- Chapter 23 - The Midnight Battle Dress
The next morning, Su Jin woke up early and packed her things, preparing to head to the film set with Ye Qinglan.
Unexpectedly, she received a call from the director before she could even step out the door.
Lately, the public sentiment online had shifted drastically. A swarm of paparazzi was camping out at the filming site. Considering the safety of the actors, the director, after consulting with the producer, decided to adjust the shooting schedule. They would postpone Su Jin and Ye Qinglan’s scenes and film the supporting cast’s parts first.
The director’s voice on the other end was kind and cordial.
“Teacher Ye, you and Teacher Su should take this time to rest well at home. Once the online heat dies down, you can come back to film.”
Before Ye Qinglan could speak, Su Jin, sitting beside her, immediately grabbed the phone and said confidently, “Director, please don’t believe the online rumors. We definitely won’t affect the crew.”
“No, no, no, we certainly believe Teacher Ye is innocent. But the current trend online is very strong, and the set is surrounded by paparazzi and fans. We are simply worried about the safety of both teachers.”
The director immediately clarified his stance. “Rest assured, after these few days of rest, we’ll be racing against the clock to catch up on the progress!”
“So, these few days are the last bits of leisure for you two. We’re about to start filming here, so I won’t disturb your rest. We’ll talk about everything once you’re back with the crew!”
The director rambled through his explanation and promptly hung up.
“Hello? Dire”
There was nothing but the rhythmic beep, beep, beep from the receiver.
Su Jin slumped into her chair, dejected, and slammed her hand on the table. “Someone is definitely pulling strings behind the scenes! This is clearly aimed at you.”
Ye Qinglan picked up the phone Su Jin had tossed onto the table and comforted her, “It’s just a couple of days off. It’s not a big deal.”
“How is this not a big deal? People online don’t care if the leave of absence is real or fake. They’ll just think the crew couldn’t handle the public pressure and are tactfully replacing the actors. Doesn’t this just validate the fake news those marketing accounts are spreading?”
“It certainly invites that kind of association,” Ye Qinglan smiled faintly. “The company has already issued a statement, and those responsible for the rumors have been sued. The tide is already turning.”
“Then the director’s side…”
A flash of mockery crossed Ye Qinglan’s eyes. “It’s just a warning. The producer for this show is Song Jing.”
Hearing this, Su Jin understood immediately. This was Song Jing threatening her.
Compared to the investment, an actor was indeed not that important.
Su Jin sighed and fell silent.
For the next few days, neither of them left the house.
News traveled fast at night, one day they discussed Fang Qi, the next day Ye Qinglan. All sorts of gossip emerged endlessly.
Su Jin was so preoccupied with the online trends that she had no heart for her tasks.
Under the system’s repeated urging, she reluctantly prepared a cup of coffee to go find Ye Qinglan.
Standing at the study door, Su Jin’s hand holding the coffee trembled slightly, the porcelain cup clinking against the tray.
【System, didn’t you say 72 hours? The time isn’t up yet. Why are you in such a hurry?】
【You have the nerve to ask? Look at how much time you have left!】
The system barked,
【You’re like a mop you only move when someone pushes you.】
【You must take action today, otherwise, even I won’t be able to save you by tomorrow!】
Knowing she was in the wrong, Su Jin took three deep breaths before forcing a smile.
【What are you dawdling for!】
The system’s electronic voice made her temples throb.
【The task is very clear seduce Ye Qinglan and sleep with her!】
“I know, stop nagging!” Su Jin whispered through gritted teeth.
Nag, nag, nag. It was like a death rattle all day long!
【I’m not nagging you because I want to. Just asking you to deliver a cup of coffee to butter her up is like asking for your life! If I don’t push you, we’re both going to the Void World!】
At the mention of the Void World, Su Jin shuddered. She finally made up her mind and knocked on the door.
“Come in.”
Ye Qinglan’s voice came from behind the door.
Su Jin pushed the door open and found her looking at a computer screen, which displayed the recent trending topics on Weibo.
Sure enough, the news of the crew letting them rest had been leaked, and now the entire internet was claiming they had been abandoned by the production.
This further fueled the rumors about Ye Qinglan.
Seeing her, Ye Qinglan’s gaze softened for a moment before turning sharp. “What are you doing here?”
Su Jin stared at the trending topics on the screen, her mind filled with anger.
【Say your lines!】 The system screamed in Su Jin’s head, pulling her back to reality.
“I… I was afraid you’d be too tired.” Su Jin walked forward stiffly. When she placed the coffee on the desk, she intentionally let her fingertips brush against the back of Ye Qinglan’s hand. “I made some coffee specifically for you. Your favorite, an Iced Americano.”
Su Jin met her eyes and blinked rapidly.
Ye Qinglan narrowed her eyes, understanding the situation.
She picked up the coffee with an air of leisure. “You didn’t drug me again, did you?”
Su Jin’s eyes widened, showing a hurt expression. “I didn’t!”
How could she do something so stupid a second time?
“Is that so?”
Ye Qinglan’s gaze sharpened. She suddenly grabbed Su Jin and pulled her into her lap, bringing the coffee to Su Jin’s lips and forcing her chin up.
“Then drink it and show me!”
Su Jin was caught off guard and gulped down a large mouthful. Drinking too fast, she began to choke, spilling it all over her face.
“Ye… cough… Ye Qinglan…” Su Jin opened her mouth wide, unable to finish a sentence.
The unswallowed coffee slid down her cheeks and onto her clothes.
Whether intentional or not, Ye Qinglan’s hand tilted, pouring most of the coffee over Su Jin’s body, where it trickled down her fair skin.
The cool liquid felt like an electric current, causing the air between them to freeze instantly.
Ye Qinglan’s gaze followed the rolling droplets down, where they vanished into the thin fabric. Her eyes suddenly turned dangerous, and she subconsciously swallowed.
It wasn’t until the cup was empty that she released her grip. Watching Su Jin cough wretchedly, a cold smirk curled on her lips. “Remember your place. If you want to keep living in the Ye house, behave yourself, otherwise…”
She leaned close to Su Jin’s ear, her breath hot. “The netizens will tear you to pieces like a stray dog.”
Su Jin collapsed onto the floor, coughing violently. The wet fabric clung to her body, tracing her graceful curves enticingly.
She looked up, her eyes watery as she glared at her.
This part wasn’t in the script!
How could she add her own scenes!
Ye Qinglan blinked, looking innocent. “Sorry, I didn’t know you really couldn’t drink it.”
“But this proves your coffee wasn’t drugged.” She reached out to wipe the coffee stain from the corner of Su Jin’s mouth and then sucked her finger. “You made it yourself; it really does taste good.”
Su Jin’s heart skipped a beat. Her anger dissipated with that light, airy gesture.
“You…” She choked, unable to speak.
Rogue!
Su Jin gnashed her teeth but could say nothing.
In the eyes of the system, they were supposed to be at odds, especially since the previous drugging incident was only a few days ago.
It would be strange if Ye Qinglan had accepted her sudden kindness.
Even though it was a “normal” reaction, the “abused” Su Jin couldn’t stand it!
She scrambled to her feet, the wet fabric sticking to her skin and outlining her silhouette.
She instinctively crossed her arms, only to hear Ye Qinglan chuckle. “What? Shy now?”
Su Jin gave Ye Qinglan an annoyed glare. As she turned to leave, she accidentally stepped on the spilled coffee, slipped, and fell straight backward.
Ye Qinglan was quick, catching her by the waist. Their bodies pressed together seamlessly.
Thump-thump, thump-thump
A heart was racing wildly, she wasn’t sure if it was hers or the other woman’s.
“Than..”
Before her thanks could leave her mouth, she heard the woman who was far too deep in character speak again.
“Throwing yourself into my arms?” Ye Qinglan’s voice suddenly turned husky, her warm palm wandering provocatively around Su Jin’s waist. “Are you that desperate to climb into my bed?”
“I… I’m not!”
She wasn’t in a hurry, it was the system’s task!
But she couldn’t say that in front of the system. She could only stammer, looking like she was playing hard to get.
Ye Qinglan raised an eyebrow. “Really?”
“No!” Su Jin said decisively.
“Well then.” She shook her head with feigned regret. “I was thinking of giving you a chance tonight. Looks like I won’t have to now.”
Having said that, she sat back down, her expression suddenly turning cold and stern. “Get out. Don’t do such pointless things again.”
Su Jin nodded with a sour face and hurried out of the study.
【Damn it!】
The system sighed.
【A perfectly good opportunity wasted!】
Wasted?
Not necessarily.
Su Jin submerged herself in the bathtub, blowing bubbles. Recalling Ye Qinglan’s desire filled gaze, her heart trembled.
Would she sneak over tonight?
If she did, the system would definitely be blocked. That would be the perfect chance to discuss the “task boundaries” with Ye Qinglan again. She didn’t want a repeat of today.
As night fell, the world gradually quieted down.
Su Jin stood before the full length mirror, looking at the “battle dress” the system had forced her to put on a semi-transparent black lace nightgown. The hem was barely long enough to cover the tops of her thighs, and the V-neck plunged almost to her navel.
“How is this different from being naked…” She tugged at the neckline, trying in vain to cover up, only to hear a rip as the V-neck dipped even lower.
Su Jin: “…” Fine, might as well not wear anything.
【That hazy, feeling is exactly what we want!】
【Now, grab the red wine and pretend to be drunk!】
The system commanded excitedly.
【Remember to pull the neckline even lower!】
Su Jin uncomfortably clutched the wine bottle, hesitating to leave her room.
“Do I really have to? Dressing like this in the middle of the night… even a blind man would know what I’m trying to do.”
【Do you want to finish the task or not? Two million!】
The system encouraged.
【For the two million! Charge!】
Su Jin bit the cork off the wine bottle and deliberately spilled a bit on herself before leaving her room.
The strong aroma of wine mixed with her jasmine pheromones triggered by her nerves leaving a sweet, cloying trail down the hallway.
The door to Ye Qinglan’s bedroom was slightly ajar. A flickering shadow could be seen moving inside.
Su Jin took a deep breath and stumbled through the door. “Qinglan… my head is so dizzy…”
