- Chapter 78 - Meeting an Old Friend in the Library
“A-Xue…” Jiufang Cangze called out to him weakly.
Qiu Fuxue noticed he was awake but showed no sign of concern. “Hurry up and help me find a book. The bottom left corner of the cover is missing.”
Jiufang Cangze endured the pain and climbed to his feet, his lips twitching. “What’s wrong with you? You’re in the mood to look for books at a time like this… Aren’t you afraid of Ye Chu breaking in?”
He finally realized why the place felt familiar. It was clearly the library of the Azure Gloom Palace. They had hidden themselves in a den of thieves.
Qiu Fuxue was quick with his hands and equally quick with his words. “It’s fine. I can still take care of myself.”
“…What about me?” Jiufang Cangze said with a pained expression. He realized Qiu Fuxue was going to sacrifice him.
Few people ever entered the library, but the neatly arranged books were all in disarray. Qiu Fuxue visited this place often. He intuitively knew that Ye Chu had discovered something and had likely messed up the order of the books.
Jiufang Cangze casually picked up a book and opened it. Oh, a romance novel he had collected.
Hmm, it’s pretty good.
He quietly hid the book in his robe and moved closer to Qiu Fuxue. “Half of these books I stole from the human realm to look cultured. So? Is there something you need in that book?”
“Yes.” Qiu Fuxue nodded without explaining. He looked at the top shelf, which he couldn’t reach, and ordered Jiufang Cangze to bring all the books down for him.
Jiufang Cangze complained to himself as he worked. His wounds hadn’t even dried yet, and he was being used as a laborer.
The ancient book with a missing corner on its cover lay quietly on the ground. Qiu Fuxue exclaimed, picked it up, and dusted it off. “I found it!”
“Huh?” Jiufang Cangze leaned over. “The Annals of the Divine Sect? It sounds like some kind of religion.”
Qiu Fuxue put the book away. “I once saw fragments about the Primordial God recorded in it.”
The Primordial God again. Jiufang Cangze secretly cursed him in his heart. Everything was that old man’s fault.
Now that they had what they needed, the little sword spirit appeared and grew larger, ready to carry them away. Just then, Qiu Fuxue’s expression changed. He roared at a bookshelf in the corner. “Who’s there!”
A rustling came from the dark corner, and a shadow shot out and hugged Jiufang Cangze tightly.
“Waaaaah! Your Excellency! You’ve finally come back!”
A slender body held him and wouldn’t let go. Jiufang Cangze was covered in wounds. The sudden strong touch made him gasp. “Ugh… let go!”
“Du Xiaoshuang?” Qiu Fuxue squinted, his gaze unkind. “What are you doing here?”
Du Xiaoshuang ignored him and clung to Jiufang Cangze like a lifeline. He sobbed and whimpered. “Your Excellency, those people outside are so scary… Take me with you.”
Jiufang Cangze couldn’t even protect himself. He was desperate to distance himself from him. After a lot of effort, he finally broke free. “A-Xue! You saw it! He came at me on his own!”
Qiu Fuxue glared at him, a look of disgust on his face. “So dirty.”
The commotion inside quickly alerted the guards. Several figures with weapons surrounded the library door. “There’s someone inside!”
“I’ll deal with you later!” Qiu Fuxue said coldly. He waved his sleeve to cast a spell. The sword spirit’s body swelled, and a black fog filled the entire library.
The guards carefully approached the library. The door creaked open from the inside, and then a thick fog suddenly rushed out!
“…Ah!”
“Ouch!”
The fog obscured their vision. Flashes of sword light shot through it. After a series of screams, the guards were lying all over the ground in a messy heap.
It had taken some time to find the book. By the time Qiu Fuxue and the others returned to the Thousand Thoughts Sect, Jing An had already been picked up by Lan Shiyi)’s men and taken to the City Lord’s residence in Sunset City. Lunling was also taken care of by Li Yun .
“Go and see him… go and see him!”
Xu Wan’s small body held on to Qing Shu ‘s arm, pulling him towards the room with all his might.
Qing Shu’s face looked helpless. “Aiya… I’ve done everything I can for him. He’s not going to die. He’ll be fine in a few days of rest.”
“But…” Xu Wan’s expression was on the verge of tears. “But he’s always in so much pain… so much pain!”
Jiufang Cangze saw this scene as he arrived. He was also in a lot of pain, and very envious. He quietly looked at Qiu Fuxue, wishing that A-Xue would care about him that much someday.
“Your Excellency…” Just then, Du Xiaoshuang suddenly tugged on his sleeve, wanting to burrow into his arms.
Damn him…!
To save himself, Jiufang Cangze quickly ran in front of Xu Wan to get justice. “Why are you bullying a child like this, Qing Shu! Just go see him! It’s not like it’s going to kill you!”
“It’s not…” Qing Shu pointed at him, unable to speak for a long time. Finally, he gave a grim smile and nodded. “Alright, alright… Your Excellency, you should come too, right?”
With that, he dragged Jiufang Cangze into the room. Xu Wan saw this and hurried inside as well.
A gentle breeze blew over, rustling the fallen leaves. Qiu Fuxue scoffed and turned to look at Du Xiaoshuang.
The latter shrunk his neck. He was timid but still not afraid of death. “Your Excellency is here. You can’t bully me!”
The sword sheath hit his leg with a thud. It was so fast that one couldn’t even see the afterimage. Du Xiaoshuang let out a shriek and knelt on the ground.
“Since you like him so much, I’ll have you both kneel as punishment later.”
As soon as he said that, Li Yun walked over. “Senior Brother?”
The cold eyes instantly melted into a pool of gentle water. Qiu Fuxue flashed a faint smile. “A-Yun, I’m back.”
There was a lot of noise coming from the room behind them. Because of the arrival of these demons, Li Yun had been very busy arranging things. His face was a bit tired. “Yes, I’ve arranged everything for them. Senior Brother should go back and rest.”
Qiu Fuxue felt apologetic. “I’m sorry, A-Yun. You’ve been handling all the sect’s mundane affairs. You’ve been wronged.”
He was the sect leader, but Li Yun had taken on most of the work for him.
“Senior Brother, that’s too formal.” Li Yun said with a smile, putting his arm around his senior brother’s arm. It was then that he noticed the person kneeling at their feet.
“Who is he…?”
“Du Xiaoshuang,” Qiu Fuxue said indifferently.
A hint of ferocity appeared in Li Yun’s eyes. He had, of course, heard this name. This was the person who had bullied his senior brother at the Azure Gloom Palace by pouring hot tea on him.
“How can such filth step into the Thousand Thoughts Sect?”
“You…!” Du Xiaoshuang looked up unwillingly, but he flinched when he met the other’s eyes and swallowed the rest of his words.
Here, it seems His Excellency can’t protect him.
“I didn’t want him to come in, but it was an emergency, and there was nothing I could do.” Qiu Fuxue glanced at him and said to Li Yun, “I’m going to check on Lunling and the others. I’ll leave this guy to you.”
When Li Yun was cruel, he was even more ruthless than a demon. He simply said, “Okay.” The look in his eyes as he stared at Du Xiaoshuang was like he was looking at a lamb to be slaughtered.
“I heard you were the one who poured hot tea on my Senior Brother?”
“Ugh… I… no… Ahhhhh!”
