Chapter 45: Psychological Electrotherapy – A Scene of Carnage (Shura Field)
Xu Yinyu refused to accept the gift box. “It was just a small favor. Keep it for yourself.”
“But I want to give it to you,” Yu Shujin attempted to push the gift box into Xu Yinyu’s hands.
Xu Yinyu reluctantly took it. Her refusal was obvious in her eyes, but Yu Shujin chose to ignorantly deceive herself.
“President Yu, besides giving me something, is there anything else you came to see me for this time?” Xu Yinyu asked.
Yu Shujin narrowed her eyes. She reached out and touched the wisps of hair scattered across Xu Yinyu’s cheek.
In the past two weeks, Yu Shujin had furiously cleared her schedule, processing all necessary work for the next month in advance. She planned to undergo psychological electrotherapy to recover her missing memories.
This method was undoubtedly the fastest and most effective, but it also carried extreme risks.
When she made her decision, countless people stood up in opposition.
Yet, Yu Shujin only wanted to come to Xu Yinyu’s side. “I came to say goodbye to you.”
Xu Yinyu looked at her, puzzled. A mixed feeling of comfort and disappointment arose in her heart, prompting her to ask further.
“What do you mean?”
“I’m sick and need a minor operation. The surgery has certain risks, and I’m afraid I won’t wake up, so I came to see you before the procedure.” Yu Shujin rested her head on Xu Yinyu’s shoulder. She couldn’t help but lean closer to Xu Yinyu.
It was like a person seeking warmth desperately when they are cold.
Xu Yinyu’s shoulder trembled, and her voice wavered slightly.
“Clatter!”
The gift box fell to the floor.
Xu Yinyu held Yu Shujin’s shoulders with both hands, her expression momentarily agitated and intense. “Where are you sick?”
A stranger facing an acquaintance a few times would not have such a violent surge of emotion.
A hint of light flashed in Yu Shujin’s eyes. “It’s just a slipped disc from exhaustion, a minor surgery.”
Xu Yinyu looked down at Yu Shujin’s waist, recalling how Yu Shujin used to weave through banquets, unable to sit down for long, or how she would sit for half a day while processing documents.
Her fingers gently stroked Yu Shujin’s waist. “President Yu, you must rest well.”
Xu Yinyu’s voice was very soft, like a feather placed on Yu Shujin’s heart, slowly settling and flowing into her flesh and blood.
“I still want to see you.”
Xu Yinyu couldn’t forgive the pain Yu Shujin had inflicted on her, but within that endless pain was a strong thread of care that outsiders couldn’t see.
Xu Yinyu’s youthful love at first sight, and the sweet, innocent ambiguous time with Yu Shujin, had been severely defeated by a distorted reality.
When they reunited in their twenties, facing Yu Shujin’s resentment and their distorted, sadomasochistic dynamic of chasing and fleeing, she felt pain, regret, and finally developed an indescribable hatred.
But along with the doubled hatred was a formerly fragile thread of concern that had also multiplied.
In the past, she cared about her excellent grades, her mother’s praise, and the beautiful Yu Shujin.
Now, approaching thirty, having experienced multiple losses, the only thing she truly cared about was Yu Shujin.
“Okay.” Yu Shujin held her close. She left a kiss on Xu Yinyu’s forehead. She said, “This time, it’s okay if you don’t wait for me.”
Xu Yinyu actively wrapped her arms around Yu Shujin’s neck, stood on her tiptoes, and kissed her lips.
Yu Shujin’s eyes instantly burst with dazzling, colorful light.
Her fingers grasped Xu Yinyu’s waist, instinctively gripping her body and slowly moving upwards.
When Xu Yinyu tried to stop, she found herself firmly held in the warm, familiar embrace by Yu Shujin’s arms.
Their lips were gently licked. Xu Yinyu blinked, slowly returning the kiss, but in an instant, it turned into a fierce and dominating territorial invasion.
Xu Yinyu’s face flushed. It had been a long time since she had experienced such a savage kiss.
Her body was completely awakened at that moment. She could only cling tightly to Yu Shujin’s neck to prevent herself from falling.
Their intense panting sounds intertwined between them.
Yu Shujin moved her lips away and kissed her eye socket.
“A-Yu, goodbye.” Yu Shujin gently picked up the gift box again, dusted it off, and placed it in Xu Yinyu’s palm.
Xu Yinyu leaned on the living room sofa, her fingers clutching the gift box slightly white. She didn’t look up until the sound of Yu Shujin closing the door echoed.
She took the gift box and walked alone to the art room.
The paintings hung in the room were all various images of Yu Shujin.
Yu Shujin at seventeen in her blue and white school uniform, resting her arms, looking sideways.
The first time she stepped onto the stage, the stunningly beautiful Yu Shujin, in a white gown, holding a blue diamond microphone, looking gorgeous and vibrant.
And her soaring figures, time and again dominating the film and television industry.
Xu Yinyu’s last brushstroke was before Yu Shujin’s engagement.
She had actually prepared a gift for Yu Shujin:
A thick sketchpad containing various images of Yu Shujin through Xu Yinyu’s eyes.
The way she smiled when she was happy, the way she was prickly and critical when angry, and the way she endured pain when sad. So many images, yet they were all torn up by that engagement invitation and thrown into the trash can.
In more than ten years of ups and downs, the only things she had managed to preserve were these memories.
Xu Yinyu placed the gift box in the art room and returned to the master bedroom to continue working.
“What have you decided?” Marlene picked up her coffee cup and took a sip.
Xu Yinyu glanced at her, feeling restless. “Teacher Marlene, honestly, right now I just want to complete the second-quarter project well.”
Teacher Marlene nodded, raising an eyebrow slightly. “The prospects of HM Company are indeed good, but Xu, work is the chief culprit that consumes the soul. The sooner you escape from work, the sooner your soul can be free, and your inspiration can surge forth.”
Xu Yinyu’s heart trembled slightly.
Without work, without income, freedom was like the moon in the sky, easily shattered with a poke.
Xu Yinyu pursed her lips. “Teacher Marlene, I understand your good intentions, but I am not the genius you imagine. I’m afraid of disappointing you.”
Marlene’s eyes were deep. She paused for a moment but quickly composed her expression. “Xu, please believe in yourself.”
“I won’t misjudge a person. Please believe in yourself as much as you admire me.”
Marlene pointed to Xu Yinyu’s head. “I believe there is great power in here; it just needs a time to erupt.”
Xu Yinyu’s eyes felt sore. She lowered her head and pursed her lips, her expression blank and hesitant.
Xu Yinyu suddenly looked up, her eyes full of disbelief.
Marlene raised her hand, interrupting Xu Yinyu. “Although I am not yet forty, my inspiration has already been lost. There will be no more creativity. But you are different; you are still an uncarved jade stone. I want to invite you, and I also want you to accompany me to complete the final part of my painting journey.”
Xu Yinyu took a breath. She focused her eyes, meeting Marlene’s sincere gaze, and finally yielded. “I will resign from the company after completing the second-quarter project.”
“Teacher Marlene, please guide me in the future.”
Marlene smiled happily. “Xu, you have just made a great decision.”
Xu Yinyu was also infected by the joy radiating from Marlene. “Teacher Marlene, the honor is mine.”
After seeing Teacher Marlene off, Xu Yinyu turned around, as if sensing something, and found Victoria and the doctor in the corner.
Victoria walked over. “Was that Teacher Marlene?”
If they were in the same circle, it was impossible not to recognize Marlene.
Xu Yinyu nodded without concealment. “Yes.”
Victoria’s eyes were shocked. “That was Marlene! Ahhh!”
Many people were drawn by Victoria’s volume and looked their way, their eyes conveying disapproval of the rude behavior.
Xu Yinyu quickly covered Victoria’s mouth. “This is a coffee shop. Let’s go outside to talk.”
Victoria frantically grabbed Xu Yinyu’s hand. “Honestly confess! How do you know Teacher Marlene?”
The doctor fanned the flames nearby. “Yes, how did you two get entangled?”
“Where are your minds going?” Xu Yinyu pulled her hand away, patted Victoria’s shoulder, and pushed her out of the coffee shop. “I was asking Teacher Marlene for advice on some issues I’ve been encountering at work lately.”
Victoria’s face crumpled. “I really want to meet Teacher Marlene too. Xu, tell me, what if I could also accidentally run into Teacher Marlene one day?”
Xu Yinyu told her the truth.
After hearing it, Victoria excitedly pulled her, wanting to see her work, but Xu Yinyu rubbed her forehead and refused.
“Victoria, I’ll treat you to dinner. Please let me off the hook.”
Since starting work, painting felt like being on the clock.
Moreover, painting on a day off was equivalent to working on the weekend.
Victoria pestered her a few times, and when Xu Yinyu repeatedly refused, she sulked nearby, unhappy. “It’s my birthday tomorrow. Can’t you at least give me a painting?”
Xu Yinyu was amused by Victoria’s crumpled face and subconsciously rubbed the top of Victoria’s head.
The fluffy hair felt good to the touch.
Before she could withdraw her hand, Victoria reached out and grabbed it, suddenly placing her cheek against Xu Yinyu’s hand.
Xu Yinyu lowered her head and smiled, teasingly. “Victoria, you are a beautiful ragdoll cat.”
The doctor nodded in agreement nearby. “Victoria, I want to go to your place today.”
Victoria buried her face in Xu Yinyu’s palm.
Her eyes, deep and profound, looked at a woman in the distance, her eyes slightly raised, with a look of provocation.
After teasing her, Xu Yinyu wanted to withdraw her hand. “Alright, I promise you. Let go.”
But Victoria pushed her luck. “Then can you give me an advance reward of a hug?”
Before Xu Yinyu could decide, Victoria abruptly embraced her. Xu Yinyu thought this hug would be a familiar, close gesture like usual.
She first stroked the back of Victoria’s head, then patted her waist reassuringly. “Okay, let go now.”
Victoria quickly left a kiss on Xu Yinyu’s cheek.
It was so fast that Xu Yinyu didn’t even have time to react, and the doctor didn’t manage to stop her either.
Xu Yinyu coughed. “Victoria, don’t mess around.”
Xu Yinyu stepped back, only to accidentally bump into someone behind her.
The breathing was ragged and extremely familiar.
Xu Yinyu subconsciously turned her head to look, only to be held tightly around the waist by the person behind her. The force was great.
Xu Yinyu’s waist felt locked in an iron grip. Her body felt frozen in place, rigid.
