After Dissing The Aloof Omega In A Talent Show - Chapter 11
Ming Tang: Other Alphas Are So Annoying.
Fastidious?
Ming Tang looked at Qi Deng with a flicker of amusement.
“Maybe so.”
Ming Tang watched Chi Ling navigate through the crowd. With her arms crossed over her chest, she wove through the densely packed room, passing by everyone without a single piece of clothing brushing against another.
Carefully recalling her memories, Ming Tang realized she truly couldn’t remember Chi Ling ever engaging in highly intimate actions with anyone.
“She really doesn’t seem to have much physical contact with people.”
Jian Jiahe shook her head with deep meaning. “Tsk, do you guys actually understand the sheer weight of being an unapproachable ‘high-mountain flower’?”
Hearing this, Ming Tang raised an eyebrow.
Because the public persona Chi Ling usually projected was cool, elegant, and aloof, people automatically felt that their own emotions were nothing more than mundane, worldly noise whenever they met her calm, indifferent eyes. Chi Ling existed completely above it all.
“It’s exactly that disdain, that feeling of being independent of the world, that concept of ‘something to be viewed from afar but not to be trifled with’!” Jian Jiahe said with absolute certainty.
“Yes, yes, exactly.” Qi Deng chimed in immediately, her eyes full of intoxication as she gazed at Chi Ling from a distance.
Looking at the two of them, Ming Tang felt a wave of speechlessness wash over her.
Ming Tang, who had always possessed a non-competitive nature and got along amiably with everyone or rather, simply didn’t care how others viewed her, felt a faint, instinctive revulsion toward her fellow Alphas for the very first time.
Alphas are so annoying.
Qi Deng, whose attention had been entirely fixed on Chi Ling, suddenly felt the hairs on her back stand up. Rubbing her arms, she muttered, “Why did it suddenly get so cold… Did someone mess with the air conditioning?”
Jian Jiahe also sucked in a breath of cold air. “That shouldn’t be…”
The culprit silently averted her gaze.
She couldn’t keep thinking about this.
The moment she thought about how others would analyze and critique Chi Ling, an inexplicable irritation would flare up inside her.
Even if it was just admiration, it still wasn’t okay.
To put an end to these strange, stray thoughts, Ming Tang turned around and threw herself even more intensely into her practice.
Yet, her ears felt as though they were bugged with a tracker directly linked to Chi Ling. Even though the small speaker playing the theme song was much closer to her, she could always distinctly catch Chi Ling’s voice, drifting near and far.
“…Step your right foot straight back.”
“Tighten your core.”
“Keep your waist and hips stable after turning.”
Chi Ling’s instructions were crisp and concise. The group of trainees looked like they were undergoing military training, one command, one move and when they finished, they didn’t forget to express their immense gratitude to Chi Ling.
The few trainees who had initially booed when they heard Chi Ling was the one making the suggestion had now gone quiet. They practiced silently on the side, their eyes darting toward Chi Ling from time to time, likely hoping deep down that Chi Ling would actively come over to help them out as well.
Ming Tang suddenly had a slight suspicion, could she not be the only person targeted by a system?
With Chi Ling shining so brilliantly, perhaps she also carried some kind of “heartthrob” or “protagonist aura” system.
When everyone lost track of time, time flew by in a flash.
“Let’s go, let’s go. My stomach is practically sticking to my spine.”
“Can the cafeteria please start a room service delivery option?”
As the sky turned dark, the group finally remembered to rest. Clamoring about how hungry they were, they dragged their left feet after their right feet, shuffling sluggishly toward the cafeteria, stripped entirely of the enthusiasm they had shown at noon.
Chi Ling still walked with Ming Tang. Qiao Xiangshu was also waiting for the two of them at the entrance of the training building, and now, Qi Deng and Jian Jiahe had tagged along too.
The other trainees from Class F had also completely changed their opinions of Chi Ling over the course of the afternoon, making the atmosphere exaggeratedly lively.
Just like at noon, Chi Ling only picked out a few vegetarian items at the counter.
Looking at the combination alone, it resembled a typical fat-loss meal, except it didn’t even include chicken breast.
“Goddess, your self-discipline is insane!” someone cried out in surprise.
Ming Tang gnawed on a cola chicken wing, utterly unable to comprehend how Chi Ling could bear to eat such tasteless looking food when the program’s cafeteria possessed such impressive culinary skills, the savory aroma of the dishes could be smelled clearly within a fifteen-meter radius.
Looking at that vibrant green bowl, Ming Tang remembered the miserable days of eating boiled vegetables every day at her agency, and she quickly shoved two more bites of rice drizzled with sauce into her mouth.
Rice is definitely better.
“The cafeteria chefs are so talented. Could this be some alternative method of evaluation?”
Qiao Xiangshu was highly receptive to making new friends and picked up the conversation, asking, “What could this possibly evaluate?”
“For example, getting eliminated if you gain weight,” Qi Deng gestured.
Ming Tang let out a laugh at that. “No way. This is a survival show; elimination is based entirely on rankings, they won’t pick on your body shape.”
Chi Ling, who had been burying her head in her “grass” without uttering a single word since they sat down, suddenly interjected.
“As long as you are strong enough, you will be seen.”
Hearing her voice, Ming Tang turned her head, only to see Chi Ling’s profile, she still hadn’t lifted her head or turned her direction.
A strand of hair fell perfectly across her cheek, unable to obscure the superior line of her perky nose; instead, it framed her already exquisite facial structure with a lazy, hazy beauty.
“No one has the right to eliminate a hardworking and talented person on such grounds in a fair, competitive environment.”
Qiao Xiangshu nodded with absolute conviction. “Exactly, isn’t Chi Ling herself a perfect example? She…”
Seeing that Qiao Xiangshu was about to say more, Ming Tang discreetly gave her a gentle kick under the table, signaling her not to continue.
Fortunately, everyone nodded in agreement upon hearing those words. There was no need for anyone to recount how the past Chi Ling had stood out among a crowd of trainees, or how she had bridged an objective generational gap to achieve the glorious feat of a cross-generation debut.
Everyone was also well aware of the ugly fallout between Chi Ling and Huayin later on. No one would be stupid enough to bring those matters up to her face.
“Why does a casual meal have to turn into such a serious topic?” Ming Tang laughed it off, shifting the subject. “Let’s give each other some breathing room. We finally managed to escape the practice room, and this little bit of food isn’t even enough to replenish what you all burned off.”
“Yeah, exactly, stop overthinking things,” Qiao Xiangshu chimed in repeatedly.
“An Omega eating dinner with a pack of Alphas, aren’t you afraid of getting covered in their scent?”
A airy, floating remark drifted over. Ming Tang raised her head almost instantly, her brows furrowing as she glared toward the source of the voice.
A figure in light pastel yellow glided past.
It was the color scheme of the Class B training uniform.
And that silhouette, the one who had casually dropped a malice-laden comment before walking away unhurriedly was someone Ming Tang knew all too well.
“Nie Wenyu, is it really necessary to speak with such barbs?”
Nie Wenyu was another trainee that Huayin had placed its bets on with high hopes for a debut. Surprisingly, however, she hadn’t secured a spot in Class A during the initial evaluation like Qi Zhen had.
Qi Zhen was standing right next to her. The silhouette in the water-blue T-shirt also stiffened slightly after Ming Tang spoke up.
“What era are we living in for your mindset to be this narrow? I’ve never heard of a rule saying Alphas and Omegas can’t share a dining table.”
“Did I say something wrong?” Nie Wenyu turned around holding her meal tray. Taking advantage of the fact that she was standing while the others were seated, she assumed a highly overbearing posture. “Aren’t the rest of you Alphas?”
“As an Omega, she’d better show some self-respect. Otherwise, it’ll sound incredibly unseemly if word gets out.”
Nie Wenyu smiled, her eyes sweeping over the entire table with contempt before intentionally coming to a halt between Ming Tang and Chi Ling.
Ming Tang stood up. She was taller than Nie Wenyu, and as she looked down with her chin slightly raised, her cold expression actually caused a strange sense of pressure to swell within Nie Wenyu.
“Unseemly? I thought that in this place, talent is the only voice that matters.”
“How hilarious. What right do you have to mock my talent?”
Although Nie Wenyu was choked up with rage by Ming Tang’s retort, she still carried herself with arrogant pride, drawing a capital “F” in midair with her index finger.
“Well, I certainly have the right, don’t I?” Qiao Xiangshu looked at Nie Wenyu with a face full of disdain. “After all this time, you haven’t changed a single bit.”
“But it looks to me like your scar healed and you’ve forgotten the pain. You don’t seem to remember that you left a few things behind with Ming Tang and me.”
Ming Tang gave Nie Wenyu a highly gentle and harmless smile, silently mouthing a few words.
