After I Married the Comatose CEO - Chapter 27
He Siyan looked at the packed suitcase: “You’ve already finished packing your bags?”
Xie Qiu realized that he looked like he was about to run away with the money. He immediately explained: “I was planning to go downstairs and tell you, but the phone call interrupted me.”
He Siyan didn’t speak. He just stared at him with an unreadable expression.
Xie Qiu’s scalp felt numb under that gaze. But noticing the man leaning on his cane, he still invited him in: “Mr. He, why don’t you come in first?”
He Siyan walked into the room step by step with his cane.
The wooden cane made a dull thud on the floor, and Xie Qiu’s heart started to beat “thud-thud” as well.
When Mr. He had no expression, his presence was already very strong. Now that he was in a bad mood, he looked even scarier.
Xie Qiu hurried to the bed and smoothed out a wrinkle on the sheet: “Mr. He, please sit here.”
He Siyan glanced at him and sat at the end of the bed.
“First, I want to apologize for the nonsense I just said,” Xie Qiu said, choosing his words carefully. “I only said those lies because I didn’t want my foster parents to bother anyone in the He family. I hoped to stop their ideas for good.”
He Siyan still held his cane: “Why?”
Since things had reached this point, Xie Qiu had to tell the whole truth: “Because they made me marry into the He family only for money. I was worried they would keep trying to get money from the He family through me.”
He Siyan’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Then why are you packing your bags?”
Xie Qiu replied in a low voice, “I was just about to say goodbye to you, Mr. He. I plan to leave.”
He Siyan’s fingers tightened suddenly on his cane. He asked again in a calm voice, “Why?”
“Huh?” Xie Qiu looked up, appearing confused. “Why what?”
He Siyan frowned. “Why do you want to leave?”
“I know you don’t want to be married to me, and I also happen to not like men.” To make the other man feel at ease, Xie Qiu told a small, harmless lie. “This marriage was fake from the start. Now is the right time to end it.”
He Siyan pressed his lips together, his expression hard to read.
“I am very grateful for how the He family took care of me during this time. I also appreciate you defending me in front of the media to save my dignity.” Xie Qiu bowed slightly. “Since you have recovered, Mr. He, there is no reason for an outsider like me to stay.”
He Siyan stared at him with dark eyes and asked back, “Who said I have recovered?”
Xie Qiu was stunned. “You haven’t recovered yet?”
He Siyan looked away. “No.”
Xie Qiu looked him up and down and asked doubtfully, “Where exactly is Mr. He still…”
He Siyan looked perfectly normal. “In a place you cannot see.”
Xie Qiu blinked. “I understand.”
If Mr. He says he isn’t recovered, then he isn’t. There’s no reason for a man like him to lie, Xie Qiu thought.
Xie Qiu said sincerely, “But I am not a professional nurse. I might not be able to help you with your recovery very well.”
He Siyan looked at him steadily. “You are very important to my recovery.”
Hearing this made Xie Qiu feel a bit happy, but he replied modestly, “Actually, I haven’t done much.”
He Siyan’s throat moved slightly as he asked, “Are you still leaving?”
Xie Qiu gave a serious promise: “If you need me, Mr. He, I will stay until you are fully recovered.”
He suspected He Siyan had been brainwashed by his own mother into believing Xie Qiu was the one who woke him up, which is why he thought Xie Qiu was so important.
Regardless, it felt good to be needed.
“Mm,” He Siyan grunted deeply, and the tension in his hand relaxed.
He glanced casually at the large box on the table. “What is that?”
Xie Qiu suddenly felt guilty. “Nothing…”
Luckily, He Siyan didn’t seem to want to press for details; he just asked casually.
Xie Qiu bit his lip and eventually decided to confess. “That box is filled with all the gifts I received.”
He Siyan raised an eyebrow. “Gifts?”
Xie Qiu explained honestly, “They are welcome gifts everyone gave me when I first came to the He family, and some other things.”
He Siyan: “Mm.”
“Even though I like these gifts, I don’t have to take them all with me.” Xie Qiu watched his expression. “How about I give you half?”
He Siyan: “…”
Xie Qiu: “Two-thirds?”
He would take one-third; he couldn’t go any lower than that!
“Keep it all.” He Siyan stood up with his cane. “But for now, you can put it back.”
Xie Qiu’s face turned a bit red. “Oh…”
I was being too narrow-minded, he thought. A CEO like Mr. He wouldn’t care about my things.
He Siyan stared at the red face for a few seconds before slowly walking toward the door.
“Wait, Mr. He,” Xie Qiu suddenly remembered something and called out to him. “Did you come to see me for a specific reason?”
“Nothing,” He Siyan replied flatly. “I was just passing by.”
Xie Qiu believed him. “Okay.”
My luck is so bad, he thought. I got caught red-handed by Mr. He just because he was walking past…
After He Siyan left, Xie Qiu crouched on the floor and unzipped his suitcase to take his clothes back out.
“Xiao Qiu?” Su Wanrong’s voice suddenly sounded behind him. “What are you doing?”
Xie Qiu turned his head. “Mom, listen to me—”
“Xiao Qiu, why are you packing?” Su Wanrong saw the suitcase and looked shocked. “Are you running away from home?”
Xie Qiu: “…”
He was twenty-one, not eleven. He wouldn’t do something as childish as running away!
“You can’t! I won’t allow it!” Su Wanrong walked over quickly and said reproachfully, “Xiao Qiu, how can you abandon your husband and child!”
Xie Qiu replied weakly, “Mom, I can understand ‘abandoning my husband,’ but where did a ‘child’ come from?”
“Uh…” Su Wanrong was stumped for a second, but then she reacted immediately. “Isn’t Oreo your son?”
Xie Qiu: “…”
Great. I have no way to argue with that.
“Xiao Qiu, put your things back!” Su Wanrong knelt down, grabbed his hand, and advised him earnestly, “Did Siyan mistreat you? If you feel wronged, tell me. I’ll find a way to help you!”
“No, Brother Siyan didn’t mistreat me,” Xie Qiu explained quickly. “I’m just packing a few clothes to go on a trip when I have time.”
Su Wanrong looked suspicious. “Really?”
“Really, Mom.” Xie Qiu’s eyes were sincere. “Even if I were to leave, I would definitely tell you. I wouldn’t just disappear without a word.”
“You silly child, what are you talking about?” Su Wanrong finally smiled and patted him gently. “This is your home. Where else would you go?”
Xie Qiu smiled back but didn’t agree.
The He family was great, and Su Wanrong was very kind to him, but this wasn’t his home. One day, he would still have to leave.
Su Wanrong helped him up and turned to close the door. “Xiao Qiu, I have something else to tell you.”
Xie Qiu replied, “Go ahead.”
Su Wanrong got straight to the point: “It’s about what Siyan said at the table—that he agreed to let Jingchen intern at the group.”
Xie Qiu knew what was bothering Su Wanrong, but he couldn’t point it out directly, so he just listened quietly.
“How should I put it? Both Grandpa and I hoped Jingchen would grow up healthy and happy, so we never asked too much of him.” Su Wanrong sighed. “But now that the child is grown, he has his own ideas.”
Xie Qiu remained silent for a few seconds before advising, “Since he has his own ideas, why not let him try first?”
Su Wanrong’s expression was complicated. “Xiao Qiu, some things are not as simple as you think.”
“I really don’t like thinking too much.” Xie Qiu laughed. “But I feel that even if you don’t trust Xiao Chen, you should trust Brother Siyan, right?”
Su Wanrong paused, appearing to have been woken up by his words.
Xie Qiu continued, “Anyway, Brother Siyan has already agreed. You can just treat it as letting Xiao Chen go and have some fun.”
“Xiao Qiu, you have a point.” Su Wanrong snapped out of it. “I was overthinking it.”
“Parents love their children and plan for their long-term future,” Xie Qiu comforted her softly. “I can understand your good intentions.”
Su Wanrong was touched by his words, and her voice became a bit choked up. “Xiao Qiu, you really are a very good child…”
Xie Qiu replied with a smile, “And you are a very good mother.”
Even though he had never met his own mother, in his eyes, Su Wanrong was already the best mom in the world. Even though He Jingchen was not her biological child and was even a reminder of something shameful—she only struggled to treat both sons exactly the same, but she never mistreated her younger son.
To be fair, how many people could be completely selfless?
The day passed quickly. In the evening, Xie Qiu went downstairs to the garden to play with the puppy.
But even after calling several times, he didn’t see the energetic puppy run out.
Xie Qiu searched everywhere among the flowers. “That’s strange. Where did Oreo go?”
“Young Mistress.” A gardener wearing a hat walked over. “Are you looking for the puppy?”
“Yes, I’m looking for Oreo,” Xie Qiu asked. “Do you know where he went?”
“I saw someone carry him inside just now.” The gardener pointed toward the front hall. “You can go back and ask.”
Xie Qiu frowned. “Carried him into the house?”
Su Wanrong had clearly said before that the puppy was not allowed inside. Who would dare to take him in?
“Thank you, I’ll go check.” Xie Qiu was a bit worried. After thanking the gardener, he headed for the front hall.
“Oreo?” He searched as he walked and stopped a maid to ask, “Excuse me, have you seen a small black dog?”
“I have, Young Mistress,” the maid replied. “The butler just brought a small black dog inside.”
As they were speaking, a “woof woof” sound came from the living room.
Xie Qiu followed the sound and saw the puppy wagging its tail and running toward him.
“Oreo!” He couldn’t help but smile, bending down to catch the puppy skillfully.
Xie Qiu petted the fuzzy little head. “Oreo, why did you run in here?”
Oreo couldn’t speak; he only knew how to wag his tail at him.
Xie Qiu carried the puppy back outside to the garden and sat on the swing.
He remembered Su Wanrong’s comment about “abandoning his husband and child” and said with a smile, “Oreo, Daddy would never abandon you.”
Oreo: “Woof woof!”
“You know that, right?” Xie Qiu lifted the puppy up. “Even if your father is cold-hearted and doesn’t want you anymore, Daddy will take you away.”
Just as he finished speaking, he caught a glimpse of a black figure out of the corner of his eye.
Xie Qiu: “…”
His luck today was truly terrible. Not only was he caught red-handed trying to run away, but he was also caught talking behind someone’s back.
He Siyan walked toward him with his cane and asked in a normal tone, “What is his name?”
Xie Qiu replied obediently, “His name is Oreo.”
Good, good, he thought. It seemed Mr. He hadn’t heard what he just said.
A second later, He Siyan asked again, “Who is his cold-hearted father?”
Xie Qiu slowly lowered his head and held Oreo up at the same time, trying to hide his face.
Oreo clearly recognized the man standing in front of him and struggled excitedly. “Woof woof woof!”
Xie Qiu: “?”
What’s going on? Why did my good son suddenly become harder to hold than a pig at New Year’s?
He Siyan looked down, watching the pretty, fair earlobes turn red. There was clear amusement in his eyes.
After a moment, he asked again slowly, “Who is his father?”
Xie Qiu’s face also turned red, and his voice was almost a whisper. “You…”
Since they were in a fake marriage when he found the puppy, it was normal for him to tell Oreo to call He Siyan “Father,” right?
“Oh.” The corners of He Siyan’s mouth curled up slightly. He reached out to pet the puppy’s head. “Then who is his mother?”
