After I Married the Comatose CEO - Chapter 6
Xie Qiu took another deep breath and ordered himself to calm down.
But when he turned around and caught sight of that startling curve, the heat that had finally started to fade from his face began to rise again.
How scary. How could there be such a scary thing?
Xie Qiu hurried to look away and covered his cheeks with both hands, trying to cool himself down.
It’s nothing, it’s nothing. It’s just a normal physical reaction for a coma patient.
At least… at least it proves He Siyan’s body is very healthy and there’s nothing wrong with it!
Xie Qiu began to hypnotize himself with these thoughts, so he naturally missed the very slight change in the man on the bed.
The pale chest rose and fell a bit more noticeably than usual. His slightly curled fingertips dug into the sheets, looking as if they were trying to grasp something, but they soon went limp and let go.
After a while, Xie Qiu took a cautious look toward the bed and silently lowered his head to open his phone.
The search results this time showed that in this situation, there was nothing to do but leave it alone. Because a coma patient’s bodily functions have not fully recovered and they are unconscious, there is a high chance they cannot find a normal release.
Xie Qiu put his phone away. “I guess I just have to wait it out.”
Even if a coma patient has normal functions, it’s not like he could…
Xie Qiu covered his face with his hands. “Stop!”
Worried that He Siyan might catch a cold while exposed, he could only walk toward the bed with his eyes squinting and pull the blanket back over him.
The man’s body was covered. Although the blanket was still propped up, it was much better than having it right in front of his eyes.
Xie Qiu could finally look at him directly and apologized in a small voice, “Mr. He, I’m sorry. I really didn’t do it on purpose.”
Even though the man was in a deep sleep, his handsome, thin face still gave off a cold and distant vibe. If He Siyan woke up right now, he would surely throw him out without mercy.
Xie Qiu suddenly felt a bit curious. What was the “normal” Mr. He actually like?
He pulled out his phone again and typed the name “He Siyan” into the search bar.
First to pop up was He Siyan’s Baidu Baike page. He had a full entry listing his basic information and a long list of honorary titles. Xie Qiu only focused on the birth date.
It turned out He Siyan was only twenty-eight this year, only seven years older than him.
Xie Qiu scrolled down. To his surprise, there were very few photos or videos of He Siyan online.
Soon, his gaze was caught by a short video. The background seemed to be a financial summit. He Siyan was sitting in the front row. The photographer filmed from the left, and He Siyan seemed to sense it, turning his head to glance at the camera.
That one look was incredibly powerful. Even through the screen, Xie Qiu’s heart skipped a beat uncontrollably.
He Siyan had dark, deep eyes and thick eyelashes that added intensity to his look. His features were bold and striking—more handsome and even more unapproachable than he had imagined. He was a natural-born leader, carrying an intimidating aura of authority.
At this moment, Xie Qiu finally understood why the author insisted on making He Siyan a vegetable who stayed in bed until the end of the story. When He Jingchen stood alone, he was bright enough, but if he stood next to He Siyan, he would definitely be overshadowed.
But was such an arrangement really fair to He Siyan? A few lines in a book had ruined He Siyan’s real life.
Xie Qiu let out a long sigh and turned off his phone.
After a moment of silence, he had a sudden idea. “Mr. He, how about I find a book to read to you?”
Since he had nothing else to do anyway, he had heard that reading, telling stories, or playing music for coma patients could help them regain consciousness sooner.
No sooner said than done. Xie Qiu got up to look for a book in the room. But since this room had been renovated for medical care, many things had been cleared out. He couldn’t find a single book.
Xie Qiu thought for a bit. “Mr. He, wait for me a moment.”
In novels, these rich families have huge houses with private studies. He should be able to find a book He Siyan liked in the study.
Xie Qiu pushed the door open and walked quietly across the thick carpet. After circling around a couple of times, he came to a closed door and tried to open it. Unfortunately, the door was locked from the inside.
“What are you doing!” a familiar low shout rang out.
Xie Qiu’s hand shook in fear. He instinctively turned around, his beautiful eyes wide and innocent like a startled deer.
After seeing who it was, he spoke helplessly, “Second Young Master He, don’t you know that scaring people like that can kill them?”
He Jingchen frowned. “What are you doing acting suspicious in front of my brother’s study?”
“Oh, so this really is Siyan-ge’s study?” Xie Qiu’s eyes lit up. “I’m so smart, I found it on the first try.”
“You…” He Jingchen looked him up and down. “Are you trying to sneak into my brother’s study to steal something?”
“Steal something?” Xie Qiu was offended. “Second Young Master, why are you accusing me for no reason?”
“Then explain yourself. What exactly are you doing here?” He Jingchen said with a serious expression. “My brother’s study is full of trade secrets. No one is allowed inside without his permission.”
Xie Qiu: “…”
How did this suddenly turn into “trade secrets”?
“It’s like this: I wanted to find a book to read to Siyan-ge,” Xie Qiu explained nicely. “But I don’t know what he likes, so I wanted to look in the study.”
He Jingchen stared at him doubtfully for a few seconds before answering coldly, “My brother likes reading financial magazines.”
Xie Qiu: “Uh…”
As expected of the captain of a business empire, his reading taste was different from ordinary people. Thinking of the dramatic novels he usually enjoyed, Xie Qiu gave a slightly guilty laugh. “That’s… good.”
He Jingchen asked again, “Any more questions?”
“Forget it, pretend I was never here.” Xie Qiu shuffled away step by step. “Goodnight, Second Young Master.”
Having said that, he tried his best to ignore the stinging gaze on his back and hurried away.
Xie Qiu returned to the sickroom and described his “dangerous” exploration vividly to the sleeping man. Finally, he concluded, “I’m not running around anymore.”
Otherwise, he might actually be treated as a corporate spy by He Jingchen.
“Since you don’t have a specific reading preference, Mr. He, let’s just use my book list.” Xie Qiu thought for a moment. “I’ll go to the bookstore tomorrow and buy a few books. I’ll read to you whenever I’m free.”
But for now, he still had to finish wiping He Siyan’s legs. Giving up halfway was not his style.
Xie Qiu walked to the side of the bed and lifted the blanket gently.
Fortunately, the “brave and spirited” part seemed to have calmed down.
“Finally…” Xie Qiu turned around to get another basin of warm water, wrung out the towel, and continued to wipe the man’s lower legs.
After cleaning him, he spent a good amount of effort putting the pajamas back on.
“There, all clean.” Xie Qiu stood by the bed, calming his slightly unsteady breath. “That’s all for today. I’ll come see you again tomorrow.”
He bent down to tuck in the corners of the blanket and said softly, “Goodnight, Mr. He. I hope you are having a beautiful dream.”
The next morning, after saying good morning to He Siyan, Xie Qiu went downstairs for breakfast.
One person was missing from the table this morning. He asked casually, “Mom, is Xiao Chen not up yet?”
“I don’t know either.” Su Wanrong called for the butler. “Uncle Lin, go check if the Second Young Master is awake.”
Butler Lin replied, “Madam, the Second Young Master left for school early this morning.”
“He already left?” Su Wanrong was a bit surprised. “Why did he leave so early today?”
“The Second Young Master only said he had something urgent; I didn’t ask for details.” Butler Lin requested instructions. “Should I contact the driver now to ask what’s going on?”
Su Wanrong said calmly, “No need.”
Xie Qiu knew exactly why. The Second Young Master was likely afraid that Xie Qiu wouldn’t suggest going to school separately, so he ran away early in the morning to get ahead of him.
This was fine; it saved Xie Qiu from having to make up an excuse.
“Xiao Qiu,” Su Wanrong asked warmly, “do you know if anything happened with Jingchen?”
Xie Qiu looked up. “Xiao Chen hasn’t told me anything.”
“I see…” Su Wanrong paused, then asked in a joking tone, “Has Jingchen been bullying you?”
Xie Qiu’s heart skipped a beat, but he kept a smile on his face. “With you backing me up, Mom, who would dare bully me?”
“That’s good.” Su Wanrong laughed too. “Good child, I won’t let you suffer even a tiny bit of grievance in the He family.”
“I know.” Xie Qiu replied sweetly, “Thank you, Mom.”
After breakfast, Xie Qiu took a different car to school.
This time he was alone in the car. He comfortably caught up on some sleep and got out to walk at the intersection before the A University gate.
To avoid causing any unnecessary misunderstandings, the more low-profile he stayed, the better.
But he didn’t expect that even though he was being so low-profile, trouble would still find him.
At noon, Xie Qiu specifically avoided the peak lunch hour to go to the cafeteria with Meng Ziye.
Just as he got his food and sat down, a sharp voice came from behind him: “Hey!”
Xie Qiu didn’t pay attention and picked up his chopsticks to start eating.
“Hey! Are you deaf?” The person strode over to him and questioned aggressively, “Didn’t you hear me calling you!”
Xie Qiu looked up and saw a clean-looking boy who looked very unfamiliar.
He blinked. “Are you calling me?”
Bai You glared at him. “If I’m not calling you, who else would I be calling?”
Xie Qiu: “…”
First, his name wasn’t “Hey,” it was Xie Qiu. Second…
His silence was seen as a silent provocation by the other party. Bai You threatened him directly: “I’m telling you, Xie Qiu, He Jingchen is mine! If you dare to pester him again, I’ll make you regret it!”
Xie Qiu understood instantly. This person was likely one of He Jingchen’s fans—a stereotypical “cannon fodder” villain who was even more brainless than the original Xie Qiu.
However, this little fan seemed to have found the wrong person; he wasn’t the protagonist.
Since they were both just minor characters, why be so hard on each other?
“So, you do know my name.” Xie Qiu curled his lips and replied with a smile, “But you have the wrong person. I’m not pestering He Jingchen.”
“You’re exactly the one I’m looking for!” Bai You began to curse recklessly. “You parentless bastard, you’re just a dog picked up by the Xie family. How can someone like you deserve to compete with me for Brother Chen?”
Xie Qiu’s expression shifted slightly, and his tone turned cold. “You certainly have both parents; didn’t they ever teach you what manners are?”
“What did you say?” Bai You turned red with anger and rushed forward to hit him.
Xie Qiu dodged to the side just in time. The other boy fell flat onto the table, his face landing right in the food.
The small group of followers behind him looked at each other, hesitating whether to step forward.
Bai You struggled to straighten up and shouted with a sob in his voice, “What are you all just standing there for!”
“I suggest you don’t do anything reckless.” Xie Qiu sat steadily without moving. “Even if I am the Xie family’s adopted son, hitting my face is the same as hitting the Xie family’s face. Do you understand?”
The common people shouldn’t get involved in the fights between rich young masters. Once he said this, the followers very naturally turned and left.
At that moment, Meng Ziye walked over with his food. Seeing the pathetic-looking Bai You, he laughed out loud without any tact: “What happened here? Hahaha!”
Bai You stood there alone and helpless, looking like he was about to cry.
Xie Qiu shook his head. This little “cannon fodder” had no combat power; he was a bit too weak.
He stood up, took a napkin out of his pocket, and held it out to him.
Bai You forced himself to keep glaring. “I don’t need your fake kindness!”
Xie Qiu’s tone was cool. “If you don’t want it, then walk out with soup all over your face.”
Bai You decisively snatched the napkin and wiped his face messily.
Not far away, He Jingchen, who had rushed over after hearing the news, watched the scene. He stood thoughtfully for a few seconds before turning to leave.
“What exactly happened?” Meng Ziye still didn’t understand the situation. “Xiao Qiu, who is he?”
“I don’t know him.” Xie Qiu lowered his head and cleared his tray. “Let’s go. Let’s find another seat.”
He got a new serving of food, but Meng Ziye still wouldn’t give up on the gossip. “Did I just miss a good show?”
“It was nothing, just a fan of He Jingchen.” Xie Qiu laughed. “He has a bit of a foul mouth and is a little brainless, but I’ve already taught him a lesson.”
“Holy crap!” Meng Ziye said in an exaggerated tone. “So soon, the ‘school grass’ fans have already come to find trouble with you!”
Xie Qiu replied half-seriously, “Don’t worry. Very soon, they will have a new target.”
If he remembered correctly, the story’s main protagonist should be making an appearance soon. When that happens, not only will everyone’s attention shift, but He Jingchen won’t have time to keep an eye on him anymore.
In the evening, Xie Qiu took the car back to the He family estate.
While passing a bookstore, he asked the driver to stop. He went inside, carefully selected a few books, and tucked them into his backpack.
When he got home, he found that Su Wanrong was out and He Jingchen was nowhere to be found, so he went upstairs with his backpack.
After taking a quick shower, he pushed open the connecting door between the rooms.
“Eldest Young Madam.” Li Wei looked up and saw it was him, greeting him immediately. “You’re home from school.”
Xie Qiu: “Yes.”
Why did that sound so strange? It’s not like he was an elementary student.
“I am giving the Eldest Young Master a massage.” Li Wei raised his hands to show him.
Xie Qiu walked over and found the man on the bed with his home clothes open. The pale skin on his chest was slightly red from the repeated rubbing.
His chest and abdomen were covered in essential oil, reflecting the bright light and making the lines of his muscles look a bit more defined.
“No wonder Mr. He stays in such good shape,” Xie Qiu praised. “It’s all thanks to your daily massages.”
“Not at all, we’re just doing our job.” Li Wei felt a bit shy from the praise. “And you should have seen the Eldest Young Master’s body before. It was truly—”
Li Wei wasn’t very well-educated and couldn’t think of the right word for a moment, so he just blurted out: “Fantastic!”
Xie Qiu laughed. “I can imagine.”
“Eldest Young Madam, would you like to try?” Li Wei suggested. “The massage technique is very easy to learn!”
“No, no, that’s okay!” Xie Qiu quickly declined. “Professional things like this are better left to professional people.”
“Alright then.” Li Wei didn’t want to force him. “Sit for a while; I’ll be done soon.”
“Okay,” Xie Qiu replied, his gaze accidentally drifting down a bit.
“Little” He Siyan was quite calm today, though he was still quite “impressive” even while in a deep sleep.
It seemed like last night was just an accident. After all, Mr. He looked like such a cold and disciplined person.
Li Wei turned back and asked again, “Are you sure you don’t want to try?”
“I…” Xie Qiu hesitated for a moment and replied, “Maybe I’ll try?”
Li Wei immediately stepped aside. “Come here!”
Xie Qiu stepped forward and held out his hands. He let the caregiver drip oil into his palms and then rubbed them together to warm it up.
Li Wei explained the basic steps of the massage from the side and demonstrated it himself. “Is it very simple?”
Xie Qiu leaned over close to the bed. His fingertips touched the subtle chest muscles and pressed down gently.
It was soft and smooth; it felt good.
Xie Qiu couldn’t help but rub it again, but he was surprised to find that the muscle under his palm seemed to have become a little firmer.
