- Chapter 25 - Xiao Xiao
“Exactly? This thing is like hieroglyphics, even harder than English. I genuinely don’t like it.” Hearing this, Fang Qingying sighed and said slowly.
If the original owner didn’t like it, and she herself didn’t like the subject either, how could she possibly understand it?
“Xiao Xiao, do you know it?”
Fang Qingying asked casually, but then she remembered that Gu Shengxiao had attended the Northern Film Academy, one of the top-tier art schools in the country, and she had even been admitted as the top scorer in the national college entrance exams.
She fell silent.
Putting everything else aside, just the title of “top scorer” alone made Fang Qingying feel nothing short of admiration.
But even a top scorer wouldn’t know finance, right? After all, their fields of study were completely different.
“I do.”
Gu Shengxiao’s confident reply came through the phone.
Fang Qingying was slightly taken aback. “Are you sure?”
“If Xiao Ying doesn’t believe me, how about I teach you when you come to the set?”
“Sure!”
Fang Qingying agreed without hesitation. Why would she refuse something that could bring her closer to her?
“By the way, Xiao Xiao, can you do me a favor?”
“What favor?”
“Well, the makeup exam is in a week. Could you take it for me, please?” Fang Qingying clutched her phone, sneaking glances at the door, afraid someone might walk in and overhear her.
Gu Shengxiao: “Take it for you?”
As far as she remembered, all exams required ID and student verification before entering the exam hall.
Just because she attended school flexibly didn’t mean she didn’t know exams had to be taken in person. How could someone else take it for you?
“Yeah, because I’ve been filming lately and can’t go back to school for the makeup exam, the teacher agreed to let me take it via livestream.” Fang Qingying bit her lip and explained in a hushed voice.
It wasn’t that she wanted to skip the exam she just wasn’t confident she could score a perfect hundred. To avoid being forced out of the entertainment industry, she’d come up with this terrible idea.
“Should I whisper the answers to you from the side?” Gu Shengxiao emphasized the word “side.”
Whether or not she took the exam for her didn’t matter, what mattered was that she could be in the same room as Fang Qingying.
“Mm. The crew arranged a hotel, right? I checked, and our rooms are pretty close.”
Fang Qingying flipped open the hotel layout Shen Lixie had sent her. Next to it was a circle the original owner had marked with emphasis, with Gu Shengxiao’s name written beside it.
“Please, please?” Fang Qingying pleaded in a coquettish tone. She’d only cheat this once, she wouldn’t dare again.
“Fine.” Gu Shengxiao “reluctantly” agreed.
What Fang Qingying didn’t know was that their rooms were so close because Gu Shengxiao had specifically requested it.
The two continued chatting idly, and as they talked, Fang Qingying couldn’t help but yawn.
“Sleepy?” Gu Shengxiao stopped recounting amusing incidents from the set. “If you’re tired, Xiao Ying, you can go to sleep.”
“I’m not sleepy.”Fang Qingying yawned, rolling onto her side on the bed before adding, ‘Xiao Xiao, thank you for the Weibo hot search thing~’
Her voice, drowsy and muddled, took on a sweet, childish lilt, carrying an unconscious hint of coquetry.”
“It really was me trying to scam you.” Gu Shengxiao thought of Fang Qingying’s lazy, coquettish appearance sprawled on the bed, warmth flickering in her eyes.
“Mmm, Xiao Xiao is so good to me.”
“Xiao Ying, let’s switch to video, okay?” Gu Shengxiao sounded like a big bad wolf coaxing a little rabbit to open its door, she suddenly wanted to see Fang Qingying.
Fang Qingying didn’t respond, but the next second, Gu Shengxiao watched as her phone screen switched from the call interface to a video feed.
In the video, Fang Qingying was sprawled on a soft bed, clutching her phone with both hands and shoving it right in front of her face, completely unaware that this was the angle most likely to produce unflattering photos.
But in Gu Shengxiao’s eyes, she looked utterly adorable, with a stubborn little cowlick sticking up from her head. Her eyes were half-lidded, clearly exhausted, yet she refused to sleep.
“Xiao Ying.” Gu Shengxiao couldn’t help calling out softly as she watched the girl start to doze off.
But the one being called had already curled up on the soft bed, eyelids fluttering shut as she drifted into sweet slumber.
Gu Shengxiao smiled helplessly, gazing at the girl’s sleeping face before lying back on her own hotel bed, as if intending to rest alongside her.
She had to be on set by five the next morning, there was an evening banquet she needed to attend, so she’d chosen to film her scenes early to make it in time.
The next morning, Fang Qingying rubbed her head as she crawled out from under the blankets. Instinctively, she glanced toward the nightstand her phone was missing?
She’d only slept for a night, where had her phone gone?
“Strange? Did I drop it under the bed or something?” Fang Qingying sat on the bed in confusion, randomly flipping through the blankets.
In the end, she found her phone beside her pillow. She instinctively pressed the power button, only to find that the phone had long since died from lack of charge.
Baffled, Fang Qingying could only plug it in to charge. She had no idea what she’d done the night before to drain the battery so completely.
The only thing she remembered was one thing Gu Shengxiao had agreed to take her exam for her.
Though Fang Qingying felt guilty about it, there was no way she could score full marks within a week on her own.
Meanwhile, at the film set, Gu Shengxiao gave her assistant, Xiao Lin, a task.
“Get me all the finance textbooks from freshman to junior year, especially the first and second-year ones.” Gu Shengxiao took a bite of the breakfast prepared by her nutritionist and issued the order without batting an eye.
“Xiao Xiao-jie, what do you need finance textbooks for? Aren’t you a freshman in the acting department of the arts school?” Xiao Lin asked curiously.
Forgive his ignorance, but he really couldn’t see the connection between finance in the business school and acting in the arts department.
“Just have Yu Lu-jie find them for me,” Gu Shengxiao said, lifting her gaze slightly, a hint of impatience in her eyes.
Why all the questions? She wouldn’t have asked if she already knew. She had a week, she’d study on her own first. If it proved too difficult, she’d hire a tutor.
“Alright, then. Where should I deliver the books once I find them?” Xiao Lin shrank his neck slightly, asking cautiously.
“My hotel room at the crew’s lodging. Don’t let anyone else know.” Especially Fang Qingying.
Gu Shengxiao silently added that last part to herself.
If Fang Qingying found out, wouldn’t that ruin the image she had in the girl’s mind?
“Leave it to me, Sister Xiaoxiao, you can count on me.” Xiao Lin patted his chest in assurance. Just a finance textbook? He’d get it for her by tomorrow.
“Mm.” Gu Shengxiao nodded.
