After Falling for the Handsome CEO - Chapter 38
Chapter 38: An Unforgettable Dream
Shen Jin lay in the hospital ward for several days before finally waking up. Some color had returned to his face, but due to severe dehydration and low blood pressure, he remained bedridden and weak.
The moment he opened his eyes, he stared blankly at the ceiling. Smelling the scent of disinfectant, he lowered his gaze to the hand connected to the IV drip. A faint, strained twitch played at the corners of his lips on his frail face.
He thought: Finally, someone helped me. It’s not so painful anymore…
…That person… was it Yan Yu?
When he collapsed, the call he had placed was to him. Although it was disconnected… perhaps Yan Yu had been worried… and went to see him, bringing him to the hospital…
His hollow, vacant eyes gradually cleared. He scanned the room, his weak lips moving slightly as he struggled to force out two syllables: “A… Yu…”
Aside from himself, there was no one else in the room. His call was met with a long, suffocating silence.
A moment later, the door was pushed open. The light in Shen Jin’s unfocused eyes flickered instantly. He turned his head urgently, unable to suppress a call: “A—”
The small smile squeezed onto his pale face froze. He stared blankly at the startled figure of Bai Yujin standing in the doorway.
Bai Yujin froze for a second. “You’re awake?”
Shen Jin stared at him dazed, pursing his lips and nodding slightly. Although he tried to force a smile for Bai Yujin, a flash of profound disappointment flickered in the depths of his eyes when he saw the person wasn’t Yan Yu…
It wasn’t A-Yu…? Then the person in my dream who sat by my side and spoke to me… who was that?
Bai Yujin, holding a bowl of porridge, approached him with a surprised expression. He set the porridge on the table and waved a hand in front of Shen Jin’s face. “Do you know who I am?”
Shen Jin nodded. “I know…”
“Geez!” Bai Yujin let out a sigh of relief and pulled up a chair to sit down. Once the relief passed, he couldn’t help but scold, “Do you have any idea how many days you’ve been unconscious? High fever, severe dehydration, and low blood pressure—if you’d been found even a little later, you wouldn’t have woken up at all!”
“Was it you… who brought me here?” Shen Jin’s throat felt uncomfortable, perhaps because his voice was hoarse from crying that day. He spoke with difficulty, his voice rasping. “Have you… been with me all these days?”
Bai Yujin immediately shot him a huffy glare. “Who else did you think it was?”
Shen Jin was left speechless by the question. The last lingering hope in his heart shattered bit by bit, replaced by an endless wave of bitterness that threatened to drown him. He could only close his eyes, murmuring feebly, “I didn’t… think… it was anyone else…”
Bai Yujin narrowed his eyes, a complex emotion flashing through his peach-blossom eyes before vanishing instantly.
He remembered how Shen Jin had looked while unconscious—lying on the hospital bed with a face full of sorrow, sobbing intermittently:
“A-Yu… it hurts so much… stay with me…”
“A-Yu, it’s so… painful… so cold… hold me, okay…?”
“A-Yu… why don’t you… talk to me… please notice me…”
Now, looking at the same man lying on the bed denying it with closed eyes, Bai Yujin suddenly broke into a silent, bitter laugh.
He thought to himself: That man doesn’t even care about you. Why keep him in your heart and be so unable to let go?
You’ve been in the hospital for days, and he hasn’t even made a single phone call…
Bai Yujin exhaled softly and said slowly, “Your health comes first. You need to rest properly and stop overthinking.”
Shen Jin’s face was still pale against the pure white hospital sheets. He shook his head gently, a shallow curve lifting the corners of his mouth. “I’m not… thinking…”
I just had… a very beautiful… very beautiful dream. Though it was brief, I… cannot forget it…
