After I Transmigrated into the Novel, I made the Heroine Fall for Me - Chapter 50
Gu Shengxiao’s eyes sparkled with cunning, her dark lashes fluttering like tiny palm-leaf fans as the corners of her crimson lips curled upward.
Shen Lixie took in her smug expression, irritation rising within him. He leisurely tucked his glasses into his breast pocket, his sharp gaze fixed on her as he said, “The person, I want. The truth, I’ll uncover.”
In other words, there was no conflict between the two.
Gu Shengxiao shot him a cold glance. “Oh?”
The moment their eyes met, it was as if sparks of electricity crackled between them, locked in a fierce, unyielding battle.
Meanwhile, the object of their dispute, Fang Qingying, slept soundly, blissfully unaware of the battlefield around her.
“If you could earn Xiao Ying’s acknowledgment or confess the feelings you’ve kept buried in your heart, I might consider handing her over to you,” Shen Lixie chuckled, tapping his chest in a gesture that seemed to taunt Gu Shengxiao.
“But alas, you don’t dare. So why put on this act? Do you really think Xiao Ying would willingly leave with you, knowing her family is worried?” He paused briefly before continuing, “Even if she were willing, you wouldn’t be. After all, the Fang Qingying you love isn’t that kind of person, is she?”
Every word Shen Lixie spoke was a knife twisting in Gu Shengxiao’s heart.
No matter how harsh his words, they struck true.
The Fang Qingying she knew was not someone who acted recklessly. Yet, she couldn’t help but hope that one day, Fang Qingying would place her at the very center of her heart.
Gu Shengxiao remained silent for a long moment before finally conceding.
“Once you’ve dealt with the situation on the rooftop, you can come back for her.”
Until then, she would not let go so easily.
Her eyes burned with unshakable resolve, her crimson lips pressed together in displeasure no, something closer to fury.
She couldn’t refute a single word Shen Lixie had said, but she could fight for what she wanted.
Heaven knew the terror that had gripped her when she realized Fang Qingying was missing, the crushing regret that had nearly drowned her in despair.
Shen Lixie glanced down at Fang Qingying, who was still clutching the other’s clothes, and sighed in exasperation.
Rubbing his temples, he relented. “Fine.”
Compromise was the best outcome for both of them.
Besides, if he had to handle that mess, he wouldn’t be able to keep an eye on Fang Qingying. Leaving her with Gu Shengxiao for now was the safer option.
Shen Lixie clenched his fists. He was going to find out exactly who had dared lay a finger on his sister.
“You four follow Miss Gu,” he ordered, gesturing to a few of the men behind him to protect Gu Shengxiao and Fang Qingying.
“Yes, Young Master.”
Four bodyguards stepped forward from the group and obediently positioned themselves behind Gu Shengxiao.
“Miss Gu, after you.”
Gu Shengxiao shot a glance at the visibly reluctant Shen Lixie, her red lips curling into a lazy smirk. “I’ll be waiting downstairs for you to finish.”
The longer it took, the better less chance for him to interrupt her time with Fang Qingying.
Though this “alone time” did come with quite a few extra lights.
“Hmph.” Shen Lixie snorted coldly before leading his men toward the elevators and emergency stairwell, heading up to the fourteenth-floor rooftop.
Upon reaching the top floor, Shen Lixie and his group pushed open the doors to the absurd open-air restaurant, only to be met with the nauseating sight of a masked ball.
The revelers seemed oblivious to the commotion below, still immersed in their wild fantasies. It wasn’t until Shen Lixie entered that their movements finally came to a halt.
Waiters clad in black tailcoats carried trays laden with various items, as if collecting tokens for exchange.
This so-called masked ball was, in reality, a grotesque multiplayer game orchestrated by those wielding wealth and power. Here, all one needed was to don a mask to cast aside all inhibitions and lose themselves in the revelry.
The only requirement for entry was the ability to fulfill others’ desires, whatever they may be.
And in return, you would receive what you desired.
Money, status, women, fine wine.
As long as you could pay the price, any wish could be granted.
Sounds tempting, doesn’t it?
But no matter how finely dressed, a beast remains a beast. It can never become human only more laughable in its pretense.
No matter how elegant the name “masked ball” may sound, it cannot disguise its true nature.
Or, to borrow showbiz parlance this was nothing but a glorified den of debauchery.
The pungent stench permeating the open-air restaurant only served to further ignite the animalistic frenzy of its patrons.
Shen Lixie’s arrival barely gave them pause within seconds, they had sunk back into their depravity.
One of the black-tailed waiters noticed Shen Lixie’s group. Setting down his tray, he approached with a courteous bow.
“Sir, how may I assist you? Should you require any introductions, please don’t hesitate to ask.” The waiter’s voice was smooth, his face hidden behind an innocent rabbit mask designed to put guests at ease.
A single glance told him Shen Lixie was the leader of this group.
When met with silence, the waiter’s masked eyes crinkled in a smile. Turning, he retrieved a fox mask from a nearby table.
“If you don’t mind, sir, perhaps you’d like to try this? I believe you’ll enjoy the experience.”
After all, who could resist the allure of anonymity?
Here, one could indulge freely without fear of recognition or consequence.
No burdens, no regrets.
“Seems your intel network is lacking,” Shen Lixie remarked coldly, his gaze sweeping over the fox mask with undisguised disgust.
“Wreck this place.”
The command hung in the air as his icy eyes locked onto the waiter. “Who’s in charge here?”
The waiter’s demeanor shifted instantly. “Ah, so you’ve come to make trouble, sir?” He raised a hand, signaling for backup.
“My apologies, but this establishment has never been successfully disrupted before.”
As he spoke, a group of burly men emerged behind him each easily capable of taking on multiple opponents.
The waiter retreated silently, unchallenged by Shen Lixie.
Shen Lixie slid his long, elegant fingers into his pockets, his lashes lowering slightly as he watched the waiter disappear into the crowd with detached indifference.
Shen Lixie, with a faint smile playing on his lips, glanced up at the wall of people blocking their path and let out a derisive chuckle. “Let them see for themselves what happens when someone dares to lay a hand on those they shouldn’t,” he said.
“Yes, young master.”
The group of bodyguards behind him deftly removed their suit jackets and unbuttoned a few buttons on their crisp white shirts. The stark white fabric contrasted sharply against their bronzed skin, making them stand out even more.
Ten minutes later, the open-air restaurant was in complete disarray, with furniture and decor smashed to pieces.
Shen Lixie pulled up a chair and sat right in the center, his eyes crinkling with amusement as he surveyed the furious gazes fixed on him. “So, is the person in charge ready to step forward now?”
No sooner had he spoken than a burly man and a portly boss emerged from the crowd, accompanied by the waiter who had spoken to Shen Lixie earlier.
“What the hell is the meaning of this?” the burly man demanded, veins bulging on his forehead as he took in the scene his men sprawled on the ground, barely conscious. It felt as if someone had lit a fire in his chest, threatening to consume his last shred of restraint.
“I, Li Dong, am not someone to be trifled with here. You’d better think carefully before you speak, unless you’ve got a death wish.”
The man who called himself Li Dong took several deep breaths, forcing himself to stay composed.
“Ah, so it’s the renowned Brother Li?” Shen Lixie’s expression shifted to one of sudden realization, which made Li Dong puff out his chest with pride.
In the underworld of H City, no one was ignorant of Li Dong’s name especially since he had powerful backing from a major figure in the capital, Yanjing. Who did this random guy think he was, daring to mess with his turf?
“If you kneel and kowtow now, I might be magnanimous enough to forgive your mistakes,” Li Dong sneered, his disdainful gaze sweeping over Shen Lixie’s tall, lean frame as if he were granting him a favor.
Meanwhile, the portly boss beside him had frozen in place the moment he recognized Shen Lixie. Hearing Li Dong’s reckless words, he nearly fainted from sheer terror.
That was the eldest son of the Shen family from Yanjing!
This idiot had already provoked the young lady of the Fang family was he really stupid enough to cross the Shen heir too?
“Shut, shut your mouth!” the boss gasped, slapping a hand on Li Dong’s shoulder as he struggled to catch his breath.
Under Li Dong’s irritated glare, the boss forced a trembling, ingratiating smile. “Young Master Shen, please don’t lower yourself to deal with this worthless scum. I, Fei, sincerely apologize on his behalf.”
Rubbing his hands nervously, Boss Fei stole furtive glances at Shen Lixie’s expression. Detecting no immediate displeasure, he ventured cautiously, “May I ask, what offense we’ve committed today to incur your wrath? We beg for your mercy.”
Li Dong, infuriated by this groveling, grabbed Boss Fei by the collar and snarled, “What the hell are you playing at, acting like a coward? It’s not your brothers lying beaten on the ground, of course you don’t give a damn!”
“Isn’t he just a scrawny little brat? I could crush him with one slap!”
“Shut your mouth.” Boss Fei warned him in a low voice. “That guy is the eldest son of the Yanjing Shen family, their future heir. Don’t think for a second that the higher-ups would risk offending the Shen’s just for you.”
“Ha, another Yanjing Shen? Perfect, there’s also that Yanjing Fang family that little girl looks damn fine, wonder if she.”
Li Dong licked his lips unconsciously as he spoke, his mind clearly wandering.
But before he could finish, a champagne bottle smashed straight into his head, shattering instantly and showering him and the floor with glass shards.
Dazed, Li Dong touched the blood on his forehead, his palm coated in hot, sticky crimson.
“Damn it, I’ll make sure you don’t walk out of here alive.”
With a furious roar, Li Dong grabbed another bottle from a nearby table and hurled it straight at Shen Lixie’s direction.
