- Chapter 8 - Drunk
The car moved quietly along the winding mountain road.
This wasn’t the way back to Fang Qingying’s home, but rather to Gu Shengxiao’s place.
Fang Qingying had just finished speaking when she immediately sensed something off about Gu Shengxiao’s mood, so she quickly added, “But it’s a bit late today. Can I stay at Xiao Xiao’s place for now?”
The moment the words left her lips, Fang Qingying could clearly feel Gu Shengxiao’s mood brightening.
“Of course, you can.” Gu Shengxiao wrapped an arm around her waist and nodded eagerly. “I have unworn pajamas at my place. Would you like to try them, Xiao Ying?”
“Okay.” Fang Qingying gave a slight nod.
She wanted to move out of Gu Shengxiao’s embrace, but no matter how she struggled, she couldn’t free herself from the other’s hold. Pressing her lips together, Fang Qingying tentatively asked, “Xiao Xiao, can I move over there to sit?”
Gu Shengxiao glanced down at her. “You can, but be careful. The mountain road here is quite winding. Changing seats now could be dangerous.”
“Mhm, mhm.” Fang Qingying nodded and tried to shift her body.
Just as she was about to move, the car suddenly took a sharp turn. Losing her balance, Fang Qingying tumbled backward.
Seeing this, Gu Shengxiao swiftly pulled her back into her arms, letting her settle onto her lap.
Fang Qingying: “……” Words failed her. This was just awkward.
Gu Shengxiao asked worriedly, “Xiao Ying, are you okay?”
She shook her head. “Seems a bit risky, yeah.”
Now, she was even closer than before, her back pressed against something soft. Even the spot where she sat felt plush, and all around her was a lingering fragrance.
It was Gu Shengxiao’s signature cool scent, as if it were slowly enveloping her, marking her with its presence.
Meanwhile, the driver, silent but ever the wingman quietly gave himself a pat on the back. What an excellent assist.
Given that this was a mountain road, curves were inevitable, but it was also perfectly safe. The scenario Gu Shengxiao had described was hardly possible, which was precisely why she needed a little help!
A seasoned driver knows exactly how to steer the situation~
Fortunately, Fang Qingying wasn’t particularly tall. Otherwise, even nestled in Gu Shengxiao’s arms, she might have felt her head bumping against the car roof.
Whether the road had smoothed out or Fang Qingying had simply exhausted herself from all the fussing, she didn’t know.
Gently, she leaned against Gu Shengxiao’s shoulder and, without realizing it, closed her eyes.
Her face was nestled near Gu Shengxiao’s neck, and each breath she took sent warm puffs of air against the skin there, creating a tingling sensation.
Gu Shengxiao’s lashes lowered slightly, her gaze brimming with affection for Fang Qingying. The sight of her sleeping so peacefully was unbearably sweet, making Gu Shengxiao’s heart flutter with the desire to watch her sleep forever.
Only when she was asleep would Fang Qingying not resist anything she did.
After a moment, Gu Shengxiao lifted her eyes to the scenery outside the window and said coolly, “Slow down.”
If she could spend even a minute longer with her, she wouldn’t give up a single second.
But no matter how slowly the car moved, the journey would eventually come to an end.
“Miss, we’ve arrived,” the driver murmured in a hushed tone.
He parked the car in the garage and, seeing Gu Shengxiao make no move to get out, decisively set the keys down and made a quick exit.
The car hadn’t been stopped for long when Fang Qingying showed signs of waking up. Gu Shengxiao sighed helplessly and said, “Xiao Ying, we’re at my place. Are you hungry? Should I make you something to eat?”
Like Fang Qingying, she hadn’t eaten dinner either. But she was used to eating just a little in the evening to sustain her body’s needs. She just wasn’t sure what Fang Qingying might want to eat.
People outside often marveled at Gu Shengxiao’s figure, but in reality, such a good physique was the result of daily exercise and strict dietary discipline.
Like most people, she could gain weight just by drinking water. Maintaining her current optimal figure was entirely due to her sheer willpower.
“Noodles~” Fang Qingying mumbled drowsily, her eyes half-open.
Then she draped both arms over Gu Shengxiao’s shoulders, gently hugging her neck, clearly very dependent on her.
“Alright,” Gu Shengxiao agreed unconditionally to her request. She carried Fang Qingying out of the car and walked toward the house.
Those who lived on this winding mountain road were either wealthy or powerful, it was like a specially designated affluent neighborhood.
The three-story villa came with a swimming pool the size of a basketball court and a small backyard garden. The decor was exquisite, exuding an elegant and minimalist style.
Gu Shengxiao didn’t like having too many people at home, so apart from the necessary hired help, the entire villa was usually occupied by just her.
But today, there was one more person.
Gu Shengxiao first placed Fang Qingying on the sofa, then put on an apron from the kitchen before heading to the double-door refrigerator to retrieve the ingredients she needed.
Even though she lived alone, the food in Gu Shengxiao’s fridge was always fresh, with nothing stored for more than three days.
While grabbing what she needed, she unexpectedly spotted a bottle of baijiu. Just as she was wondering if Yu Lu had left it there after her breakup the other day, she heard Fang Qingying call out again, “Hungry~”
This distracted Gu Shengxiao from further pondering the origins of the liquor.
Though she wasn’t a professional chef, she was at least no disaster in the kitchen. Making a simple bowl of noodles boiling water, adding some greens, cracking an egg, and finally dropping in the noodles was easy enough.
Gu Shengxiao moved fluidly as she cooked, but suddenly, she heard something fall to the ground.
Instinctively, she called out Fang Qingying’s name, but there was no response. Quickly wiping her hands, she turned off the stove, removed her apron, and rushed to the living room.
There, she found Fang Qingying sprawled on the floor, clutching what looked like a clear glass bottle, with the fridge door wide open.
Gu Shengxiao: “…”
Surely Fang Qingying hadn’t drunk the baijiu from the fridge?
But when she checked inside, the bottle was indeed missing.
With a soft sigh, she picked Fang Qingying up and placed her back on the sofa.
The girl was still gripping the liquor bottle tightly. Gu Shengxiao recognized it immediately as the baijiu and helplessly took it away, setting it on the table.
Fang Qingying’s cheeks were flushed from the alcohol, tinged a rosy hue like rouge, utterly captivating.
Pouting, she mumbled, “I was thirsty~”
Gu Shengxiao sighed. “So that’s why you chugged an entire bottle of baijiu?”
Good grief. She’d polished off a whole bottle by herself, who knew how intense the aftereffects would be?
“You’re being mean to me!” Fang Qingying reached out and grabbed Gu Shengxiao’s collar, shaking her head dizzily before pouting and whining, “Stop moving, there are so many Xiao Xiaos now~”
“Be good, let go. I’ll make you some sobering soup,” Gu Shengxiao said with a headache, gently holding Fang Qingying’s hand as she coaxed her.
Fang Qingying, completely ungrateful, continued to act spoiled. “Wahhh~ You were just mean to me!”
At first, she was fake-crying with little whimpers, but soon, the tears became real.
The thought of how she had been peacefully drawing manga at home, only to die from an electric shock and transmigrate into a novel, overwhelmed her.
And not just any novel, she had become a cannon-fodder side character who wouldn’t survive past three chapters, yet somehow had way too many scenes!
She was just so aggrieved.
The online comments had also made her feel wronged.
And now, being scolded by Gu Shengxiao made her even more no, infinitely more upset.
Seeing the tears rolling down Fang Qingying’s face, Gu Shengxiao’s heart ached. She gently wiped them away with a tissue before pulling her into a hug, patiently comforting her.
“It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have been mean to you. Xiao Ying is the most well-behaved little baby.”
“Mmm~ I’m hungry,” Fang Qingying said, sitting up straight and pursing her lips.
Her temper came and went like the wind.
Her small hand patted her stomach flat and empty. Clearly, she hadn’t eaten.
“I’ll bring out the noodles for you,” Gu Shengxiao said, her eyes softening with affection as she watched Fang Qingying’s childish antics.
No matter how Fang Qingying acted, she would always be her precious little darling.
The noodles, soaked in broth for so long, miraculously hadn’t turned mushy, something Gu Shengxiao found oddly relieving.
She set the bowl on the table, but the noodles were still steaming hot. Fang Qingying, impatient, immediately tried to grab them, startling Gu Shengxiao into pulling her back into her arms.
With the noodles right in front of her, how could Fang Qingying possibly stay put in Gu Shengxiao’s embrace?
She struggled to break free, but a drunk person had no strength to speak of.
After a few failed attempts, Fang Qingying’s eyes reddened at the corners. Sniffling, she whined in a tiny, milky voice, “Xiao Xiao~ I wanna eat noooodles~” So, let me go already!
Gu Shengxiao: “They’re too hot.”
Fang Qingying stubbornly insisted, “I don’t care, I want them now.”
Rubbing her temples, Gu Shengxiao compromised. “How about I feed you? If not, you’ll have to wait till they cool down.”
Fang Qingying nodded without hesitation. “Okay~”
Why complain when she was getting fed?
And so, the two of them took turns eating from the same bowl until every last noodle was gone.
Fang Qingying sprawled comfortably in Gu Shengxiao’s arms, not the slightest bit inclined to move. A soft, warm human pillow, how could she possibly let go?
Not only that, she nuzzled against Gu Shengxiao’s neck, her lips accidentally brushing against it.
Gu Shengxiao’s breath hitched, her gaze darkening as she unconsciously tightened her hold.
Her voice came out hoarse. “Xiao Ying, do you like Xiao Xiao?”
Just like before, when she would lie sweetly in her arms and say, “Xiao Ying likes Xiao Xiao the most~”
Fang Qingying thought for a moment before tilting her head up, revealing her cute little fangs. “Xiao Ying likes Xiao Xiao the most~”
Gu Shengxiao swallowed hard, leaning down to whisper by her ear, “Xiao Xiao likes Xiao Ying the most too~”
Meanwhile, the mysteriously blocked-out 888 was still contemplating the meaning of life.
It wondered how Fang Qingying could possibly know how to block its perception.
What was she doing?
