used up her entire lifetime’s quota of bowing in this single hour.
“Song Yuqing, go apologize to the teacher.”
Guanguan initially held a stubborn “I did nothing wrong” stance, but seeing the cold smile in her mother’s eyes, she immediately lost her nerve.
Song Shuangtian mouthed silently: No ice cream, cake, or lollipops for six months.
Guanguan: !!!
The little girl with pigtails and a flushed, tear-stained face imitated her mother and gave a ninety-degree bow.
“Teacher, I was wrong. I will never climb trees again. QAQ”
The teacher had never seen such a soft, adorable child. Her previous anxiety was real, but her current softened heart was also real. The cub was clearly raised with indulgence, yet she lacked the bad habits of children who threw tantrums for no reason.
As the mother, Song Shuangtian had clearly rushed over from her office.
“Baby, you can’t climb trees next time, okay?” The teacher accepted the apology.
Guanguan gave a shy smile and pulled a candy from her pocket. “Teacher, have a candy.”
Since you ate my candy, you can’t be mad at Guanguan next time.
Song Shuangtian: “…”
The older Guanguan grew, the more Song Shuangtian could see Ji Mingxue’s features in her eyes. Thinking of how Ji Mingxue was likely enjoying fine food and drink in a spacious office while she was dealing with this, Song Shuangtian’s fists tightened.
Before they left, the teacher looked concerned. “Children naturally have a desire to explore. Don’t hit her when you get home.”
Song Shuangtian’s smile widened. “Of course.”
The teacher felt a sudden shiver.
The teacher didn’t know what Guanguan went through at home; she only knew that Guanguan wore a long face for a very long time after that. However, from that day on, it was no longer the nanny who picked her up, but Song Shuangtian herself. Perhaps Guanguan really did climb the tree because she missed her mother.
Song Shuangtian was busy these days, taking time out to pick up the child and then bringing her back to the office to finish work. They often didn’t leave the company until nearly nine at night. Guanguan was very good, staying in the lounge playing with toys or reading picture books.
The little girl with pigtails stayed on the same floor as Song Shuangtian. General employees didn’t have contact with her, but the few who did see her couldn’t get enough of her.
“Mama will take you out for a big dinner tonight, okay?” After cruelly stripping the cub of her rights to ice cream and candy, Song Shuangtian felt a pang of guilt seeing her moping every day.
Guanguan’s eyes lit up as she played with blocks. “Okay!”
The little girl trotted to Song Shuangtian’s side and climbed onto her back like a kitten climbing a tree.
Song Shuangtian: “…”
Song Shuangtian took the child to a private kitchen restaurant that only accepted regular customers. She used to eat here frequently when she was at ST Group; she didn’t need to book a month in advance and could order directly upon arrival.
The restaurant had a serene environment. Guanguan followed Song Shuangtian with her short legs.
“Mama, it smells so good here.”
Song Shuangtian paused. “What?” She could only smell the bamboo incense of the restaurant.
“I smell the tree in front of the nursing home window!”
The scent of white magnolia… Song Shuangtian’s mouth twitched. She couldn’t smell it, but a child’s sensitivity to their parents’ pheromones was incredibly high.
Song Shuangtian brought Guanguan to a private booth. The dishes had already been served, all of which were kid-friendly and slightly sweet. Song Shuangtian made an excuse to go to the restroom and hurried out of the booth.
The booths here were not fully enclosed but separated by semi-transparent wooden screens. If someone spoke slightly louder, they could be heard from the doorway. For important business banquets, people went to the fully enclosed rooms.
Where Ji Mingxue was currently sitting was clearly not one of those.
Through the hazy gauze curtain, Song Shuangtian saw Ji Mingxue for the first time in four years. The Alpha was as elegant and noble as ever; her mere presence seemed to make the entire space shine. Wearing a loose black suit, the Alpha half-closed her eyes, a glass of wine by her hand.
As Ji Mingxue tilted her head to drink, Song Shuangtian glimpsed a drop of wine trailing from the corner of her lip, sliding down her throat, and finally disappearing into her collar. Song Shuangtian bit her lip. She subconsciously gripped the bracelet on her left wrist.
“I’m sorry, I have no intention of dating recently.”
Oh, so it was a blind date. No matter how high one’s status, they couldn’t escape the fate of blind dates.
The girl opposite her was persistent despite the rejection. “My family is in the shipping business. A powerful alliance would surely not disappoint you.” From the back, the Omega appeared slender and delicate. Her voice was sweet and gentle; no Alpha could refuse her.
A shadow fell over Song Shuangtian’s eyes. She had given birth to this Alpha’s child in secret, while the mother of her child was on a blind date with another Omega. The “pretty sister” her child kept talking about didn’t remember her at all. It was all just wishful thinking on her and the child’s part.
“I’m sorry.” Ji Mingxue placed the empty glass on the table.
“There is a problem with my gland,” Ji Mingxue spoke as calmly as if discussing the weather. “My gland is disabled. I cannot go through a normal rut. In other words, I am incapable of marking. I have a hidden condition.”
Song Shuangtian: ???
You’re incapable of marking? Then where did my child come from?
The Omega opposite her: !!!
This kind of statement was the equivalent of a male Alpha admitting to impotence.
Ji Mingxue was very satisfied to see the look of shock and pity on the Omega’s face. She elegantly poured herself another glass of wine.
She thought to herself: Had Song Shuangtian lived like this for the past twenty years? Unable to enter heat normally, misidentifying herself as an Alpha, yet lacking an Alpha’s rut. With a defective gland, no matter how excellent she was, she could never obtain inheritance rights.
The Omega opposite her held onto one last hope. “Can it be cured?”
Ji Mingxue: “It cannot. My life is ruined.”
Song Shuangtian: “…”
You certainly have a lot of self-awareness.
Song Shuangtian finally understood why she hadn’t seen any scandals involving Ji Mingxue over the past four years. Remembering the fierce way Ji Mingxue had chased her car.
Holding it in for too long really does turn someone into a pervert.
