- Chapter 19 - You Are Worth It
Evening had arrived once more. As the first shadows of night appeared, the wind, which should have been cool, carried a lingering heat. Summer was approaching, and even the sun set a little later now; the faint silhouette of the moon was just visible in the twilight.
Sang Luo was drenched from his hot shower, his long hair clinging to his skin. Droplets of water hung from his eyelashes, falling with every blink to merge into the steady stream. Due to the steam, his skin and cheeks were flushed with a faint, rosy glow.
As the water stopped, Sang Luo dried his hair and wrapped himself in a bathrobe. His figure was tall and slender, his long legs straight beneath the robe, making his movements particularly striking. He had just finished blow-drying his hair when a knock came at the door. He knew exactly who it was without even thinking.
“Come in.”
Sang Luo’s voice was as pleasant as a flowing spring.
Huo Xun froze the moment the door opened, his Adam’s apple bobbing almost imperceptibly.
“Is it about the contract?”
“Yes,” Huo Xun replied, quickly looking away. “Forgive me for being late; I was handling some company matters.”
“It is fine,” Sang Luo said succinctly. “Let me see it.”
Huo Xun strode over and placed the contract on the table. Sang Luo picked it up and began reading through it meticulously. Huo Xun’s gaze inevitably fell on the youth’s half-dry hair and traveled downward to his exquisite collarbones. From this angle, he could catch a subtle glimpse of the view beneath the collar.
“This is fine.”
Without a moment’s hesitation, Sang Luo signed his name. He still possessed the decisiveness of a monarch, and his handwriting was beautiful.
Huo Xun was not surprised. “Good. I will assign you the best manager. From now on, he will handle only you.”
“Why do you trust me so much?” Sang Luo asked, still looking at the contract. “By current standards, you should not have estimated my full value yet.”
“Because you are worth it.”
Sang Luo looked up instinctively, his gaze immediately meeting those deep, dark eyes. Huo Xun’s expression held a unique tenderness that grew more intense under the lamplight. It was like a pure breeze gently brushing over a silent lake, sweeping away the haze.
Sang Luo’s heart skipped a beat. He had seen this look before. During their first meeting in his previous life, Huo Xun had looked at him with that same gaze, one he had remembered for a full decade. This man had occupied every day of his past life; he had missed him every single moment.
Just as Sang Luo was about to lose himself in the feeling, a sharp pain suddenly shot through his fingers, pulling him back from his memories instantly. He looked down at his hands; all ten fingers were perfectly intact, yet the phantom pain easily reminded him of his past misery and wretchedness.
“I understand.” Sang Luo closed his eyes slightly. “I will not disappoint you.”
At this, Huo Xun knew it was time to leave. However, his gaze lingered, unwilling to depart. He did not know why his feelings for Sang Luo grew stronger by the day, reaching a point where they felt inseparable. Though they had not spent much time together, he felt he understood this person completely. Yet, the vast chasm between them remained; he could not step across it prematurely.
“Get some rest.”
The door closed softly. Sang Luo lay on the bed exhausted, closing his eyes to hide the coldness within.
That night, he dreamed. He felt heavy shackles and a body that could not move. A blurred figure stood before him, whispering something. The pain was constant. After an unknown amount of time, Sang Luo’s vision cleared, and the filthy, mottled walls of a cell forced their way into his sight. This was the prison where he had been held; he knew it all too well. All his suffering stemmed from this place. Even in a new life, his soul remained trapped here, unable to find peace.
The next morning, Sang Luo accompanied Huo Xun to the company. Star Media was grand and powerful. Upon entering the fifth floor, a man immediately stepped forward. “CEO Huo. Mr. Sang.”
Huo Xun nodded. “Sang Luo, this is your manager, Qi Wang.”
“Hello, Mr. Sang. I look forward to working with you.”
Sang Luo looked at the refined man. “I will be in your care.”
“It is my duty.”
With the introductions complete, they entered the office. Qi Wang eagerly produced a file. “Mr. Sang, I have secured this endorsement for you. Please take a look.”
“You can just call me by my name,” Sang Luo said as he picked up the file, noticing the compensation immediately. After a brief look at the content, he said, “This one will do.”
“Good. I will coordinate with the person in charge and aim to film within the next two days.” Qi Wang did not mind the informality. “May I add you on WeChat?”
“Yes.”
Qi Wang worked efficiently. Having received an affirmative answer, he immediately left to start the preparations.
A smile touched Huo Xun’s deep, narrow eyes, and his voice was low. “This endorsement is entirely beneficial for you. It is a luxury brand, and there is potential for a long-term partnership.”
“Thank you. I understand.”
“Then remember to make an official announcement later about your signing with Star.”
Sang Luo paused. “What do I need to do?”
Huo Xun let out a soft laugh; anyone could see his delight. “I will teach you.” It was a rare sight to see Sang Luo looking as dazed as a child; he was purely, adorably innocent.
Huo Xun first announced the news via the Star Media official account and tagged Sang Luo. Following instructions, Sang Luo somewhat awkwardly reposted the message. Star Media’s influence was massive; tens of thousands of comments appeared within moments. Aside from Sang Luo’s excited fans, most people were wondering who he was.
Huo Xun was not about to let this opportunity pass. He gestured for Sang Luo to look up, and with a camera click, he captured the young man looking cold yet puzzled. He then posted another update with the caption: “Satisfying your curiosity. @SangLuo.” He posted the photo in the previous comment section and pinned it.
[Wow, a great beauty! I love him so much, followed!] [Wooo, is this beauty actually real?] [He looks familiar. Is he the one from the 9403 variety show?] [My Luoluo has made it! A photo personally posted by Star Media!] [This looks like an unedited shot. Seems like it was just taken.] [If it is unedited, I have a question: Who took the photo of Sang Luo? Could it be that person!] [My ship might actually be real!] [Who is this? He just has a pretty face. What work has he done?] [Exactly. I clicked on his account and there is nothing there.] [Star signed this guy just for his face?] [That is not true. Do not be so superficial. I suggest searching the trending topic: Dating Show Script Performance Ascended to Godhood!]
Sang Luo’s biggest point of criticism currently was the lack of a body of work to support his fans’ affection and attract the attention of passersby. Huo Xun monitored the comments throughout. He first used Sang Luo’s account to announce the endorsement news and then reposted the video that had previously trended. This would allow more people to see how excellent Sang Luo was as the assassin. It would also show everyone that Sang Luo’s potential was limitless.
A promising future was not far off; it was within reach.
[THE END]
