After Getting Married to My Obsessive Older Sister - Chapter 41
Chapter 41
The next day was Saturday. Tan Ze went to work as usual, and Chu Yiqiao had to go to her part-time job to earn some pocket money.
At 7:00 AM, the alarm had barely sounded before it was quickly muted. Tan Ze slowly woke up. Before she could fully open her eyes, the person in her arms arched up, climbed forward, aimed for Tan Ze’s lips, and gave a loud, quick, and crisp smack.
Tan Ze was startled and instantly wide awake.
She opened her eyes. Chu Yiqiao was still nestled in her arms, her big eyes staring brightly at Tan Ze, shimmering with anticipation.
“Sister, are you awake?”
As soon as she spoke, she leaned in again, as if she wanted to kiss Tan Ze another time.
Tan Ze leaned back, intercepting her just in time. She pinched Chu Yiqiao’s round face with her left hand to hold her in place and asked: “Chu Yiqiao, what are you doing wide awake this early instead of sleeping?”
“I was sleeping,” Chu Yiqiao’s voice was naturally sweet, and she was deliberately using a baby voice now. Tan Ze couldn’t stand the sound of those words, so she released her hand and quickly covered Chu Yiqiao’s mouth.
Tan Ze: “Speak properly.”
Chu Yiqiao spoke, her hot breath spraying against Tan Ze’s palm. She muffled: “I just woke up and felt so much love for you.”
She must be reading those late-night emotional posts again. Tan Ze hugged Chu Yiqiao, pressing her back onto the bed, and wrapping her arms around her: “Then go back to sleep for a bit.”
Chu Yiqiao said: “Okay.”
Chu Yiqiao closed her eyes.
And then opened them again.
How could Chu Yiqiao possibly fall asleep!
Strictly speaking, she hadn’t slept much since last night. She was too excited. The absolute psychological euphoria surpassed the extreme physical exhaustion.
She slept for a short while, then quickly woke up. Her mind was filled with the image of the ring her sister had slipped onto her ring finger. She thought about it when awake and dreamed about it when asleep.
Was that a ring?
It was a ring!
What does my sister mean by this? Is she going to propose?
Aaaah! Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, is it too fast?
But their life now was no different from being married.
Chu Yiqiao couldn’t stop her mind from racing. She was too expectant.
Marriage—a word that used to be a hundred thousand miles away from her—was now brought to her so lightly by Tan Ze.
Because she had felt the sensation of the ring on her finger, Chu Yiqiao even felt the neurotic belief that a person should be born with a ring on their finger, only to have lost it later.
Otherwise, how could she explain her current craving?
The more she thought about it, the more she felt her ring finger was too empty, desperately needing a ring to fill the gap.
Chu Yiqiao was not a person who was brave enough to face change. In her short 20 years of life, the major changes were all forced upon her by life. Other changes, such as moving into a new home or starting a relationship, were all led by her sister.
The former made her sad; the latter made her happy.
For this reason, even though Chu Yiqiao was a little afraid of the life changes marriage would bring, she was still eager for it. She looked forward to Tan Ze expanding her world again, and to more new and novel enjoyments in life.
Besides, after getting married, would she be able to call her wife?
Jiejie, Wife.
Aaaah! Oh my god!
Chu Yiqiao closed her eyes, but her own vivid fantasy caused her blood to rush up. She lowered her head, burrowing into Tan Ze’s arms.
She wrapped her arms around her tightly, and not content with that, she also threw her leg over Tan Ze’s body, treating Tan Ze entirely like her personal large stuffed toy.
Tan Ze lay flat, eyes closed, accommodating Chu Yiqiao’s every move.
She hadn’t slept much last night either. Chu Yiqiao might not have realized it, but she had been constantly touching Tan Ze touching her waist one minute, kissing her face the next, or burying her head in her chest to take a deep breath. Tan Ze was already a light sleeper; if she could sleep through all of Chu Yiqiao’s wiggling, it would be a miracle.
This wasn’t the first time Tan Ze had been Chu Yiqiao’s large stuffed toy.
In the period immediately after Chu Lingfeng’s death, Chu Yiqiao’s mental state was too poor. She suffered from severe insomnia, lying in bed crying until dawn. Tan Ze was afraid Chu Yiqiao would cry herself blind, so she had to sleep next to Chu Yiqiao every day.
She was the same then even though the bed was huge, she insisted on squeezing next to Tan Ze. Thirteen-year-old Chu Yiqiao was two sizes smaller than twenty-year-old Chu Yiqiao. Every part of her was soft. She lay on Tan Ze as if she had no weight. She was so insecure. Her face had to be pressed against Tan Ze’s, her hands wrapped around Tan Ze’s waist, and her leg pressed down on Tan Ze’s leg, terrified that Tan Ze, like Chu Lingfeng, would suddenly leave her.
The slightest movement from Tan Ze would startle her awake. She wouldn’t speak, just look at Tan Ze with a tearful, wronged expression, tears visibly welling up in her eyes. Once Tan Ze hugged her, she’d be fine, clinging to her and saying, “Sister, you’re the best.”
Fast-forward to the present, Chu Yiqiao was still holding Tan Ze. Even with her eyes closed, the curve of her lips indicated her good mood. The happiness radiating from her was almost drowning Tan Ze.
Tan Ze sometimes suspected Chu Yiqiao had a skin hunger disorder. She had never seen anyone so clingy, so fond of hugging.
So fond that even when Tan Ze deliberately teased her, hoping to see Chu Yiqiao struggle to escape, she never succeeded. No matter how much pressure Tan Ze applied, or how mean she was, Chu Yiqiao always clung to her she would cry while hugging Tan Ze, and even when exhausted, she would collapse into Tan Ze’s arms.
Tan Ze was truly at her wits’ end with Chu Yiqiao. All her schemes were useless. In the end, the soft hug and the gentle kiss were the most effective. In fact, Chu Yiqiao’s weaknesses were obvious, and Tan Ze had long held the leverage, but her conscience prevented her from using it.
Marriage is a topic for another time.
However, while Tan Ze was torn between two extreme emotions, Chu Yiqiao had already entered the “pre-proposal” state. Her Little Red Book feed was completely filled with proposal-related content.
Chu Yiqiao’s favorite post was titled: “What signs did your partner show before proposing?” Chu Yiqiao was absolutely obsessed with it, opening it to read hundreds of times a day. With every point, she gasped internally: “Oh my god! This is exactly like my sister!“
Sign 1: Suddenly suggesting we eat at a fancy restaurant.
Flashback to Saturday. After cuddling in Tan Ze’s arms for another hour, Chu Yiqiao finally got out of bed reluctantly. She changed into the clothes Tan Ze had picked out for her and sat on the edge of the bed, resting her chin on her hand, solemnly observing the sight of Tan Ze bending over to put on her suit pants.
Her legs were long and straight, covered with a beautiful layer of lean muscle from her regular fitness routine. The muscle definition was clear when she flexed, but soft, warm, and elastic to the touch when relaxed. She was a particularly beautiful and perfect human body.
When Chu Yiqiao looked at Tan Ze, she never knew how to be subtle. Tan Ze felt the scorching gaze on her back. She quickly finished putting on her pants, turned around, and looked at the stunned Chu Yiqiao: “Is it that good-looking?”
Caught red-handed, Chu Yiqiao first nodded, then remembered to be reserved, abruptly changing the subject: “Oh right, Sister, did you know? The competition results are out, and I won the excellence award!”
Tan Ze had known half a month ago, but that didn’t stop her from putting on a surprised and proud expression: “That’s amazing! I knew you could do it.”
Tan Ze put on her jacket and kissed Chu Yiqiao’s cheek. They left together, bought breakfast, and Tan Ze dropped Chu Yiqiao off at the art studio door.
As Chu Yiqiao opened the door to get out, Tan Ze suddenly called her back and suggested: “To celebrate, I’ll take you to the Sky Restaurant tonight. Haven’t you always wanted to go?”
Chu Yiqiao nodded excitedly, thinking: It’s tonight!
But it wasn’t.
Seriously. If she had known, she would have eaten more of that ice cream.
Though, Chu Yiqiao did actually go back and eat it, and Tan Ze took a very cute photo of her.
She kept it for herself, lying to Chu Yiqiao that she hadn’t pressed the shutter.
Sign 2: Suddenly asking if I like a certain type of flower.
On Sunday, Chu Yiqiao made up the hours she had missed at Lin Jie’s studio in the morning. She was then picked up by Assistant Zhao as usual and rushed to the company.
Coincidentally, the company was preparing for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a project that had recently launched and needed to select flowers for the venue.
Generally, this kind of minor task was handled by the relevant department staff and was too low priority to even reach the CEO’s office.
However, that morning, the HR department submitted last month’s performance review report, and the next document concerned the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Tan Ze had never paid much attention to flowers, but having just received a bouquet from Chu Yiqiao two nights ago and having spent such a memorable night, she impulsively asked a couple of extra questions.
She thought of a gesture of courtesy. Since Chu Yiqiao loved pretty, romantic things so much, she should be very happy to receive flowers.
That evening, the two were again eating catering in Tan Ze’s office. Tan Ze, picking up food with her chopsticks, glanced up at Chu Yiqiao, who was eating with relish, and casually asked: “Chu Yiqiao, do you get dizzy if you smell flowers for a long time?”
Chu Yiqiao paused her chopstick-movement, lowered her head, and concealed her smile: “No, why?”
She thought: It’s tonight!
But it wasn’t.
That night, when they returned home, Chu Yiqiao did receive a large bouquet of red roses, but they were not for a proposal. There were 99 in total. 58 were used to decorate their home in a vase, 40 became props for a night of pleasure, and one remained tucked behind Chu Yiqiao’s ear the entire time, trembling slightly with her body’s shaking.
Chu Yiqiao lay on a bed full of rose petals, inhaling the rich rose scent, tears of both pleasure and disappointment falling from her eyes.
No wonder she asked if “smelling them for a long time would make me dizzy.” Now, she was very dizzy.
Tan Ze didn’t feel she had used much force, but after such a long time, both of them were stained with the juices of crushed rose petals. The original plan was to shower with Chu Yiqiao and continue, but Chu Yiqiao was too dizzy to stand. Tan Ze’s first attempt to kiss her was met with a stern rejection.
“It’s too fragrant… Sister, I’m so dizzy…”
Since things had come to this, Tan Ze couldn’t accuse Chu Yiqiao of going back on her word. After showering, they slept in Chu Yiqiao’s room for the first time in a while.
The next day, Assistant Zhao, smelling the identical rose fragrance on both of them, wore a strange smile.
Sign 3: Suddenly becoming more considerate and thoughtful.
After the rose incident, Chu Yiqiao was in a state of listlessness for three days. The roller-coaster of extreme joy and sadness was one thing, but the worst part was the smell!
Her sense of smell was more sensitive than others. They had played for two hours, and Chu Yiqiao felt she had been “marinated” in the rose scent. It was everywhere she went. She was extremely dizzy and had no energy.
Tan Ze had quickly hired someone to clean the bedroom and deodorize it, but even so, Chu Yiqiao refused to sleep back in Tan Ze’s bedroom. They had been sleeping in Chu Yiqiao’s room all this time.
Because Chu Yiqiao was so dispirited, Tan Ze had to give up their pre-sleep activity, sadly losing her perfect attendance record for April.
One evening, after showering and getting straight into bed, Chu Yiqiao habitually snuggled into Tan Ze’s arms. Her hands were obedient, and she herself was obedient, closing her eyes and preparing to sleep soundly. Tan Ze’s arm circled Chu Yiqiao’s slender waist, and her mind gradually wandered.
She felt like she was ill. Chu Yiqiao was lying right in her arms, yet she developed separation anxiety. There was no cure unless Chu Yiqiao took the initiative to hug and kiss her as before.
Chu Yiqiao buried her face in Tan Ze’s chest, her forehead pressing against Tan Ze’s neck, breathing deeply. Her breath was full of warm, reassuring scents. She, meanwhile, was enjoying the relief, perfectly content with just hugging every day.
Tan Ze couldn’t stand it. Seeing that Chu Yiqiao wasn’t fully asleep yet, she gently shook her awake, sat up, and spoke with a rather serious expression: “Do you need to go to the hospital? Your state is not right. Are you still uncomfortable? Dizzy?”
Chu Yiqiao answered each question obediently: “No need to go. I’m okay. I’m alright. Not dizzy.”
Tan Ze was left speechless. All she could do was hold Chu Yiqiao and endure another “dry” night.
In the very end, as if refusing to accept defeat, she asked one last time: “Are you sure you’re not uncomfortable? Tell me if you are, and I’ll take you for a check-up.”
Chu Yiqiao was both sleepy and excited. She nodded and murmured, “Mm.”
Is it tonight?
No, Sister, I’m so sleepy.
Chu Yiqiao fell asleep.
Tan Ze did not propose.
