After Getting Pregnant, I’m Divorcing My Alpha - Chapter 38
When the car drove into the underground parking lot, An Xiangdi was practically clinging to Shen Xiao.
After parking the car, Shen Xiao pulled a coat from the backseat and draped it over An Xiangdi’s head. Holding him by the hips, he carried him all the way back home.
Having spent so much time with An Xiangdi, Shen Xiao had never imagined his self-control would improve to this extent. If this had happened back when he was still in school, he probably wouldn’t have bothered going home and would have dragged An Xiangdi straight to a hotel instead.
“Hot…” An Xiangdi wrapped his arms around Shen Xiao’s neck and coiled his legs around his waist, clinging to him like a koala.
“Then why are you holding on so tightly?” Shen Xiao made as if to set him down.
An Xiangdi panicked, whimpering and tightening his grip even more.
For an Alpha, nothing brought more satisfaction than having their Omega depend on them like this.
Shen Xiao carried An Xiangdi into the bedroom, closed the window, and then pressed him down onto the bed.
Just as An Xiangdi wrapped his arms around him, before Shen Xiao could even lean in for a kiss, he was pushed away. “My stomach.”
Shen Xiao froze for a moment before realizing what An Xiangdi meant. “Since when did you become so picky about positions?”
An Xiangdi, struggling to maintain a sliver of clarity before his heat fully took over, glared at him. “Do you dare argue with your ancestor’s demands?”
“I wouldn’t dare,” Shen Xiao conceded immediately.
This time, An Xiangdi’s heat came on more gradually, not as intense as the last one after he’d been drinking, but it still lasted the full seven days without skipping a day.
By the afternoon of the seventh day, An Xiangdi had mostly recovered from his heat, but he was so exhausted that he fell asleep again. When he opened his eyes, it was already past seven the next morning.
Shen Xiao supported his waist and helped him sit up, placing a cushion behind his back. “Feeling better?”
“Mm.” An Xiangdi’s voice was still hoarse. He took the cup and drank all the warm water inside. “Where’s my phone?”
“Looking for your phone as soon as you wake up?” Shen Xiao sighed helplessly but still handed him the phone, which had somehow ended up on the desk.
“I’m afraid Yao Honglang might be looking for me.” Originally, Yao Honglang had scheduled two relatively light engagements for him over the past few days, but they were probably canceled by now.
“I called him midway and explained the situation.” Shen Xiao brushed aside the stray hairs on An Xiangdi’s forehead and checked his temperature. Only after confirming that the fever from his heat had completely subsided did he stand up. “I’ll bring over the congee.”
“Okay.” Opening his phone, An Xiangdi saw that Yao Honglang had indeed only contacted him during the first two days of his heat and hadn’t sent any messages after that.
Just as he was considering whether to reach out, Yao Honglang seemed to have timed it perfectly and messaged him first.
Yao Honglang: Heat over?
Yao Honglang: There’s a public service short video recording at Pingbei TV Station in three days. I’ll pick you up at 9 a.m. to go to the airport.
An Xiangdi: Sure.
An Xiangdi: What happened to the two events over the past few days? Were they canceled outright?
An Xiangdi: If there are any penalty fees, just deduct them from my activity earnings.
Yao Honglang: They were postponed. One’s moved to the 9th, the other to the 10th. Rest up and get yourself together. Don’t mess this up.
An Xiangdi: Got it.
Exiting the chat, An Xiangdi opened his calendar to mark down the dates.
Before his finger could even touch the screen, he suddenly noticed today’s date.
August 4th.
The dinner he had scheduled with Shen Xiao’s father, Shen Hou, was supposed to be at 2 p.m. on August 3rd.
Well, he’d stood him up.
An Xiangdi frowned, carefully scrolling through his call log. There were no missed calls from Shen Hou.
He hesitated over whether to call Shen Hou’s secretary and ask what had happened. It wasn’t that he was afraid the other party would be angry about being stood up what worried him was that Shen Hou might think he had done it on purpose. If Shen Hou ended up looking down on him because of this, it would be truly upsetting.
With a soft click, the door pushed open.
Reflexively, An Xiangdi tossed his phone aside, pretending he had finished looking at it long ago.
Shen Xiao noticed his little act but said nothing. Calmly, he carried a bowl of porridge to the bedside and began feeding him with a small spoon.
“It’s bland,” An Xiangdi muttered, smacking his lips. The plain rice porridge smelled fragrant enough, but without any side dishes, it felt far too plain.
“You’re having something light today.” Shen Xiao wiped the corner of his mouth, then glanced at the swollen gland on his neck. “I consulted the private doctor. He said I bit too hard, so it’s better to eat lightly while the swelling goes down.”
An Xiangdi raised a hand to cover his gland, grimacing. “You finally noticed? It really looks like it was chewed by a dog.”
Shen Xiao seemed to be in a good mood, his expression gentle. He fed An Xiangdi most of the bowl and, after An Xiangdi insisted he was full, finished the rest himself.
Once Shen Xiao left the room, An Xiangdi picked up his phone again. He agonized for a long time over whether to make the call or not, ultimately deciding against it. If the other party really wanted to have a meal with me, he thought, they’d reach out again.
Meanwhile, after tossing the empty bowl into the sink, Shen Xiao leaned against the counter and glanced at the text message Shen Hou’s secretary had sent the day before. Without hesitation, he deleted it and blocked the number.
An Xiangdi rested at home for two days. By the third day, he could finally move around comfortably. He saw Shen Xiao off to the car, saying, “See you in Pingbei.”
“Get some rest early.” Shen Xiao squeezed his palm. “See you in Pingbei.”
After Shen Xiao and An Xiangdi finished their goodbyes, Liu Qing drove off, leaving Xiao Gu behind. Xiao Gu looked at An Xiangdi with an innocent expression.
“Teacher An, don’t worry! I, Xiao Gu, will take care of your breakfast, lunch, and dinner these next few days!”
An Xiangdi patted his shoulder. “Actually, you only need to handle one day. I’m heading out to work tomorrow.”
Xiao Gu trotted after him eagerly. “I’ll pack your lunchbox properly, don’t worry!”
The next morning at nine sharp, Yao Honglang arrived punctually at An Xiangdi’s apartment.
The weather was scorching 39 degrees Celsius. When An Xiangdi came downstairs dressed in long sleeves and pants, he felt like he was melting.
He ducked into the car and slumped into the seat, not wanting to move a muscle.
“It’s so hot why aren’t you wearing shorts and a T-shirt? Didn’t the stylist pick out some nice summer clothes for you before?” Yao Honglang found it baffling. On such a sweltering day, An Xiangdi had bundled himself up tightly. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say he could survive winter just by adding a scarf.
Huddled in the back seat, An Xiangdi stayed silent. How could he explain that the numerous hickeys on his body hadn’t faded yet?
Fortunately, none of his upcoming events required him to wear revealing outfits. Besides, now that he was pregnant, he couldn’t afford to catch a chill anyway.
Seeing that he wasn’t responding, Yao Honglang briefed him on the schedule once they arrived in Pingbei later that day, then added, “The photographer from Cisheng is still contacting me. He said he’s willing to improve the terms and hopes you’ll consider collaborating.”
“What better terms? You sound like you’re on his side,” An Xiangdi couldn’t help retorting.
“All expenses for the photoshoot and promotional period will be covered by him personally, and he’ll also take the initiative to negotiate the luxury brand endorsements.” Having someone foot the bill and handle the promotions wasn’t that a stroke of good luck?
Yao Honglang, adhering to the principle of not letting a sucker go to waste, was all for it, but it still depended on whether An Xiangdi agreed.
“I’m not going. Someone like that can’t even figure out the theme he set himself, and he expects a third-rate artist like me to collaborate with him. Is he chasing a dream or chasing awards?” An Xiangdi’s refusal was crystal clear.
Yao Honglang fully understood his stance. After sending a reply to Cishèng, the matter was officially closed.
Since this interview in Pingbei City was a public event, An Xiangdi’s flight details had long been leaked everywhere, and fans swarmed the airport to greet him.
Fortunately, Yao Honglang had prepared in advance and arranged for a VIP passage, preventing An Xiangdi from being mobbed by fans.
However, when the van carrying An Xiangdi exited through the VIP gate, it was still surrounded by fans. “An An, can I have an autograph?”
“An An, look over here!”
“An An, it’s been so long I’ve missed you so much!”
Fans crowded around the van. Inside, An Xiangdi leaned back in his seat, looking fairly relaxed. Seeing the fans approach, he cheerfully asked the driver to roll down the window.
Immediately, fans reached in to hand him letters and gifts. An Xiangdi accepted as many as he could and even signed a few photos for them.
Suddenly, one fan raised her voice and asked, “An An, why didn’t Shen Xiao come with you? Isn’t he in Pingbei too?”
An Xiangdi paused his signing and spotted the fan in the crowd. “We haven’t left the house in a week. He went out earlier than me to earn money and support the family otherwise, we’d be living on air.”
At first, the fans focused on the latter part of his sentence, thinking he was joking. But it gradually dawned on them that there might be more to it.
In the #XiaoDi supertopic, CP fans were fervently analyzing the meaning behind An Xiangdi’s words.
XiaoDi Sugar Jar: Something feels off. What does “haven’t left the house in a week” really mean?
oooo OMG: You must be a Beta. An Omega’s heat lasts a whole week!
Sugar-Craving Girl: Holy crap, that’s some next-level insight!
An Zi’s Admirer: Ahhh, so they stayed in because of FQQ?
Quirky Little Radish: Love it, love it!
Did You Eat Sugar Today: KDL KDL, thank you, Sugar Representative!
Meanwhile, in the dressing room, An Xiangdi was resting with his eyes closed.
The makeup artist, who had been working on him, noticed faint red marks partially hidden by the collar of his shirt. Just as she was speculating about what they might be, Xiao Gu rushed in, phone in hand.
“Teacher An! Teacher An! Teacher Shen liked a fan’s comment! You guys are trending!”
“Liking a comment got us trending?” An Xiangdi took the phone, looking puzzled, and saw that Shen Xiao had liked the comment by the user “oooo OMG” and posted a Weibo update.
Shen Xiao V: Thank you for your concern. We’re living a very happy life.
An Xiangdi’s ears flushed red as he silently gave a like and tossed the phone back to Xiao Gu. “He’s just being extra.”
Yao Honglang sighed as if it were a common occurrence. “You two can show off your affection all you want, but have some consideration for us PR folks.”
