After Getting Pregnant, I’m Divorcing My Alpha - Chapter 31
“Dad, you don’t need to see me off. The car is right outside.” An Xiangdi pointed at the vehicle parked just beyond the courtyard.
His father insisted on walking him step by step, holding his hand and saying three things with every stride, his face full of reluctance.
“When will you be back next?” An Hongxian, just past fifty, didn’t look old at all. As an ordinary Beta male, he exuded the charm of a mature man. But at this moment, watching An Xiangdi with such unwillingness to part, it was quite an image-shattering sight.
Ding Mei had long grown accustomed to her husband’s behavior and couldn’t be bothered to comment. “An’an, let Mom know before you come back next time. This visit was too rushed, and we didn’t even have a proper chat.”
“Mom, I understand.” An Xiangdi turned to his father and gave him a helpless hug. “Dad, that’s enough. Stop here and go back. No more seeing me off.”
Only then did An Hongxian stop in his tracks, standing there with a dejected expression.
Once inside the car, An Xiangdi waved through the window, and Shen Xiao started the engine and drove off.
Sitting in the back seat, An Xiangdi sorted through the local specialties from Yaohai that his father had packed for him. Suddenly, at the bottom of one bag, he found a strange black box.
Opening it, he discovered a letter inside, along with two boxes of condoms.
With a sinking feeling, An Xiangdi frowned as he unfolded the letter. Sure enough, it was his father’s handwriting.
After skimming through the hastily scrawled lines, he sighed silently.
Shen Xiao noticed his resigned expression in the rearview mirror and asked, “What did Dad do?”
An Xiangdi thought, See? Even Shen Xiao knows it must be something Dad did.
“He wrote me a letter saying he’s happy about having a grandson, but childbirth is tough, and from now on, we should always use protection. He also said it’s best not to have a second child.” An Xiangdi tossed the letter onto the passenger seat.
Shen Xiao glanced at it while waiting at a red light and couldn’t help but laugh and shake his head.
Their plans for a second child were completely dashed.
An Xiangdi pouted and opened one of the condom boxes. “Strawberry flavor, too. Dad’s taste is really something else.”
Shen Xiao curled his lips into a smile. “Let’s go back and make an effort to use them up.”
An Xiangdi was about to agree, but then he remembered Dr. Qiao’s advice and what their private doctor had said earlier, and immediately chickened out. “I Don’t daydream in broad daylight.”
Around noon, the two drove back to Zongming City. Yao Honglang called An Xiangdi.
“The crew changed hotels. Don’t go to the wrong one I’ll send you the new address.”
“Huh? Why change hotels all of a sudden?” An Xiangdi found it baffling.
“They were randomly selected for a safety inspection, so it’s inconvenient to stay there.” Yao Honglang’s excuse rolled off his tongue smoothly. In truth, he had already coordinated with the crew and deliberately timed the call to notify An Xiangdi.
“Oh.” Suspicious, An Xiangdi relayed the new address to Shen Xiao.
Shen Xiao feigned confusion. “They changed hotels? This one seems closer to the set.”
“The investors are really generous. This hotel is way more expensive than the last one.” Although the new hotel was also five-star, it was in a completely different league from the previous one.
Shen Xiao didn’t comment, simply turning the car toward the new hotel.
After arriving, before they could even unpack, Wang Xingxiu summoned them to the hotel’s conference room.
“I believe all of you are aware of why I’ve called you here.” Wang Xingxiu sat at the front. “Regarding the incident that occurred in the crew a few days ago, I’ll provide a brief explanation here. An outsider infiltrated the crew, not only leaking the physical condition of our actors but also attempting to sabotage the collective efforts of everyone involved out of revenge.”
“However, I’ve always believed that a strong crew cannot be easily defeated. The individual responsible has now been brought to justice, and I hope everyone can adjust their mindset and focus on filming with peace of mind starting tomorrow.” After finishing his speech, Wang Xingxiu quickly scanned the people seated below, and soon applause led by the staff followed.
In reality, this explanation had been carefully arranged by Yao Honglang and Shen Xiao after their discussion. The entire crew had been briefed and aligned on the narrative: the culprit was an outsider with a grudge against the crew, aiming to destroy the production.
An Xiangdi found the explanation odd. Returning to his room, he noticed that the belongings he had left behind at the previous hotel had been moved over intact. Even the pen he used for recording was placed in a pen holder on the bedside table, seemingly undisturbed.
Two knocks on the door interrupted his thoughts.
Shen Xiao, who was near the door, went to open it. Standing outside was Xiao Gu.
“Dizi, your assistant is here.” Shen Xiao stepped aside to let Xiao Gu enter the room.
“Teacher An, I’m back.” Xiao Gu was beaming with joy. Not only had he caught up with his schoolmates, but he had also cleared his name. Now, he could resume his role as An Xiangdi’s assistant without worry.
“Have you gained weight?” An Xiangdi teased.
Xiao Gu touched his face. How could he have gained weight after just a few days back at school?
“Really?”
An Xiangdi didn’t respond, and Xiao Gu realized he was being teased. “Teacher An, I’ve finished handling my academic matters. In a few days, I’ll return to school to collect my diploma and take graduation photos. Then, I’ll officially graduate.”
“Mm.”
“My classmates kept asking me if it was true that you’re pregnant. I didn’t say a word, not even when they asked for your autograph.” The memory of being suspected by Yao Honglang was still fresh in Xiao Gu’s mind, and he raised his hand as if making a vow.
Without another word, An Xiangdi pulled a few blank sheets of paper from a drawer and swiftly signed his name on them. “Here, a gift for your classmates. Thank them for their support.”
Xiao Gu was overwhelmed. “Thank you, Teacher An! I’ll arrange a flash delivery to send these to them this afternoon!”
“Give them to me.” Shen Xiao reached out, took the signed papers from Xiao Gu, and added his own signature next to An Xiangdi’s. “You’re welcome.”
“Your classmates didn’t say they liked you. How thick-skinned.” An Xiangdi couldn’t resist teasing him.
Shen Xiao shoved his hands into his pockets. “Buy one, get one free. It’s a promotional offer.”
The next day, the crew of The Yellowed Season resumed filming.
Ying Chong’s jaw, which had been punched by Wei Yi earlier, had healed surprisingly quickly, with no visible swelling left. The innate physical advantages of Alphas certainly came in handy in such situations.
To help everyone ease back into the rhythm, Wang Xingxiu decided not to restart filming from the scene where the incident occurred. Instead, he skipped ahead to a lighter segment of the storyline.
The main actors took turns going through their scenes, and the filming went smoothly. The crew bustled about but were in good spirits, clearly indicating that the incident from a few days ago was completely behind them.
After finishing his scenes, An Xiangdi returned to the break room to eat and casually flipped through the casual clothes he had worn that day.
He had felt something was off when he returned yesterday, and after carefully inspecting the clothes today, his suspicions were confirmed.
These weren’t his clothes. Though identical, they were clearly brand new. And it probably wasn’t just these clothes everything in his room had likely been replaced.
“Teacher An, Brother Yao is calling for you,” Xiao Gu said, pushing open the break room door.
“Alright.” An Xiangdi set down the clothes and followed Xiao Gu out.
Yao Honglang was holding a tablet, scrolling through something. When An Xiangdi approached, he turned the screen toward him. “There’s an offer for a new drama. See if you’re interested.”
“A bewitching Omega queen who brings ruin to the nation?” An Xiangdi looked puzzled. What kind of strange premise was this?
“Exactly. Once your pregnancy becomes noticeable, you won’t be able to take on ordinary roles. I’ve read the script it’s a bit melodramatic, but it’s easy to film and has a lot of potential for buzz. If it gains traction, it could be a huge hit.” Yao Honglang, usually serious, occasionally had his artists take on roles that stirred discussion.
“I don’t want to film it.” An Xiangdi disliked the script at first glance. A pregnant, empty-headed Omega queen who ruins the nation with her beauty? It made her sound like a seductress.
“Then I’ll let Shen Xiao know later and have him find another co-star.” Yao Honglang didn’t try to persuade him, calmly dropping this remark before preparing to leave.
“Wait! Shen Xiao is going to act in this?” An Xiangdi glanced at Shen Xiao, who was on the phone in a corner of the set. “He’s going to star in this kind of melodramatic show?”
“Yes, and he’ll be playing the emperor, mesmerized by the bewitching Omega queen,” Yao Honglang said. “If you’re not interested, I’ll turn it down. There are a lot of kissing and intimate scenes it really isn’t suitable.”
“I’ll do it.” An Xiangdi gritted his teeth and agreed.
“Alright.” Yao Honglang wasn’t surprised by the outcome. “I’ll call the production team back.”
An Xiangdi let out a long sigh, deciding to set the matter aside for now. Casually, he said, “Xiao Gu, call the makeup artist who usually does my makeup.”
“That person has already been arrested. You…” Xiao Gu stopped mid-sentence, suddenly covering his mouth.
Damn, he’d let it slip.
Hearing the answer he wanted, An Xiangdi smirked and patted Xiao Gu’s shoulder lightly. “I haven’t been paying your salary for nothing.”
Xiao Gu watched helplessly as An Xiangdi strode toward Shen Xiao, looking as if he was about to start a confrontation, and stamped his feet anxiously.
“Shen Xiao, come here.” An Xiangdi raised his hand, unceremoniously grabbing Shen Xiao by the collar and pulling him off the set.
“What’s wrong?” Shen Xiao found An Xiangdi’s domineering demeanor utterly captivating and took his hand. “Did Yao Honglang talk to you about the new drama?”
“He did.” An Xiangdi didn’t look back until he had dragged Shen Xiao to a secluded corner outside the set. Then he turned around. “You and Yao Honglang went through my things, didn’t you? All the clothes in my room, and those accessories they’ve all been replaced with new ones, right?”
An Xiangdi had no idea how Shen Xiao had managed to gather everything in just a few days, but one thing was certain it had to be him.
Shen Xiao had considered that all his arrangements might be exposed after all, An Xiangdi was so clever. But he never expected it would be discovered in less than a day.
“That makeup artist who stole my ring probably even went to my room, right?” Since all his clothes had been replaced with new ones and the hotel had been changed, the video from that night must have captured something, but Shen Xiao had taken care of it all. An Xiangdi could roughly deduce the reason. “Is she my obsessive fan?”
“Xiangdi, this matter is already over.” Shen Xiao frowned, not wanting An Xiangdi to imagine what had actually happened.
“Shen Xiao, I’m glad you handled this for me, but I’m not some pampered canary.” An Xiangdi grabbed Shen Xiao by the collar, pulling him down until their lips were almost touching. “And I’m certainly not some brainless Omega who brings ruin to nations and calamity to people.”
“I’m sorry.” Shen Xiao caught the sweet scent of An Xiangdi’s pheromones, feeling both love and frustration he wished he could just lock this person away at home and never let him out. “If you don’t want to do that drama, just turn it down.”
“No, I’m going to do it.” An Xiangdi’s beautiful peach-blossom eyes now held a fierce intensity. “If you won’t film the intimate scenes with me, then who will you film them with?”
