Chapter 18: Ambiguity – Before Being Wall-Papered (Part 1)
Xu Yinyu returned to the company after her leave and found new comic work on her desk.
She picked it up and saw that it was just an outline framework. The detailed plot points were completely blank, only providing the most basic narrative trajectory and character designs.
“You’re finally back.” Qi Wei leaned against her shoulder, her eyes bright with joy. “How is your girlfriend’s recovery?”
Xu Yinyu, holding the file folder, instinctively frowned. She was unaccustomed to others’ close proximity and unfamiliar scents, consciously increasing the distance between them. “Much better.”
“Then you need to prepare yourself mentally to spend this period submerged in an ocean of work,” Qi Wei slowly took the file folder from Xu Yinyu’s hand.
Like a rising sun.
Xu Yinyu smiled faintly. “Alright. Hurry and tell me what this project is about.”
“I said that requires a consultation fee,” Qi Wei placed her hand back on Xu Yinyu’s shoulder. They were extremely close, their ears almost touching.
Xu Yinyu hadn’t realized that the distance between her and Qi Wei had already exceeded the safe line. She was entirely enveloped in Qi Wei’s shadow and was still smiling as she said, “Then I’ll treat you to a big meal when my salary and bonus come next week.”
“Oh, that’s too kind,” Qi Wei lightly inhaled the scent of the other person. Her expression was completely natural, showing no sign of embarrassment. “Which restaurant do you plan to take me to, then?”
Xu Yinyu was stumped. She hadn’t eaten outside the company before. She ate the company lunch at noon, and in the afternoon, she needed to return to Yu Shujin’s villa for dinner.
She hadn’t even visited the milk tea shop next to the company.
Naturally, she didn’t know which restaurant around the company was better.
Every day, her life followed a straight line: either the company or Yu Shujin’s villa.
Xu Yinyu slowly realized that, except for the work in her hands, she habitually entrusted everything else to Yu Shujin. She had naturally locked away her own free time, even without Yu Shujin forcing her to.
“What’s wrong?” Qi Wei lightly tapped Xu Yinyu’s cheek with the file folder, leaning in close, her eyes full of desire. “Haven’t decided yet? Then can I choose?”
Xu Yinyu’s head felt hot, and she nodded. She glanced toward Team Leader Yang’s office, shrinking her head slightly. “Okay, I promise. Now tell me quickly.”
Qi Wei used her lower teeth to push her tongue piercing, looking at Xu Yinyu’s withdrawn head and the pair of fair ears exposed. She ground her teeth for a moment, but finally met those clear, bottomless amber eyes. She could only withdraw the dark thoughts suppressed in her heart, compose her expression, and began to explain the work content and division of labor to Xu Yinyu.
“This is a custom comic. The client only gave one requirement: it must be visually appealing and exciting. But the fewer requirements they give, the heavier our workload actually becomes.”
“I’m responsible for filling in the plot for this comic, and you’re responsible for the supervision and coloring. You’ll only be free this week. Once Sister Qingyu and I finish the plot development and character creation, it will be your turn.”
Xu Yinyu calmly accepted the huge challenge and commented quietly, “Sounds alright.”
Qi Wei’s back, which was bent by desire, ached now. Hearing Xu Yinyu’s indifferent assessment, she gritted her teeth for a while before finally leaving Xu Yinyu’s workstation.
Xu Yinyu took out a deep sea, dazzling blue thermos covered in glittering stars from her canvas bag.
She drank a sip of warm water. Today, it contained refreshing tea leaves that she had specifically asked Auntie Fang about.
After drinking, she felt full of energy. She remained focused throughout the day, not getting distracted except for eating and using the restroom, completely immersing herself in her work.
“Let’s go, little Yu Yu,” Qi Wei’s tone was flippant; she constantly changed the names she called Xu Yinyu.
Xu Yinyu shut down her computer and said, “Almost,” putting the thermos back into her canvas bag. She quickly walked over to Qi Wei.
“How many more days until you finish the plot?” Xu Yinyu asked.
“The major plot points are set, but we still need to polish the plot details. After polishing, we need to discuss it with the client. A week at the fastest,” Qi Wei said, chewing on a lollipop, her eyes slightly bruised from lack of sleep.
“Oh, you’ve worked hard.”
“That’s so perfunctory,” Qi Wei raised an eyebrow and tutted.
“Oh, then keep up the good work. I see the driver, I’m leaving. See you tomorrow.” Xu Yinyu’s tone was flat. She looked downstairs, saw the familiar license plate, and started walking quickly toward it.
“Little Yu Yu,” Qi Wei suddenly called out, grabbing Xu Yinyu’s hand.
Xu Yinyu was caught off guard and stumbled. She was pulled into Qi Wei’s arms, her head still dazed. “What is it?”
“Just a reminder: next Friday, you’re treating me to dinner,” Qi Wei’s lips were close to Xu Yinyu’s earlobe.
Xu Yinyu fluttered her eyelids, nodding silently. “I won’t forget. I need to go back.”
Qi Wei released Xu Yinyu’s wrist abruptly, continuously rubbing her fingers together. She watched Xu Yinyu’s departing back, which held no hesitation, and then looked deeply at the car waiting behind her.
She ignored the camera flash that briefly went off.
A meaningful smile curved on her lips.
“So innocent.”
“Do you finish work this late every day?” Yu Shujin looked at Xu Yinyu with a resentful expression.
Xu Yinyu had finished washing up early and climbed into bed. Hearing Yu Shujin’s faint question, she desperately racked her brain and managed to squeeze out, “I chatted with a colleague for a bit today, so it was a little late.”
“Which colleague? Is it that woman covered in piercings?” Yu Shujin’s tone sounded calm.
Xu Yinyu’s eyes darted around. “No, it was another colleague.”
“Then why are you so nervous?” Yu Shujin’s voice was very soft, yet carried intense pressure. “Didn’t I tell you that you always look up when you lie?”
Xu Yinyu covered her eyes with both hands. “Fine, it was her. I just exchanged a couple of words with her and asked about the progress of the new project.”
Yu Shujin pulled her hands away. “I don’t like you being close to her, especially coming back smelling of her perfume. It stinks.”
Xu Yinyu didn’t smell any unfamiliar scent on herself at all. She only felt that Yu Shujin was overly sensitive and suspicious.
“I can’t just talk to whoever you like, can I? I think she’s very enthusiastic, and I feel comfortable interacting with her. She didn’t make me uneasy, and we certainly didn’t cross any boundaries. So just leave it alone.”
She disliked Yu Shujin overly projecting her feelings onto her.
“What are you trying to say?” Yu Shujin was very displeased with Xu Yinyu’s attitude. “I arranged this job for you to keep you away from bad influences. Was I wrong?”
Xu Yinyu remained silent, turning onto her side to pretend to sleep, unwilling to engage with Yu Shujin’s unpleasant words.
Yu Shujin was so angry she felt like spitting blood. She tried hard to calm down before swallowing her anger. A deep gloom flashed in her eyes. She pinned the person pretending to sleep beneath her, moving from her tightly closed eyes down to the small mole on her collarbone…
Her icy cold fingers slowly lifted Xu Yinyu’s shirt at the chest.
Xu Yinyu’s scalp tingled, and she opened her eyes. She grabbed Yu Shujin’s hand as it moved downwards. Meeting her dark, intense gaze, she felt a chill deep down but endured it and said, “You’ve scolded me, and you’ve hit me. You’re still injured, so stop moving around.”
Upon hearing this, Yu Shujin’s eyebrows rose, and desire flared in her lower body.
Xu Yinyu was startled by the sudden bite. Before she knew it, Yu Shujin was sitting on her waist. Her eyes widened. “What are you doing?”
Yu Shujin leisurely wiped the blood from her lips with her finger. Her gaze was insistent and serious as she spoke, word by word, “I’m going to mark you as mine. So when others see you, they’ll know that you belong to me.”
Xu Yinyu didn’t even have time to process Yu Shujin’s words before she was abruptly stripped naked.
As a result, when Xu Yinyu went to the company the next day, she only managed to clock in right on time.
“You’re a bit late today, Xiao Xu.” Yang Qingyu appeared behind Xu Yinyu, a smile on her face, accompanied by large dark circles under her eyes.
“There was some traffic today. I’ll be earlier next time, Team Leader,” Xu Yinyu replied dispiritedly.
“That’s not what I meant,” Yang Qingyu smiled. “Our department’s salary isn’t based on clocking in. As long as you complete your daily work, you don’t need to strictly conform to company regulations. I just noticed that you are the only one who comes early and leaves late every day, so I came over to explain.”
Xu Yinyu recalled Yu Shujin’s warning in her ear yesterday: “If you come back this late again, don’t even think about leaving the house.”
She nodded to Yang Qingyu. “I see. Thank you, Team Leader Yang. I appreciate it.”
After Yang Qingyu walked away, Qi Wei leaned over to Xu Yinyu’s workstation window, tilting her head. “Little Yu Yu, why would she tell you all that? Don’t you find it strange?”
Xu Yinyu carefully remembered Yu Shujin’s warning from yesterday. “I don’t know, and I don’t find it strange. Just call me Xu Yinyu. Don’t call me other confusing things.”
“Hmm, what’s wrong?” Qi Wei feigned confusion. “Didn’t you say I could call you whatever I wanted before?”
She even put on a look of being deeply wronged.
Xu Yinyu widened her eyes belatedly. “I said whatever, but I didn’t tell you to call me such misleading names, did I?”
Qi Wei’s eyes fell on Xu Yinyu’s wrist.
The small exposed section of her fair, slender, and sexy wrist bore two rows of distinct teeth marks, as if deliberately carved as a brand.
A mark signaling possession.
Xu Yinyu immediately pulled her shirt cuff down, seemingly feeling the gaze.
“Alright, Yinyu.” Qi Wei lowered her head, her short hair revealing her neck.
The choker she wore around her neck trembled slightly with her movement, making her look sexy and enticing.
Xu Yinyu quickly glanced at it, silently admiring once again that Qi Wei’s upper body proportions were absolutely stunning.
Round forehead, narrow face, pointy chin, slender neck, wide shoulders, and a thin waist. With a bit of makeup, she looked like a character straight out of an animation model.
Especially with all those piercings, her personal style was intense, giving her a unique and ambiguous feeling.
