After Getting Pregnant, I’m Divorcing My Alpha - Chapter 39
“Ready?” The TV station staff member pushed open the dressing room door.
“Ah, sorry, could you wait a little longer?” The makeup artist had been listening to An Xiangdi and the others talking, so her movements had slowed considerably.
“No problem, there’s another artist scheduled before Teacher An. Just try to speed up a bit.” The staff member noticed the small bun tied on An Xiangdi’s head and estimated it would take a while longer.
“Alright, I’ll be done right away.” The makeup artist immediately quickened her pace.
The public service announcement video they were recording today was about environmental protection. An Xiangdi’s casual clothes looked quite good, so the stylist didn’t make him change.
Walking to the recording area, the previous artist was still filming. An Xiangdi leaned against the wall to wait.
Shen Xiao sent several messages in a row.
Xiao Xiao: Arrived in Pingbei?
Xiao Xiao: I’m staying at Luting.
Xiao Xiao: Need to visit Cheng Youyi’s place later.
Xiao Xiao: I’ll pick you up when I’m done.
An Xiangdi lowered his head and tapped rapidly on the keyboard.
Dizi: His place?
Dizi: The Jiang family?
Xiao Xiao: He’s from a branch family, lives on his own.
Xiao Xiao: Just him alone, don’t worry.
“Teacher An, it’s your turn now.” Xiao Gu stood nearby, quietly reminding An Xiangdi.
“Oh, alright.” Putting away his phone, An Xiangdi walked in front of the camera.
For these kinds of public service videos, several template scripts were usually provided beforehand, and artists could improvise based on the situation.
An Xiangdi, articulate and clear-thinking, combined advocacy with the current context and finished recording quickly.
After stepping away from the camera, Yao Honglang called out to him: “Shen Xiao is coming to pick you up. He’s already on the way. Do you want to wait here or go back to the car?”
Yao Honglang’s voice was quite loud, and with Shen Xiao’s likes and comments still trending on hot searches, people around immediately started teasing.
“Teacher An and Teacher Shen really have a great relationship!”
“Yeah! I heard you two are childhood sweethearts?”
“These days, it’s really rare for childhood sweethearts to last this long.”
An Xiangdi let them talk, pretending not to hear: “You all go ahead first. I’ll wait here by myself for a while.”
“Alright, contact me if anything comes up.” Yao Honglang waved to Xiao Gu and left the TV station with him.
An Xiangdi sat in the empty lounge, removed his makeup, put on a hat, and closed his eyes to rest on the sofa.
At one point, a staff member came into the lounge to tidy up. He moved aside and wandered casually around the floor.
Since becoming pregnant, the doctor had advised him that sitting too much wasn’t good he needed to move around more to help with the delivery. Passersby who saw An Xiangdi didn’t find it strange and greeted him excitedly.
His phone rang abruptly it was Shen Xiao calling, likely because he was nearby.
“I’m one intersection away. Which floor are you on?” Shen Xiao drove with one hand while putting a Bluetooth earpiece in his ear with the other.
“I’ll come down. I’ll wait for you at the TV station entrance.”
“Okay, be careful when coming downstairs.”
“Mm.” Hanging up, An Xiangdi walked to the elevator and pressed the down button.
As a hallway cleaner passed by, their cart accidentally scraped against his clothes. The cleaner flusteredly apologized, their Mandarin not very standard: “Sor young man, sorrey ah!”
“It’s fine.” An Xiangdi straightened the hem of his shirt that had been tugged out. As he withdrew his gaze, he happened to see someone entering the stairwell not far away.
That person’s face was all too familiar. An Xiangdi froze in place, disbelief written all over his face.
“Excuse me.” An Xiangdi hurriedly pushed the cart aside and dashed along the wall.
By the time he reached the stairwell, the person had already vanished.
Leaning one hand on the stair railing, An Xiangdi panted slightly from the run.
The dimness of the stairwell plunged him into deep thought. After a long while, he shook his head, inwardly mocking himself for being absurd.
How could someone who was already dead come back to life? He must have been hallucinating.
“Young man, are you alright?” The cleaner’s voice interrupted An Xiangdi’s wandering thoughts.
“I’m fine.” An Xiangdi withdrew his hand and returned to the hallway from the stairwell.
“The elevator’s here. I’m holding it for you,” the cleaner said, pointing toward the elevator.
“Thank you.”
“No problem, no problem. You’re pregnant, you can’t run that fast, you know?”
Reminded of this, An Xiangdi reflexively placed a hand on his stomach. “Yes, I know.”
Taking the elevator downstairs, An Xiangdi saw Shen Xiao from a distance entering the TV station and standing in the lobby. A crowd had gathered around him, mostly asking for autographs.
Shen Xiao had no scheduled activities at Pingbei TV Station today, and everyone was puzzled as to why he was there. Just then, they saw Shen Xiao move.
Walking up to An Xiangdi, Shen Xiao lifted the brim of his hat slightly. “Let’s go.”
Some in the crowd grew extremely excited, clutching their companions’ hands and whispering excitedly. The thrill of seeing their favorite couple interact in person was overwhelming.
An Xiangdi, completely unfazed by the attention, stood at the center of the crowd, basking in the adoration and even waving to everyone with a cheerful smile. Shen Xiao turned his face back, preventing him from looking. “Get in the car. The air conditioning is still on.”
An Xiangdi wrapped an arm around Shen Xiao’s waist, not backing down in the slightest.
Once inside the car, An Xiangdi relaxed, holding his lunchbox and eating pieces of fruit with a toothpick.
Shen Xiao adjusted the direction of the air conditioning to avoid blowing directly on him. “It might be a bit of a drive. If you’re tired, take a nap.”
“Where does he live?” An Xiangdi was quite curious. He had been to Pingbei several times before, but always for work events, staying in hotels. His impression of Pingbei was limited to traffic jams and crowds.
“In the suburbs. We’ll need to take the highway,” Shen Xiao explained. “He doesn’t usually live in Pingbei either. He’s only staying here recently because Yisheng Entertainment has a lot going on.”
“You two are really close,” An Xiangdi said, suddenly feeling a bit jealous.
Shen Xiao always kept a certain distance from people who approached him, so it was rare to see him so familiar with anyone.
Hearing this, Shen Xiao tightened his grip on the steering wheel. “Dizi, are you jealous?”
“Yeah,” An Xiangdi admitted without hesitation. “Come to think of it, back when we got together, it was because a senior confessed to you.”
The topic shifted, and Shen Xiao glanced at An Xiangdi through the rearview mirror. “No need to bring up old matters.”
An Xiangdi chuckled. “What? Can’t talk about the confession anymore?”
Shen Xiao fell silent.
After joking around, An Xiangdi stared blankly at the scenery outside the car window. It was a weekday afternoon, and the roads weren’t too crowded, so their journey was relatively smooth.
Occasionally, a few young couples passed by on the roadside, stirring up old memories for An Xiangdi.
Back then, it was mostly thanks to his initiative that he and Shen Xiao ended up together. He was the one who fell in love first, and he was also the one who made the first move.
With his high self-esteem and discerning taste, coupled with the fact that Shen Xiao a top-tier Alpha had always been by his side, he couldn’t bring himself to look at anyone else.
In high school, both An Xiangdi and Shen Xiao were very popular. But perhaps because Shen Xiao had presented as an Alpha, the number of people confessing to An Xiangdi dwindled significantly once they entered university. On the contrary, more and more people took a liking to Shen Xiao, openly or discreetly handing him love letters.
An Xiangdi accidentally overheard classmates mentioning that Shen Xiao seemed to have something ambiguous going on with a senior from the student council, and that the senior had even called Shen Xiao out to confess.
An Xiangdi had been brimming with confidence, certain that Shen Xiao would reject her. After all, aside from himself, there was no one else worthy of Shen Xiao’s attention. Yet, just before the holiday break, he heard his roommate teasing Shen Xiao face-to-face.
“I heard you agreed to go out with that senior, Shen?” “Really? I’m so jealous of you, you lucky dog! That senior is fair-skinned, beautiful, long-legged, and a sweet-smelling Omega what’s not to love?”
At that moment, An Xiangdi nearly snapped the pen in his hand. “Shen Xiao, did you agree?”
“I’ll give her an answer after the break,” Shen Xiao replied.
Later, seizing the opportunity of Shen Xiao’s earlier promise to spend a few days at his hometown during the holiday, An Xiangdi cornered him against a desk and confessed in a semi-forceful manner.
Unexpectedly, it went surprisingly smoothly. Not only did Shen Xiao reclaim the initiative after being forcefully kissed, but he also rejected the senior who had confessed to him right in front of An Xiangdi.
Come to think of it, Shen Xiao had never explained why he liked him.
“Shen Xiao, why do you like me?” An Xiangdi’s gaze was intense.
Without hesitation, Shen Xiao replied, “Because you’re both stingy and generous.”
“What?” An Xiangdi had expected Shen Xiao to give a clichéd answer like, “I don’t know why, I just do.” Instead, the man actually called him stingy?
“I love seeing how jealous you get when someone says they like me. Isn’t that being particularly stingy toward others?”
An Xiangdi grew agitated and sat up straight. “So, when others try to steal my Alpha, am I supposed to say, ‘Sure, take him’? Or is that what you want to hear? Next time someone chases after you, I’ll just let them, like that Liang Yao.”
“Generous, because you’ve given me your entire heart. Such an important place, and you’re willing to let me stay there why wouldn’t I like you?” Shen Xiao’s words instantly dissolved An Xiangdi’s anger.
His back, which had stiffened in anger, relaxed for a moment. His throat moved slightly, and he leaned back into his seat.
“I forgive you.”
Shen Xiao curled his lips into a smile. “Dizi, you’re wrong. I don’t just like you I love you.”
“You know it as well as I doneither of us can live without the other.”
An Xiangdi fell silent. It was true he couldn’t live without Shen Xiao. Not because of any illness related to pheromones, but because he had already given away his entire heart, and there was no taking it back.
The black sedan sped along the highway, and over an hour later, it arrived at the villa district located in the suburbs of Pingbei.
After passing several villas with private gardens, Shen Xiao parked the car outside a pure white, three-story villa.
“We’re here.” Shen Xiao pulled out the car keys and opened the car door for An Xiangdi.
“This guy he’s really impressive.” An Xiangdi gazed at the sprawling villa and sighed.
“I thought you were going to say he was born lucky.” Shen Xiao was surprised to hear An Xiangdi praising Cheng Youyi.
“If he were born lucky, wouldn’t he be in the main family instead of a branch line?” Just hearing the term “branch line” made An Xiangdi feel that Cheng Youyi was the one being excluded. “Besides, if he were truly useless, would the Jiang family let him manage a company as big as Yisheng Entertainment alone? Wouldn’t that just tarnish their reputation?”
Shen Xiao ruffled his hair. “Stop paying so much attention to other Alphas.”
“You’re pretty stingy too.” An Xiangdi shot back.
The villa door was pulled open from the inside, and Cheng Youyi stepped out, holding two dogs on leashes, one in each hand.
The three people and two dogs stared at each other in silence until Shen Xiao quickly broke it. “Take the dogs away.”
“Ah! You guys are here already? Wait, I’ll go right now.” Cheng Youyi knew that An Xiangdi, being pregnant, shouldn’t be around cats or dogs. “Hmph, Ha, let’s go, let’s go. Your Brother Shen is about to lose his temper.”
“What are his dogs’ names?” An Xiangdi nudged Shen Xiao with his elbow.
“The dogs are named Hmph and Ha, and the cats are named Two and General.”
“Oh.”
