- After Going Viral for Exorcism, I Was Kissed Senseless by the Top-Tier Ghost King!
- Chapter 6 - The Fortuneteller’s Confusion
Bai Qingxu found a deserted spot to burn the mop and perform the ritual to release the female ghost’s soul. The flames consumed the mop, sending up a plume of white smoke. Through the haze, Bai Qingxu could see a graceful woman looking at him with a beaming smile.
“May your reincarnation be healthy and happy,” Bai Qingxu said with a faint smile, offering his blessing to the woman in the smoke.
The woman in the white smoke was the ghost from the mop. Now that Bai Qingxu had performed the ritual, her resentment had dissipated, revealing her true appearance. She was a pleasant and delicate-looking woman.
“Thank you, benefactor! I will surely repay you in my next life. You are truly wonderful! When you said you would release me, you actually did it!” The woman was overjoyed, spinning around as she looked at her true form. “By the way, do you really not want the mop? I am very quick with my chores!”
The benefactor was handsome and kind-hearted; she truly wanted to be taken home by him.
Bai Qingxu was speechless. Did this ghost truly love mops that much?
“I really do not need it, thank you. Just focus on being a good human in your next life.”
Bai Qingxu increased the speed of his chanting, wanting to finish releasing this bubbly ghost as quickly as possible. The fire grew smaller and the white smoke gradually faded, finally leaving behind only a small pile of white ash. As the wind blew, the ash scattered. However, in a corner unnoticed by Bai Qingxu, a final wisp of green smoke twisted and struggled before vanishing into the night.
At that moment, the sound of footsteps echoed behind Bai Qingxu. His gaze sharpened as he caught a familiar scent of ghost energy. He wondered if it was that man from yesterday.
Bai Qingxu turned around immediately, only to see a handsome man in a black leather jacket smiling at him. A submissive young assistant followed closely beside him.
“Hello, hello! What were you doing just now?” The man in the leather jacket greeted Bai Qingxu with great enthusiasm.
It was not him.
Bai Qingxu felt inexplicably disappointed and lost interest. However, seeing the handsome man greet him, he still displayed a perfect, flawless smile that was gentle and polite, yet distant.
“Hello. Goodbye.”
The man in the leather jacket was stunned. Did he have a sore on his face or a bump on his head? Why was this guy running away already?
“Bai Qingxu, do not leave! Did you not see my Brother Meng calling you?” the young assistant shouted. He jogged forward and grabbed Bai Qingxu’s arm with a heavy grip. The previously submissive assistant now acted like a bully in front of Bai Qingxu, causing Bai Qingxu to frown.
“Let go,” Bai Qingxu said indifferently, glancing at the assistant’s hand.
“Bai Qingxu, do you even know who God Meng is? Hurry up and greet him!” the assistant barked while pulling on him. Bai Qingxu continued to smile and warned the assistant once more, though his tone was even softer. “I said let go. Did you hear me?”
As soon as those words were spoken, the assistant could not help but shudder. He instinctively looked at Bai Qingxu and saw the gentle underlying gaze in his eyes. Was Bai Qingxu not always a pushover? How did he just get startled by him? The assistant was secretly alarmed and loosened his grip on Bai Qingxu’s hand.
“Xiao Li, stop it,” the man in the leather jacket finally spoke, looking at Bai Qingxu with a slight apology. The assistant finally let go with resentment and walked behind the man with his head lowered.
“I am sorry. My assistant just has a quick temper; he meant no offense.” The man ignored Bai Qingxu’s distant attitude and continued to smile, revealing a row of snow-white teeth. He teased, “I saw you burning something just now. It was not paper offerings for CEO Cao, was it?”
The story of Bai Qingxu beating up Cao Qiang was already common knowledge. However, Meng Ze clearly did not know that Bai Qingxu was hated by the entire internet. After all, Bai Qingxu was only an obscure eighteenth-line artist, and his past deeds had not reached Meng Ze’s ears. Thus, Meng Ze’s attitude remained warm.
The assistant, however, clearly knew more and found everything about Bai Qingxu irritating. He muttered softly behind his boss, “Daring to provoke CEO Cao, you are dead meat.”
The man in the leather jacket glanced at the assistant, who immediately shut his mouth with a look of grievance. He did not understand why his boss was being so polite to this “cancer of the entertainment industry.”
“Actually, it was not,” Bai Qingxu tried to explain.
“Say no more, I know you want to keep a low profile! I understand, I understand.” The man approached Bai Qingxu and patted his shoulder with an air of knowing exactly what was happening.
Bai Qingxu thought to himself that the man did not understand anything at all.
The man in the leather jacket nodded with satisfaction when he saw Bai Qingxu staying quietly beside him.
“Come on, everyone, look at this handsome guy! Start sending those gifts!” the man shouted, looking at the livestream comments on his phone. He expected the popularity of the room to skyrocket.
Indeed, the comments began to fly across the screen.
“Holy Spirit! Why is Bai Qingxu here too? My eyes are burning!” “Brother Meng, why are you filming him!” “What did that trash say just now? Burning paper?” “Help, this is so unlucky!” “Please, everyone, step over a brazier to wash off the bad luck.” “I will go first!” “Ah! Brother Meng, do not go near this guy!” “Turn the camera, Brother Meng! We only want to see you! We do not want to see this disgusting person!”
“Hmm?” Meng Ze saw the content of the comments and was very surprised to find they were overwhelmingly negative. “My fans do not seem to like you very much.”
Bai Qingxu had long expected this and nodded in response. Not only your fans, but probably every fan in the entertainment industry dislikes me. His reputation with the public had soured to the point where even a passing ant might spit on him.
He sighed inwardly. He did not know what sins the original owner of this body had committed; despite being a little lamb, he had been painted as a big bad wolf.
“What is he pretending for? Brother Meng is talking to you!” “Damn, so rude. Seeing is believing; he is just as disgusting as the rumors say.” “Can you just get lost?” “I bet he was burning paper for himself! Gross!” “Seeing that face makes me sick!”
Meng Ze did not know about Bai Qingxu’s long list of crimes in the industry. He had only called out to him because the boy was handsome and could boost his livestream numbers. He had not expected such intense hostility. Suddenly curious about what kind of bad luck this youth was under to have such terrible public appeal, he began to study Bai Qingxu’s facial features carefully.
What he found shocked him.
How is this happening? Why is it like this? Meng Ze’s heart skipped a beat as a chill spread from the bottom of his soul. As a veteran fortuneteller and physiognomist, he had read thousands of faces and calculated countless fates. How could he possibly fail to read the destiny of an ordinary person?
He could even decipher the traits of non-human entities to some degree. Yet, this time, he gained nothing. Who exactly was this youth in front of him?
The assistant could not stand seeing his boss being so polite to an obscure artist and could not help but grumble, “Is he not just a cancer of the industry? What is he acting for? He does not even greet his seniors and even dares to glare at me.”
His voice was just loud enough for Bai Qingxu to hear, and the livestream audience heard it as well. If an artist had no reaction after being insulted by an assistant like this, it would be a huge embarrassment and they would be mocked. However, if they did react, they would still be called narrow-minded.
Regardless of the reaction, the result would be more hate. The assistant counted on this fact to mock Bai Qingxu on camera. He deliberately wanted to humiliate him; after all, Bai Qingxu was just a nobody, and he was not afraid of him. The assistant looked at Bai Qingxu with contempt.
“Hahaha, a nobody is just a nobody, even an assistant can walk all over him.” “That is exactly how it should be. Treat this menace like this until he gets kicked out of the industry!” “Being mocked like that and Bai Qingxu has no reaction? His lungs must be bursting with anger! Hilarious!”
For a moment, the atmosphere turned cold.
