- Chapter 80 - With Feeling, with a True Heart
That night, Qiu Fuxue packed his bags and went down the mountain to bring Jiufang Cangze back.
He and Du Xiaoshuang had been punished by Li Yun to work at the laundry workshop down the mountain. Their hands were rough with frostbite from washing clothes in the freezing water.
After a period of being ground down, Du Xiaoshuang was no longer as dependent on Jiufang Cangze as he had been. Instead, he now harbored a desire to curry favor with Qiu Fuxue.
He had finally figured out who was in charge here.
“Qiu Fuxue… no, Sect Leader Qiu.” Du Xiaoshuang followed woodenly behind him, hoping to convince him to take him away from this hellhole.
Qiu Fuxue didn’t even look at him. He grabbed Jiufang Cangze by the collar and walked out.
Du Xiaoshuang hurried to follow but was stopped by the gatekeeper disciple.
“Go back! The sect leader doesn’t want to see you!”
Jiufang Cangze thought Qiu Fuxue had missed him. He was quite moved on the way back. “Wuwu… A-Xue, I knew you couldn’t bear to leave me.”
Qiu Fuxue threw a bag at his face and said coldly, “Pack your things. We’re going on a long trip tomorrow!”
“Another trip?” Jiufang Cangze held the bag. He felt a threatening glare and swallowed all his opinions.
Originally, Qiu Fuxue wasn’t supposed to bring Jiufang Cangze along. But he couldn’t guarantee what Jiufang Cangze would be like after a long time under Li Yun’s care.
He definitely wouldn’t be in one piece.
Although this man always made him angry, his face was, after all, quite handsome. It would be a shame for it to be ruined.
After sending Jiufang Cangze back to pack, Qiu Fuxue put out the candles and got into bed to sleep.
Just as he was drifting off, his senses told him there was a sneaky figure walking back and forth outside his room.
Li Yun often came to his room before bed, but he would just push the door open and enter without hesitation.
That left only one person.
He sat up with a sigh and waved his hand to open the door. “Come in.”
The closed door suddenly opened, surprising Jiufang Cangze. After he recovered, he tip-toed inside.
The candles were lit, and light filled the tidy bedroom.
Qiu Fuxue leaned against the headboard, his eyes half-closed. “What is it? It’s so late. Why aren’t you sleeping?”
“A-Xue.” Jiufang Cangze stood up straight, his expression serious. He seemed to have mustered up a lot of courage to say what was on his mind. “I know I’m dirty… but I really didn’t touch him…”
Qiu Fuxue’s eyes were half-closed, and he looked exhausted. “Your feelings are dirty, too.”
Jiufang Cangze lowered his head, not daring to look at him. He was digging his nails into his palms until they hurt.
“Go back,” Qiu Fuxue said as he lay down, pulling the blanket up to cover half of his face. “Put out the candles and close the door.”
Jiufang Cangze stood by the bed for a while. It seemed that any explanation was useless, so he obeyed, put out the candles, and walked out.
But as his hands touched the door frame, he heard a barely audible sigh. “I’m still too good to you, that you have time to think about such things.”
“A-Xue…?”
His eyes widened. In the darkness, the person on the bed hadn’t moved.
Qiu Fuxue didn’t get much sleep that night.
He liked Jiufang Cangze, and he was slowly coming to terms with that fact.
As for when it started, perhaps it was the tenderness after a cruel act, or perhaps it was a passionate kiss that was given during a moment of painful desire.
He had given all of his “firsts” to him. It should have been a hateful revenge, but the moment Jiufang Cangze had risked his life to help him escape from the wall, his resolve had wavered.
If Jiufang Cangze was willing to offer his true heart, perhaps he could give him a chance.
The consequence of a sleepless night was that Qiu Fuxue had a pounding headache on the slow-moving carriage the next day.
Jiufang Cangze sat across from him, looking dazed. It seemed he hadn’t slept well either.
After being jolted awake by the bumpy road for the third time, Qiu Fuxue opened his eyes, unable to take it anymore. His tone was extremely aggressive. “Come here!”
“…!”
The sudden reprimand made the groggy Jiufang Cangze jump.
He met Qiu Fuxue’s unhappy eyes and, without a word, squeezed in next to him.
“A-Xue?” He didn’t know what was going on, but he knew he should do as he was told.
Qiu Fuxue unreasonably pulled his shoulder and then closed his eyes and rested his head on it.
Where Jiufang Cangze couldn’t see, his face was contorted.
A-Xue was willing to get close to him, and he should be happy. But his shoulder was still severely injured. He even suspected that this was revenge for him going to Qiu Fuxue’s room last night.
Even though he was thinking this, Jiufang Cangze kept adjusting his position to make sure the other man was comfortable.
He lowered his crimson eyes and saw the high bridge of his nose and his long, slender eyelashes. In particular, the beauty mark at the corner of his eye tugged at his heartstrings.
He must have been out of his mind to have had the heart to destroy such a beautiful person back then.
He slowly raised his hand and, as if touching a phantom, he reached out to touch Qiu Fuxue’s face. He wasn’t touching anything, but his fingers were still trembling from nervousness.
An endless sadness welled up in his heart. He didn’t know who would be worthy of such a perfect person in the future.
Before Jiufang Cangze could retract his hand, it was caught by another cool hand. And then, the touch that had been a phantom became real.
His pupils constricted. His voice was filled with disbelief as he said, “A-Xue…?”
Qiu Fuxue was still pretending to be asleep, but a hint of red on his cheeks gave him away.
“Sect Leader Qiu!”
The carriage had stopped at some point. A sudden shout broke the intimate atmosphere.
In an instant, Qiu Fuxue’s eyes flew open. He sat up straight and moved away from the person next to him, all in one smooth motion.
He saw Jing An (靜安) poke her head in from outside. She didn’t notice anything strange. She blinked and asked, “Sect Leader Qiu, would you like some snacks?”
With that, she held up a plate of pastries.
“Thank you.”
Qiu Fuxue accepted her kindness. The girl then ran back happily.
He turned his head, and Jiufang Cangze was looking at him with a mischievous expression.
Qiu Fuxue took a bite of a pastry, trying to hide his embarrassment. “Do you want to lose your eyes?”
“Of course I don’t.” Jiufang Cangze said with a smile. “If I lose my eyes, how will I look at you?”
“Slick talker.”
The carriage was very spacious. Even with four people, it wouldn’t feel crowded. But Jiufang Cangze, in his pursuit of getting close, made it feel very cozy.
He leaned in, looking mischievous. “A-Xue, just now… did you accept me?”
Qiu Fuxue quickly gave him an elbow to the ribs. “What about just now? Did something happen just now?”
His eyes were cold, containing a warning.
Jiufang Cangze shrunk his neck and shook his head frantically. “Nothing happened.”
“Hmph!”
