After Being Reborn, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessed - Chapter 83
An Yu turned her face away, her expression serious, though inside she was awkwardly hitting an invisible wall. “Did the director say when dinner would be?”
“About an hour later. The director asked us to wait for a bit first.” Seeing her goal achieved, Xie An’an didn’t continue teasing her.
“Where is my room? I want to rest. After a full day of flying and traveling by car, my bones feel like they’re about to fall apart,” she said.
An Yu: “Okay, I’ll show you.”
The two of them went upstairs. As they passed the sofa, Yu Fei and Feng Zhinian, who had been chatting happily, were suddenly suppressed by a voice full of restrained anger.
“An Yu, let’s talk.” Pei Lu sat on the sofa, lifting his chin and resting his hand under it, looking at her.
With his recent scandal still unresolved, the other two men naturally didn’t want to provoke him, afraid of getting into trouble.
Pei Lu’s voice was abrupt, devoid of any superficial civility, completely shattering the calm in the living room.
Everyone’s gaze turned toward the corridor. An Yu, in the center of their view, felt nothing special—her expression was indifferent, as if she had long anticipated this.
Xie An’an vaguely understood the enmity among the three and looked at An Yu with concern.
“Xie An’an, your room is the last one on the right at the end of the corridor. I won’t go with you,” An Yu reassured her, signaling for her to relax.
The two men on the sofa realized the situation was serious and hurriedly offered to go buy groceries, leaving only the two of them on the first floor.
“You instructed Lin Duxi to do it,” Pei Lu said, staring into her eyes, bloodshot with rage.
He didn’t explicitly say it, but both of them understood.
“Your position should have been mine. Lin Duxi should be my girlfriend.”
An Yu frowned slightly, suppressing her anger, and looked at him contemptuously, as if at an ant: “Is that all you can say? Pei Lu, you shouldn’t even be here. Turn right outside and keep going; there’s a mental hospital that suits you better.”
She didn’t deny his previous statement nor respond to it. This unconcerned attitude only fueled Pei Lu’s anger.
He sneered: “I thought you only had a crush on Lin Duxi. I didn’t expect you to manipulate her to this extent. What good does ruining me do you? Do you think she’ll be with you if she ruins me? Hahaha, An Yu, you’re wrong. Lin Duxi will be mine sooner or later.”
An Yu felt he was truly insane. “Lin Duxi is herself. She belongs to no one. Stop twisting her with your filthy thoughts.” She took a step forward and stared straight at him.
Pei Lu, enraged, raised his arm, but his peripheral vision caught the cameras around the room.
His reputation had barely recovered, and if this footage leaked, he would never stand in the industry again.
Pei Lu gritted his teeth and withdrew his hand: “An Yu, don’t think I have no way to deal with you. You dare block me, and you’ll be the first.” He pushed open the door and left.
An Yu watched his retreating figure and found it somewhat amusing. She poured herself a glass of water. The system in her mind immediately issued a warning, sounding an incessant alarm, cautioning her not to overstep. An Yu cursed at it along with herself.
“System, look at this awful male lead you picked. He’s already showing delusions. Honestly, your taste is terrible.”
The system didn’t respond to her rant. After a few seconds, it issued a cold, mechanical tone:
“Ding—Detection complete. Host has seriously violated mission rules. According to system regulations, punishment mode will commence shortly.”
“Three… two… one… Punishment mode activated.”
An Yu gripped the water cup, a smile slowly forming at the corner of her mouth.
She closed her eyes, feeling her mind whirl, and when she heard the roaring wind by her ears, she opened her eyes to find herself no longer in the warm, softly lit living room.
She was standing at the edge of a rooftop, a step away from freefall.
She tried to move her limbs. This time was slightly better than before; she could move them, though it required significant mental effort.
Following her previous method, she opened her suitcase to check the cash inside. The next step was…
Suddenly, hurried footsteps came from behind, like the wails before death. Tense, An Yu instinctively dodged a knife aimed at her waist.
She spun to strike, but her body was still not agile, and the attacker easily dodged. Her heart tightened, and she muttered a curse.
The attacker didn’t expect her to evade the knife and instinctively kicked at her.
An Yu fell backward uncontrollably, letting go of the suitcase, and cash floated in the air. The sense of weightlessness surged toward her, and in the final moment of consciousness, she regretted her previous clumsy movements.
Expected awakening did not occur. There was no pain—only a faint, cool sensation falling onto her, followed by the sound of raindrops hitting the concrete.
An Yu clung to the last threads of consciousness and slowly opened her eyes in the pouring rain.
The raindrops blurred her vision, but she could make out a woman standing before her.
The woman wore black high heels, making her fair skin even more radiant. Her white long dress trailed on the ground, mingling with rainwater and blood. The hem was already stained, but she seemed unaware.
In An Yu’s last moment before slipping into chaos, she whispered with trembling lips:
“Sorry for dirtying your dress.”
Unbeknownst to An Yu, after her consciousness drifted away, the woman before her could finally break free of invisible shackles.
The umbrella she had been holding was discarded. Lin Duxi knelt without hesitation, holding An Yu’s cold body. Blood streamed from the back of her head; any attempt to cover the wound was futile.
Blood stained her clothes and hands. Rain fell over her, blending with tears, making it impossible to distinguish.
“An Yu… don’t… An Yu, open your eyes, please, I’m Lin Duxi. Don’t sleep…” she screamed, calling out desperately.
Even knowing it was a dream, seeing An Yu lose life before her, Lin Duxi felt an abyss of despair, as if it were real. Her body hurt uncontrollably, and the blood flowed as if it were hers.
Why? Why make her dream this repeatedly, witness An Yu leaving her again and again, with no way to stop it, challenging her breaking point?
Her heart felt torn and bleeding. The despair wrapped Lin Duxi, thickening in the rain as night deepened.
She clutched An Yu’s body frantically, trying to warm her with her own body. The downpour quickly sapped her warmth.
Lin Duxi shivered, pressing her lips to An Yu’s lifeless cheek, futilely. She instinctively held An Yu close, unwilling to let go.
Hypothermia blurred her vision, but her mind cleared, revealing things previously unseen, unearthed from the rain-washed dust.
“Lin Duxi, Lin Duxi,” a familiar voice echoed. Lin Duxi thought it was her own hallucination from collapse, and desperately opened her eyes.
In the dim room, nothing was clear. A small bedside lamp was turned on, its faint light reflecting on An Yu’s face, her hair radiant. The person she had longed for was watching her worriedly.
“You didn’t sleep well, or caught a cold?” An Yu asked, hearing Lin Duxi call out repeatedly in her sleep. Worried, she gently reached to feel her forehead, but the next second, Lin Duxi’s waist was hugged tightly.
Lin Duxi buried her head in An Yu’s neck, breathing heavily. The regained sensation swept over her. She felt her cold body gradually warming, the hot breath against her fair skin soon staining it with a blush.
An Yu froze, then understood, wrapping her arms around Lin Duxi, lightly stroking her back. “It’s okay, I’m here.”
A chill grazed her neck, making her heart skip a beat.
“Can you stop leaving me?” Lin Duxi pounded her shoulders, then, realizing perhaps she was too rough, rubbed them gently, only to pound again a moment later.
An Yu: “…”
“Okay, I promise.”
An Yu had just woken from punishment mode. This dream was clearer than the last, with more details. Punishment had begun too quickly, and she found herself collapsed on the living room carpet, a tilted cup beside her, spilling water that soaked part of the rug.
Concerned for Lin Duxi, she rushed upstairs, hearing Lin Duxi calling her, worried she might have a nightmare. Her mind was still a bit fuzzy.
Lin Duxi finally released her arms. Her eyes, deep and shimmering, were slightly red; the tip of her nose tinged pink from emotion, her brows slightly raised, looking pitiful.
An Yu noticed her noisy heartbeat. Something inside her felt touched. She adored Lin Duxi in this state—her shattered gaze fixed solely on An Yu, steadfast and pure.
An Yu tucked the hair Lin Duxi let fall across her cheek behind her ear, gently wiping the tears from her eyes, her fingers brushing softly behind her ear.
Lin Duxi rubbed her cheek against An Yu’s palm, feeling ticklish, then looked up at her, lips vivid and tempting.
Because of An Yu’s previous action, Lin Duxi’s collar loosened slightly. In the dim light, her skin appeared bathed in moonlight, sensitive to even a light touch.
Some long-forgotten thoughts seemed to find fertile soil under the moonlight, spreading wildly.
“Shall we go eat?” An Yu pushed away the messy thoughts in her mind. “I heard eating can ease negative emotions.”
Lin Duxi frowned, starry eyes coldly rebuking: “Not romantic at all!”
