- Chapter 8 - Attracting Attention
Ever since she realized Huo Xun’s feelings for Sang Luo, Liu Zhiya had been quietly plotting how to pull Huo Xun’s gaze toward herself. She already had little liking for Sang Luo, and now her distaste had only deepened. Thinking of that exquisite, peerless face, a flash of loathing crossed her features. A grown man looking like that was truly disgusting.
She cursed Sang Luo relentlessly in her mind while deciding to look into his background. Observing the others, Liu Zhiya thought for a moment before standing up.
“Why don’t you try my cooking for dinner? I hope you won’t find it lacking.” Liu Zhiya smiled at the group. “What would everyone like to eat?”
The guests on the sofa looked at one another, particularly Qin Yibing, who seemed to be scrutinizing Liu Zhiya’s motives.
“Anything you make will be fine,” Chen Jing said, affecting an expectant expression. “Everyone knows you are the reigning goddess of the entertainment industry, beautiful and skilled in the kitchen. We will be waiting.”
The others could only nod in agreement. Hearing this, Liu Zhiya felt immensely gratified. She believed she was talented enough to be the center of attention wherever she went.
“You certainly know how to talk,” Liu Zhiya said, looking at Chen Jing with satisfaction. She had no idea that this very person would eventually drag her from her pedestal into the mire.
In her eagerness to show off, Liu Zhiya put in a great deal of effort, preparing ten dishes and a soup. Looking at her handiwork, she felt a surge of pride; she refused to believe Huo Xun would not praise her. After calling the others to eat, she wiped her sweat and went to change her clothes. The smell of sweat and kitchen fumes was unbearable to her; she had rarely ever subjected herself to such hardship.
However, the others did not know her thoughts, nor did they care. Bai Chen looked around the room. “Where is Huo Xun?”
“The Movie King hasn’t come down yet. I will go get him,” Chen Jing said, heading upstairs. Standing before the door, he adjusted his collar before knocking.
A moment later, Huo Xun opened the door. He appeared to be in a foul mood, his sharp features appearing even more cutting. “Is something wrong?” His voice was cold, causing a reflexive shiver of fear.
Chen Jing swallowed hard. “CEO Huo, it is time for dinner.”
“I see. Thank you.” Huo Xun’s face appeared even more handsome under the lights, his deep eyes resembling a silent abyss. Chen Jing dazed for a moment, then gathered his courage to reach out, wanting to touch Huo Xun.
“What are you doing?” Huo Xun’s voice carried an innate authority. The coldness and dark currents in his eyes made one’s heart tremble.
“I thought I saw something on your clothes.”
“No need.” Huo Xun did not even look at his attire before closing the door. He walked quickly to the table and drank a glass of cold water to calm himself. The clock in the room ticked away, lending a bizarre feeling to the silence.
After standing for a while, Huo Xun left his room and approached Sang Luo’s door. He hesitated, his hand rising and falling repeatedly. His deep eyes held a rare trace of nervousness, an emotion that almost never appeared in the CEO of the Huo Corporation.
Just then, Sang Luo opened the door, and the two were caught off guard, their gazes meeting. For a moment, time seemed to stand still. Everything else faded away, and even the lights felt less piercing. Sang Luo’s long hair was loose; because of a stray strand, the red mole at the end of his eyebrow was partially hidden, making it even more alluring.
Sang Luo’s expression was like a winter wind, biting and cold. Huo Xun felt a pang in his heart at that gaze, but he forced a smile. “Let’s go down to eat.”
“Okay.”
The two said nothing more, walking downstairs one after the other. Sang Luo did not know that behind him, Huo Xun’s gaze never left him.
On the first floor, everyone except Liu Zhiya had taken their seats. Chen Jing acted as if the earlier awkwardness had never happened, greeting everyone warmly. Sang Luo gave a very faint smile in return and sat down next to Bai Chen. He clearly felt Bai Chen let out a soft laugh after he sat down. Sang Luo remained unmoved, acting as if he had not heard it. He had only one goal: to test Bai Chen.
“Are you still in university?” Bai Chen asked, appearing as kind as a neighborly older brother and seemingly unaware of Sang Luo’s intentions.
Sang Luo’s eyes were clear but devoid of emotion. “No.”
Bai Chen showed no displeasure. “Have you graduated?”
“Yes.”
Bai Chen appeared refined and gentle, while Sang Luo was extremely cold. This was noted by Bai Chen’s fans, who grew annoyed.
[What is he posing for? This is so frustrating.]
[Exactly. Movie King Bai took the initiative to talk, and he acts like this? It is revolting.]
[So annoying. Does being good-looking mean you can have this attitude?]
[Maybe that is just his personality.]
[Exactly, it is not like he didn’t answer. You are being too sensitive.]
[Just a passerby here, but I have to say: just because you treat your idol like a treasure doesn’t mean everyone else has to be a sycophant.]
[Watch your mouth! If you can’t say anything nice, shut up!]
Among the comments were a few from Sang Luo’s small fan base, but they were all fans of his appearance who did not dare to argue too much. The director saw everything but said nothing. This was not his concern, even regarding Sang Luo.
At the table, some were already unhappy because Liu Zhiya had been upstairs for nearly an hour. After another while, she finally made her late entrance.
“Sorry, have you been waiting long?” Liu Zhiya said, though she showed no real sign of apology. Instead, she stared directly at Huo Xun. She wore a long dress similar to an evening gown, her face was covered in exquisite makeup, and most exaggerated of all were the ten-centimeter heels on her feet.
Seeing this display, Qin Yibing was blunt. “If you were actually sorry, you should have come down sooner.” Her eyes were full of mockery. “One might think you had other intentions.”
Liu Zhiya’s smile became forced. After a few polite platitudes, she hurried into the kitchen and soon emerged carrying a food box.
“CEO Huo, try this.” Liu Zhiya opened the box to reveal a bento decorated with a heart. The dishes inside were even more elaborate than those on the table.
Huo Xun looked at it coldly and refused directly. “Thank you for the hard work, but you should eat it yourself.”
“I”
“Did you use up all the ingredients in the kitchen?” Qin Yibing asked unceremoniously, having seen through the situation. “Is this the surprise you mentioned?”
“I just thought everyone was working so hard, so I”
“From tomorrow on, everyone should fend for themselves. If you want to eat, use your own money to buy it.”
Qin Yibing began to eat immediately. She was not going to let the food go to waste; the ingredients belonged to everyone, and no one owed anyone anything. No one spoke up to help Liu Zhiya. Her eyes reddened with grievance, and she deliberately struck a pitiful pose for the cameras. She did not dare to curse at Qin Yibing, but she knew her fans would. Even if there were repercussions, they would not fall on her head.
[Truly speechless. Bullying someone just because of your status?]
[This woman is so nasty. So annoying.]
[Wasn’t it Liu Zhiya who intentionally made everyone wait that long? She looks like a seductress trying to lure someone.]
[Our Zhiya just likes to dress up. Did she eat your rice?]
[Likes to dress up? I won’t say why.]
[The Young Lady is right. She used up all the ingredients just to show off. Selfish.]
[The ingredients were supposed to last a week. Because of this move, the guests have to buy their own starting tomorrow. The prize money surely had other uses.]
[Whatever. They should buy their own anyway, shouldn’t they?]
The comments section was in a heated argument, but Liu Zhiya was secretly thrilled.
[THE END]
