- Chapter 20 - Pheromones That Won’t Stop
Dawn broke with a pale, hazy light that filtered through layers of grey-white gauze curtains, illuminating a corner of the room.
The room was an absolute wreck. Shreds of clothing in various shades were scattered in every corner, and the double bed that had originally been against the wall had somehow shifted, now sitting askew in the middle of the guest room. Near the foot of the bed, a uniquely styled, high-quality black bite guard caught the morning light, gleaming with a faint metallic luster.
THUD—
The sound of something heavy hitting the floor shattered the brief silence.
The Alpha who had tumbled from the head of the bed immediately arched his back and scrambled up. Covered in a dense, crisscrossing network of bruises and marks, he limped away, listless and weak, trying to distance himself from the culprit on the bed who had subjected him to such devastation. At his ankle, the bell that had yet to be removed swayed with his movements, letting out a few rhythmic, tinkling sounds.
For five consecutive days, day and night without pause, he had endured a hysterical, frenzied demand for possession all without receiving a single drop of effective pheromone soothing. Even an Alpha in a Rut, whose reason was entirely dominated by physiological instinct, had no choice but to surrender and feel a sense of dread in this endless confrontation.
However, his attempt to escape was cruelly blocked.
A hand covered in bite marks reached out from the bed, firmly grasping the other end of the black chain. The moment the chain pulled taut, it was yanked back with violent force. At the other end, the Alpha, who hadn’t even managed a few steps, felt the pull on his shackled right leg. He lost his balance instantly.
With a heavy crash, he fell solidly back onto the floor.
Before he could climb up again, a sudden weight pressed onto his back. A hot, scalding breath followed, hitting the side of his neck with alternating intensity. No matter how he struggled or dodged, the presence was like an attachment following him like a shadow, with nowhere to hide.
Gao Chang shuddered, crawling weakly toward the door. “Fuck… I give up… let… go of me.”
In the first day or two, he could still muster the legendary energy of an Alpha to trade blows with the other. Now, his physical strength was completely depleted. Forget an indiscriminate attack he couldn’t even shake off the burden pressing down on him. He had to admit, Xing Xiyan’s “soothing” had achieved an unexpected effect. But the process was far too brutal and primitive. The gap between this and his envisioned “soothing” was simply too wide.
“As long as the Rut hasn’t ended, Senior cannot leave this place by a single step.”
Xing Xiyan lowered his eyes, his fingertips sliding over the Alpha’s mangled nape. He unceremoniously rejected the unilateral decision to surrender. After several days of “baptism,” that area was no longer fair and smooth; the skin around the glands was covered in a mess of bruises and bite marks.
It looked exceptionally swollen, mangled, and enticing.
The tip of his tongue flicked over his slightly itching fangs. Unable to suppress the strengthening desire for possession, he leaned down and sucked on a tooth mark left the night before, branding the mark even deeper.
“Ugh… don’t bite…”
The familiar pain exploded from his nape, causing Gao Chang’s pupils to lose focus and his limbs to tremble. He panted heavily, grabbing the youth’s hair and trying to pull him away. “Even if there are two days left… I’m… fine now… don’t need to…”
He desperately wanted to say that he had regained consciousness, that the fever in his body was under control, and there was no need to keep doing that to him. Unfortunately, the other had only temporarily released his glands, but gave him no time to catch his breath.
More and more sweat broke out from his forehead, flowing past his brows and lashes, seeping into his eyes and mingling with the moisture swirling in his pupils. It completely blurred his vision. Gao Chang’s lashes fluttered; uncontrollable physiological tears spilled from his reddened eyes, mixing with the hot sweat on his cheeks. Like endless rain dripping from a leaf, they fell steadily, creating wet patches of varying sizes on the polished floor.
Xing Xiyan turned the man’s sweat-soaked face toward him. With a slight bend of his knuckles, he easily pried open those swollen, full lips and explored the Alpha’s mouth, slowly scraping his finger against the unusually sharp canine teeth.
“The first time… Senior said his body had recovered. I believed him and took off the bite guard. As a result, Senior bit my hand and almost turned me into his ‘Omega’.” The youth’s breath was scorching, his voice low and raspy. “The second time, Senior said his consciousness was clear. I believed him and unlocked the shackles. Afterward, Senior attacked me, grabbed my throat, and almost choked me to death.”
“Senior… tell me. Should I believe you?”
“This time is real, I’m not lying… not tricking you.” Gao Chang grabbed the hand that was wreaking havoc in his mouth and swallowed the saliva constantly welling up, his eyes full of pleading.
In his heart, however, he was secretly deciding that the next time he went through a Rut, he would hide far away and never let Xing Xiyan find out.
Unfortunately, his plan failed once again. As if seeing right through his thoughts, the limbs cinching him didn’t loosen a fraction despite his solemn guarantee; they remained welded to his body.
“I will stay with Senior the whole time. Don’t run away.”
Then, he leaned down and captured the Alpha’s lips, unwilling to let him go as he sought the wet, soft red tongue that flickered occasionally between those opening and closing lips.
The Alpha’s Rut had come strangely, but it wasn’t an accident. Thinking of the moment Gao Chang’s hand was held by Xing Yizhao, and the meaningful expression on Yizhao’s face afterward, Xing Xiyan’s eyes half-closed, and his grip on the Alpha lost all restraint.
A long time passed before the pleas spilling from the man’s mouth came to an abrupt halt. When the movement suddenly stopped, Xing Xiyan snapped back to his senses. Looking at the completely unresponsive Alpha, the youth’s breath hitched. In disbelief, he called out tentatively, “Senior…?”
The man remained motionless. Upon closer inspection, he had actually fainted.
Realizing this, Xing Xiyan’s heart skipped a beat. His chest rose and fell as he let out a low, muffled chuckle. “Even if Senior faints, I won’t stop.”
The youth used one hand to tilt up the face soaked in a red mist, while the other covered the distended curve of the man’s abdomen, his eyes alight with obsessive madness.
It’s over… it’s over… Host… wake up quickly…
What Gao Chang didn’t know was that shortly after he lost consciousness, the long-absent, intermittent mechanical voice echoed deep in his mind once again. The voice nagged and urged, a slight tremor in its tone as if it were extremely anxious about the host’s condition.
Although the voice was significantly more fluent than the previous short bursts of static, it only appeared for a fleeting two minutes. Before Gao Chang could wake up, it had vanished back into the depths of his mind.
