- Chapter 10 - Another Relapse, Just Give me a Little bit of Pheromones
The warm breath sprayed squarely onto the sensitive skin of Ming Tang’s side neck. A tingling, numbing sensation spread like a weak electric current.
Instinctively, Ming Tang tilted her head slightly, wanting to escape this entirely foreign sensation. Her earlobe, however, brushed against Chi Ling’s lips, which still carried the dampness of warm water.
It felt as if her entire body had been jolted by electricity. Ming Tang gave a light shudder.
“Uncomfortable again?”
Ming Tang’s breathing had fallen out of rhythm in an instant, but she couldn’t worry about anything else right now.
Chi Ling nodded. “Just give me a little bit of pheromones…”
They certainly couldn’t go to the pantry. Chi Ling had just clearly expressed her discomfort with that environment. Even Ming Tang could smell the lingering scent of Yu Wenqing’s pheromones. As an Omega in her heat cycle, Chi Ling’s perception of pheromones would only be more sensitive than hers.
Perhaps part of the reason Chi Ling hated that environment was because of Yu Wenqing’s pheromones.
So, it wasn’t just any Alpha’s pheromones that could work on Chi Ling’s secret condition?
Wisps of a faint white tea fragrance had already begun to wrap themselves around Ming Tang with great familiarity.
Ming Tang glanced into the classroom. Everyone was still resting idly, the space was large and crowded, and there were Omega trainees present. It clearly wasn’t a suitable place for her to use pheromones to soothe Chi Ling.
“Wait for me. Let’s go to the restroom.”
Ming Tang took the glass from Chi Ling’s hand, placed it with her own cup, and hurriedly tucked them into her locker. She then ran out from the scattered crowd, grabbed Chi Ling’s wrist, and headed for the restroom at a brisk pace.
Chi Ling obediently allowed Ming Tang to lead her quickly.
The scent of menthol cleared Ming Tang’s mind for a moment. Although the scent of Chi Ling’s pheromones was faint, its effectiveness was undiminished. Ming Tang, who already had no defenses against Chi Ling, easily succumbed to its influence.
“Ming Tang… is here okay?”
The small stall held two people at once, making even turning around a struggle. In the cramped space, the distance between them was compressed to nearly nothing.
Chi Ling’s voice was very low. That familiar breath once again pressed against the hollow of Ming Tang’s collarbone, swirling down bit by bit. The sounds of the world vanished, all Ming Tang could hear was Chi Ling’s increasingly hurried breathing.
Her throat felt blocked. Ming Tang gave a muffled “Mm.”
Ming Tang held Chi Ling’s shoulders, summoning the previous feeling and letting her pheromones meet Chi Ling’s without any aggression.
“Is this okay?” Ming Tang asked softly, looking at Chi Ling, whose eyes were lightly closed due to her extreme discomfort.
“Mm,” Chi Ling responded. After a pause, she added in a soft, tender voice, “I just want a little bit more…”
“I’m exhausted, this is so hard to learn…”
Someone entered the restroom, complaining to a fellow trainee.
“Splash some water on your face to cool down, then let’s head back. Time is so tight.”
Then came the sound of the faucet being turned on, water rushing over the counter, and the sound of water being scooped up and splashed.
Hearing the noise, Ming Tang’s back stiffened with tension. Her grip on Chi Ling’s hand subconsciously tightened. Her gaze as she looked down at Chi Ling was laced with caution and nervousness, but Chi Ling remained with her eyes closed, her eyelashes trembling slightly. The faint red at the corners of her eyes was slowly receding.
The two people outside were still talking about something, but Ming Tang only felt that the posture she and Chi Ling were maintaining was far too ambiguous.
“The fragrance the show uses in the restroom is quite nice.”
“Isn’t it just mint?”
“Tsk, has your nose gone numb from dancing? There’s clearly an orange scent too.”
Hearing her own pheromones being discussed so openly made Ming Tang feel a sudden embarrassment, like a student caught in a secret romance.
The voices faded as the footsteps grew distant.
Only then did Ming Tang relax her tense shoulders. Realizing she was gripping Chi Ling’s hand too hard, she quickly let go. She was about to say something when she saw Chi Ling shake her head.
“It’s okay.” The physiological craving in Chi Ling’s eyes had been completely soothed away by her comfort, and she had returned to the public perception of her, the cold and aloof one.
Ming Tang’s hand hung at her side, loosely clenched. She tugged at the corner of her mouth, trying to mask her awkwardness.
“How do you feel now? You shouldn’t be uncomfortable anymore, right?”
“Mm, thank you,” Chi Ling said softly. “I’ve troubled you again.”
“No, it’s no trouble.” Ming Tang opened the door and held it for Chi Ling. “Let’s go.”
Ming Tang was somewhat used to Chi Ling’s sudden aloofness. The worst part of differentiating into an Omega or an Alpha was being controlled by intense physiological instincts. No matter how unwilling the individual was, they couldn’t overcome it through willpower alone; a perfectly fine person would be reduced to a soulless shell driven by desire.
To put it plainly, she and Chi Ling were just people who had met today, except they both happened to have something the other needed. Chi Ling’s hot and cold attitude was actually within the realm of reason.
Whether out of embarrassment or some other reason, the two remained silent on the way back.
Upon returning to the Class F classroom, they were surprised to find that the group of people who had been lying around like corpses earlier had already begun training.
Ming Tang was a bit surprised.
However, Qi Deng and Jian Jiahe had been distracted, glancing toward the door. Seeing the two standing there, they approached enthusiastically.
“I knew there was a reason you brought back two cups and then ran out again,” Qi Deng said to Ming Tang with a grin.
“Then I’m even more impressive for guessing you went to pick up Chi Ling.”
“Hello, I’m Jian Jiahe!”
Jian Jiahe’s gaze had already shifted from Ming Tang’s face to Chi Ling. Her excited tone was that of a little fan meeting her idol. Qi Deng quickly introduced herself as well, not wanting to be left behind.
After the episode during the initial stage this morning, both were sensible enough not to reach out to shake Chi Ling’s hand.
Ming Tang felt a sudden, inexplicable surge of irritability. It was more stifling than Chi Ling’s hot and cold behavior.
“Mm, I’m Chi Ling.”
Chi Ling nodded slightly, looking like the usual image of high-altitude ice and snow.
Suddenly, Ming Tang felt much better. To Chi Ling, she was also a special existence. It was just a pity that the only person who had seen Chi Ling take the initiative to shake her hand was Qiao Xiangshu. Ming Tang even felt it was a shame that there was only one witness to such an earth shattering event.
If only there were a recording of that scene, I could re-watch it, Ming Tang thought.
Suddenly struck by an idea, Ming Tang thought of a potential candidate for this function and frantically knocked on the system in her mind.
“521, do you have a recording of Chi Ling shaking my hand this morning?”
【…】
Only silence responded to Ming Tang.
Just as Ming Tang was about to harass it again to see if the system had crashed, the electronic voice spoke up.
【Host, I do not currently have the permission for this.】
【If the Host needs to capture and record interactions with the mission target, you can inform me in advance.】
Meaning the system did have the function to record?
Hearing this, Ming Tang suddenly felt her skin crawl, and a strange discomfort rose within her.
“No need, no need.”
Being monitored by the system and being recorded by the system were two different concepts. Forget it, some memories are enough just staying in one’s mind.
Chi Ling’s arrival caused a significant stir in Class F. Everyone was less restrained than they were when facing a mentor.
Chi Ling naturally found her place at the very front of the training room. Ming Tang’s position, under the encouragement of the two mentors, was semi-fixed in the front row. She stood right behind Chi Ling.
Looking straight ahead, she could see Chi Ling’s back. If she looked past those slender shoulders into the dance mirror, she could clearly see Chi Ling’s front.
Chi Ling’s progress was very fast; she had likely already mastered most of the theme song dance while she was in Class A. While other trainees were forgetting one move after another and having to check the dance recording to jog their memory, Chi Ling could already follow the theme song music and perform the entire dance smoothly.
The best learning subject was right in front of Ming Tang’s eyes, and she didn’t even need to mirror the movements. Following Chi Ling’s figure, Ming Tang felt her own progress was flying.
“This part is wrong.”
Ming Tang’s hand had already moved outward to continue the next sequence when Chi Ling pulled back her hand and spoke.
“Hm?”
Hearing this, Ming Tang looked up at Chi Ling in the mirror. Chi Ling was also looking at her through the mirror. Their gazes collided directly in the reflection.
“Press your wrist down, and keep your elbow level.”
Facing the mirror, Chi Ling demonstrated the movement she had just pointed out as Ming Tang’s error.
Ming Tang returned to the previous move. Comparing herself to Chi Ling in the mirror, she indeed found that her execution didn’t look nearly as good. Following Chi Ling’s tip, Ming Tang lowered her wrist and leveled her elbow, the resulting movement was indeed cleaner and more powerful.
After seeing that Ming Tang’s movement was standard, Chi Ling turned around and looked over her overall form, the corner of her mouth curving into an imperceptible arc.
“Not bad.”
In that tiny, almost unnoticeable hint of a smile, Ming Tang saw Chi Ling’s satisfaction.
Ming Tang returned an even brighter smile. “It’s because Teacher Chi teaches well and hits the mark.”
Hearing this title, Chi Ling couldn’t help but smile more visibly, though the expression was fleeting.
“It really does feel different!” a trainee who had been watching since Chi Ling spoke up exclaimed in surprise.
“I get it now! Is this the legendary ‘Ultimate Dance Root’?”
“Chi Ling, could you help me take a look too?”
Although the idea of Chi Ling being a Class F teaching assistant was Chi Ling’s own suggestion, no one had dared to directly ask her for help at first. That hesitation was broken once Chi Ling took the initiative to point out Ming Tang’s mistake.
Requests for help began to rise throughout Class F. Ming Tang felt the wave of voices crashing down like a landslide. How could Chi Ling stand it?
Chi Ling, however, began to weave through the crowd, moving back and forth like a busy butterfly. But she wouldn’t touch anyone, if something could be explained in one sentence, she absolutely wouldn’t use a second.
“Hey, roommate, do you think Chi Ling has a germaphobia?”
