Chapter 51: Divorce – Xu Yinyu Is Kidnapped
“What are you two doing.”
Jiao Lu started scolding, but restrained himself and glared at Xiaoxiao due to Yu Shujin’s presence.
Xiaoxiao’s smiling face stiffened. “General Manager Jiao?”
Yu Shujin bypassed Jiao Lu. Ignoring the dumbfounded expressions of Jiao Lu and Assistant Jiang, she walked nonchalantly to the floor-to-ceiling window and looked down at A-City as if no one else was present.
A trace of surprise flashed in Xu Yinyu’s eyes, but it was quickly covered up. She looked at Jiao Lu without changing her expression. “General Manager Jiao, what is it?”
It was easy to misunderstand a director and an assistant being close; it was often just about work. But if the distance became too close, suggestive thoughts might arise, and that would be hard to explain.
Jiao Lu was so angry that his fingers trembled twice. Assistant Jiang, sensing Jiao Lu’s confusion, immediately brought them back on track. “Director Xu, let me introduce you. This is President Yu Shujin, CEO of Wanyu Group in A-City.
President Yu, this is our new HM branch director, Xu Yinyu.”
Yu Shujin turned around. Her gaze, following Assistant Jiang’s cue, seemed to land on Xu Yinyu only now.
Xiaoxiao quickly moved to stand next to Assistant Jiang. Xu Yinyu slightly stood up, extending her hand first. “It’s an honor to meet you, President Yu.”
Yu Shujin glanced at Xu Yinyu’s outstretched hand but didn’t take it. She merely gave a cold look, her full aura radiating pressure and deterrence.
Assistant Jiang, skilled at reading the room, saw Yu Shujin’s expression darken and spoke up to smooth things over for Xu Yinyu. “President Yu, our General Manager Jiao’s office design offers better viewing. Let me take you to visit it.”
Yu Shujin didn’t respond for a long time.
She neither responded to Xu Yinyu’s handshake nor was she willing to leave the room, holding the tense standoff for a full minute.
Yu Shujin’s silence was unbearable until Xu Yinyu spoke. “Xiaoxiao, please help me distribute this revised document to the team members.”
Xiaoxiao took the document and left immediately.
Yu Shujin’s eyes moved slightly. “Assistant Jiang, no need. The view here is the best for me.”
Jiao Lu’s eyes widened. Assistant Jiang’s gaze shifted from Yu Shujin back to Xu Yinyu.
“General Manager Jiao has another meeting this morning. I’ll trouble Director Xu to host President Yu and Assistant Chi.” Assistant Jiang bowed slightly. After speaking, he pulled Jiao Lu’s shirt.
Jiao Lu reacted, nodding repeatedly, and said warmly, “Yes, yes, President Yu, I apologize.”
Then he immediately reminded Xu Yinyu in a low voice, “Entertain President Yu well.”
Xu Yinyu raised an eyebrow, and before she could fully react, only she and Yu Shujin were left in the office.
The air was filled with Yu Shujin’s hyacinth scent. Xu Yinyu’s nose twitched. She looked at Yu Shujin with a puzzled expression. “Yu Shujin, what do you want to see in my office?”
Yu Shujin’s dark eyes caressed Xu Yinyu’s features. “Naturally, the view from the high altitude.”
Xu Yinyu scoffed. “Is the CEO’s office at Wanyu Group under renovation?”
Yu Shujin looked at her with an unclear expression. “You never pay attention to business news.”
Xu Yinyu smiled faintly. “Yes. So what?”
Yu Shujin naturally couldn’t do anything about it.
It was precisely because Xu Yinyu had this leverage over Yu Shujin that she dared to be so reckless in antagonizing her.
“I came to see you.” Yu Shujin said only this in the end. Only by suppressing all her anger and obsession could she utter a gentle greeting that wasn’t too repulsive.
Xu Yinyu found it amusing. Just moments ago, this person was cold and emotionless, giving her no face in front of outsiders, but now she was acting all cautious.
“I’m fine, President Yu.” Xu Yinyu deliberately emphasized the words ‘President Yu’.
Yu Shujin’s expression changed. “A-Yu!”
“Don’t call me that. Call me by my name.”
“If you really have nothing else, please leave.” Xu Yinyu didn’t care about Yu Shujin’s anxiety. She deliberately used a relaxed tone to poke at a past wound. “After all, I still owe President Yu a sky-high debt. I must work hard to pay it off early.”
Yu Shujin shook her head. “No need, A-Yu. That debt, along with that agreement, I destroyed two years ago. You don’t need to feel pressured by it anymore.”
Xu Yinyu’s pupils contracted.
It was destroyed two years ago. She moved her lips, wanting to say a few words of emotion, but her throat was clogged, as if she had swallowed mucus, and not a single word could come out.
Yu Shujin walked toward Xu Yinyu.
Xu Yinyu subconsciously took a step back. Her eyes turned red as she looked at Yu Shujin, using all her strength to utter three words: “Why?”
“Why?” Yu Shujin first repeated it softly. “Yes, why? Why did I use an unfair debt to trap you? Why did I use forced methods to keep you? And why was I stubbornly insistent on making you feel my pain?
A-Yu, everyone thinks I’m smart, but that’s not true. I’ve always wanted to ask myself why I was so mean to you, yet couldn’t bear to let you go.”
Xu Yinyu’s expression grew calmer. She was unwilling to continue the entanglement with Yu Shujin. “Yu Shujin, I know.”
“And I forgive you. So, please let go, and let yourself go too.”
Xu Yinyu’s words were like ice falling in a cold winter, smashing against Yu Shujin’s heart. She stared at Xu Yinyu’s thin lips. Her breathing became shaky, and her inner anxiety reached its peak. She looked at Xu Yinyu’s clear, amber eyes, feeling heart-wrenching pain.
“Do you know what you are saying, Xu Yinyu?”
“I know.” Xu Yinyu tried hard to compose her emotions. In truth, viewing all this a bit lighter might make it less painful than she imagined.
She walked to the tea table and poured Yu Shujin a cup of warm water.
Yu Shujin took the cup. Her hands trembled involuntarily. Her heart, with this cup of warm water, ignited a sliver of hope again.
“Yu Shujin, I’ve always been glad that the person I met was you, exactly you, luckily you. I don’t regret these two years we spent together, before and after. I am very grateful for everything you brought me, good things, bad things, happy things, sad things. I thank you for taking in my mother and me when I was at the end of my rope, and for giving me a path to live.”
Xu Yinyu spoke slowly, her voice like moonlight flowing in the night, her eyes fixed on Yu Shujin.
Even after ten years, every time Xu Yinyu looked up at Yu Shujin’s face, her heart would still be moved.
Xu Yinyu had seen many dazzling moments of Yu Shujin: the captivating and moving Yu Shujin on stage, the authoritative and commanding Yu Shujin in business negotiations, and the incredibly secure Yu Shujin in times of danger.
Xu Yinyu hadn’t missed a single one of her handsome and dazzling moments.
Likewise, Xu Yinyu seemed to have been present for every moment of her vulnerability.
Xu Yinyu cupped Yu Shujin’s cold, pale face. “Let’s get divorced, Yu Shujin.”
Yu Shujin stretched out a stiff hand. She grabbed Xu Yinyu’s wrist and buried her face in Xu Yinyu’s shoulder. “Is it because of the girl just now? Is it because of her? Have you fallen for her? She’s just a little young, A-Yu. I can accept open relationships. Can we just not divorce?”
Her voice became softer and softer toward the end, yet clearer and clearer, filled with suppressed grief. Just listening to it would make one sad.
But in Xu Yinyu’s expectation, love should be something that makes a person better. Yu Shujin, however, seemed to have sunk into a swamp, becoming a completely different person: paranoid, cold, sinister, and frightening.
Even her inherent arrogance had been battered by the complicated emotions between them, turning her into an ordinary person who would be vulnerable, humble, and willing to compromise.
“No, that’s not it. It’s that I don’t want to continue,” Xu Yinyu interrupted. “Yu Shujin, we have both grown up. I want to enter a new phase of life.”
Yu Shujin closed her eyes, but tears streamed down her temples. She forced a strained smile. “A new phase of life? A new phase of life!”
Yu Shujin abruptly pushed Xu Yinyu away, glaring at her angrily. “I won’t divorce! The marriage law stipulates that if one person expresses strong refusal, the application will not be approved.”
Xu Yinyu wiped away Yu Shujin’s tear traces with her thumb. “It’s okay. I can wait.”
For the first time, Yu Shujin heard a chillingly resolute meaning in a person’s gentle voice.
She swatted Xu Yinyu’s hand away, harshly wiped her own tears, and managed a smile uglier than a cry. “Fine, I agree. We’ll divorce.”
After saying that, Yu Shujin pulled open the office door and resolutely walked out.
Xu Yinyu watched her retreating figure, her mind shaken, but she quickly immersed herself back into her new work.
After that day ended, General Manager Jiao came to Xu Yinyu’s office with a displeased look to gauge her intentions, asking anxiously, “Have you and President Yu met before?”
Xu Yinyu admitted, “We have.”
Jiao Lu immediately grew nervous. “Where?”
“School. We were high school classmates,” Xu Yinyu said.
Jiao Lu sighed in relief. “Since you are classmates, why don’t you take some time to handle the handover of our company’s project with President Yu?”
“General Manager Jiao,” Xu Yinyu said seriously. “I am a special appointee from the headquarters responsible for the Q2 project promotion. I am not skilled in project handover work.”
Jiao Lu frowned. “Fine. You’re sent by the headquarters. We can’t afford to use you for that.”
Xu Yinyu ignored Jiao Lu’s comment and continued working on the task at hand.
In private, Xu Yinyu and Yu Shujin took time off to visit the Civil Affairs Bureau. The process of getting the divorce certificate was quite difficult, but the final result was good.
The day Xu Yinyu received the divorce certificate, her project promotion work in China was also nearing its end.
Within just one month of opening her domestic account, Xu Yinyu gradually introduced HM Comics to the domestic market. She also posted several character concept comics she drew in her spare time, which quickly went viral online, especially on Weibo.
Soon, people dug up her previous account and discovered that Xu Yinyu was the “Fengyin” who had previously wrestled with Su Libai.
Now, their status and position were inverted. Su Libai’s past deeds were continuously exposed, and her reputation had collapsed into ruins. Meanwhile, Xu Yinyu appeared as the HM Headquarters Project Promotion Director, associated with a world-class company. The difference was stark, attracting many power-worshipping fans.
Xu Yinyu’s social media account gained fifty thousand followers in just one month.
Although Jiao Lu had many complaints about Xu Yinyu’s personal way of doing things, the moment he saw his company’s revenue soaring, he was no longer angry, even if Xu Yinyu became so arrogant as to ride over his head.
“Director Xu, General Manager Jiao wants to know which day’s flight ticket you’ve booked?” Assistant Jiang asked.
Xu Yinyu looked confused. “Next Wednesday. Why?”
“Oh, he plans to hold a celebration party for you,” Assistant Jiang said frankly. “Tonight, in the private room of the bar furthest east below the company building. Be sure to come, Director Xu.”
Xu Yinyu nodded. She stretched lazily. “Got it.”
She had worked overtime for a month straight, completing the promotion work in double time, and was already preparing her resignation letter.
After tonight, Xu Yinyu would end her career and officially start her new life.
Night fell, covering the usually dangerous blades of the city.
After Xu Yinyu clocked out, the office was empty, so she had to go to the bar alone.
This road was usually lively and noisy, but tonight, for some reason, it was very quiet. She could barely see any pedestrians. The cold wind howled. Xu Yinyu shrank her neck, walking forward with her head down, her eyes half-closed, her face showing exhaustion.
Her eyelid twitched violently twice. Xu Yinyu shivered, her mind gradually clearing. She looked up, observing her surroundings while walking quickly.
“Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap.” She heard steady footsteps behind her.
Xu Yinyu’s heart pounded. She dared not look back. She secretly slipped her phone into her shirt sleeve, wanting to call the police immediately.
But the next moment, Xu Yinyu was covered over her mouth and nose from behind by the person.
Xu Yinyu’s vision blurred. Waves of dizziness violently assaulted her. Finally, she completely lost consciousness.
