After Being Reborn, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessed - Chapter 90
An Yu tilted her head and looked at the door beside her. After hesitating for a few seconds, she knocked on Lin Duxi’s door. Just as her hand dropped, she regretted it.
At this time, Lin Duxi should already be asleep. It wouldn’t be good to wake her, so maybe it was better to wait until the next day to tell her.
While thinking this, An Yu figured that her knock probably wasn’t too loud, so she turned to leave.
The next second, there was a click—the door opened.
Lin Duxi wore a silk camisole nightdress. Her fair skin glowed under the hallway lights, and the hem of her nightdress swayed slightly.
She held her hands behind her back, stepped back two steps to let An Yu in, and looked at her with a slight smile: “Miss me?”
An Yu closed the door, blocking out the cool breeze from the corridor, and lowered her head to change her shoes. Her ears turned slightly red. “Shiyu just called me. She saw Pei Lu and Lin Ze together at a bar.”
Lin Duxi’s gentle eyes flickered for a moment, but she quickly returned to normal: “So that’s why you came to see me?”
An Yu nodded. “They’re probably planning something. I thought it’d be better to discuss it with you first.”
Lin Duxi nodded to indicate she understood, then asked, “What time is it now?”
An Yu froze for a moment, but her hand obediently opened her phone. “It’s eleven thirty-seven at night.”
Lin Duxi exhaled in surprise and lowered her hand from her jaw. “So late… let’s go to sleep.”
An Yu was a bit confused by Lin Duxi’s thought process. One moment they were discussing plans, and the next moment she was talking about going to sleep.
“Hm?”
Lin Duxi took her hand and led her to the bedroom. “It’s so late. Let’s sleep first and talk tomorrow.” She yawned, and the corner of her eye had a trace of physiological tear, her gaze shimmering.
An Yu suddenly remembered that Lin Duxi had indeed been a little sleepy these past few days.
It should be that she had been busy with work and was finally resting to make up for all the sleepless nights, An Yu thought.
“Shouldn’t we do something? I’m afraid they’ll do something harmful,” An Yu said anxiously, slowing her steps.
Lin Duxi stopped, and their joined hands froze in midair. She turned around, looking at An Yu steadily.
“Are you worried about me?” she asked with a smile.
“Yes,” An Yu nodded. “I’m very worried.”
She feared that their malice might harm Lin Duxi, that she would endure unnecessary suffering, and that their newly peaceful life might be disrupted.
Lin Duxi seemed surprised that An Yu would be so straightforward, and for a moment she didn’t know what to do.
She stepped forward, gently cupped An Yu’s soft cheeks, her eyes full of deep emotion.
“I like it when you say that,” she said, then held An Yu’s jaw and kissed her lightly on the lips.
She loved that An Yu’s concern was entirely for her, that her urgency and worry were because of her—just thinking about it made her fall even deeper.
Their noses touched, breaths mixed, and the warmth in the room intensified.
“Although I’d love for you to always care about me this way, it wouldn’t be fair to you,” Lin Duxi said affectionately, kissing her face and ear.
“You know about this?” An Yu held her, letting her lean in, then helped her sit on the bed.
Lin Duxi straddled her legs, arms loosely around her neck, releasing her ear and looking into her eyes.
“Mm.”
An Yu was confused. “How did you know Pei Lu and Lin Ze know each other?”
Lin Duxi shook her head. The dim light hid the coldness in her eyes. “Just a guess, but I’ve never let my guard down. What you just said proves my preparation.”
“Same kind of scoundrels,” she murmured.
“So you already knew Pei Lu wouldn’t give up and that Lin Ze would get help?” An Yu recounted the information she had gathered. “So now you’re just waiting?”
Before she could finish speculating, Lin Duxi had already started taking action. An Yu admired her alertness and silently regretted not being able to help.
Lin Duxi, however, yawned for the second time tonight, leaning lazily on An Yu’s shoulder: “About right. I’m so sleepy, let’s sleep first, okay?”
An Yu sighed helplessly. “Fine. But get off me first.”
Lin Duxi didn’t respond immediately, pressing An Yu onto the bed, holding her waist: “Sleep with me, An Yu.”
An Yu: “I’ll sleep with you, but I haven’t showered yet. Can I shower first?”
Only then did Lin Duxi release her.
She was indeed very sleepy. After An Yu showered, she found Lin Duxi already asleep, her expression peaceful.
Not wanting to disturb her, An Yu carefully got into bed.
Then she was wrapped tightly in Lin Duxi’s arms. Lin Duxi lifted one leg over her, hugging her like a doll, resting against her shoulder as they slept.
Though An Yu had agreed to sleep with her, she wasn’t tired at all. Only when Lin Duxi’s breathing steadied did she exhale lightly.
The worries that had accumulated inside her fermented in the quiet night. Shiyu’s conversation earlier kept lingering in her mind.
What exactly are Pei Lu and Lin Ze planning?
Lin Duxi seemed unbothered by all this and could even sleep soundly, but An Yu couldn’t ignore it.
Even though Lin Duxi reassured her that everything would be handled, An Yu still worried, feeling like a lump of cotton stuck in her throat.
She spent the whole night sleepless.
Lin Duxi shifted in her sleep, and only then did An Yu dare move her own limbs.
She got up, first grabbing her phone to call the butler, wanting him to investigate. She trusted Wen Zhenhe, who had been a butler for many years and had connections.
No one in the company except Ning Xuan was trustworthy; she couldn’t take risks.
Upon opening her phone, the first notification froze her in place.
#Lin Duxi relatives#
What is this?
An Yu frowned and clicked it. It was a marketing account posting a long Weibo article. Skimming roughly, it said that Lin Duxi had a relative who was extremely poor and, after Lin Duxi became famous, wanted financial help. Lin Duxi refused.
Instead of stating the facts plainly, the account spent most of the post describing how miserable Lin Yongfeng’s family was after being refused, portraying them as pitiable.
【I can’t believe Lin Duxi is like this… I used to like her.】
【Ungrateful!】
After reading just two comments, An Yu frowned and exited. Her hand holding the phone unconsciously tightened.
Lin Ze alone could have written such eloquent words, not to mention the hidden public opinion team stirring up the discussion. Without someone pushing it, it would be impossible to trend so quickly.
So this is the plan Pei Lu and Lin Ze came up with.
An Yu sneered, forcing herself to stay calm. Fortunately, Lin Duxi was still asleep and hadn’t seen any of this.
She took a deep breath, reopened the trending post, read it thoroughly, and quickly drafted a response plan in her mind.
Lin Ze wanted money, Pei Lu wanted Lin Duxi. An Yu guessed Pei Lu intended to make Lin Duxi upset with the online attacks, then “rescue” her to improve her opinion of him.
Not the most brilliant strategy.
The two of them are insane!
An Yu took screenshots and called the orphanage director, asking for proof to defend Lin Duxi.
The orphanage would have records of Lin Duxi’s life since age six, enough to show Lin Yongfeng and his family’s maliciousness.
The director was confused at first; she rarely used the internet and didn’t know what had happened.
An Yu didn’t tell her she was helping Lin Duxi, only saying it was for a program interviewing her past life. The director agreed promptly.
After hanging up, An Yu exhaled and called Ning Xuan.
“What now, little rascal?” Ning Xuan’s voice sounded over the line. “If this is about Lin Duxi, I advise you not to get too upset.”
Her voice caught: “Why? Aren’t we a CP? Her image is being attacked, which also affects me. Shouldn’t I do something to minimize the damage?”
“Everyone else would want to untangle quickly if their CP is in trouble. You’re rushing to defend her?” Ning Xuan was surprised. “Are you really together with Lin Duxi?”
An Yu cleared her throat: “Something like that.”
“What!” Ning Xuan was shocked. “Really together? What did you do while I was gone?”
An Yu shifted the topic back: “Not the time for that. The focus is Lin Duxi. I’ll explain the rest later.”
Ning Xuan relented: “It’s not about helping or not. When I first heard, I contacted Lin Duxi’s team, but they weren’t worried at all. They said they had it under control. Lin Duxi’s team isn’t panicking; you don’t need to be so anxious.”
“Really?” An Yu doubted she had heard correctly.
“Why would I lie? Who knows what they’re up to. Her team isn’t worried, so don’t be either. You live nearby, right? Go ask her.”
An Yu, still confused, hung up and stared blankly at the screen.
From the bedroom, there was movement. Lin Duxi, eyes half-open, yawned.
“Why are you awake so early?” An Yu asked, closing the phone.
Lin Duxi stepped in her slippers, hugging her and burying her face in her chest. Her voice was lazy and muffled.
“I woke up because you weren’t here.”
An Yu: “Then shall we go back to sleep?”
Lin Duxi looked at her, reaching down to take her phone.
“What are you looking at?” she asked.
An Yu’s heart tightened, trying to snatch it back: “Nothing. Let’s continue sleeping.”
Lin Duxi squinted at her, but ultimately returned the phone. “An Yu has secrets.”
An Yu: “…”
“Fine, I’ll respect your privacy. If you don’t want me to know, I won’t know,” Lin Duxi pouted, giving her the most pitiful look.
An Yu could never resist that gaze. Her heart ached. Thinking of Ning Xuan’s words and knowing Lin Duxi would eventually find out, she hesitated, then spoke.
“Pei Lu and Lin Ze have already made a move.”
Lin Duxi’s eyes curved in a slight smile: “You told me after all.”
An Yu: “Ning Xuan said your team hasn’t responded publicly at all.”
Lin Duxi nodded. “It’s not time yet.” She tugged An Yu’s clothing. “So you woke up early to help me?”
An Yu nodded and explained her preparation: she called the orphanage director, told her it was for a program, and asked her to describe Lin Duxi’s life truthfully.
Lin Duxi smiled. “An Yu, you’re so clever.”
An Yu still wondered: “So you knew this would happen. When can we act?”
The online attacks were escalating, and every second could be harmful. An Yu felt like she could take Pei Lu and Lin Ze down herself.
Lin Duxi laughed. “It’s almost time.” She tossed An Yu’s phone aside.
“Later, I’ll have someone go to the orphanage and release everything at once.”
An Yu: “Release what?”
Lin Duxi smirked, snuggling against her: “Of course, the rest of the news.”
