- Chapter 3 - Coaxing My Wife (Coaxing a wife isn't as simple as you think, just because you want to, doesn't mean she'll get better.)
Thinking of this, Ning Ke immediately called out to the nurse with a serious face. “I feel like my body is completely fine now. Time is life, Nurse. I believe I shouldn’t waste my life.”
The nurse understood her meaning. Flipping open the medical record book, she asked, “You don’t want the IV drip?”
Ning Ke nodded vigorously like a pecking chicken.
“That won’t do. Dean Ning gave us explicit instructions.”
Ning Ke’s face slumped instantly.
However, the nurse gave a small, secret laugh at that moment: “But the good news is, this is the last bottle. I can speed up the rate a little for you.”
Ning Ke’s eyes lit up, “Thank you!”
After tossing and turning for another hour, the moment Ning Ke was finally able to get out of bed, she immediately headed to the adjacent ward to see Fan Qingyin.
Jokes aside, that woman was her source of life, she couldn’t afford to neglect her.
Unfortunately, luck was not on her side. Right at the entrance, she ran into Fan Qingyin’s manager, Qi Pan. Qi Pan clearly held a terrible impression of Ning Ke, and his brow furrowed the absolute instant he laid eyes on her.
Ning Ke originally wanted to ignore him, but this man proactively approached to block her path. Ning Ke’s brow furrowed in return. As her pheromones flared, a faint scent of citrus directly suppressed him, forcing him to take a step back.
Fan Qingyin’s manager was a male Alpha, but even between Alphas, there were genetic advantages. This advantage manifested directly in pheromone suppression.
The Ning family was an elite clan, so her genetic superiority was naturally not something a common Alpha could compete with. Giving him a warning glare, she reined in her pheromones a bit and spoke, “Move aside. I have matters to discuss with Qingyin.”
Qi Pan replied coldly, “My apologies, but Qingyin needs to rest right now. Miss Ning should come back another day.”
“Are you sure?” Ning Ke countered.
“Of course.”
“What if I insist on seeing her today?” Ning Ke’s tone grew unyielding, refusing to back down as she spoke, “Do I really need your permission to visit my own wife?”
By now, Fan Qingyin’s manager was breaking out in a cold sweat. Seeing that Ning Ke looked ready to force her way inside, he grew anxious.
“Is this the only tactic you have? Relying on your wealth to do whatever you please? If it weren’t for the Ning family shielding you, forcing an Omega into heat is a crime that would get you sent straight to the judicial authorities for sentencing!”
“You’d better hope you never find out what other tactics I have,” Ning Ke sneered. “Besides, ‘if there were no Ning family’ is a complete and utter fallacy. The fact is, I have the Ning family backing me. There is no ‘if,’ understand?”
“Furthermore, this is a matter between me and Fan Qingyin. What right do you have, an outsider, to gossip and meddle between a married couple? And calling her ‘Qingyin, Qingyin’ so intimately?”
Ning Ke stared down into his eyes, her posture exceedingly domineering as she enunciated each word clearly. “Mr. Qi, please recognize your own position. Don’t forget that your top boss is still my third brother. It’s best to crush certain delusional fantasies right in their cradle.”
Having his true intentions exposed so bluntly, Qi Pan’s face turned pale. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but it was ultimately in vain.
His neck bent at a humiliating angle. Under Ning Ke’s unwavering gaze, he could only stiffly step aside. Ning Ke sneered once more and, without saying another word, pushed open the door and walked inside.
She certainly hadn’t missed the sheer malice in the manager’s eyes, but she didn’t care.
She could accept Fan Qingyin treating her poorly, but since when did every random nobody think they could walk all over her? This was a world from her own pen. Even if things were slightly out of control right now due to some errors, it couldn’t change the fact that these paper characters were created by her.
Threaten her? He wasn’t even worthy!
However, as the old saying goes, there is always one thing to conquer another. Ning Ke, who had just finished scolding someone and felt thoroughly refreshed and triumphant, suddenly wilted a bit upon seeing Fan Qingyin inside the room.
Lying on the hospital bed, Fan Qingyin didn’t seem to notice anything that had occurred at the door.
Her eyes were closed, her breathing steady, and her pale little face was sunken into the pillow. The curve of her nose and jawline appeared exceptionally delicate, making her look just like a fairy tale Sleeping Beauty.
Ning Ke admired Fan Qingyin’s beauty for a while before looking around the room. She picked up a fruit knife, intending to peel an apple for her.
Induced heat causes massive depletion to the body. Eating an apple could help replenish some nutrients, and what if it happened to make Fan Qingyin happy?
If she was happy, then Ning Ke would be happy. After all, who wouldn’t be overjoyed to gain a few more hours of life?
While Ning Ke was happily daydreaming on one side, her eyes scanned the other furnishings in the ward. However, after searching for a long time, she couldn’t find a single piece of fruit that needed peeling.
If that were all, it would be fine, but for some reason, Ning Ke suddenly felt a chill run down her spine, as if someone was watching her…
Ning Ke rubbed the sudden goosebumps on her arms, reasoning that the room temperature wasn’t cold at all. Why was it so unnerving? It was creepy enough that she couldn’t help but take a step back.
Then, suddenly realizing something, Ning Ke stiffly turned her head, only to see Fan Qingyin staring at her with clear, dark eyes.
For a moment, she was scared out of her wits.
No matter how beautiful the eyes were, they couldn’t mask such an icy glare! Ning Ke trembled with fear inside, yet she had to maintain a calm expression on the outside.
Even though she knew that with Fan Qingyin’s intelligence, her bluffs had likely been seen through long ago, one could lose the battle but couldn’t lose face. Ning Ke refused to admit defeat!
After struggling for a long while, she finally managed to squeeze out a placating smile, “You… you’re awake? How, how do you feel?”
Fan Qingyin stared at her expressionlessly without uttering a single word. Her small face, nestled within the pristine white sheets, appeared increasingly deathly pale.
After steadying her mind for a moment, Ning Ke suddenly got the impression that Fan Qingyin looked very fragile. She paused, remembering what the system had told her earlier, that Fan Qingyin had been happy when she fainted.
So, since she had just been frightened to that extent, why was Fan Qingyin still unhappy?
Ning Ke blinked with a hint of confusion. Her fingers instinctively tightened, and she shifted half a step closer, her expression hesitant as if she wanted to speak but stopped.
Fan Qingyin’s long eyelashes suddenly fluttered. Ning Ke heard her take a deep, sharp breath before she suddenly asked, “Ning Ke, how come I never noticed before that you have a talent for acting?”
Ning Ke: “Huh?”
“Entering my ward with a knife while I was asleep, and then putting on an act of being frightened by me at the end, what exactly are you trying to perform?”
Fan Qingyin was slightly out of breath after saying all this in one go. After taking quite a while to compose herself, she let out a cold laugh. “Do whatever you want. Anyway, since your Ning family can turn even the matter of you forcing me into heat into a trivial affair, what’s a little murder to silence me? You might as well just give me a swift end.”
Ning Ke was utterly dumbfounded. She hurriedly let go, and the fruit knife hit the floor with a loud clang, but neither of them cared about it.
Especially Ning Ke. She had still held onto a shred of delusion that Fan Qingyin might be joking. Before her favorability could drop any further, she quickly spoke up to salvage the situation:
“No, no, no, you’ve misunderstood! I wanted to peel an apple for you! I just couldn’t find the fruit basket…”
“Heh, of course there is no fruit basket. My family members are all dead. With you around, who would dare come near me? Who would send me a fruit basket?”
Hearing Fan Qingyin say this, Ning Ke’s heart tightened. Sure enough, the system’s notification rang out immediately. “Target character’s favorability -3. 6 hours of lifespan have been deducted from the Host. Please keep trying.”
Ning Ke: ???
She only had twelve hours left in total, and this directly cut it down by more than half? System, try being human for once!
No, Fan Qingyin, try being human for once!
Ning Ke wanted to cry but had no tears. Yet, she didn’t dare say anything more, only able to meekly admit her mistake in a low voice. “This really was an accident. I just… I was wrong, I’m sorry. I truly know I was wrong.”
“Don’t be sad, I really didn’t mean it that way…”
Fan Qingyin remained completely silent. Ning Ke couldn’t bear this suffocating quiet, so she could only bite the bullet and continue speaking.
“Um, I heard that induced heat can leave some aftereffects or something. Um, do you need any help?”
Even though Ning Ke spoke hesitantly, it didn’t stop Fan Qingyin’s fury from erupting this time. Once the white rabbit turned dark, even her strength increased. She grabbed a pillow at random, and it scored a perfect hit right against Ning Ke’s head.
Ning Ke hurriedly fumbled to take it off, clutching the pillow like a student who had committed a blunder.
However, this didn’t diffuse Fan Qingyin’s anger at all. She breathed heavily a few times, then threw a sentence straight at her face. “Either sign the divorce papers, or get the hell out!”
Ning Ke could only blink innocently at Fan Qingyin, “Then… if I sign the divorce papers, does that mean I don’t have to get the hell out?”
Fan Qingyin choked, her eyes widening as she stared at her in sheer disbelief. Then, she let out a cold laugh. Under Ning Ke’s expectant gaze, she spat out icily, “Say that one more time?”
Ning Ke didn’t dare to play the fool anymore, nor did she dare to provoke Fan Qingyin further. Although her favorability hadn’t dropped just now, what if Fan Qingyin suddenly remembered to do it later?
She couldn’t take the risk, absolutely couldn’t take the risk.
Ning Ke retreated from the ward and closed the door. Leaning against the adjacent wall, she pondered deeply for a while. Letting her return to her own ward to lie down right now was no different from waiting to die, so she still had to pester Fan Qingyin.
But what could she do? Fan Qingyin didn’t even want to hear a single word of her warm inquiries or solicitous care.
It seemed she still had to prove herself through actual actions. Ning Ke clenched her fists tightly.
The damage caused to the body by induced heat wasn’t just talk. Fan Qingyin felt as though she couldn’t summon a single shred of strength throughout her entire body. She had finally managed to rest for a bit when Ning Ke crept back inside, even holding a knife in her hand.
Who could possibly sleep through that? Fan Qingyin’s headache grew even more severe. Her erratic pheromones left her emotions hanging in limbo, and looking at Ning Ke filled her with nothing but absolute loathing.
When that pillow struck Ning Ke, Fan Qingyin had even wished she were holding that fruit knife instead. But there was nothing she could do; she could only watch as Ning Ke effortlessly removed the item she had thrown with all her might.
Fortunately, Ning Ke still knew what was good for her and finally had the sense to get out on her own. Otherwise, Fan Qingyin truly doubted whether, under the torture of her headache, she would abandon all her plans and simply drag that piece of scum down to the grave with her!
She still had a bright future ahead of her. How could she die alongside a piece of human trash like Ning Ke? Fan Qingyin took a deep breath, trying her best to calm her emotions.
Endure. She absolutely had to endure, find an opportunity to cast off this piece of scum Ning Ke, and cast off everything that had been forced upon her.
