- Chapter 52 - Humanity and Divinity
Upon hearing this, Qiu Fuxue turned to look at Jiufang Cangze .
Yu Jian followed his gaze and only then noticed the person standing behind them.
The man was wearing ragged clothes and was rather unremarkable, a stark contrast to Qiu Fuxue’s simple yet elegant attire.
He poked Qiu Fuxue and whispered, “Who is he? He looks so familiar.”
Yu Jian had only ever seen Jiufang Cangze from a distance in a crowded area. Seeing him up close, he found him familiar, but he couldn’t connect him with the Demon Lord.
Li Yun let out a chuckle and said mockingly, “He’s talking about you, Jiufang Cangze.”
Jiufang Cangze folded his arms and scoffed, already used to not being recognized.
He used to have a lavish wardrobe, discarding robes almost as soon as he wore them. The Qingming Palace even had a special workshop just for making his clothes. But now that he was here, Qiu Fuxue didn’t care about such trivial matters, and Li Yun, under the pretense of him being an outsider, ruthlessly cut back on his food and clothing.
Qiu Fuxue didn’t say anything, and Yu Jian was momentarily shocked. He then realized that since they were in the Thousand Thoughts Sect, the Demon Lord wouldn’t dare to punish him for his disrespect.
“My Lord, listen to me… The general doesn’t actually want to save you. He wants to trick Qiu Fuxue into killing you, then he’ll go back to the Demon Realm and declare you a heroic martyr…”
Jiufang Cangze’s lips twitched. “What a ‘heroic martyr’… Ye Chu will need a lot more skill if he wants to rebel!”
After leaving the dungeon, Qiu Fuxue, as a friend, temporarily settled Yu Jian in the Thousand Thoughts Sect. Then he told Li Yun to leave and took Jiufang Cangze to a secluded forest behind the back peak.
Jiufang Cangze cherished the time he spent alone with him. Even though he could tell that the other person was in a bad mood, it didn’t stop him from shamelessly sticking close.
Qiu Fuxue flicked his sleeve, pushing him back a dozen feet.
“Jiufang Cangze, isn’t there anything you want to tell me?”
Jiufang Cangze looked at the quiet forest. Birds flew overhead. It was a perfect place for lovers.
He couldn’t hide the smile in his eyes. “Yes! A-Xue, I want to say… I love you!”
“Bang—!”
“Ow—!”
The wail startled a flock of birds. Jiufang Cangze knelt on the ground, wailing as he clutched his arm. “You always hit the same spot. Can’t you hit somewhere else? The bruise from last time hasn’t even healed yet…”
Qiu Fuxue held his bright silver sword scabbard, his expression serious. “That’s not what I asked you to say! Jiufang Cangze, stop playing dumb!”
Jiufang Cangze quickly knelt up straight, looking as if he was ready to face whatever punishment was coming.
Qiu Fuxue said angrily, “After all that’s happened, and with Ye Chu plotting in the Demon Realm, you still won’t tell me what the nine fiends of the Moon Shadow Wall (yueying bi, 月影壁) truly are!”
He had fought with Ye Chu before. With his full power restored, the man wasn’t a threat.
But what he feared most was an unforeseen change related to the Moon Shadow Wall.
Jiufang Cangze lowered his head, and his bangs covered his eyes, making it impossible to see the emotions in his crimson pupils.
The sharp sound of the blade being unsheathed filled the air. Qiu Fuxue stepped forward and grabbed his collar, holding Zhengxin’s blade to his neck. He said in a menacing voice, “Do you believe me if I say I’ll kill you right now and take your body to negotiate with Ye Chu?!”
Jiufang Cangze looked up at his eyes. His light-colored pupils were tinged with red, and they had lost some of their former innocence.
At least in the past, he wouldn’t have said such cruel words about killing someone.
A curve appeared on his thin, sharp lips, and Jiufang Cangze suddenly laughed. “A-Xue, you won’t kill me.”
“Even though your body was made with my spiritual core, you have humanity and the divinity passed down from the goddess Taichu (太初).”
Humanity doesn’t allow for wanton killing, and divinity loves all living things.
Qiu Fuxue’s hand, which was clutching into a fist, tightened. He suddenly raised his hand and punched the other man in the face.
The punch was full of force. Jiufang Cangze’s body swayed from the impact. His cheek instantly swelled, and a streak of blood appeared at the corner of his mouth.
He knelt on the ground listlessly, his voice low but filled with an indescribable emotion.
“A-Xue, perhaps I didn’t tell you the true forms of the nine fiends for your own good… Do you remember the trial that Taichu arranged?”
Qiu Fuxue looked at him and nodded slightly.
Jiufang Cangze continued, “The wondrous thing about the Moon Shadow Wall is that if you don’t know the nine fiends, you can’t see their true forms. If you can’t see their true forms, they can’t use their full power… If I had told you who the nine fiends were, you might not have been able to pass that simple trial.”
Qiu Fuxue’s body was as cold as ten thousand years of unmelting ice. “So you mean that if I don’t face it, the evil and sinister things in this world won’t happen? That innocent people won’t lose their lives to disasters, is that it?!”
Jiufang Cangze remained silent. His path was different from Qiu Fuxue’s. He only wanted to protect the person in front of him.
“All nine fiends have escaped… The Moon Shadow Wall is just an empty shell now…”
“What?!” Qiu Fuxue was shocked. After the Cloud Calamity (劫雲), he hadn’t seen the evil spirits do anything evil, so he had thought the Moon Shadow Wall’s seal had been restored.
Jiufang Cangze wiped the corner of his mouth with his hand. His fingers were a startling crimson. “Ye Chu and I used to have a very good relationship, but I don’t know when, we suddenly grew distant. Gradually, I sensed his rebellious heart.”
“Because the Moon Shadow Wall’s seal was unstable, I found an excuse to transfer him to the border. What a coincidence. As soon as he left, all nine fiends escaped. Then the Moon Shadow Wall collapsed, and I was so severely affected by the red moon that I couldn’t even cross the immortal-demon barrier.”
“The Moon Shadow Wall is empty now…” Qiu Fuxue mumbled. “So the mer-person didn’t know the other nine fiends had escaped?”
“That’s right.” Jiufang Cangze sighed, looking a little tired. “He was in a hurry to release the Moon Shadow Wall. The most important reason, in fact, is that their power is sealed within the Moon Shadow Wall.”
He then let out a light sigh. “A-Xue, don’t worry. The nine fiends are hiding in the world. Sooner or later, you’ll see them.”
With this, all the previous strangeness about the Moon Shadow Wall made sense.
Qiu Fuxue’s tone changed, and he suddenly asked, “Jiufang Cangze, do you know that Ye Chu has a lover whom he hides in his manor, disguised as a guard?”
Jiufang Cangze was stunned. “I only know that he was very close to that guard. I thought he was just a male favorite.”
“He’s not a male favorite,” Qiu Fuxue shook his head. “Gu Mian is almost half the master of the general’s manor. Ye Chu intentionally hid him. Perhaps it’s related to the rift between you two.”
As he spoke, he walked behind Jiufang Cangze and mercilessly hit his lower back with the hard sword scabbard. “Kneel properly! You can go back in half an hour.”
Jiufang Cangze immediately straightened his back. The tension in his heart slowly eased.
The sound of footsteps grew distant. He didn’t expect that Qiu Fuxue would let him off after only confessing a little bit.
“A-Xue!”
Qiu Fuxue heard him and turned his head. The beauty mark under his eye looked animated.
Jiufang Cangze smiled brightly and said out of the blue, “You’re so beautiful.”
“…”
His mind is clouded by lust!
