- Chapter 20 - Let Me Help You Remember Some Happiness
Su Jin completely ignored the system’s frantic urging. She supported Ye Qinglan, stumbling through the long hotel corridor.
“Qinglan, can you still walk?” Su Jin whispered. “I’ll take you to the lounge first.”
“Mm…” Ye Qinglan gave a vague response, but her steps became even more unsteady.
Her cheek pressed firmly against the side of Su Jin’s neck. Her warm, alcohol scented breath fanned against Su Jin’s ear, sending an involuntary shiver through Su Jin like an electric shock. Su Jin tried to straighten Ye Qinglan’s body, but the moment she pushed her away slightly, the other woman immediately leaned back in, clinging even tighter.
Helpless, Su Jin could only support her, muttering under her breath, “Honestly, why drink so much if you can’t handle it? You have no sense of self-preservation.”
Ye Qinglan rested her chin on Su Jin’s shoulder, her warm lips nearly brushing against Su Jin’s earlobe. “Drink so much… why?” she mimicked Su Jin’s tone, her voice raspy with intoxication.
Su Jin’s ears turned red from the heat, feeling both anxious and annoyed. “You even know how to mock me! You clearly can’t drink, yet you still…”
Ye Qinglan chuckled low, the scent of alcohol on her breath making Su Jin feel lightheaded. She hung her entire weight on Su Jin like a lazy cat. “Because… that way, you’ll care about me…”
Those words caused Su Jin’s heart to skip a beat.
She didn’t dare dwell on the meaning behind them; she could only struggle to move Ye Qinglan toward the lounge.
The moment the lounge door closed, Ye Qinglan collapsed onto the sofa, her long hair spilling messily across the cushions. Her eyes were half-closed, her long lashes casting faint shadows on her cheeks. In her drunken state, she possessed a startlingly seductive charm.
“Host! Now is the time!” the system’s voice suddenly exploded in her mind. “Put the drug in the water and feed it to her!”
Su Jin’s hand shook, nearly spilling the warm water she had just poured. She looked at Ye Qinglan on the sofa. The woman seemed half-awake, her porcelain cheeks flushed with a drunken glow, looking exceptionally enchanting.
“I… I can’t…” Su Jin resisted in her mind.
“Think of the consequences!” the system threatened sharply. “Electric shocks are just the beginning!”
Intense pain instantly surged through her body. Su Jin grit her teeth to keep from screaming. Her legs gave out, and she knelt on the floor, the water glass hitting the ground with a loud clatter.
“Susu?” Ye Qinglan called out unclearly, seemingly startled by the noise, but she was too drunk to get up and check.
As the pain subsided slightly, the system immediately switched to a seductive tone: “Think of the reward for completing the mission… 100 million. Enough for you to live like a queen in your original world…” It paused, its voice becoming even more tempting. “Ye Qinglan is just using you as a substitute. Why are you still holding out?”
In an instant, the system’s words burrowed into Su Jin’s heart like a venomous snake.
It was true. All of Ye Qinglan’s tenderness was only because of that “old acquaintance.” If she stayed in this world, she would not only suffer the shocks but would eventually lose everything perhaps even ending up imprisoned in the Void World…
Su Jin’s fingers trembled as she reached for the vial in her pocket. Mechanically, she pulled it out. The colorless, odorless liquid dripped into a fresh glass of water, vanishing instantly.
“Very good, just like that,” the system urged excitedly. “Go feed it to her, then take her to Room 2103. Your mission will be complete.”
Su Jin carried the glass toward the sofa, every step feeling like she was treading on cotton. Ye Qinglan lay there quietly, her collar slightly open, revealing her delicate collarbones. Her breathing was steady; she seemed to have fallen asleep.
“Ye Qinglan…” Su Jin called softly, her voice shaking uncontrollably. “Have some water…”
Ye Qinglan opened her eyes slightly. Her misty gaze fell on the glass, then moved to Su Jin’s face. Those eyes, usually so cold, were now brimming with moisture and a deep, swirling affection that made Su Jin’s heart ache fiercely.
She leaned toward Su Jin, whispering “Susu,” and moved her mouth toward the glass.
“No!” Su Jin suddenly pulled the glass away. “Even if I die, I can’t do this!”
She blocked Ye Qinglan’s movement, her eyes filled with resolve as she turned to pour the water into the trash can.
In the next moment, her wrist was suddenly seized.
The supposedly drunken Ye Qinglan had opened her eyes wide at some point, and her gaze was perfectly clear.
“Susu,” she called out affectionately, leaning in close. “The water. Give it to me.”
Su Jin was struck with panic. “No… no…”
Before she could finish, Ye Qinglan suddenly snatched the glass and, under Su Jin’s shocked gaze, drank it all in one gulp.
“Don’t drink it” Su Jin lunged forward in horror, but Ye Qinglan used the momentum to pull her into her arms.
“Sister,” Ye Qinglan’s voice was laced with amusement, showing not a hint of intoxication. “After all this time, you still haven’t learned how to seduce someone?” Her arm clamped around Su Jin’s waist like an iron vice, while her other hand caressed Su Jin’s cheek. “Let me teach you.”
Su Jin’s eyes widened, her body stiff. “You… you aren’t drunk? Then that water…”
“Shh.” Ye Qinglan pressed her thumb against Su Jin’s lips, leaning into her ear. Her warm breath fanned against Su Jin’s sensitive skin. “I know exactly what was in that water.”
These words were like a thunderbolt striking Su Jin’s head.
She trembled violently, unable to believe her ears. “You… you knew?”
Ye Qinglan gave a light laugh and suddenly flipped over, pinning Su Jin onto the sofa.
“I know much more than you think, Sister.” Her fingertips lightly traced the shape of Su Jin’s lips. “For example… I know you aren’t the original Su Jin at all.”
Su Jin’s pupils contracted sharply, her heart nearly leapt out of her chest. Ye Qinglan knew she was a transmigrator? Then everything before this…
“You’ve been acting this whole time?” Her voice was shattered.
Ye Qinglan’s gaze suddenly softened. “Not entirely.” She leaned down, her forehead resting against Su Jin’s. “I’ve just… been waiting for Sister to remember me.”
Su Jin was completely bewildered. “What? I don’t understand…”
“Host! Danger!” the system suddenly issued a piercing alarm. “Leave immediate”
The system’s voice cut off abruptly, replaced by a burst of harsh electronic static. Su Jin felt a splitting headache, her vision darkening.
“Make it quiet,” Ye Qinglan said coldly to the empty air.
As soon as the words left her mouth, the static from Su Jin’s system vanished instantly.
“What is going on?” Su Jin was beyond shocked.
“The system’s signal is temporarily blocked,” Ye Qinglan whispered with a smile. “Enough for us to finish talking.” She hovered over Su Jin, her long hair falling around them as she leaned in close. “Sister, do you really not remember me?”
Su Jin shook her head blankly. A flash of disappointment crossed Ye Qinglan’s eyes, but it was quickly replaced by determination.
“It’s okay,” she said softly. “I’ll help Sister remember.”
With that, she suddenly lowered her head and kissed Su Jin’s lips.
“Now, let me help Sister recall some happy things.”
