- Chapter 94 - A Lifetime of Regret for a Choice
As they emerged from the sea, a sharp, short arrow whizzed past Qiu Fuxue’s cheek.
He cast a cold glance in its direction. Ye Chu stood there with his men, holding the three people from the pleasure boat hostage and waiting calmly for Qiu Fuxue to arrive.
“Sect Leader Qiu, we meet again.”
Qiu Fuxue instinctively stepped in front of Jiufang Cangze , holding his sword horizontally in front of his chest. “Ye Chu? Why are you here?”
Ye Chu gave a light laugh, then turned his head. A demon soldier stepped aside, and Jie Qiao walked forward, his face filled with shame.
“Naturally, it’s thanks to Sect Leader Jie’s help.”
“Jie… Qiao!” Qiu Fuxue’s eyes were icy, staring at him as if he wanted to slice him into a thousand pieces.
He hadn’t expected that besides the Luoshui Sect ), there were other immortal sects daring to collude with the demon race.
“Sect Leader Qiu, I’m sorry…” Jie Qiao’s apology sounded completely insincere. “I did it to ensure the safety of my entire sect. No one wants to end up like the Luoshui Sect…”
The Luoshui Sect had been thoroughly infiltrated by the demon race; not a single disciple had escaped. Judging by Jie Qiao’s situation, the Dongyang Sect had likely been cooperating with Ye Chu for a long time.
Qiu Fuxue pointed his sword at him, his heart filled with anger and disappointment. “Colluding with the demon race is one thing, but being a coward is another. Jie Qiao, you are truly a disgrace to the immortal sects!”
“You can’t say that!” Jie Qiao simply tore off his mask. “Qiu Fuxue, the mere fact that you murdered your master is enough to have you expelled from the immortal sects. And the person beside you has a shady background, too!”
The argument grew more heated. Ye Chu interrupted Jie Qiao, saying coldly, “That’s enough from you. Get out of here.”
He then waved his hand, and the blade against Jing An’s neck was pressed in a little deeper. The young girl’s terrified eyes filled with tears.
“Qiu Fuxue, I told you that you would regret the choice you made!” Ye Chu’s malevolent gaze fell on Jiufang Cangze. “Hand him and the Skeleton over. It’s a very profitable trade, two for three.”
Prince Ning , who was used to being arrogant in the mortal world, had never suffered such humiliation. He immediately cursed. “How dare you propose a trade to Sect Leader Qiu? You fool! Release us at once!”
Ye Chu slanted his gaze at him, then drew the longsword from a nearby soldier. “In that case, I’ll send you on your way first.”
“Wait—!” Jiufang Cangze, who had been silent all this time, finally stepped forward. “The Skeleton is at the Qianshan Sect. Release them first, and I will be your hostage.”
Qiu Fuxue instinctively grabbed the other’s sleeve. Jiufang Cangze slightly lowered his head, giving him a reassuring smile.
Ye Chu’s indifferent gaze moved up and down Jiufang Cangze’s body. “The sea is right behind you. Have some self-awareness and take a look. You’re not worth that much.”
The hand holding Zhengxin tightened. It was naturally difficult for Qiu Fuxue to watch the person he loved be so humiliated by another.
A large hand suddenly closed over his fist. He looked up, his eyes meeting a pair of crimson ones. His heart stirred. He spoke in a voice only the two of them could hear. “Actually, I can take you away right now.”
Jiufang Cangze’s heart skipped a beat, but he didn’t show it. Love really makes people selfish. Even Qiu Fuxue is no exception.
“But they will die.” He said very seriously, “If these three die, the Qianshan Sect will inevitably offend the Lan family and the imperial court. A-Xue, you know these things better than I do.”
Qiu Fuxue lowered his head and said nothing more. Jiufang Cangze held his wrist, rubbing the string of heart-blood beads. His gentle eyes seemed to hold a thousand unspoken words.
“…A-Xue.”
No matter how profound or deeply-felt the words, they couldn’t compare to these two simple syllables.
He stepped past Qiu Fuxue and moved forward. “Ye Chu, you release the girl, and I’ll go with you.”
“As for the Skeleton, A-Xue will return to the Qianshan Sect and trade him for the remaining two.”
Ye Chu pondered for a moment, then ordered his men to release Jing An, reluctantly agreeing to the proposal.
Throughout it all, Qiu Fuxue never looked up at them.
His last memory of Jiufang Cangze was of those affectionate, crimson eyes.
Ye Chu had his biggest bargaining chip. He wasn’t afraid that Qiu Fuxue would break the deal. After pushing Jing An forward, he took his men and left.
The air became quiet. Only the sound of the waves echoed in their ears.
Qiu Fuxue stood there, motionless for a long time.
Jing An walked over timidly, as if she had done something wrong. She gently tugged on his sleeve. “Sect Leader Qiu, what do we do now…?”
The frozen statue finally showed some reaction. Qiu Fuxue put away his sword, his eyes red. “Return to the Qianshan Sect.”
What should have been a half-day’s journey, under his duress, the sword spirit had to speed up, reaching the Qianshan Sect in just an hour.
The sect was visibly in chaos, as if it had been damaged by something.
A bad feeling suddenly surged in his heart.
After settling Jing An, Qiu Fuxue rushed to find Li Yun (黎雲). The other man was with a few disciples, seemingly giving instructions.
“A-Yun.” He called out. Li Yun turned his head, his face looking very tired.
“Senior Brother!” When Li Yun saw him, it was as if everything was hopeful again.
“What’s wrong? Why is the sect in such disarray?”
Li Yun’s face was bitter. “That woman we brought back with the Skeleton, Cui’er (翠兒), committed suicide in her cell for no reason. Then the Skeleton went mad and started attacking disciples everywhere. It took me a lot of effort to suppress him.”
When it rains, it pours. Qiu Fuxue suddenly thought of Ye Chu. It must have been him. During his fight with the Skeleton that day, he must have done something to Cui’er. Otherwise, she couldn’t have committed suicide.
He told Li Yun what had just happened. When Li Yun heard that Jiufang Cangze had been taken back to the demon realm, the feeling that surfaced was not joy but worry.
That’s Senior Brother’s true love. If something happens to Jiufang Cangze, Senior Brother will be devastated.
“Senior Brother, why don’t I lead a team to break into the demon realm…”
“No need.” Qiu Fuxue raised his hand to stop him, his voice devoid of emotion. “First, we’ll make the trade with Ye Chu, exchange him for Lan Shiyi and Prince Ning. As for the rest…”
“…There’s no hurry.”
With that, he went to the dungeon where the Skeleton was being held. Because of Cui’er’s death, the Skeleton couldn’t listen to a single word. He only wanted to kill and destroy.
Fortunately, the Skeleton didn’t have much spiritual power. Qiu Fuxue strengthened the seal on him. His beautiful face showed no emotion, but his trembling hands betrayed the pain in his heart.
This was the difference between him and a fiend. A fiend could vent its anger by killing after losing its love, but he could only endure. He had to hide his emotions and pretend to be dutiful.
Qiu Fuxue locked himself in his study for an entire night. During that time, the little dog Black Ball (小煤球) nudged the door open and quietly squeezed in.
“Woof…”
The little guy had grown a bit. It seemed to sense that its owner was very sad and placed a paw on his feet.
Qiu Fuxue looked down and picked it up.
His field of vision was now higher. Black Ball finally saw that the desk in front of its master was empty except for a string of crimson beads quietly lying there.
“Black Ball, Cangze… he might not be coming back…”
The soft, fluffy fur on its head was soaked. Black Ball looked up and saw that its master was crying.
