- Chapter 18 - Truly a Handful
“Little Teacher Gu, I,” Zhao Yanqin began.
“Yan Yan, look closely. This is that cold, aloof teacher you like so much.” A boy taller than Zhao Yanqin hooked an arm around his neck, leaning in to rub against the top of his head in a mock show of affection. Zhao Yanqin was too terrified to move.
“From the moment he chose to trade his dignity for a future, he became unworthy of standing before you. He is nothing more than trash who has messed around with your uncle.”
Some people were born with mouths that served only to offend, spitting out filth that ruined everything they touched.
Zhao Yanqin froze, his breathing tight. He shouted toward Gu He, “Little Teacher Gu, run!”
The sound of a school uniform being torn apart echoed through the air. Zhao Yanqin’s eyes turned red with shame as he desperately clutched at the tattered fabric. Beneath the uniform, a tight, brightly colored women’s dress was clearly visible. “No, please.”
Indeed, he had a secret hobby: cross-dressing. It was a private matter that almost no one knew about, as he only practiced it when he was hidden away. However, he had accidentally left a lipstick in his pocket, which led to this encounter with the school bullies. They had forced him to put it on and, seeing how good he looked, decided to play a cruel game. They demanded he wear women’s clothing, threatening to expose his secret to the world if he refused.
They had somehow discovered that Gu He was his tutor and took a keen interest in him. They had been harassing Zhao Yanqin for contact information and trying to lure Gu He out. Even though Gu He had resigned the previous week, these people always found ways to threaten him.
“Tsk, tsk. Why ‘no’? Are we not just satisfying your hobby? Why the resistance? You look so beautiful.”
“Do not look.” Zhao Yanqin bit his lower lip, gripping the only piece of fabric left to cover his shame. He closed his eyes and curled into a ball.
Immediately, he was met with a heavy kick. “Move your hands! I cannot get a good shot.”
Zhao Yanqin let out a muffled groan as several more kicks followed. Dirty footprints soon covered his once-clean school uniform.
Gu He was not one to look for trouble, but some people insisted on bringing it to him.
“Little Teacher, are you interested in giving us a public demonstration?” Someone had already set up a camera to record a video.
“Ah!” Gu He lunged forward, grabbing the person’s hand and twisting it sharply. The crisp sound of a bone dislocating filled the air, followed by the dull thud of the camera hitting the ground.
Seeing this, the others began to close in on Gu He. He moved quickly, driving a knee hard into one boy’s abdomen, sending him crashing to the ground in a scream of agony.
Since they were small-time thugs, they quickly drew their weapons. Silver blades glinted under the cold moonlight.
One boy gripped a knife, lunging the blade directly at Gu He’s abdomen. Gu He timed his move perfectly, twisting away and slamming a fist into the boy’s cheek. The impact was so swift it numbed the bone. The small knife grazed Gu He’s arm, leaving a long gash.
Reacting instantly, Gu He delivered a heavy blow with his elbow. The boy’s face was knocked to the side, the taste of copper filling his mouth as a warm stream of blood dripped from his nose onto the ground. He wiped it away, the sight of the bright red blood stinging his eyes. He was bleeding.
The other two watched their leader get beaten into a daze. They hesitated, their footsteps faltering as they feared to step forward. From the display they just witnessed, it was clear that Gu He was a dangerous man. Two of their friends were already twitching on the ground.
Gu He kicked one of the downed boys aside, picked up a dirty jacket, and threw it over Zhao Yanqin’s head. His voice was chillingly dark. “Put it on.”
“Little Teacher Gu.” The young man, who stood at six feet tall, now followed behind him like a stray dog, head bowed and trembling.
“The items.” Gu He delivered a merciless kick to one of the boys, who curled up in pain.
“I do not, I do not have them. Who the hell would keep photos of a freak like that?” The boy speaking was the one Gu He had beaten black and blue.
Gu He glanced at Zhao Yanqin. “Is that so?”
Zhao Yanqin looked at him, his tears starting to fall uncontrollably. At this moment, Gu He was his guardian angel; every word he spoke brought a sense of security. Though he was conflicted and pained, he managed to say, “There, there are more.”
“Damn it!” The boy’s eyes glared at Zhao Yanqin as if he wanted to skin him alive. Trembling, he pulled out a phone and handed it to Gu He.
Zhao Yanqin shrank back, terrified by the look.
As Gu He looked through the photo album, he saw a mess of different faces and images. It was clear that these boys did this often.
“Little Teacher Gu, watch out!”
Suddenly, Gu He felt a heavy blow to his back. He looked up to see a familiar face, followed by a group of people.
Several men climbed out of a dusty van in the distance. The sound of disorganized footsteps stopped right in front of Gu He.
“Found you, 027.”
Gu He did not respond. He looked at that face in silence and moved to strike.
“Using what I taught you against me? You really are an ungrateful white-eyed wolf.” The middle-aged man pointed at Gu He’s nose and cursed loudly.
Seeing that their reinforcements had arrived, the students regained their arrogance. They scrambled up from the ground, looking at the two of them with newfound bravado. “Uncle Ding.”
The man called Uncle Ding looked at Gu He with contempt. “I have been looking for you for years. So, this is where you have been hiding.”
Gu He remained indifferent to the mockery.
“Capture him and bring him back!”
Gu He never held back in a fight. His movements were simple and direct. However, despite the heavy blows he landed, he could not withstand so many people rushing him at once, especially since they were all strong, grown men.
His vision blurred as a sudden, sharp pain shot through his arm. It felt dislocated as it was pinned behind his back. A club struck his calf with sudden force, causing his teeth to slam together and bite his tongue. The taste of blood spread through his mouth.
He was grabbed by the collar and slammed against a wall. Even then, he remained calm without a trace of panic, possessing the icy demeanor of a desperate man.
Just as he was about to accept the next blow, he waited several seconds, but the expected pain never came. He looked up to find that everyone had frozen in place.
Suddenly, a heavy sound filled the air.
The next second, the man known as “Uncle Ding” was thrown like a piece of trash toward a nearby bin. He writhed on the ground for a long time before he could barely crawl up to see who had arrived. His heart sank as if into an abyss, and his lips trembled as he uttered two words: “Seventh Master.”
The group of delinquent students was even more terrified. They had never seen such a large-scale confrontation. To these men, the students’ daily antics were nothing more than child’s play. Now, they all stood frozen like wooden statues.
Gu He gasped for air. He recognized a familiar face, and behind that man stood a group of highly trained men, each holding sophisticated, heavy firearms. It was no wonder no one dared to move.
He Yunqi’s gaze was like a sharp blade, slowly scanning him like a venomous snake coiling tightly around his chest, making it impossible to breathe.
“Deal with it.”
He Yunqi spoke with the weight of a command. Despite his impeccable appearance, his suit, shirt, and leather shoes projecting the image of a corporate elite, he could not hide the palpable aura of a killer.
