- After His Demise, the Demon Lord's Doted Canary Finally Sees the Light
- Chapter 40 - The Fiendish Shadow Appears at the Sect
Qiu Fuxue pushed Jiufang Cangze’s waist, shoving him off the desk. He threatened, “Jiufang Cangze! This is the Thousand Thoughts Sect. If you don’t stop this nonsense, I will send you back to the Demon Realm!”
The other man was unconcerned. “You’d release a tiger back into the mountains?”
Qiu Fuxue replied curtly, “You know whether you’re a tiger or a stray dog.”
There were so many demons in the Demon Realm coveting the Demon Lord’s position. If Jiufang Cangze were to return now, having lost his cultivation, he would surely be torn to shreds by that bloodthirsty lot.
Apart from Sha Ying none of his subordinates were truly loyal; they were only afraid of his power.
Before leaving the Immortal Realm, Jiufang Cangze didn’t want to stay and be tormented by Taichu anymore, but he couldn’t return to the Demon Realm. So, following Qiu Fuxue back to the Thousand Thoughts Sect became his best option.
Taichu was always intentionally trying to send Jiufang Cangze to his side. Qiu Fuxue couldn’t refuse his “generosity,” nor did he have much of a sadistic streak. But now, just seeing the demon lord made him feel suffocated.
“A-Xue, you can’t be so cruel,” Jiufang Cangze said, reaching for the hand resting on the desk. “Give me a chance to woo you again, will you?”
“Crack—!”
After a sharp smack, Jiufang Cangze rubbed his red, stinging hand, his face full of grievance.
The lotus was naturally aloof. Besides those he trusted, he extremely disliked being touched by others. In the past, he couldn’t help himself, but now this tactless fool was still trying to take liberties.
“Get out! Or go into solitary confinement!”
The current situation between the Immortal and Demon Realms was relatively stable. Before Jiufang Cangze did something too outrageous, Qiu Fuxue didn’t want to break that balance.
The birth of a new Demon Lord would undoubtedly bring another bloodbath.
After kicking the unreliable man out, Qiu Fuxue handled some more paperwork, then stood up to stretch and prepare for bed.
However, just then, that annoying fellow returned.
But at least this time, he didn’t come empty-handed. He came with gifts.
“Here, eat while it’s hot!”
Jiufang Cangze placed a food box on the table and opened each container, arranging them in front of Qiu Fuxue.
All kinds of delicious snacks were steaming, giving off an enticing aroma.
The lotus, who had been deprived of food since childhood, couldn’t resist.
Jiufang Cangze watched the other man’s expression soften and secretly gave a small, triumphant smile. “A few shops were still open down the mountain. I bought everything I could for you.”
Qiu Fuxue wasn’t hungry, but that didn’t stop him from indulging his craving.
He sat back at his desk and suddenly remembered something important. “Where did you get the money?”
Jiufang Cangze licked his lips, his deep voice sounding a little awkward. “Your Thousand Thoughts Sect’s guards are too lax. I simply ‘borrowed’ a few things as I passed by.”
He wondered if the disciple who later discovered their money pouch was missing would be heartbroken all night.
Qiu Fuxue’s temples throbbed. “Don’t ever do it again!”
The other man replied insincerely, “Your words are a lesson, Immortal Lord!”
The food was bought to his liking. Halfway through the meal, Qiu Fuxue belatedly realized that in the past, he would have been sitting on Jiufang Cangze’s lap, being fed these very things.
An unknown fire burned in his heart. He was nearly finished eating anyway, so he put down his chopsticks and kicked both the person and the leftover food out.
He felt no guilt for kicking someone out right after eating.
The next morning, Qiu Fuxue woke from his sleep. His ink-black hair, like satin, slid from his shoulders. He grabbed the ribbon by his pillow—the same one Li Yun had given him—and tied it up.
His understanding of emotions was shallow, but in his heart, he subconsciously felt that if nothing went wrong, he and A-Yun would continue to be together for a long time.
He put aside the little paperwork he had left, got dressed, and prepared to go down the mountain to investigate the Tribulation Cloud that had appeared in Sunset City.
According to Li Yun and Jiufang Cangze’s descriptions, the Tribulation Cloud must have been what led them to his body in the mass grave after Yuan Lietian had thrown him there.
The Primordial Deity had told him to deal with the Nine Fiends as soon as possible. Besides the two that Jiufang Cangze had killed, the rest should be sealed within the Moon Shadow Wall. The Tribulation Cloud just happened to have the ability to send them into the Moon Shadow Wall.
It was early morning, and there were few disciples on the mountain path. A few who saw Qiu Fuxue bowed respectfully before quickly leaving. They seemed to be afraid of their former senior brother, who was now their new sect leader.
Qiu Fuxue sighed to himself. He figured he had been too intimidating on the day he returned.
At some point, green vines had started to grow at the foot of the mountain. People hurrying by gave them a glance but paid them no mind.
However, as he turned a corner on the mountain path, a cold sword intent neatly severed the green vines overhead. Qiu Fuxue said coldly, “Since you’re here, why not show yourself?”
“Tsk.” Lun Ling jumped out from the shadows, a look of disappointment on his face. “My little beauty has become fierce. Or should I call you… Sect Leader Qiu, now?”
Qiu Fuxue held his wooden sword. “What are you doing here?”
Lun Ling cleared his throat. “Naturally, I’ve come to take my Lord back.”
Qiu Fuxue’s brows furrowed. He had just become sect leader. The three elders who were still alive had been forced to step down for various reasons, and he didn’t have many trusted aides. That was why he had hidden Jiufang Cangze’s identity and concealed his demonic energy before letting him into the Thousand Thoughts Sect.
No other disciple in the sect had seen the Demon Lord’s true face. How did Lun Ling know Jiufang Cangze was here?
With a mind full of doubts, Qiu Fuxue’s eyes flickered. “The Thousand Thoughts Sect isn’t a place you can just come and go as you please.”
Lun Ling had expected him to be unwilling to give the man up easily. “What are your terms? Or should I have a fight with you?”
Qiu Fuxue’s expression suddenly softened, and a smile appeared on his lips. “Lun Ling, you helped me a lot in the Demon Realm before. I won’t make things too difficult for you.”
With that, he leaned in close and whispered a few words.
“Is that a good deal?”
“Ugh…” Lun Ling rubbed the back of his head in a troubled manner. “That’s so much trouble. How about we just have my Lord marry into your sect instead?”
Qiu Fuxue let out a cold laugh. “Since you’ve already come, I can’t let you go back empty-handed. If you don’t agree, I’ll send people to bring Jiufang Cangze down in pieces. You can put him back together yourself.”
It seemed that under the influence of a certain demon, the once pure and innocent white lotus had also been tainted with a hint of wickedness.
To prevent the Lord from being torn to shreds, Lun Ling had no choice but to bravely step into the trap that had been laid for him.
“…I agree, but you have to promise to return my Lord to me in one piece.”
“Naturally.” Qiu Fuxue said, his face serious.
The green vines receded. As Lun Ling left, a faint smell of blood lingered in the air.
It seemed that the bloody storm in the Demon Realm had already begun.
Having been spared a trip, Qiu Fuxue turned back to the sect. The moment he stepped inside, a large figure pounced on him.
He dodged with agility, and with a tap of his wooden sword against the other’s knee, the figure fell to his knees in a clumsy manner.
“The sect has strict rules. There is a time for horseplay. Kneel here.”
Jiufang Cangze refused to accept the punishment, but as the pearls on Qiu Fuxue’s white wrist rattled, a sharp pain shot through him, and he fell to his knees.
“Agh! I’m sorry… I’m sorry! Have mercy!”
Qiu Fuxue gave a displeased hum and tapped his shoulder with the wooden sword. “Kneel properly! You can get up in three hours.”
