- Chapter 7 - Does He Like Me?
Song Lianzhou fled in a flurried escape.
Watching his figure vanish completely at the edge of the doorway, Ye Xisheng finally withdrew his gaze. “Senior Sister Feiyi wanted to see me?”
“Yes, that’s right. I’m here representing my Second Senior Brother and my master to talk to you about some matters.” Feiyi took a seat inside the room with an imposing and swaggering posture. “It’s about my eldest senior brother.”
Ye Xisheng put on an attentive posture, ready to listen. “What matter is it?”
Feiyi drew in a deep breath.
Following that, she dropped a bombshell statement that left him reeling: “I’ll be entrusting my eldest senior brother to you from now on.”
Ye Xisheng’s smile fractured for a split second.
“My Song Senior Brother has always walked alone all these years. Now that he finally has someone he cares for in his heart, we are naturally very happy. Hmph, though I have no idea what on earth senior brother saw in you to take a fancy to you, we can’t say much about senior brother’s choice either,” Feiyi pouted and huffed. “However, if you ever dare to make my senior brother sad, this young lady’s whip won’t let you off.”
“Hold on, Senior Sister Feiyi.” Ye Xisheng finally managed to stabilize the expression on his face, interrupting her. “You mean to say that Song Senior Brother… is fond of me?”
“Right, is it really that hard to see?”
“Forgive my lack of discernment, but I truly didn’t see it.”
“Sigh, then the two of you are both clueless blocks of wood. Well, perhaps senior brother himself hasn’t realized it yet, but we fellow disciples see it crystal clear. When has senior brother ever paid this much attention to anyone else? One can tell at a glance that he has plunged headfirst into the net of romance without even realizing it.” Feiyi spoke with absolute conviction and logic.
Ye Xisheng was stunned into a daze: “Song Senior Brother… pays a lot of attention to me?”
“Of course! My Second Senior Brother said so he frequently sees the eldest senior brother silently keeping watch over you.”
Ye Xisheng: “…”
Events surrounding his eighteenth year in his previous life were far too distant for him to recall clearly, so as to whether this legendary, pristine, immortal-like Song Lianzhou had quietly kept watch over him, he was truly completely oblivious.
Yet judging by the look of it, quite a few people seemed to be aware of the fact that Song Lianzhou cared about him.
“Besides, if Senior Brother Song didn’t like you, why would he rescue you time and time again, worry about your injuries, and even have you come stay by his side so it’s convenient to protect you just because he’s afraid you might be targeted by malicious people again? Is senior brother the type of person who loves meddling in idle business?” Feiyi’s gaze as she looked at him was practically plastered with a blatant “How can you even miss that?”
This unexpected piece of intelligence left Ye Xisheng somewhat dazed for a moment.
His intuition told him that vaguely, something felt slightly off, but upon careful thought, it made complete sense: If not for this, why would someone with Song Lianzhou’s temperament ever spare him a second glance?
Could it be… that Song Lianzhou genuinely liked him?
Ye Xisheng lowered his gaze to look at his own palm, where the sensation of the other’s palm seemed to linger still. The inflamed pink patch on the back of his hand stood out with striking prominence, evoking an involuntary sense of tenderness while simultaneously inspiring a desire to make that patch of pink fade away nevermore.
Unconsciously, Ye Xisheng rubbed his fingers together twice.
Having finished her threats, Feiyi switched to a softer approach: “I know you might not necessarily like my senior brother, but feelings can always be cultivated over time, right? Besides, you have no idea what a wonderful person my senior brother is, and how worthy he is of being loved. Who knows, perhaps after spending a long time together with my senior brother, you’ll unconsciously fall in love with him.”
“When that time comes, we’ll have Master serve as your witness for the wedding, and we’ll throw a grand, extravagant celebration right here in the sect…”
Watching this young miss’s imagination run further and further off course, Ye Xisheng hurriedly spoke up to halt her: “Senior Sister, matters haven’t even been settled yet; why are you already thinking so far ahead?”
“Huh?!” Feiyi instantly grew displeased, leaping up with her whip in hand. “What do you mean by ‘matters haven’t been settled yet’? Are you planning to reject my senior brother? Do you want to watch him finally manage to like someone, only to lose so thoroughly that he ends up heartbroken, abandoned, completely alone, wandering off to some cliff to throw himself down and forsake everything in this world?!”
Ye Xisheng: “…” That was quite the wild flight of imagination.
“I didn’t mean that either,” Ye Xisheng sighed, ultimately compromising just a fraction. “As for my interactions with Senior Brother, I will consider them carefully.”
“Fine, then. After all, it’s a major event in your life, so you should think it over carefully.” The persuasion having achieved far better results than she had anticipated, Feiyi stood up and dumped a pile of spiritual stones, spiritual herbs, medicinal pills, and talismans out of her storage ring. “Consider these as a token of thanks from Senior Sister.”
“Senior brother has always held himself to exceptionally strict standards since he was little, and he’s used to being solemn. We all hope senior brother can be a bit happier. The senior brother I spent time with today was the most emotionally vivid version of him I have ever seen.”
“He possesses dual water and wind spiritual roots, yet all this time he has only ever exhibited the tranquility and far-reaching stillness of water, lacking the unrestrained freedom and untamed spirit of wind. The Third Elder once cast a divination for him, saying it was because he hadn’t yet found the person who could allow him to become the wind.”
“If senior brother likes you, then you must be someone who shines just as brightly as he does.”
Just as Feiyi was about to step out the front door, Ye Xisheng called out to stop her: “Senior Sister Feiyi, wait a moment.”
“Senior Sister possesses exceptional medical skill; I wonder if you happen to have any medicine capable of rapidly curing scalds and burns?”
Feiyi replied, “What a coincidence, I happen to have some. Did you get burned?”
Ye Xisheng: “No, it’s for Song Senior Brother. Ordinary burn ointments don’t work fast enough, and senior brother’s pair of hands are meant for wielding the sword how could they be delayed by such trivial matters?”
Come to think of it, he had only himself to blame today; after infusing the teacup with a soul-probing spell, he had hurriedly handed it over to Song Lianzhou.
If he had simply waited for the tea to cool down before presenting it, Song Lianzhou wouldn’t have gotten scalded.
“My, my, that really won’t do; make sure you take this bottle of medicine.” Feiyi wore an enigmatic smile as she rummaged through her storage ring to fish out a tiny porcelain vial. “You give it to my senior brother. Produced by this young lady right here, it guarantees a complete cure with just one application.”
Thanking her, Ye Xisheng took the medicine and returned to his own room, then sat staring blankly at the tiny porcelain vial.
For the first time since his rebirth, ripples had stirred within his heart.
Does he like me?
Really or falsely?
Before he became a half-god in his previous life, virtually no one paid him any attention, let alone liked him. Later on, when he became the foremost person in the Nine Provinces, people regarded him with awe and reverence, making it even less likely for anyone to harbor romantic affection toward him.
Even if someone truly had, he would have forgotten all about it long ago across the span of his long, protracted life.
Being indirectly confessed to like this was quite a novel experience indeed.
Ye Xisheng looked at his reflection in the mirror. Although the youth’s face in the glass still appeared somewhat youthful, a sharp, fierce bone structure was already beginning to emerge between his brows.
Am I good-looking? Ye Xisheng thought to himself.
What on earth did Song Lianzhou like about him anyway?
And during the time he had spent secretly observing him, what kind of Ye Xisheng had the other actually seen?
