- Chapter 73 - Ying's Demise and Return as a Pendant
Having used up too much of her power to create the pigment, Ying was no match for a full-powered Qiu Fuxue .
A sharp sword thrust into the heart of the formation. Instantly, countless white light chains shot out from the center, interlacing to form a large net that descended from the sky and firmly trapped Ying within it.
The wolves, who had been blocked by the barrier outside the town, had been baring their fangs and looking fierce. But they miraculously calmed down after Ying was trapped in the net. After standing and watching for a moment, they left.
Qiu Fuxue stood in front of Ying and said sharply, “You still won’t admit that the wolves were here because of you!”
Ying was bound by a net woven from dark light. She was now a small ball, only slightly larger than the sword spirit. She remained silent for a long time, refusing to speak.
From behind the short wall, however, a series of fierce crashes suddenly rang out.
Jiufang Cangze scrambled out, rolling and crawling, and hid behind Qiu Fuxue.
Shengyan then jumped out. He was holding the long spear he had just snatched, his face filled with righteous indignation. He swore he would stab him through. “Chuanze! How dare you defile my deity! I will not rest until you are dead!”
Qiu Fuxue frowned. He threw Jiufang Cangze back to them, letting them fight. “So noisy.”
The net trapping Ying shrank smaller and smaller. He raised his sword, ready to strike and finish this troublesome fiend.
“Stop!” Xue Linw came out of the courtyard in his wheelchair, holding a dagger to his neck.
He stared into Qiu Fuxue’s eyes and said word by word, “Cai’er has signed a life-and-death contract with me. If you kill her, I will also become a spirit buried by your hand.”
A righteous sect would never kill an innocent person.
Unfortunately, Qiu Fuxue had already been through this once.
He spun his fingers. After Ying fell into his palm, he walked to Xue Linwu. “I once tried my best to protect an entire village. But because I made one mistake, they all worked together to cast me into an abyss.”
Xue Linwu gripped the dagger tightly, not understanding why he was suddenly saying this.
Qiu Fuxue’s expression grew more and more sorrowful. “You are just like those people. You’re trying to manipulate me. If anything doesn’t go your way, you’ll throw me away like I’m worth nothing.”
He paused, then raised his sword and pointed it at Xue Linwu’s heart. “Do you really think I wouldn’t dare to kill you?”
Xue Linwu lowered his dagger, a bitter smile on his face. “I am the son of a disgraced official. No matter where I go, I am at a dead end. If I weren’t desperate, I wouldn’t have resorted to this. Sir, you are a just person. I only ask that you let Cai’er and I say our final words.”
“There’s no need for that.” Qiu Fuxue said coldly. “A fiend’s soul is in the wall. If you kill their body, their soul will not perish. If you are willing to break the life-and-death contract, I can guarantee that I will return Ying’s remains to you.”
Xue Linwu sighed softly. “You say all that, and you still want me to break the life-and-death contract. What use is it to hold a set of remains in the future? This contract cannot be broken. Just strike me with your sword and let Cai’er and I perish together.”
Qiu Fuxue tossed Ying into the air and swung his sword. “As you wish.”
Xue Linwu closed his eyes, silently waiting for death to come. But after a long time, the pain he had imagined never came.
He opened his eyes. Bits of starlight fell before him with the snowflakes.
Qiu Fuxue grabbed a bit of light and used a spell to solidify it. He threw it to the person who was fighting. “Jiufang Cangze!”
Jiufang Cangze heard someone call him. He immediately kicked Shengyan aside and expertly caught the thing that was thrown to him.
“You like making pendants, don’t you? Make it and give it to Painter Xue. Consider it my payment for the painting.”
Xue Linwu was still in a daze, not understanding why the life-and-death contract had not worked.
Qiu Fuxue, in a final act of kindness, explained. “I told you. Ying’s soul is in the wall. As long as her soul doesn’t perish, the life-and-death contract won’t take effect.”
In truth, Jiufang Cangze didn’t like making pendants. At the time, he had only seen it as a toy to tease the little guy with.
But he didn’t dare to say so. He quickly strung a thread through it and handed it to Xue Linwu.
Xue Linwu naturally did not want to accept this outcome, but Qiu Fuxue only left the pendant for him, then waved his sleeve and left.
On the way out, Shengyan’s brain was still a bit scrambled.
“What did Sect Leader Qiu just call you?” He turned stiffly to Jiufang Cangze.
The latter raised his head, not caring in the least. “Chuanze.”
“No…” Shengyan slapped himself. “I clearly heard four words!”
Then he stared at the scar on Jiufang Cangze’s forehead, his expression suspicious. “I’ve been meaning to ask you, what is that thing on your forehead? It doesn’t look like a scar.”
Jiufang Cangze said shamelessly, “A birthmark.”
“…”
“Sect Leader Qiu!” Shengyan couldn’t get any answers. He ran to Qiu Fuxue’s side, every nerve in his body on the verge of a breakdown. “Who exactly is he?! You two are so familiar. It’s nothing like you just met!”
Qiu Fuxue was holding Little Sootball. He wanted to stay out of it, but this guy wouldn’t give up. “You’re the one who chose your friends poorly. What does this have to do with me?”
Shengyan wanted to cry. He had a good idea of what was going on, and his pure, passionate heart was already full of holes. He roared angrily at Jiufang Cangze. “I treated you like a brother, and you treated me like a joke!!”
Jiufang Cangze tried his best to hold back his laughter, but the corners of his mouth still turned up. “I treated you like a brother too. Let’s just pretend nothing happened and continue as we are.”
“How can it be the same?! You’re…”
Before he could finish, Qiu Fuxue’s expression turned grim. He raised his foot and kicked Shengyan out of the way.
In just an instant, a dark arrow flew to the spot where he had been standing.
“Demons?” Jiufang Cangze said in a low voice, his back against Qiu Fuxue’s.
The sword was drawn from its sheath. The latter tossed the little guy in his arms to him. “I’ll handle this. Take Shengyan and hide.”
“Mmm.” Jiufang Cangze nodded and once again dragged Shengyan away from the battle scene.
He knew Qiu Fuxue’s ability, and he knew his own. Staying there would only be a hindrance to the other person.
Shengyan hid behind a large rock with Jiufang Cangze and peeked out. He saw a group of demonic assassins appear from nowhere and fight fiercely with Qiu Fuxue.
“What’s going on?! Who are they after?! Aren’t you a demon lord?”
Jiufang Cangze tucked Qiu Fuxue’s precious little one into his robes. He didn’t want to answer a single question. “You said it yourself. The demon realm was bullied so much by Immortal Lord Fuxue that they’ve already replaced two demon lords.”
“But that’s just a rumor!” Shengyan patted the rock in front of him in excitement. Suddenly, a dark arrow shot past his head, and he immediately quieted down.
Jiufang Cangze scoffed. “A traitor appeared among my subordinates. These people are probably here to kill me.”
There weren’t many assassins in this wave, so Qiu Fuxue dealt with them easily. After finishing off the last one, he shook the blood from his sword and immediately found Jiufang Cangze.
The latter was squatting on the ground. In the blink of an eye, he was pulled up by his collar. “I’ve solved so much of your trouble. You have to work at the Thousand Thoughts Sect for at least ten years to pay me back!”
With that, he reached his hand into his collar.
A hint of red appeared on Jiufang Cangze’s face. “A-Xue… this isn’t appropriate here…”
Little Sootball: “Aww, aww—!”
