Chapter 19: Exposing – Before Being Wall-Papered (Part 2)
Yu Shujin barely rested for two days before an urgent phone call summoned her to Country S. She only took one suitcase when she left.
Taking advantage of Yu Shujin’s absence, Xu Yinyu went to the hospital to accompany her mother immediately after work and inquire about her mother’s condition with Dr. Xu.
One morning, Xu Yinyu’s right eyelid twitched violently, and an ominous feeling rose in her heart.
Sure enough, when she left work, Xu Yinyu was led by the driver to an unfamiliar, expensive sedan.
Xu Yinyu frowned and asked Master Li, “Did you switch cars today?”
Master Li nodded guiltily and proactively opened the back car door. “Yes, Miss Xu. Please get in first.”
After Xu Yinyu got in, her clear eyes instantly darkened, and her aura changed immediately, displaying a sense of cold rejection without any attempt to hide it.
The Yu family matriarch glanced at her. Adorned with jewelry, her demeanor was graceful and noble. “Let’s go, Xiao Li. Back to the main residence.”
Xu Yinyu seized the moment before the car door closed. Without delay, she tried to get out but was forced back into the car by two bodyguards beside the vehicle.
Xu Yinyu’s body leaned out the car door, but her feet couldn’t reach the ground, and her hands gripped the car for support, making her entire body uncomfortable.
She was forced to sit down.
“Sit down,” Yu Zhenmin commanded.
Xu Yinyu reluctantly complied.
The journey inside the car was silent. The Yu family’s old residence was built in a classical style, adorned with rare paintings placed in the guest rooms. Xu Yinyu followed behind Yu Zhenmin.
Yu Zhenmin, holding a cane decorated with jade green jewels, slowly sat on the soft sofa. She scrutinized Xu Yinyu and went straight to the point.
“Girl, you’re clinging to Shujin again. Have you forgotten your promise to me?”
How could Xu Yinyu forget that profoundly humiliating incident?
She glared. “Chairman Yu, you’re so busy, yet you managed to specifically choose a day when Yu Shujin is away to interrogate me. It must be difficult for an elderly person like you.”
“Your tongue is much bolder now,” Yu Zhenmin curled her lips. She looked around fifty, wearing a light-colored woolen cardigan. Her demeanor wasn’t severe or cold, but it exerted immense pressure.
It was perfectly normal for Xu Yinyu to be intimidated by someone like her when she was seventeen.
“Yes. That’s how you cleverly tricked me into signing the agreement and drove me out of my hometown.”
She missed her chance at the university entrance exam. Her mother was dragged down by the heavy pressure of life, her body worn out. Their originally bright future was completely shattered, sinking into the mud and stagnating.
No one had the right to blame her for what happened back then; the only person Xu Yinyu owed was Yu Shujin.
Her tone was firm. “Let me guess why you’ve come to see me this time. How do you intend to make me roll out of A City?”
“Such a temper,” Yu Zhenmin raised an eyebrow. “Girl, there’s no need for you to use these words to provoke me. Because whether you say them or not, your outcome was determined from the very beginning.”
“In A City, crushing you is as easy as crushing an ant.”
“Why bother offending me unnecessarily, and why cling to Yu Shujin, of all people? There are so many young, beautiful faces in A City.”
“I will give you a sum of money you couldn’t earn in a lifetime. Take the money, go far away, and we can part ways amicably.”
Xu Yinyu sneered. “Does Yu Shujin know?”
Yu Zhenmin frowned. She hadn’t expected Xu Yinyu to become so difficult to deal with. “Yu Shujin doesn’t need to worry about such trivial matters.”
“Ultimately, her clinging to you now is nothing more than the lingering feelings from her youthful infatuation and the resentment of being torn apart.
Yu Shujin has matured very quickly. Sometimes even I can’t see through her.”
“She is no longer the innocent girl you used to protect. This much should be very clear to you.”
Yu Zhenmin was always skilled at psychological warfare. “While she still has some residual affection for you, take the money I give you and go somewhere beautiful. Isn’t that more important than a detached Yu Shujin?”
For someone who had struggled for nearly ten years just to survive, this was the most coveted treasure.
No one would dislike winning the lottery.
But this lottery ticket was offered by Yu Zhenmin.
Xu Yinyu hesitated.
She knew she couldn’t outsmart the deeply cunning Yu Zhenmin. Instead of getting tangled up in a risky negotiation, it was better to simply refuse.
“I refuse,” Xu Yinyu said. “You don’t need to look at me like that. I’m not refusing you because of Yu Shujin, but because your trustworthiness has been completely exhausted with me.”
“I will not cooperate with someone I fundamentally do not trust again.”
Xu Yinyu firmly refused her, her eyes resolute, and then stood up and left the place.
Yu Zhenmin curved an extremely faint smile. She slowly stroked the jade hairpin in her hair, and the anger in her chest gradually subsided.
Her tone became undisguised, revealing its original coldness and contempt. “Truly courting death.”
A week passed quickly, and it was the day Xu Yinyu was supposed to treat Qi Wei to dinner. Xu Yinyu had also received a 200,000 yuan bonus and a 10,000 yuan salary. She felt dazed and overjoyed, like her head had been struck by the small fortune in her hands and heart.
“Qi Wei, where do you want to eat?” Xu Yinyu asked with a smile.
“Wait for me after work, and we can take my car. I’m familiar with the area, so I’ll drive you directly there,” Qi Wei smiled faintly.
“No need. I’ll have the driver follow your car,” Xu Yinyu refused.
“Don’t you think it’s costly and troublesome to call your driver? Come on, after dinner, I’ll personally drive you home. How about that?” Qi Wei patted Xu Yinyu’s shoulder.
Before Xu Yinyu could voice her refusal, Qi Wei walked away with her file folder.
Xu Yinyu rubbed her forehead. Subconsciously, she felt that if Yu Shujin knew she rode in Qi Wei’s car, she would definitely be angry and furious.
But after a moment of hesitation, she reasoned that Yu Shujin was abroad now. How could she possibly find out?
So, she actually followed Qi Wei’s suggestion and got into Qi Wei’s sedan.
Xu Yinyu sat next to Qi Wei. Suddenly, Qi Wei leaned over her.
Their faces were very close, close enough to breathe each other’s air.
Xu Yinyu was startled.
A flash of light passed by.
Qi Wei, however, calmly helped Xu Yinyu fasten her seatbelt.
“What’s wrong?” Qi Wei feigned an innocent look, gazing at the startled Xu Yinyu.
Xu Yinyu frowned instinctively. “Just remind me, I can do it myself.”
Qi Wei chuckled. “We’re both women. What are you thinking?”
Xu Yinyu’s pupils slightly dilated.
Right, why be cautious between women? It’s not like everyone is gay.
She had definitely spent too much time with Yu Shujin recently, making her see everyone as gay, to the point where she was shocked and startled when a colleague simply helped her with her seatbelt.
“Oh, I’m just not used to people being so close to me. I didn’t mean to imply any dislike,” Xu Yinyu explained.
Qi Wei didn’t bother to argue against her thinly veiled rejection.
The car fell silent. Xu Yinyu fiddled with her phone, paying attention to the news about Yu Shujin on Star Blog.
She was so engrossed that she didn’t realize Qi Wei’s car had entered a residential area with beautiful surroundings, still assuming Qi Wei had found a unique, secluded restaurant.
Only when the car stopped in the parking area did Xu Yinyu belatedly realize. “Your home isn’t nearby, is it?”
Qi Wei nodded. “Yes. I wanted to invite you to cook a meal for me.”
“I want to try Yinyu’s cooking.”
Xu Yinyu’s face darkened. “Qi Wei, I don’t cook. How about I treat you to milk tea tomorrow?”
Qi Wei put her arm around Xu Yinyu’s shoulder. “I’ll help you out! If you’re treating me to dinner, at least show some sincerity, right? Come on, I’m not a bad person. You don’t need to be so wary.”
Xu Yinyu struggled to push Qi Wei away. “It’s getting dark. I need to go home. Another time.”
Qi Wei suddenly hugged Xu Yinyu tightly. “Yinyu, do you really not see my feelings for you?”
Xu Yinyu was dumbfounded.
This jerk! She just reassured me to relax, and now she wants me to know her feelings!
“Are you crazy? I have a girlfriend. Don’t be so absurd!” Xu Yinyu desperately tried to pry Qi Wei’s hands off. “Let go of me! Someone will see if they come here!”
“Are you and the Movie Queen Yu truly in a relationship?”
A thunderclap exploded near Xu Yinyu’s ear. She even forgot to resist.
Xu Yinyu’s body froze for a moment but quickly recovered and retorted.
“What nonsense are you talking about? My girlfriend is just a regular employee. What Movie Queen Yu? I’ve never even met her.”
“Why are you so flustered? I didn’t say you were in a relationship yet,” Qi Wei released Xu Yinyu, opened her phone gallery, and showed her a photo. “It’s just that in this photo of you and your girlfriend standing together, from this angle, your girlfriend looks so much like Yu Shujin.”
Her tone was flirtatious, carrying the seductive allure of a mermaid’s song in the sea at night.
“Your girlfriend is Yu Shujin.”
The two were only walking side-by-side, without overly intimate actions. An innocent person wouldn’t find anything wrong with the picture.
But the problem was, they weren’t innocent, nor were they clean. If this were posted online, meticulous netizens following the clues would inevitably bring huge negative impact to Yu Shujin.
Xu Yinyu glared at Qi Wei with cold eyes. Her expression froze for a moment, then she suddenly laughed, her demeanor changing extremely quickly. “Let’s go, Qi Wei. I’ll buy you dinner.”
“Alright, Yinyu,” Qi Wei happily held Xu Yinyu’s wrist. “I’ll show you around my home.”
She paused.
“Maybe it will be our home in the future.”
Qi Wei’s cheeks were slightly flushed, appearing shy like an innocent girl confessing to her beloved.
But to Xu Yinyu, these words were full of disguise and calculation.
She mentally rolled her eyes in disgust.
Xu Yinyu shook off Qi Wei’s hand. Her gentle face was now cold, radiating an icy aura from the inside out.
This only made the other person want to pluck this exquisite fruit even more.
Qi Wei’s mouth curved into a meaningful smile. She showed no signs of anger. Instead, she more proactively linked arms with Xu Yinyu. “You’re walking too fast, Yinyu.”
Xu Yinyu was fed up and spoke directly. “Let go.”
“We used to interact like this, Yinyu. You can’t avoid me just because I like you. That’s not fair.”
Xu Yinyu slapped her hand away, her eyes showing fierceness. “Qi Wei, do you think I have a soft temper and am easy to bully? I’m warning you, we are just colleagues. Don’t get worked up over me.”
Qi Wei was even more attracted to this side of Xu Yinyu, which was so different from her usual self.
